Chapter 9: No Way Out

AN: And so we continue with the slow updates. Unfortunately time has not been on my side, so I'm constantly trying to make some in order to sit down and actually write. This chapter is actually one of my shorter one for that very reason. I do apologize that it's taking me this long to finish a chapter, and I'm hard at work trying to make a suitable time. I hope that the next chapter doesn't take that long to finish. I also want to thank all those that reviewed the last chapter.
If there is someone here for "A Daughter's Difference", the chapter is being written out, but those chapters always range in the 10,000 words mark, so they take an extra long time to actually complete (at the current rate I'm able to work on). It will be done soon though.
"And you're sure this is the location of their camp?" Dekaido asked the kneeling yellow-skinned alien in front of him. The leader of the space ship sat in his throne room, in a very relaxed form with his knees bending over the arm of the chair and his back resting on the other arm of the throne.
"Yesss," he affirmed as his small tongue continuously slithered in an out. "I made sssure to ssstay out of sssight. The white-haired one did not know I wasss following her, and if ssshe did know, then ssshe made no attemptsss to ssstop me."
"Did you see Gohan, perhaps?" the Saiyan inquired while playing with the little bang of hair that came down his face.
The robed snake-like creature shook his head. "No, I only sssaw a few of the other fightersss, but I did not sssee Ssson Gohan," the creature added in a low growly voice.
Dekaido stroked his chin as he contemplated the information brought to him by his scout. The only one that had managed to live, and come back to relay the information, of the group he sent down. Finally a small smile crossed his feature as he fixed his posture to better fit the chair. "Thank you. The information you brought back to us will prove to be invaluable. I do feel sorry for the loss of you comrades, but know that their sacrifice will not be in vain. You may go back to your quarters and let your learder, Serv, know of your success."
The robed alien bowed his head once again before standing up straight and walking out of the throne room.
Once the alien had left and the doors shut, the room began to dim and small lights from all sides of the walls came to life as they converged in the middle forming a large rotating transparent sphere. As the see-through globe slowly turned, a blinking red dot emanated from replica Earth display.
Dekaido pushed himself up from his chair, while casually climbing down the small step towards the center of the room and the sphere's location. His pearly-white canines were fully visible from the large grin on his feature. Dekaido's low chuckles grew until they became a roar. "I have finally found you," he announced while his eyes locked on the red dot. "Still, I'm not surprised you're in 439."
Sir, what will you do with this information? The voice of the bodiless Obai emanated from no one-point origin, but rather came as a surround sound stereo from all around.
"That should be obvious, Obai," Dekaido gleefully responded.
Will you precede with plan 'Falling Sky' then? Shall I commence preparations? The AI asked the lord of the ship.
Dekaido shook his head. "No, it is much too soon to enact that plan. We still need to find out more information about these warriors Ry brought." The images shifted from a rotating earth to multiple panels displaying the recovered footage from the soldiers he sent down. "It's just too bad that Serv's army is just too weak. They may be the best for infiltrations and sneaking around, but they are depressingly weak and couldn't even bring any new information about them," he said as he watched every member of the Fang Clan annihilated.
The tailed Saiyan slowly made his way back to his throne. He shifted his cape to the side as he took a seat once again. His head resting on his palm as he continued watching the same limited footage over and over.
If I may, I suggest using Equistal's troops for an attack. They are by far your strongest platoon.
"Yes but they are also the fewest in numbers. I want to preserve most, if not all, of Equistal's army for when we actually attack." He snapped his fingers as declared, "I got it. Obai, please call Hemli."
The request of his presence has been sent. Lord Dekaido, why Hemli of all people? His nest is made of small critters, what can he and his army do that another group could not? The female voice asked.
Dekaido chuckled, "Strength and size are not always the only determining factors in winning a fight Obai. They certainly help, but they are only two of many factors. Besides, Hemli's nest has the fastest fighters in our arsenal."
Before the conversation between the Saiyan and the AI could continue, the doors slid open revealing a small warrior decked out in an armor fitted to his small stature. The room immediately lit up while the holographic displays disappeared. The small furry creature paid no heed as he walked to center of the room and kneeled before Dekaido.
"You called, my lord?" Hemli announced, his red eyes never leaving the man on the throne.
"There he is. Come Hemli, you don't need to kneel, my friend. Please rise," Dekaido requested of his smallest general. He continued, "A few days ago you came to me to offer your services to the cause; can I still count of that support?"
The now standing Hemli rested his hand on the hilt of the sword to his side. He blinked a couple of times before answering, "Of course Lord Dekaido. My men and I are ready to do battle."
