Chapter 16: Time for Liftoff
Back at Sid's house, as Sid slept through the storm, Woody tried to free himself from the milkcrate, but the toolbox on top was too heavy. Maxxor, Tangath and Intress tried to push the milkcrate, but no hope. Sly tried pulling it with his cane. Even Harry or his friends couldn't lift the toolbox off with their levitation spells. "Pst! Hey Buzz!" Woody whispered. Buzz didn't answer. Woody picked up a washer nut and flung it at Buzz's helmet. Buzz turned and looked at Woody. "Hey! Get over here and see if you can get this toolbox off me." Woody said. "We're not strong enough to do it ourselves." Tangath said. Buzz just looked away and dropped his head. "Oh, come on, Buzz I- Buzz, I can't do this without you. I need your help." Woody said. "We all do." Hermione said. "I can't help. I can't help anyone." Buzz said. "Why, sure you can, Buzz. You can get me out of here and I'll get that rocket off you and we'll make a break for Andy's house." Woody said. "Andy's house, Sid's house. What's the difference?" Buzz asked. "Oh Buzz. You've had a big fall. You must not be thinking clearly." Woody said. "When was he ever thinking clearly?" Seamus asked. "Shut up, Seamus." Ron said.
"No Woody. For the first time, I am thinking clearly." Buzz said. "What're you talking about?" Harry asked. "You were right all along. I'm not a space ranger. I'm just a toy, a stupid, little insignificant toy." Buzz said, looking at the writing on his wrist comm. "Whoa, hey, wait a minute. Being a toy is a lot better than being a space ranger, pal." Woody said. "Yeah right." Buzz said. "No, it is. Look, over in that house is a kid who thinks you are the greatest, and it's not because you're a space ranger, pal. It's because you're a toy. You are his toy." Woody said. "But why would Andy want me?" Buzz asked. "Why would Andy want you? Look at you! You're a Buzz Lightyear! Any other toy would give up his moving parts just to be you. You've got wings, you glow in the dark, you talk, your helmet does that- that- that whoosh thing." Woody said. "And you have that neat laser and that karate chop action on your back." Hermione added. "You are a cool toy." Woody said.
Suddenly, Woody got depressed. "As a matter of fact, you're too cool. I mean, what chance does a toy like me have against a Buzz Lightyear action figure? All I can do is…" Woody said, pulling his string. "There's a snake in my boot!" His voice box said. "Woody, what're you saying?" Ginny asked. "Why would Andy ever wanna play with me when he's got you?" Woody asked. Buzz looked at him. "I'm the one who should be strapped to that rocket." Woody said, turning his back. "Woody no." Hermione said. "You can't quit on us now." Tom said. Buzz lifted his foot, looking at Andy's signature. He then looked back at Woody, getting a look of determination on his face as the sun started to rise and the storm ending.
"Listen, Buzz, forget about me. You should get out of here while you can. Harry, you and your friends should go with him." Woody said. Nobody answered. Woody turned around. Everyone was gone. Woody bowed his head in sadness. Suddenly, there was a noise. Woody looked up. Buzz was trying to move the toolbox off the milkcrate while the others tried to push the milkcrate. "Buzz! Guys! What're you doing? I thought you-" Woody started to say. "Come on, Sherriff. There's a kid over in that house who needs us. Now let's get you out of this thing." Buzz said, continuing to push the toolbox. "Yes sir!" Woody said. Everyone started to push. "Come on, Buzz. We can do it." Woody said, putting his hat on and starting to push the milkcrate.
Suddenly, there was the sound of a truck coming. Everyone looked out the window. The moving truck had just arrived at Andy's house. "Woody, it's the moving van." Buzz said. "Oh no! That means Andy's leaving soon." Hermione said with worry. "Bloody hell!" Ron said. "We gotta get out of here now." Woody said. Everyone continued pushing harder and harder. "Come on, Buzz!" Woody grunted as he pushed, finally opening a gap. "All right!" Woody hopped down to the floor. "Buzz! Guys! Hey, I'm out!" He called. "Almost there!" Buzz grunted, not hearing Woody. "We got you, Woody!" Maxxor said. Finally, they pushed the toolbox and the milkcrate over the edge. Woody chuckled nervously as the toolbox and the milkcrate fell on top of him, making a loud ruckus. Everyone looked at Sid. "I wanna ride the pony." Sid said in his sleep. Buzz sighed in relief and crawled to the edge. "Woody! Woody! Are you alright?" He called. Woody lifted the toolbox off himself. "No, I'm fine. I'm okay." He assured.
Just then, Sid's alarm clock went off. Sid started to wake up. Woody ducked back under the toolbox, Harry and his friends went to hide, and Buzz sat back down and froze as the clock fell off the desk. Sid looked up. "Oh yeah! Time for liftoff!" Sid said, leaping off his bed, grabbing Buzz and unlocking his door. "To Infinity and Beyond!" He called, running out the door.
Woody leapt to his feet and ran for the door, catching it before it closed. "Nice catch." Harry said as he and the others joined him. But as they opened the door, they saw that Scud was out there. Scud saw them and ran for the door. Woody and the others ran to shut the door as Scud tried to get in. "Ah! Back! Back! Back! Down! Down!" Woody shouted as he and the others closed the door in time. "So, what now?" Sarah asked. "We gotta save Buzz." Sly said. "But how?" Dean asked. "Okay, what do I do? Come on Woody, think!" Woody muttered to himself. Just then, the mutant toys started coming out. "Guys!" Woody called. But the mutant toys scattered back into hiding. "No, no, no, no! Wait! Wait. Listen please. There's a good toy down there, and he's gonna be blown to bits in a few minutes. All because of me. We've gotta save him. But I need your help." Woody pleaded.
Just then, Babyface peaked out from under the bed. "Please. He's my friend. And he's the only on I got." Woody said. Babyface came out and started tapping her claw on the metal bedpost. The mutant toys started to come out. "Thank you." Woody said as they gathered around. "So, what's the plan, cowboy?" Sly asked. "Okay. I think I know what to do. We're gonna have to break a few rules. But if it works, it'll help everyone." Woody said as he started explaining the plan.
