The team saw they had a small way left to go to reach Corona and stopped for the night so that they could arrive in Corona at early light. Setting up camp once again, the team were still a little weirded out on what occurred at the Duckling. And Sisu's humming of the song wasn't helping.
"What? It's catchy." Sisu defended.
"Well, I can't say I was expecting that." Jack informed them all.
"Yeah, you think? That was stupid what you did back there." Hiccup informed him as he kept the fire going.
"What? Oh, you're still not mad about that, are you?" Jack asked him.
"Yes." Hiccup stated with a snarl and angry look on his face. "But I'm getting over it."
"I gotta say, I didn't know you had it in you there, Blonde." Jack said as he turned to face Rapunzel. "That was pretty impressive."
"I know!" Rapunzel exploded in excitement before calming down. "I know."
"You're a lot stronger than you make yourself seem." Jack informed Rapunzel.
"You...you think so?" Rapunzel asked as she began to blush.
"Yeah. It's not anyone who could stand up to a room full of people Ike that." Jack stated.
"So, what's the plan when we reach Corona?" Elsa asked them.
"Well, I figure we could work our way over to the castle after the celebration. Elsa could maybe get us in, I'll go in with her and Sisu and explain our predicament to them." Hiccup guesses it was a good plan as any.
"You really like to just wing it, don't you?" Anna asked Hiccup.
"I think it's best because if you plan ahead and something goes wrong, then there's a problem." Hiccup shrugged and stood up. "I'm gonna go and get some more firewood. Toothless, Jack, I might need you guys."
"Sure." Jack guesses and got up to follow him.
"I'll give them a hand." Raya said as she got up and followed after them.
"I've gotta have a word with my sister." Anna said as she grabbed Elsa and dragged her off
"Wait, about what?" Elsa asked, not following what's happening.
"Ooh, I gotta see this." Sisu said and followed the sisters, not realizing they left Rapunzel alone.
Rapunzel smiled at everything that happened, glad she was actually able to make a group of friends, no matter how quirky and weird they are.
But she (and everyone else) missed that Mother Gothel was standing behind the campsite with a grin, her hair beginning to reveal her true age.
Somewhere between 500-1000 years old.
"Well, I thought they'd never leave!" Gothel cried, causing Rapunzel to freeze, and become completely shocked.
"Mother?" Rapunzel asked as she turned to face her, not sure how it's possible she found her.
"Hello, dear." Gothel greeted her daughter with a menacing grin.
Rapunzel was confused and was tripping over her words while Pascal vanished from eyesight to not be spotted. "How did you find me?" She asked as Gothel pulled her in for a hug.
"Oh, it was easy. really." Gothel promised. "I just listened for the sound of complete and utter betrayal and followed that." Now she was playing her part in the plan, entering doubt back into Rapunzel's mind.
"Mother..." Rapunzel had no idea how to explain everything to her. Not knowing that she is aware of everything and is working for the other team.
"We're going home, Rapunzel. Now." Gothel stated and tried to drag her off, but Rapunzel stopped her.
"You don't understand." Rapunzel stated. "I'm on this incredible journey, and I've learned and seen so much. I even made some amazing friends. I...I think that one of them likes me."
"Likes you?" Gothel asked in scoff. "Please, Rapunzel, that's demented!"
"But, mother, I-"
"This is why you bender should have left." Gothel said a she walked around Rapunzel who was becoming nervous of the others seeing her. "Dear, this whole romance that you've invented just proves you're too naive to be here." She then goes and grabs Rapunzel by the shoulders and caressed her face. "Why would he like you? Come on now, really. Look at you! You think that he's impressed!" She then walked far into the dark forest she emerged from before. "Don't be a dummy, come with mummy! Mother..."
"No!" Rapunzel stood her ground, determined not to leave her friends behind in the middle of the woods.
Gothel was shocked to hear her actually stand up to her. "No? Oh, I see how it is." She then marched closer to Rapunzel. "Rapunzel knows best. Rapunzel's so mature now. Such a clever grown up miss." She patted Rapunzel on the head. "Rapunzel knows best. Fine, if you're so sure now. Let's see and if there's something you've missed." She then walked away and left Rapunzel alone. "Trust me, my dear," she then snapped her fingers. "That's how fast they'll leave you! I don't say I told you so! No, Rapunzel knows best. So, if he's such a dreamboat. Go and put him to the rest!"
