Chapter 7 – A Misunderstanding Arrest!
(Ponyville Hospital – Sunset…)
Per the doctor's orders, Mina and the Human Six were to stay in the hospital until they were fully checked up. If everything went well, they'd be released by the next morning. Well, they'd all be released save Twilight. Her injuries had been extensive enough to warrant a longer stay.
Of course, there was still a whole day between now and the next morning and boredom quickly set in for several of the patients.
"This is pure boredom... with a capital B." Mina complained. Were hospitals always this bad? It was just like back on Earth...
"I know, right? I'd even settle for, blegh, a board game." Rainbow grumbled as she lay in the bed and tried her best to ignore the unrelenting boredom.
"I don't think they allowed any types of games in here, darling." Rarity stated.
"You could try reading a book," Twilight suggested with a small smile. She had awoken half an hour ago with her right arm in a cast and wrapped in bandages. Once she had been looked over by the doctors, Twilight and the girls had listened to Mina's tale
"True, that's an option as well... how do you feel so far?" Mina wondered curiously.
"I somehow feel worse than that time I blew up the alchemy lab." Twilight replied with a small shiver at that painful memory.
Mina didn't know how to respond to that so she just blurted out. "So, semi-fine?"
"I'll live." Twilight stated and sent a deadpan look to the brunette's direction.
Mina sent her an amusing grin. "Don't overdo it." She advised as Twilight rolled her eyes,
"Trust me, I'm going to try and avoid life-threatening situations for a while," Twilight snarked.
"I'm glad you're alright though... if you or your friends had died, I'd... I'd feel awful." Mina admitted with a sad look.
"We're the idiots who went running into the Everfree. I don't know why you'd go blaming yourself." Rainbow remarked with a confused look.
It was their fault for running headfirst into danger inside the Everfree Forest… there was no need to blame the brunette wielder.
Twilight nodded in Rainbow's defense and added. "Rainbow has a point. We owe you our lives."
"It really isn't that big a deal... I just did what was right." Mina said with a small shrug.
Twilight smiled at the comment. "Exactly like a proper hero would. You're like one of those heroes I read about in the old epics," She revealed as Mina blushed at the praise she was receiving.
(Later – Ponyville Hospital Balcony…)
While the rest of the Human Four remained indoors, it was now a good for Twilight and Mina to have a small chat on one of the hospital's balconies.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" Mina wondered after closing the door in order to let them have their moment of questioning.
"About this whole thing with your Keyblade and how you got it." Twilight replied, eager to know more about the whole story.
"Ah. Well, it's a sort of a complicated situation. You already heard about my situation with 'Him' right?" Mina asked.
"Yes." Twilight confirmed.
"I was offered any power of my own choosing and I ended up picking the Keyblade. Why? Because it's related to a sort of... you have video games in Equestria?" Mina wondered.
"We do," Twilight answered, having remembered a couple of kids playing on arcade machines or games consoles in their homes.
Mina nodded in satisfaction - this should be easier to explain then. "Right. So here's how it goes - the Keyblade is based on a video game called Kingdom Hearts. In it, there's this kid called Sora who wields such a weapon and goes around fighting the bad guys with. Each game in the franchise depicts the antagonist trying to obtain Kingdom Hearts' power." Mina explained.
"I see." Twilight said in a surprisingly calm tone.
"You sound surprisingly calm about all of this." Mina stated.
She didn't expect Twilight to be so chill about all of this… what gives?
"As you recall, I was on the verge of death... It kinda puts things into perspective." Twilight said bluntly.
"Fair enough. You see why I wanted to stay silent about all of this?" Mina asked.
"Yeah, I do. If you just came out and said all that without context, everyone would assume you're insane." Twilight agreed with Mina's reasoning.
"Mhm. Though you still mad at me for keeping a secret?" Mina wondered.
"No." Twilight answered truthfully.
Mina was surprised. "Not even a little? Why?" She asked.
"You did save my life, so that might have something to do with it." Twilight said teasingly.
Mina made a few moves with her mouth and nodded slowly. "Fair enough. And one more thing..." She added as Twilight raised a brow.
"Yes?" Twilight asked.
"I don't suppose there'd be any room for four more newcomers in Ponyville?" Mina wondered.
"I don't see why that would be a problem." Twilight replied with a shrug.
Mina sighed in relief. "Thanks. I hope you don't mind my parents though." She added much to Twilight's confusion.
"Why would I mind them?" Twilight asked.
"Cause of their... ummm... lesbian status." Mina admitted and looked away in embarrassment.
Twilight just stared at her blankly before posing a question. "Why would that be an issue?"
It shouldn't be any problem so why was Mina embarrassed? Was it because both her parents were women…?
