"Good morning," Remus greeted, waking her with a kiss.
It was a nice way to wake up, let her tell you.
"Hey," she mumbled and then looked outside to see no daylight whatsoever. "It's too early."
He chuckled and pressed another kiss though this time to her forehead before he stepped away.
"Too early for coffee?" He asked, wafting it under her nose.
The scent of that glorious caffeinated drink filtered through her brain, making her open her eyes properly. She still did sit up though.
"Coffee?" She asked hopefully.
"Coffee. Well, decaf," he amended, reminding her of the awful fact that she couldn't drink the proper stuff.
It didn't matter that the decaf that Remus managed to find didn't actually taste that bad, surprisingly it was pretty good but still. What on earth was the point of coffee if it didn't jolt you awake? There was no point.
She grumbled a bit but still made grabby hands at the mug he was holding put to her.
"Sit up," he chided. "We don't want another spilling incident."
She flinched at that, no they did not. That had been painful. And very wet. Thankfully it had involved tea being spilled over well covered arms but still. Still sore.
"I have some scrambled eggs here for you when you're ready."
She looked at him blankly.
"What?"
"I made you breakfast," he repeated slowly. "Scrambled eggs. I would have done bacon but I know that still makes you feel a bit nauseous..."
She huffed at the reminder of that. She had been extremely happy when her morning sickness finally left her but apparently it didn't completely go away because it left her with an aversion to bacon. Bacon! What sort of travesty was that?
"Do you feel okay?" He asked when she didn't reply.
"Yeah, I'm fine," she replied, feeling confused. "What's with all the fuss?"
Remus raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, I appreciate the breakfast in bed," she gestured towards the tray he had set on the windowsill. "But why?"
Remus looked between the food and her and then an amused look formed on his face.
"Dora, you do know its Valentine's Day, don't you?"
She blinked at him, taking a minute to fully process what he had just said. The amused look on his face didn't exactly help.
"Oh! Oh yes! I remember!" She then said excitedly, pushing through covers off her and tried to get out of bed.
She said tried because she forgot that the tray of food had just been put on her lap and nearly sent it flying. Thankfully, Remus' reflexes were perfect and nothing was lost except for a small clump of scrambled eggs.
"Woah, woah, woah, easy!" Remus said, setting the plate on her bedside table and taking the tray away. "What was that about?"
"I have a gift and a card for you as well!" She told him.
He chuckled at her and held her steady as she swayed slightly. Whoops, she got up too fast there. Ugh, she hated that feeling. The world spun for a second and she felt light-headed. Thankfully, everything came into focus relatively quickly only for the first thing for her to see properly was Remus' worried face.
"I'm fine," she reassured him. "Just moved too fast."
"You can't do that now," he said reproachfully.
"I know. I didn't mean to!"
It wasn't like she went deliberately out of her way to get dizzy!
"I know," he said. "But just, I- be careful."
"I will."
She knew he worried. And for good reason, let's be honest here.
"Soooo," he drew out. "Valentine's Day."
And that got her all excited again.
"Yes! I was getting your gift!"
Before she could try and get up again, Remus nudged her back down.
"Why don't we eat real fast first and then exchange gifts?" He suggested.
Her stomach growled in agreement, making them both chuckle and they both sat back on the bed to eat. Oh, Remus' cooking was ways so good. She was honestly jealous of his abilities, even over something like scrambled eggs.
Then they finally exchanged gifts. Dora got Remus this rather snazzy waistcoat. He had been taking about wearing a waistcoat and, despite her teasing him about making him look even more like a fancy librarian, Tonks thought that he'd look good in one. It was this deep brown colour that made his eyes glow. Oh, and chocolate because she wasn't a monster.
She also got a book and some of this amazing moisturiser that seriously smelled fantastic. Like buttery toffee, somehow. It made her mouth water and would hopefully make her skin feel fantastic. She also got a bunch of flowers and those Weird Siters tops he had told her about when she had first started to outgrow her clothes.
The rest of the morning was spent exchanging soft kisses and caresses and, ahem, a lot more other activities that required the breakfast tray to be put far out of reach.
They did eventually make their way downstairs, mainly because it got to lunchtime and neither of them realised how long it had been since breakfast until both of their stomach complained loudly. So, down they went for some sort of sustenance. And a lot of kissing when Andromeda gave them a very knowing look when they entered the kitchen.
Thankfully, there were no questions or prying but still, it was a bit embarrassing. So, pushing sightly awkward conversation it was so her mind didn't dwell on it too much.
It turned out that Remus had also got her mother something for Valentine's Day. A rose. Well, two roses. A yellow one and a pink one. For friendship, gladness, appreciation and admiration, apparently. Andromeda had been ever so glad of them and Tonks loved seeing that. They were pretty, though not as much as her honeysuckle, larkspur and forget-me-not bouquet. Oh, and the deep red rose on her breakfast tray, because Remus was a hopeless romantic, after all.
"That one's a keeper," Andromeda advised, twirling the rose between her fingers with a wistful sort of smile on her face.
Tonks couldn't help but feel a pang of regret that Ted wasn't here to celebrate Valentine's Day with her mother. She wanted to say something. It felt like she should say something. But what would she say? And she was pretty sure that her mum wouldn't want her to say anything.
"He is," Tonks said finally instead. "That's why I married him."
"It's a good thing you did."
Tonks tilted her head to one side. "Mum?"
Andromeda waved her away. "It's nothing, Nymphadora. I was just thinking."
"Good thoughts?"
A genuine smile spread across Andromeda's face. Something Tonks couldn't remember seeing recently.
"Very good."
Tonks smiled back. "Good."
It really was good to see her smiling, especially when she was thinking about Ted. You could always tell recently when she was thinking about Ted, she got this sort of sad, winsome look on her face and Tonks never knew what to do to help her out of what had to be depressing thoughts.
"Well, no point in dwelling on thoughts when there's things to be done," Andromeda said briskly. "I want to start those plans for that herb garden we'd discussed."
Tonks nodded. Having fresh herbs was ways useful and most of the time they were hard to kill. She and Andromeda had put together the outline of the bed and Andromeda said she would sort that bit out (as both her mother and Remus insisted that she do no manual labour that involved any sort or stones and rock). And then Dora would help with the planting. Something see was actually allowed to do.
"Sounds like a plan."
"The edging stones are by the back of the house," Remus said, coming in from the back door."
"Try not to be too loud in here, the window is open," Andromeda said with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "Or at least remember silencing charms."
Tonks threw a couch cushion at her and shrieked indignantly, "Mum!"
All she got was a chuckle as Andromeda left the room shaking her head leaving Tonks with her husband blushing an impressive shade of red.
