Chapter 3: Days of Yesterday Part 2

The room was filled with an uncomfortable silence. Both Ozpin and Glynda had taken a seat at the foot of his bed and sat there thinking. Ryler felt like he should say something. He had just explained his entire life story to both of them. Right now they were stunned beyond words, a blank and thoughtful look painted on their faces. It was a bit much, he had to admit. After all, it wasn't everyday that you got to meet an actual alien. Even if that alien was actually a human. He stood there in silence just letting them absorb all the information he provided to them.

"So, you have powers that is neither a Semblance nor magic?" Ozpin was the first to break the silence. His question was a simpler one to answer. "That's almost right, it's not magic as you know it. From what I was told it is still magic but at a universal level. It's more like cosmic powers." Ryler felt himself start to ramble so he stopped at that.

"You said you know our future, can you tell us how? Glynda, ever the perceptive one, held onto that one fact. He wished she hadn't. It was one thing to make up a n excuse why he knew the things he did but when people started asking for his help... If people knew what he could do then they would all want him to fix their problems for them. That kind of dependence was a serious dilemma. He wanted to help people but if it meant taking away their independence, was he supposed to be okay with that? He hated these types of situations because it always meant he was the bad guy to someone. He would rather be happy living his life than miserable leading a nation.

"I can't actually see the future it's more like I see a possible future. Even just talking about it now could have drastically altered the future I saw. And no I will not tell you any details of the future I saw." Ryler crossed his arms and tried to look as serious about this subject as he could. For him that a was a real struggle. Apparently it worked because Ozpin agreed they would not ask him about it again. He breathe a sigh of relief that he wouldn't be forced to change any future events. Even he didn't what would happen so it was best for literally everyone in Vale that he didn't change a thing. As oddly demented as that thought was at least he could help them when his knowledge of the show ran its course. Which wasn't for a while by the way.

Things started to get a little less serious when they started talking about the Things he could do. He was a little on edge of showing off his abilities. He didn't want to be used as a pawn in Ozpin game. Again, he'd rather be happy living his life instead of fighting in a war that wasn't his to begin with. He told them he would only show them his powers if they agreed not to let anyone else know without his permission first. That meant all his lieutenants and closest allies. Naturally they agreed and Ryler knew he could trust them. For about an hour he demonstrated all the thing he could do. Everything from changing his shape to look like Glynda, which earned him some looks of suspicion from said woman.

"Don't worry Glynda, I never use this ability for any dubious acts. It's purely for recon missions." He told her while using her voice. Ozpin reassured her that Ryler was still trustworthy which worked a little but he had a feeling that she was still a bit cautious of this ability. He changed from Glynda to Roman Torchwick. "Well, it looks like you finally caught me." Ryler said completely in character. "Don't worry, the real me is still out there, I'm not the one committing those roberies." He changed back into his normal self before he continued through his power set.

He made a couple things materialize in his hands like a book, a pencil and a business card from the front desk in the lobby. He told them that there were limitations to this ability and these were not things he made but rather took from somewhere else in the hotel. "I can't just make things appear out of nowhere. My powers work on the same principles as the universe just in a faster and more concentrated level. If I wanted a wooden bookshelf then I would need a supply of wood and not steel. But if that bookshelf existed somewhere else on Remnant then I can just teleport it to my location instead." Ryler lectured both of his temporary students. "The universe can't make or destroy matter and neither can I, I can only transform it from one thing to another. In order to gain something, something of equal or greater value must be given up. That's the principle of equivalent exchange" "Yes! Real life FMA reference. Another one off the bucket list."

From there he made a ball of Ki appear in his hand, floated a few feet off the floor, used telekinesis, telepathy, super strength, super speed, invisibility and even made a pair of hard light shields appear on his arms. Almost everything they could think of he could do. When they asked if he could bring the dead he stopped in his tracks. He looked away from both of them.