"Most of the LGBT back on Earth are discriminated a lot. My parents are... don't get me wrong, I love them my parents a lot but it's just... We're always discriminated one way or another. Heck, I'm a bisexual myself." Mina admitted.
"That sounds awful." Twilight said and sent a sympathetic look towards the brunette.
Mina nodded. "It is. So, should I be worried?" The Keybearer wondered.
"Absolutely not." Twilight assured.
Letting out a breath of relief once more, Mina spoke. "Thanks, Twi. Weird question but are same-sex couples common around these parts though?"
"Some places they're more common than others, but they're not uncommon." Twilight assured.
"Good to know." Mina trailed off but then she looked at Twilight with a mischievous grin – one that didn't seem to sit right with the librarian. What was she planning exactly?
"What are you plotting, Mina Marley?" Twilight asked suspiciously.
"Oh... nothing much… I'm just wondering if you have feelings for one of your friends." Mina stated with an innocent look.
Twilight blushed heavily and tried to recollect herself. "If I was crushing on one of my friends, and I'm not saying I am, then I'm perfectly capable of telling them myself!" She was adamant in her decision.
"Hmm... interesting. Is there someone on your mind Twi?" Mina asked with the grin still on her face.
"Nope! No one at all!" Twilight tried to deny, but Mina thought the lady doth protest too much. She had a very good idea on who Twi was ogling on but she needed to see if her theory was true.
"Okay, Twi. You're the boss." Mina lied about dropping the conversation.
"Thank you," Twilight said with a hint of relief on her face.
Twilight was lucky that Mina didn't press on. There was no way that she had figured her out! She had to have been making wild accusations with no basis in reality! She couldn't let the brunette find out about her feelings for Dash. Unfortunately for the librarian, the Keyblade Wielder was onto her like white on rice.
"Hmm, I'm thinking of a picture with a rainbow." Mina started.
Twilight froze, her heart missing several beats… as Mina continued her 'description' of the picture in her mind.
"And there's a bookworm overlooking it..." Mina continued.
Twilight began laughing nervously and tried to change the conversation. "What are you talking about?"
Mina smirked and continued to speak. "Oh, just a rainbow and a bookworm connecting together... admitting what they feel... it seems like a recipe for a perfect romance."
"I. Have. No. Idea. What. You're. Talking. About." Twilight said stiffly only for Mina to squeal in joy at the pairing inside her head.
The sun was beginning to set as Mina smirked and began to leave the balcony. "I'll see what I can do to help you with her heart." She assured much to Twilight's agonizing face.
"Mina!" Twilight moaned piteously yet was ignored completely.
The two went back inside and returned to the Human Four who were trying to relieve the boredom that they were experiencing via chatting.
(The next morning...)
Mina sighed heavily as she sat on edge of Twilight's hospital bed. "How much longer do I have to be in this damn hospital!? My strength has recovered completely yet I'm still here... No offence for the swear." Mina apologized to Twi who was also in casts sadly.
"It's fine, the doctors just want to make sure you're alright." Twilight soothed.
"True... Hopefully, they're signing me out today. I'm getting a little hungry and I want to take a nice hot shower when we get back to the library." Mina said.
"Sounds like a good plan." Twilight agreed.
The brunette nodded and then posed a question. "Speaking of plans... what's our current plan for today?"
"I don't know about you, but I'm going to be catching up on my reading for the next week while my arm heals." Twilight replied.
"Fair enough... speaking of reading, can you give me that book on the legendary weapons when we get back? I wanna check and see how much info I can chalk down in my brain regarding what's written in the book." Mina said.
"Of course." Twilight agreed with a small grin.
"Thanks Twi." Mina couldn't help but feel they'd become closer during this whole ordeal. Then a question came up in her mind. "I wanted to ask you; what are your thoughts on this whole 'Heartless' affair?"
"Fighting ancient evils is old hat for us. I'm sure together we'll be fine." Twilight replied with a shrug.
Mina nodded then looked away. "I don't suppose the princesses have any sort of plans ready for dealing with this threat?" She wondered
"I'm not sure, but I don't doubt they have some idea of what to do." Twilight said earnestly.
Knowing her mentor and Princess Luna, it shouldn't come as a surprise that they had some sort of plan for dealing with this crisis.
"We can only hope. Maybe you should ask them? One of them is bound to know what to do." Mina suggested.
"Good idea." Twilight replied with a nod.
Just then, a knock on the door occurred as a woman entered with light gray hair and blue eyes with her attire being a nurse outfit with sneakers. Her face was displaying worry and nervousness. "Um... Miss Marley, Miss Sparkle..." She trailed off.
"What's the matter, Nurse Redheart?" Twilight asked with a confused expression. Was there something wrong?
