Chapter 18: Sid Learns his Lesson

Woody, the heroes and the mutant toys peaked out from the bushes, eying the launchpad Sid built, with Buzz strapped to it. "Mission Control, is the launchpad construction complete?" Sid said to himself from the toolshed. "Roger. Rocket is now secured to guide wire. We are currently obtaining the ignition sticks. Countdown will commence momentarily. Stand by."

Just then, there was a rattling noise. Everyone turned to see. Ducky, Legs and Frog came out from a drain pipe. Woody gave a thumbs up. Ducky returned it. "Let's go." Woody said. Everyone dispersed from the bush and ran to their places in the yard as Woody ran for Buzz. "Hey Mom! Where are the matches? Oh wait, here they are. Never mind!" Sid called. Buzz saw Woody coming. "Woody! Great! Help me out of this thing." Buzz said. But Woody shushed him. "What?" Buzz asked. "It's okay. Everything's under control." Woody whispered before dropping down to the ground. "Woody, what're you doing?!" Buzz whispered. But then, he saw Sid come out of the toolshed and froze back into place.

"Houston, all systems are go. Requesting permission to launch." Sid said, until he saw Woody on the ground. "Hey. How'd you get out here?" He asked, picking Woody up. "Oh well. You and I can have a cookout later." He tossed Woody onto the grill, took out a match and placed it in Woody's holster. He then walked back to Buzz, drawing another match. "Houston, do we have permission to launch? Roger. Permission granted." Babyface and Legs peaked from behind the clothesline as Sid lit the match. "You are confirmed at T minus 10 seconds…and counting." As Sid counted down, everyone moved into their final positions. Pump Boy whispered to someone in the sandbox. Jingle Joe peaked around the picnic table. Frog dove down a pipe into the muddy water puddle. Woody looked up and glared as Sid was about to light the fuse. "Reach for the sky!" Woody's voice box went off. Sid, pulled back and looked over at Woody. "Huh?" He dropped the match and walked over. "This town ain't big enough for the 2 of us." The voice box said. "What?" Sid said in confusion. "Somebody's poisoned the waterhole!" The voice box said as Sid picked up Woody. "It's busted." Sid said, preparing to throw Woody away. "Who're you calling busted, buster?!" The voice box said suddenly, making Sid stop. Sid looked at the pull-string. It wasn't moving. "That's right. I'm talking to you, Sid Philips." Sid was starting to get scared. "We don't like being blown up, Sid. Or smashed, or ripped apart." "We?" Sid asked. "That's right. Your toys." The voice box said. "Periculum!" Harry called, firing a red spark from his wand, signaling the others.

Just then, a burnt doll rose up like a zombie from the sandbox and cried 'mama.' Sid looked as the doll, along with Pump Boy, Tangath Toborn and a big red truck emerged from the sandbox. Buzz looked with a big smile. Frog, Intress and 2 Combat Carl soldiers emerged from the muddy water. One Carl had no arms and a nail in his head, the other was headless with a broken foot. Sid started to get really scared as the mutant toys moved towards him. The LGM from before, now covered in Scud's teeth marks, popped out from Scud's food dish and joined the fray. Sid backed up to the clothes line. Then Babyface landed on his head, causing him to scream and to back away as Legs hoisted Babyface back up. Just then, Hand-in-the-Box popped out and grabbed Sid's foot. Sid screamed and pulled Hand out, along with Roller Bob, Sly, Carmelita, Janie, Pterodactyl and Jingle Joe.

Soon Sid found himself surrounded, too scared to move or scream. The mutant toys and heroes circled around him, preventing any means for escape. "From now on, you must take good care of your toys. Because if you don't, we'll find out, Sid. We toys can see everything!" Woody's voice box continued. Sid now shook with great fear as Woody came to life. "So, play nice." Woody said menacingly. Sid screamed, dropped Woody and ran for the house. Everyone started to cheer in victory. "Ha ha! We did it! We did it! Yes!" Woody shouted.

Sid ran inside as Hannah came out from the hall. "The toys! The toys are alive!" Sid cried. Then he noticed Hannah's Sally doll in her arms. "Nice toy." He whimpered. Hannah sensed her brother's fear and held up Sally to his face. Sid shrieked and ran upstairs with Hannah chasing him. "What's wrong, Sid? Don't you wanna play with Sally?" Hannah asked tauntingly.
