"We still need to make a living!" George told him mother loudly.
"Just like dad does," Fred tacked on.
Remus sighed. As was usual these days, the Order meetings hadn't amounted to much. The only useful thing that came from them was updates on the Dursley's safety and their methods for keeping Muggleborns and their families safe. Some of them, anyway. The ones who had come to them for help, them being the Weasleys mainly, and the ones Remus recalled from his time at Hogwarts. Which was by no means all of them but even a few lives kept safer was better than nothing.
Of course, the radio channel was also coming along nicely. Not that the majority of the Order knew that or even knew of its existence. The twins were thinking of broadcasting their first show in the next week, they had really done all their research on this. Remus couldn't wait. It was odd to be so excited about something these days.
An elbow to the side interrupted him from his thoughts. Dora's elbow, to be exact.
"Should we leave?" She asked, trying to subtly watch the argument between mother and sons. "The meeting's over, isn't it?"
"We can't exactly leave without saying goodbye to Molly, can we?"
"No, I suppose not."
They carried this conversation out without even looking at each other, both wanting to watch the drama unfold. Hey, this sort of drama was infinitely better than any drama that may or may not be happening outside this house. So, they were taking it.
"Tell us how Diagon Alley is more dangerous than the Ministry?" George was now demanding.
That brought Molly to a stop as she tried to come up with something.
"See! It's not!"
"It is!"
"It isn't! Sure, Death Eaters could come for us-"
Fred's very matter-of-fact statement made Molly whimper.
"- but the same could be said of the Ministry!" George continued.
"And we'd have more opportunities to get away in Diagon!" Fred finished triumphantly.
"That doesn't make it safe!"
"Bill and Fleur work in Diagon Alley too!" Fred threw out there in an effort to get the heat off him and his twin.
It was almost amusing, if it hadn't involved Molly Weasley's temper.
"He, they are in Gringotts, which is slightly safer," Molly informed them before swinging around to her eldest son. "Not much safer, mind you, Bill!"
"Huh?" Bill jumped as if startled. "Yeah, Gringotts is perfectly safe, mum." He said almost absentmindedly.
"We will be fine," Fleur tried to reassure her. "We do not, how do you say it, hang around Diagon Alley after work. We go straight home."
This seemed to mollify Molly enough to turn her attention back to the twins, much to the evident relief of the newly married Weasleys.
Bill had been acting a bit weird at the last Order Meeting. And maybe even the one before that but then again, at that one everyone had been distracted as they scrambled to find a way to help a group of Muggleborns and their families. But Bill's behaviour was now beyond that. He was all distracted and not really talking unless he absolutely had to. Remus idly wondered if the man was feeling okay. The full moon was coming up soon and they still didn't fully know the effects of Greyback's attack on him, except, of course, for the joking comment about preferring his meat rare these days.
Maybe he should check in with him? Just to see if he was okay or wanted to talk. Remus felt like he hadn't exactly been portraying himself as approachable recently, between Dora and the baby and everything.
Dora seemingly had the ability to read his mind as she waved the younger pair over to them. Fleur gave her a grateful look and Bill followed her.
"Do you think the twins will win this argument?" Remus asked Bill.
"Hmm? Probably," he replied. "They'll just end up doing their own thing anyway."
"Bill has put arm wards around the perimeter of their shop to alert him to any aggressive spells being cast," Fleur told them.
"Smart move," Remus said approvingly.
"Yeah, it doesn't stop them or slow them or anything. Just an alert."
Still, an error to any outside aggression would still give the twins a fighting chance if anything went wrong.
"That's a modification to the ward that alerts to any spell being cast from outside a home, isn't it?" Dora asked.
Bill nodded in response. It was evident that he wasn't fully paying attention to them but neither was he focusing on his mother and the twins. Like he had said before, this was odd behaviour from Bill.
"How has the full moon been treating you?" Remus asked.
That actually got the younger man's attention and Bill turned to face him with a wry grin.
"Not too bad, thankfully. Still prefer my red meat and want it rarer on the full moon."
"Your scars itch around the full moon as well," Fleur reminded him.
Huh. Remus wondered if that was the scars trying to shift or if it was just down to Bill being more sensitive at the full moon?
"That too," Bill agreed. "I suppose we better head back," he looked pointedly at Fleur. "We left that mess in the kitchen."
"We did," Fleur said, rising effortlessly and nodding. "It was nice seeing you two," she said to them.
Bill tapped his mother on the shoulder and interrupted her mid-scold, much to the twin's relief. Hugs were exchanged and Bill gave them all nod before the pair of them disapparated outside.
"Do you think Bill is okay?" Remus asked Dora as they also left - the twins and Molly no longer arguing as the twins had taken full advantage of Bill's leaving to vanish.
She still knew him better than he did. Maybe he was just imagining things and this was how he was sometimes.
"No," she replied, shaking her head. "He's definitely acting weird."
"Think something's happened?"
"I don't know," Dora answered honestly. "I can't read him as well as I can read Charlie."
Remus supposed that it could be nothing and Bill could just be acting weird because that's how life was these days. You had to be cautious. Wary. Suspicious. Careful. Nervous. Always on edge. It wasn't exactly a healthy cocktail of emotions to be on. Trust him, he knew. Oh, he knew.
Actually. He straightened up as the thought struck him. Never mind him, all those emotions weren't good for Dora or the baby either. And, sure, he had = told Dora this but had either of them been actively doing anything to reduce and manage her stress. He wasn't stupid enough to think that they'd remove it completely but there had to be ways of safely managing it.
"Are you okay?" Dora asked in amusement as they entered their living room.
"I'm pretty sure that's meant to be my question."
"Huh?"
"You aren't stressed or anything, are you? You haven't been feeling strange or-"
Dora shut him up by placing a finger on his lips. Whoops. He had been babbling.
"You're sweet for worrying," she said. "But I'm fine. Well, as fine as anyone can be right now, I suppose."
"Are you sure?"
He didn't want her to hide this from him.
"I'm sure."