"Mother, wait!" Rapunzel starts to second guess herself.
"If he's lying, don't come crying!" Gothel sang off, her hair becoming more and more white throughout the song. "Mother knows best!"
Then with a wave of her cape, she was gone.
In the forest, Hiccup and Jack were collecting wood while Toothless was carrying it.
"So...what's it with you and Rapunzel recently?" Hiccup asked Jack as he strolled along some trees above the Dragon Rider.
"What?" Jack asked, not following what Hiccup's saying. "There's nothing going on."
"Really? You seemed to be eyeing her during the bar. And getting defensive when that guy marched up to her." Hiccup listed his reasons why he's suspicious.
"Yeah, so was Raya. But I don't see you thinking she likes Rapunzel." Jack retaliated.
"Except Raya's defensive by nature. And you're the one who didn't lift a finger to even try to help me." Hiccup stated, and Jack saw he was cut in a corner with nowhere to go.
"Okay, fine. But it'd never work out." Jack stated to him. "I'm invisible to the world. She can have anyone she wants; she'll meet someone right for her. Like you did with Elsa." He suddenly turned the tables on him.
"What?!" Hiccup cried, no idea what to even say to that.
"Come on, I saw how you look at our Ice Queen." Jack stated. "I can't exactly hold it against you, she is sweet, kind, protective, and not to mention powerful. I'd see why you fell for her. Not to mention she's beautiful."
"Okay, but just like you said. It'd never work." Hiccup stated as he began to pick up the last of the wood and walk back to camp. "I'm not the type of guy who can stay in one place. I always have to be on the move, because nobody really likes me sticking around. I cause more damage the more I'm around others."
"I haven't seen anything like that with us." Jack stated to him.
"Just wait. It's bound to happen eventually." Hiccup promised.
"Then what about Raya? You always head back to Kumandra." Jack reminded him.
"They're the only people I know I can trust with Toothless around." Hiccup replied as they came across Rapunzel just standing in the middle of the camp. "Hey, Rapunzel, you okay?"
Rapunzel then suddenly came out of her head and noticed the boys were watching her with a confused look.
"Oh, sorry, yes. I was just lost in thought." Rapunzel apologizes.
Jack and Hiccup looked to one another, wondering what she could be thinking so hard about, but decided to drop it as they dropped their logs.
"Where are the girls?" Jack asked.
"I'm right here." Raya said as she walked over to her team. "Just checked the perimeter. We should be in the clear."
"Okay, but where's Elsa, Anna, and Sisu?" Hiccup asked as he looked around for them.
"Come on, why don't you give it a chances?" Anna asked Elsa, regarding what they all see in her and Hiccup.
"You do realize we're still trying to save the world, right?" Elsa reminded her sister.
"Yeah, but it's gonna be a long journey." Sisu reminded her, back in her dragon form. "We've got like three other kingdoms to visit in order to go up against Pitch. And it's not like Pitch is gonna follow us the entire way."
"Doesn't mean he hasn't gotten his friends to do it." Elsa retaliated to the dragon.
"Oh, what, you mean that cuckoo Dragon Hunter?" Sisu asked, thinking of Grimmel. "What, we think he's gonna attack us with his acid spitting dragons when we have people to fight them? Or the Druun when we have two people who can stop them? Come on, and if we do fail, and I'm not saying we will, wouldn't it be best to tell people how you feel?"
Elsa couldn't believe that she was getting badgered by her sister and a dragon. And she couldn't believe she was able to actually say that statement.
"Fine! If it means so much to you guys, I'll think about it." Elsa promises them.
"Good enough for me." Anna guesses that's the best she's gonna get out of her sister.
But just a small distance away from them, they didn't notice their conversation was being overheard by Gothel and Grimmel.
"Hm, now this is an interesting development." Gothel mutter to herself, thinking that this could be useful to break their team apart. "How would Pitch feel of corrupting an insecure Ice Queen?"
"I think he'd be up for the challenge." Grimmel whispered, getting the exact same idea she was.