"No. It's not possible. Like I said, something of equal or greater value has to be given up. How do you measure a soul? Quantifying someone's aura is not the same as putting a true, indisputable value on the actual soul itself." Ryler looked back at them and they both could see how serious he was about this one. Oz and Glynda silently agreed not being this subject up again. They could clearly see that it was a sore spot for him. "I just had to make that FMA reference didn't I." Things had become awkward and uncomfortable again and Ryler was trying to find some way to change the topic. Apparently the universe was looking out for him because he heard someone gasp from behind him. During his showcase, he hadn't realized that he was now standing with his back facing the reference hall. He turned around and the first thing he saw was a red hood. It was the girl from last night. Ruby

"Wow, are those hard light dust shields? That's so awesome! How do they work? I don't see a dust case, is it hidden? Can you make other things, like scythes? Can I try it on please?" Ruby really was a weapons nut. Ryler made the shields disappear as he was now the one to be stunned into silence. He just met her again and she was talking as if they had always meant to trade weapons designs. He looked back at the other two occupants in the room, silently pleasing for their assistance. It's a good thing that they noticed.

Glynda stood up and greeted Ruby. "Good morning miss Rose, I'm pleased that you could make it today." she pulled out the chair she sat in before Oz showed up and offered it to Ruby. Ruby sat down, remembering that she had been called to a strangers hotel room because both the Headmaster and his second wanted to talk to her about her joining Beacon.

When she was taken to the police station last night, she was afraid that she was going to be punished for getting in a fight in public. She was an unlicensed, Junior Huntress in training, using an unregistered weapon in the middle of the night. On a school night no less. But it was either try and stop the people robbing the poor old man or do nothing when the chance to be a hero presented itself. She didn't need to debate what the right choice was. She wanted to help people and she do so at all costs. she was given a stern talking to about the possible danger she could've out herself and others in. She thought she was only going to be yelled at by the scary but somehow still pretty Headmistress. That is until he walked into the room. Ozpin, Headmaster of one of the best Huntsman training academies in all of Remnant. He asked her about how she learned to handle a scythe the way she did. She told him that it was her uncle Qrow who taught her. It was an overall pleasant conversation until he asked her a question she never knew she wanted to be asked. "Do you want to come to my school?" That one question sent her into shock. Was he serious? Was it all a joke? Maybe she was dreaming and she was about to wake up before she could say yes. Maybe he was serious, but should she go or finish her training at Signal first. She didn't know what to say and before she could say anything at all he spoke up again.

"You do not have to decide at this moment. For now return to Signal and come to this address in the morning at about 6:30." He slid a piece of paper that had an address and a room number on it. He then slid her another sheet of paper, she saw that this was a signed permission form that allowed her to leave campus for the day. After that he left and Yang showed up a few seconds later. She walked out of the interrogation room she was in and out to the main lobby of the police station. She saw her dad talking with a few officers as he filled out a couple of forms. He was livid. He scolded her about fighting when she should have called the authorities. It turned into a lecture about knowing when fighting or calling for backup was a better option. She was happy but kind of embarrassed to be getting a lecture on from of so many people. Happy because it meant that her dad was happy that she was okay. Okay enough to be lectured. The sisters made their way back to Signal as their dad went to their home on Patch. He made sure that Yang would keep Ruby out of trouble for the rest of the night. A weird flipped for the both of them from their usual positions of Ruby keeping Yang out of trouble.

Ruby snapped back to reality when she heard someone calling her name. It was Ozpin, he was looking at her as if he was waiting for her to do or say something. "I'm sorry, I kinda got lost in my thoughts, what were you saying?" She chuckled and rubbed the back of her head. Oz looked amused and asked his question again.

"Have you made your decision about my offer last night?" He asked. Ryler wondered what offer he gave her other than the one to attend Beacon. But they should have finished that discussion last night, unless... "oh no..."

X-X.

Ryler searched his surroundings for something. All he saw was a never ending expanse of the pure white void. He was currently standing in his own mindspace. It was a place he often went to when he needed to really get away from the real world. When even his powers were not enough. He was he for one reason, he needed to talk to someone. He lifted his hand straight into the air and shot a blue flare directly from his hand into the never ending sky above. Nothing happened. He waited for about a minute before he heard the distinct sounds of an engine. He looked up and saw a plane pass over him. It looked to be a biplane, like the kind used in WWI. It circled him a couple times before it was sent into a nose dive in the direction behind him. There was no sign of the pilot changing course or trying to save the plane. Before it hit the ground, however, a figure jump out of the cockpit. The figure fell for a couple of seconds before landing in a crater about 20 meters away. The plane landing, or rather crashing, in a gigantic, explosive ball of flame and destruction another 30 meters farther. It was a pretty epic entrance for anyone. "Do you have to crash a plane every time I come here?" Ryler asked the figure who had made their way to where he was standing.

