The team was stuck in the Snugly Duckling and was trying to come up with their next move as the skies darkened. They felt the ground rumble and knew the time was approaching. The team knew the time was approaching that Pitch would be freed but didn't know what their next move would be.
"What's our next move?" Jack asked as he approached his team, the people of the Duckling making sure none of the Nightmares or Druun will be able to get near them.
"We need to be clear about what to do next." Hiccup said as he walked around in circles. "Elsa is changed, but I might be able to get her back if I get close enough."
"Yeah, I'm still confused as to how that works," Raya commented. "You touched her and just went in her mind?"
"It's actually happened before," Sisu informed them all, getting their attention. "When Pitch was defeated, the blood oath was formed, the Queen of Corona at the time made a connection between all of them."
"So... if we were to be corrupted, we could save each other?" Anna asked, seeing that's actually a good idea. "Huh. That's not a bad idea."
"How do we save her?" Hiccup asked the dragon in human form.
"You have to find her true self in her mind," Sisu answered. "When you heard her voice, that was her true self."
Hiccup saw that was something he could do, but they still needed to figure out how to get past the Nightmares and Pitch. "Okay, then I'll need Toothless to get to her."
"How do we plan on getting him back?" Rapunzel wonders, not seeing how they could accomplish that goal.
"Drago needs to be removed from the fight." Hiccup stated, feeling that will even their odds.
"And yet how do we do that?" Jack asked him.
"Drago wants to destroy the world. What better place than Berk?" Hiccup asks him. "The only place that can stop him?"
"So... we're going back to Berk?" Anna asked.
Hiccup looked and saw Valka nodding in approval. "Yeah, we're going back. Because even though I hate them, and they despise me, I don't want to see them get killed." He then saw they needed a bit of motivation from him to get ready. "We've been hit hard, guys. I know that. But we need to get back out there if we want to save our friends. We still have a chance to save the world. We have to take it."
The kids looked around at one another, seeing they didn't know if any of them could take another beating again. They were down two members already and could lose more if they go at it again.
"Well, I'm in," Jack said as he walked over and tapped Hiccup's shoulder. "Who's coming with?"
The girls looked at one another and knew they were going to do anything to save one of their own. They stood up and smiled, all of them on board with this idea.
"We better hurry, once night hits, Pitch will begin the ceremony," Sisu warned them, and they saw they had a few hours before then.
"Get ready." Hiccup said as they got ready to head back out.
The team is on their way back to Berk, flying on the back of Sisu when they came across Berk. What they saw when they arrived was the Alpha standing over the entire village that it had already blasted with frost.
"We might be too late," Raya said in worry.
"No." Hiccup denied that statement. "I need you guys to get to the land and distract the alpha. Try to keep his focus off of Toothless."
"How do we do that?" Jack asks as he flew beside them all.
"Have you forgotten who you're riding with?" Eret asks as they see him come up to them from the back of Sisu. "There isn't a dragon alive that I can't wrangle!" He says as Sisu seemed to be offended by that and smacked him. "Ow! Except for this one!"
"I'll take that as a compliment," Sisu said with a smile
"And you're going too...?" Rapunzel was afraid of the answer.
"Do something crazy," Hiccup muttered to himself. "And I'm gonna need Sisu."
"What?" Sisu asked him.
"You better come back in one piece." Anna pleaded with him. "For Elsa's sake."
"No promises." Hiccup said as they landed on a secluded part of the island.
Drago looked over Berk as the Alpha was snarling, looking around for any signs of life. When he noticed Hiccup and Sisu approaching, he snarled and noticed he couldn't control this dragon. As they came closer, a sheep comes leaping up as the team is using a catapult to launch the sheep up his face.
The alpha was about to attack the sheep when he hears a horn and turns to the Dragon Siren. When the alpha turns back, a black sheep comes in and lands on his spikes before it starts to fall down his face. Getting tired of this, the Bewilderbeast blew it off of his face and was ready to get back at it.
The one shooting the sheep was Jack, knowing that he couldn't be seen, and was having the time of his life setting this dragon off balance to loosen control on Toothless. But it seemed to have had enough of the horn as it finally blasted it with ice, causing Rapunzel and the others to jump out of the way.
"You certainly are hard to get rid of, I'll say that." Drago comments on him.
"Toothless...Hey. It's me, bud. It's me. I'm right here, bud." Hiccup tells his dragon. "Come back to me."
Drago chuckles at his attempts. "He's not yours anymore. He belongs to the alpha. But, please, O Great Dragon Rider, try...to take him. He will not miss."
