"Come on," Tonks hissed, dragging Remus into Fred and George's flat in Diagon.
One, it really wasn't a good idea for them to be out in the open unnecessarily, being known Order members and all, and two, Remus was seriously dragging his feet like some sort of stroppy toddler. Hence the dragging.
"I'm coming, I'm coming."
He really wasn't because he wasn't moving. He was just letting her tug him ineffectively. Which she did not appreciate because it made her look ridiculous. And him but Remus evidently didn't care about that because he already looked ridiculous with that pout on his face. Okay, it was more of a scowl but she was claiming it was a pout because he was acting like a child.
"Give me a second to gather myself," he told her.
"And give you the opportunity to apparate away? I don't think so. You can gather yourself inside."
He pouted at her. Yeah, she knew that that's what he had been planning. He looked like a toddler whose plan about getting at the biscuit tin had been thwarted. It looked ridiculous on a grown man. She reached for him and made to knock on the door but he pulled her back just before that could happen.
She wobbled slightly on her feet but he kept her steady.
"Hey!"
"Sorry," he apologised.
"You know I'm even less graceful than usual," she grumbled.
How that was even possible, she didn't know but it was true. And the fact that Remus didn't crack a joke about that spoke volumes on how he was currently feeling.
"What if I'm not ready?" He asked worriedly.
Tonks tried not to sigh at that and gestured towards his robes. "You have what you want to say all written out and you've basically memorised it as well. And it sounds good, remember. Trust me, I would have told you otherwise. You're more than prepared for this."
Unfortunately, Remus didn't look too convinced by this. Actually, he looked even more nervous, of that was possible.
He didn't get a chance to say anything more as the door was flung open.
"Remus! Tonks! Our two stars!" Fred and George chorused, dragging them both inside.
Well, it looked like that decision was taken right out of his hands. Good. He was less likely to quit when there was more than just her.
They were dragged to a small room that was probably meant to be a box room or something but the twins had it all set up for a radio production. There was a long table, six folding chairs, the radio and another device that she assumed was for broadcasting to the radio.
"Boys, are you really sure this is a good idea?" He was saying as he was pushed into a seat next to them that was right behind the radio. "I mean, surely you have better ways of filling the time in your show than me..."
"Nonsense!" George exclaimed.
"You're perfect!" Fred added. "You'll finish off the show perfectly."
"Wait, you aren't saying anything in this?" Remus asked accusingly, turning around to her. "Weren't you meant to finish it off?"
"Nope, I'm next week," she said happily. "Remember?"
Fred and George had asked her at the end of the last Order Meeting if she minded being pushed back a week. They didn't want to introduce too many new people on the show at once. It made it look chaotic. Remus had been right there next to her when they asked! They hadn't let him be the one to be postponed because they had to fit in a news alert, for lack of a better word. There were suspicions that there was a jinx or a curse on Voldemort's name. It hadn't been confirmed yet but Death Eaters and lackeys had been turning up around Order members far too frequently as of late. No one had been hurt, yet, but it was important to get the news put before someone was. She was happy enough to give her slot up for that. Mainly because she had no clue what she was going to say and was going to wing it. Not that she was ever going to tell Remus that.
"And I thought I was the one who was meant to have pregnancy brain," she joked.
He gave her a glare but Lee Jordan shushed them as he started up the show.
"Hello, everyone and welcome back to Potterwatch."
Between the three of them, Lee, Fred and George managed to get across all the latest news and even the idea of there being some sort of curse on Voldemort's name in a way that was friendly and almost cheerful. Reassuring their listeners. Kt was pretty cool to listen to, even if Remus was fidgeting next to her. She grabbed his hands before he could pick at his skin and all too soon, he was motion to replace George in his seat. Even Dora could feel the sweat on his hands as she squeezed them reassuringly before he went over.
"And now for our newest addition, Romulus," Lee said happily. "Here to give us defence tips and advice."
Dora mouthed "Romulus?" while holding back a laugh. That was the perfect codename. She'd have to come up with one for herself, Merlin knows what the twins would come up for her.
Remus cleared his throat and nervously fished out his notes. With a shaky voice he started talking about ways that they could all be keeping themselves safe in the home and how to keep their wits sharp.
It didn't take long for the shakiness in his voice to give way to the calm and even one that he was so well known for. His shoulders relaxed and he sat up a bit straighter without being stiff. See? This is what she meant by he would be okay once he got started. He knew this stuff. He lived for this stuff.
She stopped concentrating so much on what he was saying, letting it drift to the edge of her awareness. Instead, she watched him. Tonks loved watching Remus. Especially when it involved something that he enjoyed and it was extremely evident, now that he was warmed up, that he really enjoyed it.
He was just so expressive and earnest and there was so much feeling behind every word he spoke. No wonder everyone she spoke to thought he was an amazing Professor. It was like he was born to do it.
Her attention was brought back to what he was talking about when her ears picked up something she didn't remember from all his practising.
"...hope is also important," he was now saying quietly, with less passion in his voice but still with firm belief. "Hope is something that's within all of us and we can't let it fade. We can't. For without hope, where will we find our strength to fight? And never mind fight, what about simply living? In times like these it is more than routine that gets us through today, it is hope."
Tonks found herself straightening up as he spoke, kind of like she wanted to prove that he's, she was hiding on to hope, as hard as that was. She was hearing him. She was believing in what he said. Fred and George were too, they had stopped their messing around and were listening intently. Even Lee Jordan wasn't messing about with the radio setup anymore.
"Hope," he repeated softly. "Is one of the most powerful things out there. So please don't lose it."
There was a moment of silence as none of them wanted to spoil that heartfelt speech with something stupid. But, of course, the show had to go on.
"And on that note," Fred said in an equally soft voice. "That's a wrap. The password for the next show is, fittingly, 'Hope'. Until next time. Stay safe."
The twins and Lee started tidying up the place, putting everything away, while Dora stood up and immediately engulfed her rather shell-shocked husband in a hug.
"That was amazing, Remus."
