Chapter 2

She did not see him again until her first quidditch match Gryffindor Vs. Slytherin. When the team entered the pitch, they all mounted their brooms kicking off from the ground. Soaring through the air, waiting for the game to start, mixes of red and green flashing through the air. Then she saw him, sporting a green robe. Their eyes linked as they flew past one another, only a few feet apart. He had a mischievous look on his face, grinning at her as he flew by.

"Hello, and welcome to Hogwarts first Quidditch game of the season! Today's game Slytherin versus Gryffindor!" Lee Jordan the commentator announced from one of the towers around the quidditch pitch. Cheers erupted through the pitch; kids excited to watch.

The players lined up in a circle taking their positions, with the two seekers flying above them. "Now, I want a nice clean game...from all of you." Madam Hooch looks directly at the Slytherin team clearly knowing their normal tactics. She kicks the trunk, and the bludgers zoom out, shadowed by the Snitch.

"The bludgers are up...followed by the Golden Snitch. Remember, the snitch is worth 150 points. The seeker who catches the Snitch ends the game." Lee Jordan announced voice booming through the stadium. Madam Hooch grabs the Quaffle and tosses it in air as high as she can. "The Quaffle is released...and the game begins!" Cheers continued to erupt, and the game started.

Angelina took possession of the Quaffle and whizzes down the pitch toward the Slytherin goal, tossing the ball and scores. A ding sounds as Lee Jordan announces "Angelina Johnson scores! 10 points for Gryffindor!"

The game continues and Gryffindor is in the lead, Slytherin is starting to get irritated, deciding to take different measures to ensure a win for their house. Katie watched from across the pitch as Marcus grabbed a beaters bat from one of his teammates and whacks a bludger as hard as he could. Keeping her eyes on the ball she watches in horror as it collides with Oliver Wood, directly in his stomach. Clutching it he plummets to the ground, leaving them without anyone to guard their goals.

Focusing back on the game, she chases after Angelina, who was currently boxed in by Flint and his other chaser. They sent her flying into one of the towers and she crashes to the ground as well. At this point Katie no longer heard the announcer, she was fuming. Seeing her two friends on the floor and given her an extra boost.

Marcus had the Quaffle in his hands and Katie took off after him. Coming from the side she used her body weight and dug her left shoulder in just under Marcus arm on his right side. He grunts and his hands loosen on the Quaffle, taking the opportunity she gets her hands on the quaffle tangling their arms together. The shock wore off by now and he began pushing her back with his right elbow. "Watch it, stupid bint" He roared a scowl plastered on his face.

Fumbling with the quaffle she used all her strength to try and pry it from his hands, but he was clearly stronger than her, so she needed to be smart about this. Taking her right hand and making a fist, she punched the front of the quaffle popping it from his grasp. She rocketed downwards tucking the ball under her arm as she used her whole body to flip upside down heading in the opposite direction, away from the Gryffindor goals. She could feel him hot on her heels as she reached the Slytherin goals faking a toss to the left and going for the one on the right. Confusing the Slytherin keeper and successfully scoring for her team.

Then she heard it from the speakers "He's got the Snitch! Harry Potter receives 150 points for catching the Snitch!"

Shortly after the whistle was blown by Madam Hooch and she announced, "Gryffindor wins!" Half of the crowd began to cheer, and a smile grew on Katie's face. Until she remembered her friend on the ground. She flew to where Angelina was located, teachers were already surrounding her and getting her to the hospital wing.

It was a tough game and even though Slytherin cheated they had still won. Katie landed on the ground and made her way with what was left of her team to the changing rooms. She snatched her possessions and rushed out opting to take a shower in the common room instead.

As she made her way down the hallway, she rounded a corner and spotted Marcus with a despondent look on his face. Ignoring him she held her head high and attempted to pass him. Moving too fast for her to respond in time, he intentionally knocked into her. "Whoa there." He said while chuckling.

"What the fuck" she exclaimed agitated. Stumbling to her feet, she whirled to face him. Not backing down, even though he stood a foot taller than her.

"Well maybe you should watch where you're walking." Marcus said leering at her with an eyebrow raised. She couldn't help but notice a hint of ferocity in him that made her wary.

She let out an audible groan. "Don't you dare act like that wasn't deliberate."

He took a long look at her and she tightened her arms around her quidditch bag and broom. "Yeah, I was tottally trying to walk into a scrawny Gryffindor." He remarked.

Her sense of grievance had overwhelmed her sense of self-preservation. "Well, I wouldn't put it past you, you happen to be a prick." She rolled her eyes in exasperation.

"Someone's knickers are in a twist," He said.

Her eyes widened with surprise "Oh, shut it. You're a lousy cheater, and it didn't even help you win." Katie said gloating over their recent victory, she watched as his nostrils flared with anger.

"Is it exhausting being so honorable all the time." He said dryly tilting his head to the while glaring down at her.

She should have been afraid; he was bigger and stronger than she was. Instead, she glared at him puffing her chest out, "Can't help it when I'm near an asshole."