"Listen to me, Toothless. This isn't you." Hiccup tried to snap Toothless back to his senses and raised his hand to him. "This isn't who you are." He then started to reach out to touch his face.
Hiccup watched as Toothless' iris was going from slits to their cat look. The alpha's control was weakening, but it still had a grasp on Toothless. This means that the others were working as they kept blowing the horn and shooting sheep to annoy the alpha.
"You'd never hurt me," Hiccup says as he places his palm to the dragon's head as he's snapping free. "You're my friend."
"How are you doing that?" Drago asks Hiccup, shocked to see that somehow this was working.
"Please. You are my best friend, bud. My family." Hiccup begs and Toothless breaks free from its control and cheers in victory. "Attaboy! That's it! I'm here."
"Enough!" Drago yells and goes to hit Toothless when he grabs the stick using his mouth and throwing him off.
"Yeah!" Hiccup cheers and Toothless gave a gummy smile when he starts to fall with nobody helping him fly. Hiccup noticed this and leaps off Sisu to rescue him. "Hang on!"
"I could have just helped," Sisu commented and saw Hiccup make it on Toothless.
The three start to fall as Drago lands on the alpha while Hiccup got onto Toothless and they fly off.
"Do something!" Drago tells the alpha.
"We need to get those two apart." Hiccup tells Toothless who agrees as they grab a piece of cloth before the alpha starts shooting blasts of ice at them.
"Look out!" Jack cried as he blasts ice at the swarm coming at them.
"We gotta block him out. Do you trust me?" Hiccup asks and the Fury does. Hiccup then covers his dragon's eyes and ears. "We can do this. Together. All of us."
"What do you want us to do?" Jack asked as he flew beside him, followed by Sisu and the others.
"Keep the people safe." Hiccup answered and went in to fight. "I'll take care of Drago!"
"Got it," Jack said as the two flyers went off to do their part.
"Good luck," Rapunzel said.
"You're gonna need t!" Raya said as they flew off.
"Go get em'." Valka encourages.
Hiccup and Toothless turned around and flew toward the alpha to get as close as they can. As they got closer, Drago wanted his mighty weapon back.
"Take control of it!" Drago demanded, not believing his attempts were being foiled by him. "Now!"
"Now!" Hiccup tells Toothless as he understands what he wants.
The alpha sends a blast their way and they dodge and fly up above the mist of ice coming at them. When Drago sees the dragon, he noticed its rider was missing. He turns and sees the Hiccup using his flight suit to fly past and releases Zippleback gas.
When he had enough of a trail, he then ignite it to send Drago flying and landing on the ground. Then Hiccup looked and noticed the tail coming swinging at him, giving him a moment of deja vu.
"Not again." Hiccup complains, remembering how he lost his leg.
But before he got hit by the tail, Jack comes flying in and grabbed him. "Not today!"
"Thanks for the save!" Hiccup said as they flew off.
That's when Toothless came around and glided underneath them as Jack tossed him on the ground.
Drago reaches for the staff and Jack sent a blast of ice to stop him. As he tried to get up, Raya came over and held her sword at his throat. Rapunzel had her frying pan raised, while Anna held her fists out.
"Sorry, were you going somewhere?" Raya asked him.
"Hold him there, guys. It's all over now." Hiccup says as the alpha spots them.
"Or is it?" Drago asks with a smirk.
"Hiccup!" Valka warns him and Hiccup turns to see the alpha.
Before he could react, Toothless leaps in to protect him and the alpha spits ice at them.
"No!" Valka the team yells as they reached the ice.
Thinking they lost their friends, they broke down in tears. Just as they had given up hope, the ice started to glow and it explodes.
Jack covered everyone so the ice didn't hurt them. When the dust settles, they saw Toothless glowing blue all over and he roars at the alpha. Then he turns to Hiccup and sees he's okay and then leaps up the ice blast and screeches at the alpha.
"He's challenging the alpha!" Hiccup sees as they join him on the ground.
"To protect you!" Raya finishes as they watch the two dragons fight.
Toothless fired a plasma blast; the burst was a mix of purple and that same glowing electric blue, and it exploded against the Bewilderbeast's face like a firework. It was the biggest blast they ever saw come from that dragon in the time they've known him, and it fascinated and amazed them at once.
The Alpha's tusk smashed against the spike of ice Toothless was perching on, but Toothless didn't even seem fazed. He fired again after taking residence on a spike of ice below the first one and fired again at the Alpha.
As the light glowed brighter, the darkness seemed to fall off of the dragons, freeing them of Pitch's control. Then, slowly but surely, the dragons that had once been flocking over the Alpha turned and hovered in the air over Toothless.
