It really was a beautiful evening. The perfect storybook one or maybe one that poets got excited over. Streaks of orange and gold and pink stretched across the sky with the sun edging further beyond the horizon. The silhouettes of all the buildings making the perfect contrast against it. And that was a poetic as Remus Lupin got.
Sure, it was London and it was busy and there was almost certainly a crime going on about three streets over. It was also dirty and too loud but it wouldn't be London without it. And none of that really mattered to him. Not tonight, anyway. Or tomorrow. Nor did it yesterday. It was too nice am evening to worry about such things. In many ways.
Remus was interrupted from his musing by the window by his wife (his wife) wrapping her arms around him from behind and resting her head on his shoulder. He could feel the strain of her doing so - she had to be on her toes to do that.
"What are you thinking about?" she asked, shifting so she was next to him, also looking out the window. "Wow, the view."
"Indeed," Remus agreed, no longer looking out the window.
That got him a gentle swat.
"Does anyone know how corny you are, Remus Lupin?"
"Very few, Nymphadora Lupin."
He definitely hadn't said those words enough. No, definitely not. Dora thought so too because a smile stretched across her face.
"You get a pass on that one," she warned but the effect was somewhat ruined by the fact her smile had yet to leave her face.
"You are now my wife."
"And I still hate my name."
That was fair enough. At least she didn't mind when he used it sparingly. Others didn't get that much grace.
"Noted."
She leaned her head against his shoulder and hummed in satisfaction. They stood there like that, in front of the window, just looking out. The smell of her shampoo and the body lotion she used wafted into his nose. He breathed deeply. They were definitely some of the best scents in the world. Well, those and chocolate, of course.
"Are you sniffing me?" she asked in amusement.
"You smell nice!" Remus said defensively. "And you do it too!"
Sometimes when she hugged him, she breathed in deeply. She always said that his scent calmed her.
"We're talking about you," she dismissed. "And, on that note, what were you thinking when you were staring out the window?"
"Nothing much, just how nice and relaxing it has been here. Just being together, no worries or anything."
Well, he still had plenty of worries but they were all pushed to the back of his mind for these far too brief few days. Only thoughts involving himself and Dora were allowed. Preferably thoughts that involved little use of clothes.
"I hope it hasn't been completely relaxing!" Dora said in mock outrage.
Remus had to chuckle at that. No. What they did, well, not necessarily at night but mostly in the bedroom couldn't exactly constitute as relaxing. Pleasure? Yes, definitely, but not relaxing.
"Of course, it hasn't," he assured her, making her give him a smug look.
He wasn't sure why; he had given her just as much pleasure as she had given him.
"It has been very good, as well." He amended.
Dora quirked an eyebrow upwards. "Very good?"
"Extremely good."
"Good?"
"Brilliant. Fantastic, even."
"Much better."
She even gave him a patronising pat on the head for good measure. He grabbed her hand and gave it a kiss. Sure enough, it made her blush. It never failed to.
"Prat," she scolded.
"Yes. Your prat."
"Unfortunately," she said teasingly.
"Rings to prove it," he added, waving his hand in her face.
"Damn right," she said, taking a step back to do the same.
They grinned at each other, relishing in how silly they could be together. It was nice. Really nice. More than nice. Brilliant. Fantastic.
Remus impulsively pressed a kiss to her lips and was about to pull away only for Dora to grab his shoulders and, for lack of a better word, rather aggressively kiss him. Well, if that's how she wanted it...
Some minutes later, the pair of them were breathless, far more rumpled than Remus would prefer to be and grinning even wider than before, if that was possible. Not that he was complaining. Definitely not.
"What are we like?" Dora asked, shaking her head but there was no real malice in her tone.
Remus thought for a moment. Really thought. Thought of how they met, what they'd been through, what they were going to have to go through. And they had and were going to do it together. They could do it together.
"Perfect." He pronounced. "We're perfect."
Dora grinned at him. "You very positive and chipper today."
"Who says chipper?"
"You, normally but I thought I'd steal it this one time."
Okay then. It was probably best if he didn't question it.
"Of course, I'm happy. How could I not be?"
She leaned against him, Remus automatically wrapping an arm around her.
He didn't know how to explain it. He felt more than happy. That was too simple a word. Lighter? More at peace? Complete? No, the last one was wrong. Remus was not one to believe that you needed another person to complete you. They matched each other - they weren't half a person or soul by themselves. But by Merlin were they good together.
A satisfied sigh brought him out of his thoughts and he looked down to see Dora still leaning against him and smiling softly. Was she thinking the same things as he was? Did she also feel this? This feeling that for this day, this moment, that everything was right?
"I love you, Dora."
"Love you too, Remus."
They each gave each other a squeeze before breaking apart. Too many emotions. Time for a change. Dora, thankfully, had the same idea.
"What do you want to do this evening?" Dora asked. "We're only here until tomorrow."
Remus looked out at the relatively peaceful city and then back at his beautiful wife. Two days is what they gave themselves for a Honeymoon of sorts, Dora only taking tomorrow - Monday - off. It would be back to the grind on Tuesday.
He found, despite all the attractions London had to offer (many he had yet to experience himself), that he didn't want to do any of them. Not really. There would be plenty of other times to come to London for the sights but Remus felt like this wasn't one of those times.
He wanted to spend all the time they had here with Dora. Not with Dora, staring at things together, but with her. Did that make any sense? It only somewhat did in his head. He didn't care what they did together as long as they were together. Well, and maybe some more fun times in the delightfully soft bed.
"Just walk?" He suggested, there were a few lovely parks close by. "I don't really mind as long as we're together."
Dora linked her fingers with his and smiled at him, a genuine, proper smile.
"Me neither."