"Well, my feelings are hurt" He taunted holding his hand over his heart, only receiving an annoyed grunt from the blonde girl. She raised her right hand making an unmistakable one fingered gesture. Marcus laughed as he walked off.

Before he disappeared, she shouted out "Have some dignity when you play."

That is how her first conversation with Marcus Flint went. After spending all those months admiring his flying abilities. She wondered what would have happened if they had spoken on Halloween. Would that conversation had gone that same way? Would he have been nice to her that night, or had he already known that she was on the Gryffindor team. The night she was sorted Katie knew she had stood out from the first years, so she assumed he had already known. What would have happened if Angelina had not gotten so sick that night? She would spend many nights wondering all the different what ifs. Even if he was a prick.

The girls eventually found themselves in their beds gossiping, while Angelina continued to drink. "I swear he's a first-rate asshole" Katie was fuming. "You know what I said to him before he left "Have some…" She was cut off before she could finish.

"Yes, we know, you've already told us a dozen times" Alicia complained throwing her arm over her eyes dramatically. Katie's face turn red as she picked some lint from her blanket.

"You don't have to be so snarky" Katie complained, frustrated with how the day had gone. "Ugh I'm sorry, he makes me cranky."

Alicia sighed knowing her friend was clearly frustrated. "Trust me we know; he has a habit of making everyone annoyed."

Just before Christmas break Katie found herself seated with her normal group at the Gryffindor table, Angelina was telling her a story about her Christmas the year before. Katie was zoning out after having finished her meal, helping herself to some ice cream. She looked around the great hall, scanning the room with nothing particular in mind she saw a few kids exchanging holiday gifts. Katie loved this time of year, marveling at all the Christmas decorations in the hall. They had been up for a few days now, but Katie loved them all the same.

She spotted Marcus across the room, Daphne Greengrass a girl a year younger than her was hovering at his side. Daphne slid a present wrapped in a shiny green shade across to him. She was a petite girl, with a bobby pin holding back her platinum blond hair that fell just above her shoulders. To Katie she didn't look like anything special. Marcus finally unwrapped it and pulled a green sweater from the box.

"You're creeping" Alicia shook Katie from her thoughts clearly noticing where the girl attention had been.

Startled Katie met eyes with Alicia.

"I am not. Simply observing." Katie huffed crossing her arms in frustration.

"More like obsessing" Angelina whispered tickling Katie's side, causing her to let out a small shriek.

"It's crazy to me, that someone would want to be hated. You know I saw him shove past a Ravenclaw the other day and laugh. Whatever, if he wants to be hated then her certainly got his wish." Katie rambled on not noticing the look the two other girls exchanged.

"Katie Bell, I will not and do not want to talk about Marcus Flint until after the holidays. We should be having fun not sulking" Alicia scolded her. Katie sighed and nodded her head promising to behave.

After dinner Katie, Angelina, and Alicia started getting ready in their room. Gryffindor was throwing a party before most of the students went back home. Katie was excited to go back and see her dad for the holidays, her mom not so much. Her mom still hadn't written her since the first day of school.

When they finished getting ready, they headed down the stairs mingling in with the kids already there. Katie had decided not to drink that night, knowing it was not a good idea to be around her parents hung over. Within an hour Angelina was drunk and clinging to George for dear life while they snogged on the opposite couch. She was a little crazy but in an enjoyable way.

She felt the cushion next to her sink, looking to her left she noticed Oliver Wood. "So, are they officially dating yet?" Oliver questioned her with a playful look. He was wearing an ugly Christmas sweater with a red present with a gold ribbon on it. His brown hair was trimmed, and it showed off the remarkable symmetry of his face.

Katie laughed and sipped on her soda before replying "Yeah he asked her a couple days ago." She was happy for them and glad that he had finally asked her out. He had invited her to a picnic and asked her, which Katie thought was sweet.

"Well, lassy is having a good time tonight, eh?" He pointed out in his Scottish accent.

They continued chatting for a while, until Fred called him over. Katie spent the rest of the night with Alicia since Angelina was busy with George. Katie later excused herself early and headed to bed, excited to at the very least see her dad.

Waking up on early the following morning, she got dressed in a pair of black under armor leggings and a grey sweater. Grabbing her broom, she headed to the pitch. Wanting to just fly around for a while, with no intention of playing. Simply wanting to practice her turns and speeds, knowing that she was sloppier when making an abrupt left turn. Mounting her broom, she flew high up and enjoyed the brisk morning air. After flying for a bit, she decided it was time to head in. Not wanting to be stuck there for the whole holiday break. Katie made her way down the corridor and was shocked to see Marcus round the corner at a fast speed, with a look of panic on his face. He briefly bumped into her causing Katie to stumble back.

"What the fuck..." before she could finish Marcus covered her mouth with his right palm. With his other hand he reached behind her and opened a door. All but dragging her in. They stood in an empty classroom; with his left hand he pressed his index finger to his lips shushing her.