"Don't act like you didn't enjoy it, Kid." The pilot, who was clearly female, said as she took of her helmet. She was clad in the stereotypical aviator outfit. Complete with leather flight jacket and aviator sunglasses. Her dark skin and hair made the single white streak of hair standout even more. Green orbs eyed Ryler from behind her shades, silently observing. Ryler was now face to face with the person he once trusted with everything, including his life. "You haven't been here for quite a while, what did you mess up now?" She smirked as her teasing got the best of Ryler.

"You're one to talk, remember the time we had to escape that mobsters basement? Or the time we got lost in the middle of nowhere in Alaska? What about the time we needed to deliver a single letter to General Kelvin?" Ryler crossed his arms in front of his chest in annoyance.

"Hey, that delivery job wasn't my fault, there were too many King Stalkers for us to handle alone." She pleaded her case to Ryler.

"They were hibernating for only a week Sarah but you wanted to postpone the mission. And why was that again? Oh, I remember now, it's because you wanted to, 'experience the genuine Arcterian gambling scene' as you put it." When Ryler said that she couldn't come up with any kind of response and just pouted. Sarah usually did that as a way to ask for forgiveness from Ryler. It always worked. He sighed as his defenses were quickly brought to a crumbling mess. It was impossible for him to stay made at her when she made that face. It was like yelling at a whimpering puppy, you just can't.

Ryler turned around and saw a door had appeared there. He walked up to it and opened it to find a replica of his current room in Vale. It even had him sleeping on his bed. He walked into the room and sat on the bed where he had before when he was being interviewed by Glynda. Sarah followed close behind him and shut the door. She looked around the room and took the seat at the desk.

"So where are you now?" Sarah knew that he only came to her when something was truly troubling him. Despite her earlier teasing, she was genuinely concerned for her friend. She never wanted anything bad to happen to him. To her he was like a weird mix of a son, friend and apprentice all at once.

He was fidgeting in his seat, like he didn't want to tell her something. It was a habit he had yet to break and she could spot it a mile away. She made sure to maintain the contact whenever he looked back in her direction, which wasn't often. She was growing tired of these games but before she could yelled at him to spill his secrets, he spoke up. "Well, I'm not on Earth anymore." Ryler voice was low and hard to hear from the way he hung his head. He knew he had to tell her but he was really dreading the lecture he was sure to recieve.

"...don't tell me you're on Remnant..." It was more of a sigh with words than it was a question. Nevertheless he nodded his head to confirm her suspicions.

"And Ozpin and Glynda know about my abilities." He kept going, digging further and further into a pit he was sure to die in. It would be his own grave that he dug but he knew it would be easier to make if he was honest about everything. Sarah just sat there waiting for him to go on. "I had a run in with Torchwick and they started investigating me. When they saw that I seemingly came out of nowhere, I had to tell them the truth, so I did. Also, Ruby thinks she knows what my weapon is because she walked into my hotel room while I had my light shields on. Apparently, Oz gave her his offer to attend Beacon but he waited to get her answer until the next day. That's why she was in my hotel room. And boy let me tell you, it's a good thing she was on time because of she got there early she would have seen me doing a lot of different and weird things with my powers. Things that aren't as easily explainable by using the Semblance excuse. Anyway, he asked her again and she said yes, naturally. But then, and here comes the big issue, he asked me if I wanted to go to Beacon too! I wasn't expecting that so I said I needed to think about it. They left and I collapsed on my bed and immediately came here for your help."

Sarah didn't move, she didn't speak, she didn't do anything except process all the information Ryler had just dumped on her. Ryler for his part was again fidgeting in his seat. He waited for her answer and prayed that she would make his death a quick and painless one. Minutes passed and still they say in uncomfortable silence. FInally, after a good 10 minutes, Sarah mumbled something Ryler couldn't quite make out.

"Um, what did you say?" Ryler, still weary of her full reaction, nervously asked her. She stood up and approached Ryler. Her head had been hanging when she first spoke so this was the first time he'd made eye contact with her since he finished explaining his situation. The look she had have Ryler chills, it utterly shook mom to his core. She was pissed.

"MORON!" Sarah shouted at the defenseless boy before her.

"Maybe I shouldn't have told her after all."

Another rewrite done.