"Ummm, which one of you is known as the 'Keybearer'?" Redheart wondered with a worried expression.
"That would be me," Mina said before posing a question. "Why? What's wrong? Is it more Heartless?"
"Ummm... I'm really sorry about this!" Redheart apologized quickly and then let a very angry woman with rainbow-colored hair and magenta eyes. She wore a white-dress with gloves, a tiara with a purple diamond and golden-plated boots.
"Princess Celestia?" Twilight asked in surprise. She had never seen her mentor angry before… something was definitely wrong.
"Twilight Sparkle... I apologize for what has happened but rest assured that justice will be served." Princess Celestia assured her student.
"Justice? What do you mean, Princess?" Twilight was baffled
Celestia didn't reply and instead turned to Mina. "Are you the Keybearer?" Her question was laced with a small hint of venom.
"Maybe..." Mina was feeling seriously intimidated by the mere appearance of Celestia – Princess of the Sun.
"Answer the question. Now." Celestia demanded with a forced use of the magic word.
"I am," Mina said nervously and all of a sudden, her stomach began to churn. Something was definitely off.
Celestia nodded and then a couple of royal guards entered the room. "Guards, arrest her!" She ordered quickly before anyone could react.
The guards obeyed and slapped on the chains much to Mina's shock and Twilight's horror on her face that screamed betrayal.
"What's going on?! What did I do?!" Mina shouted in panic.
"You have no right being on this world! The Keyblade has no place in MY kingdom!" Celestia stated.
"Princess, stop, Mina saved my life!" Twilight protested. What's going on!? Why was her mentor doing this!? Mina didn't do anything wrong!
Celestia looked at Twilight before sighing heavily. "My student, I'm sorry that 'Mina' deceived you. it doesn't surprise me. Keyblade Wielders are often notorious for being tricksters and liars. Rest assured; I will take care of her... personally." She promised her student who was still protesting.
"I've done nothing wrong!" Mina cried as she was being dragged away from the guards.
"Princess, please listen to her! She saved me and my friends! You have to let her go!" Twilight pleaded with her mentor.
"No, Twilight. Your mind has been clouded, but once I take care of this wretched girl, I'll be back to help you see the truth." Celestia assured firmly before she teleported away along with the guard and the brunette wielder.
"MINA!" Twilight cried, but it was no use. She was gone, taken away by her mentor whom she thought she could trust and respect. Twilight was about to start crying when she shook her head and regained her composure.
If Celestia had gone mad… there was really only one other person to turn to. Someone who had firsthand experience with dealing with madness.
"Princess Luna... she can help me. Nurse Redheart, can you fetch me a pen and letter please?" Twilight requested to the nurse.
"Of course," Redheart replied with a nod.
Redheart left for a moment to fetch the items that Twilight needed while the librarian sat on her bed and wondered what had just transpired now. "Princess, why did you do this? How do you know about the Keyblade?" She whispered these questions softly.
The empty air held no answers for her. All she could do now was to wait for the nurse to return and give her the items to write a letter to Princess Luna. The Princess of the Night would help her. She was sure of it.
Author's Notes: And we're back with the newest chapter of the Crescent Key! And what a doozy it is - Mina and the Human Six getting treated, Twilight and Mina chatting normally and then our brunette Keybearer getting arrested by none other than the Princess of the Sun! It was one of the things I had prepared in a couple of conversations involving me and a friend of mine. He's been super helpful in pointing out the mistakes and misunderstandings in the chapter - in a sense, he's like an older brother to me.
In the next round, we're finally introducing Luna in the story where a lot of interesting things will be revealed... Unlike Celestia, the Princess of the Night will be a little more... sympathetic towards the situation and Mina's role as the Keybearer - won't spoil too much cause it's a surprise!
Another couple of stories I've got planned is one where I guest-star the selfie of my good friend Reseliee on DA... yet I won't say it much since it's a surprise. I'm doing a lot of that it seems - surprises and planning... Oof, I gotta update some of my AO3 stuff as well. Damn it all to hell...
In other news, this year is officially coming to an end at last... I hope that 2021 brings a lot more positivism and joy in our lives than this crappy year. Not going to lie, 2020 has been the worst year ever in the 21st century. Next year has to be better... it just has to be.
Note to self - update your fan wiki, Watchdog... always remember to update it before it gets shut off yet again. (I have a fan-wiki devoted to my OCs and stories - The World of Zad - Imagination Wikipedia. Come and have a peak whenever you want to!)
With that said in mind, I'm gonna end it off here. As usual, I don't own Kingdom Hearts nor My Little Pony - they are owned by their respective owners. Except for my OC - that's all mine!
Happy reading and see you all in Chapter 8!
