Chapter 19: Chasing the Truck
In the backyard, Woody was praising everyone's work. "Nice work, fellas. Good job. Coming out of the ground- What a touch. That was a stroke of genius." He said. "Woody." Buzz called. Woody climbed up to the launchpad. "Thanks." Buzz said, holding out his hand. Woody shook it. "Brilliant." Ron said. "Totally." Hermione said. Harry nodded at the sight.
Suddenly, a horn honked. Everyone turned to the fence. "Everybody say bye house!" Andy's mom called. "Woody, the van!" Buzz said. "Oh no! Andy's leaving!" Tom said. "Bye house." Andy said with depression. Woody pulled out the pole Buzz was tied to and they both leapt to the ground. "We gotta run! Thanks guys!" Woody called to the mutant toys as he, Buzz, Harry and the others ran for the fence. "Quick!" Woody said, slipping through the fence with Harry and the other heroes. But Buzz got stuck due to the rocket still taped to his back. Woody hopped onto the rear bumper, but saw that Buzz was stuck. "Just go! I'll catch up!" Buzz said. Woody knew he couldn't leave Buzz behind. So, he jumped down and ran back as the van was pulling out of the driveway. Woody and Harry managed to break Buzz loose and everyone ran for the street.
They were too late. The van was too far ahead. Suddenly, there was a motor sound. Everyone turned around. The moving van was about to drive on top of them. They ducked just as the moving van passed over them. "Come on!" Buzz called, running after the moving van. Woody, Harry and the others followed. Unfortunately, Scud, who was sleeping on Sid's porch, saw them run past. He growled, seeing his chance to get revenge.
Woody, Buzz, Harry and the others continued to chase the moving van. Buzz, Harry and the others climbed up a strap dangling from the van. Woody hustled to try and grab the strap. "You can do it, Woody!" Buzz said. "Come on, Woody!" Hermione called. Woody leapt as hard as he could and grabbed the strap. "Whoo! I made it!" He said. Just then, a familiar bark was heard. Buzz looked and gasped. "Woody, look out!" Harry yelled. Woody looked over his shoulder. Scud was racing towards him. Woody screamed as Scud bit down on his leg. "Get away, you stupid dog!" Woody shouted, kicking Scud's face with his free foot. "Down! Down!" Scud tugged Woody, causing him to slip off the strap. "Hold on, Woody!" Buzz called as Woody was pulled to the end of the strap. "Woody, you've got to hang on, mate!" Ron called. "I can't do it! Take care of Andy for me!" Woody said, feeling ready to let go. "NO!" Buzz shouted, leaping for Scud's snout. "GET THAT DOG!" Harry shouted. He and his team leapt onto Scud. Buzz grabbed Scud's eyelids and snapped them, causing him to let go of Woody. "Buzz! Harry!" Woody called. Scud tried to shake Buzz, Harry and the others loose.
Woody climbed up the strap onto the bumper, unlocked the back door and struggled to open it. Just then, Andy's mom and the moving van stopped at a red light. The stop caused the back door to open with Woody hanging from the handle. Woody looked around at the boxes and spotted the one marked 'Andy's Toys.'
Meanwhile, Scud managed to throw Buzz, Harry and the others off of him. Buzz, Harry and the others tumbled under a parked car. Scud ran over and barked at them, being too big to crawl under.
Woody pushed the other boxes off the box with the toys and opened it, finding Rex, Hamm, Potato Head, Slinky, Rock, Robot and Snake. They moaned and winced from the bright light. "Are we there already?" Rex asked. "Woody?" The toys asked. "How did you-?" Slinky asked. "How'd he get here?" Hamm asked. "Where've you been? What happened?" Slinky asked. Woody shoved the box aside from not finding what he was looking for. The toys looked up in confusion. "What's going on? What's he taking?" Hamm asked as Woody looked through another box of toys. Woody picked out RC's controller and his doodle pad. "Aha! There you are!" He said, pulling RC out of the box. "Hey! What's he doing?" Potato Head asked. Woody brought RC to the back and pushed him out into the street. The toys screamed in horror. "He's at it again!" Rex screamed.
Woody drove RC with the controller towards the car. RC passed Scud and went under the car. He whirled with happiness seeing Buzz alive. "Hey, RC." Harry said. Woody chuckled in success.