The Alpha was losing his hold on the dragons; he no longer had power over their minds. And that would mean neither did Pitch.
Seems Drago noticed this and was getting irritated. "No, no, no, no!" He then climbed up over to the tusk and up the head of the Bewilderbeast. "Take control of it! Fight back! Fight!"
Toothless was winning the battle for Alpha status. He was winning, and the dragons were coming to his side.
Hiccup suddenly raced forward, straight up to Toothless without fear. He leaped atop his dragon's back, and Toothless let him without protest, although his main focus remained on the Alpha.
No...not Alpha anymore.
The Bewilderbeast wasn't the Alpha dragon anymore.
Toothless was the King of all dragons.
"This is what it is to earn a dragon's loyalty. Let this end now." Hiccup tells Drago.
"Never! Come on!" Drago replies, still believing he can win.
Toothless let loose another ear-piercing roar, and then, all the dragons in the air over him and around him opened fire at the Bewilderbeast. The team did all they could to help back with Jack shooting ice, Sisu shooting off her powers to give them cover. They hit him from every angle possible.
They all stopped all at once, and Toothless fired one giant final plasma blast, aiming straight for the Bewilderbeast's tusks. The plasma blast exploded, and the dragon's tusk snapped straight off, leaving jagged spikes where it used to be. Black smoke poured from the gaping hole, and the former Alpha roared a mix of what sounded like fury and pain.
Toothless roared in triumph. He had won. The Bewilderbeast bowed. He bowed to Toothless; to the new Alpha.
"The Alpha protects them all!" Hiccup shouted, his voice full of triumph, much like Toothless' roar.
As if agreeing with what he had said, Toothless roared again, and behind him and above him, the other dragons did the same, cheering in victory.
The Bewilderbeast turned, defeated, and returned to the water from where it had come. It sank beneath the waves almost painfully slowly, but as soon as it was gone. As was Drago, giving them a sense of relief they didn't need to worry for the dragons anymore.
Drago was defeated, but the battle was far from over. After all of Berk left their homes and looked over at Hiccup and Toothless, they were shocked to see that he had tried to save them after everything they'd done.
Hiccup looked over and noticed their awestruck faces when he saw his father. He looked just as shocked and amazed as the rest of them.
"Hey, guys!" Jack cried as he flew over to them. "It isn't over yet!"
Hiccup looked over to his father, seeing the awestruck look on his face. He wanted to talk to him...but someone else needed his help right now.
"Come on, bud." Hiccup said as they took to the skies and flew away.
They all had their own transport now, so they weren't all crushed on the back of Sisu as they made their way over to Kumandra to stop Pitch and save Elsa.
Valka said she would need to find a place for the dragons to stay now with the Sanctuary destroyed. Hiccup saw that was a better idea than to drag her along to fight Pitch.
As she didn't have much experience with fighting him as the others did, it was for the best. It made perfect sense to them, and they decided it was best to go their separate ways for now until Pitch was gone.
When they arrived go Kumandra, they were met with darkness and clouds over the skies and the closer they got to the source, the worse things got.
"This doesn't look good," Anna commented.
"All the more reason to get to the heart, and stop Pitch before he's unleashed!" Hiccup cried as they made their way through.
"Yeah. I have a score to settle with him." Jack scoffed as they kept going.
The wind started to increase, making it hard for the team to fly through and making them land. When they were getting closer, they noticed it was snowing around a mountain that Pitch seemed to be located.
"Pitch is just up ahead!" Jack confirmed as they started to walk their way through the storm.
Due to the wind, there was no way for the dragons to fly, so they became their anchor to the ground. They then finally found Pitch was standing above the skies, seeming that his spell was being cast. The skies were darkening and Pitch was becoming free.
"The doorway is opening!" Sisu informed them. "When it opens, we might be able to stop him, but it'll be dangerous!"
"The best thing to do is to stop him now," Raya stated, trying to see in front of her. "Hope Madame Web can capture him."
"Great!" Hiccup said as they tried to see through the storm. "Now all we need to do is survive this blizzard!"
"That's no blizzard!" Anna realized as they looked further and saw this snow wasn't natural.
Further ahead of them. Elsa was standing on top of a ledge on the mountain, shooting beams of snow to block their line of sight.
"That's my sister!" Ann cried in terror as Elsa noticed them approaching and sent another giant wave of snow headed toward them.
(A/N) In case anyone's confused...Drago was a distraction. He was always their distraction. He was the expendable one of the group. This whole attack on Berk was their distraction to buy time to get Pitch free.
It'll be explained more in the next chapter, don't worry.