Upon hearing that response, Dekaido's grin grew larger. "Excellent, I need you to assemble a group with one of your best lieutenants at the helm, leading a charge against Son Gohan's campsite. I will not lie my friend, there will be heavy casualties, so I suggest you choose wisely."
"There will be no support, correct my lord?" Hemli inquired.
Dekaido shook his head. "No, their mission is to fight with Son Gohan's forces, and bring back invaluable data about their fight power and what they are capable of." He felt no need to hide this from the small rodent general, as Hemli was smart enough to see through any of his lies.
Hemli once again stayed quiet, but this time his eyes gazed down at the tile ground below. Dekaido leaned forward from his chair, "Is there a problem?"
Hemli's red eyes locked on to Dekaido's onyx eyes. "No problem, my lord. I do have a request though."
Dekaido settled back once again. With one hand, Dekaido gestured him to continue.
"I want to take my whole group," Hemli declared with a firm voice. "I will lead the charge against Son Gohan and his followers."
"Hemli…" Dekaido started, but the general cut him off and continued speaking.
"I know you are in charge of how many go, but I'm asking… no, I'm pleading you to let me and my army, as a whole, fight and give you what you seek. I know it's a suicide mission, but I would rather go down with my men, than select a few to sacrifice."
Dekaido frowned as he listened to his mini speech. "Is it really necessary? Plus don't you and your men want to return to your home universe?"
Hemli closed his eyes as bowed his head. "There is nothing for us to return to. We lost everything, and the only thing that keeps us going is the chance that we will take down Son Gohan and his offspring. We are ready to die as long as it gives you the opportunity to take him down once and for all."
The seated Saiyan's frown deepened with each word that came out of Hemli's mouth. Finally he sighed and relented. "Is this really what you want?" he asked, but Hemli quickly nodded, so he continued, "Then I grant you my permission to take all of your soldiers. Obai, please make note that I'm granting Hemli permission to take all of his soldiers."
"Thank you my lord," Hemli added as soon as Obai acknowledged the change to the manifesto.
Dekaido gave him a weak smile as he stood up and walked to one of the walls. He pressed his palm on the surface and opened a hidden cabinet. He fished through the items inside until he pulled a small bracelet.
Hemli watched as their leader pulled something out of his hidden compartment and made his way to stand in front of him. His curiosity begged him to lean forward to see what Dekaido had between his hands, but as a dutiful soldier he knew better than indulging in those pesky wants. Still he tilted his head as Dekaido lowered himself to his level.
Dekaido began speaking while looking at the small bracelet in his hand with half-closed eyes. "I know that unlike the others on the ship, that joined primarily to better themselves in their respective universe, your army joined because of the hatred for Son Gohan's children. You didn't want to dominate your universe, only to purge of the evil that Son Gohan spread. In a lot of way you reminded me of what I used to be; always fighting against the superior foes, but never having the strength or intelligence to beat them. To always be second-best, in the shadows licking our wounds, no matter how much we scarified, we could never match their power." He placed one hand on Hemli's shoulder. "I know you don't agree with what I have become, but I thank you for putting up with us and making this sacrifice."
Dekaido took one of Hemli's hands and slowly place the bracelet until it was above his furry bicep. He tightened it to the best of his abilities, since Hemli's arms is a lot thinner than Dekaido's wrist. "Take this; I hope it brings you much luck, my friend," he ended the speech with a warm smile. Dekaido slowly stood up and made his way back to his chair.
Hemli looked down at the precious rock bracelet that was now tied to his arm. They seemed personal to Lord Dekaido. It took him a few seconds but eventually his gaze returned to the lord of the ship. "Maybe in a different time we could have been comrades, but for better motives than just hate-filled vengeful reasons. If you'll excuse me my lord, I have much preparation."
"Go," Dekaido simply stated.
Hemli was making his way out before he stopped the sliding door from closing behind him. "It was an honor to work for you, Lord Dekaido. I know my sacrifice will not be in vain, but I just hope that you find inner peace as well when you accomplish the mission." With that stated, Hemli allowed the door to close as he continued to make his way back to his army's quarters.
"Well his Ki looks like Uncle Goten's," Rem began.
Then Vasco continued, "But he looks nothing like him." Both twins continued to inspect the smiling Goten in front of them.
"Hi, I'm Goten," Gohan's younger brother gleefully introduced himself before dashing to do the same to someone else.
Both auburn-haired twins tilted their head as they tried to match their drill sergeant Uncle Goten with this energy-packed chibi version of him. "Nope, I don't see the resemblance," they echoed the sentiment at the same time.
"Goten! You better not be running around indoors!" shrilled the Son matriarch from the kitchen. This was followed by a series of crashes and sounds of ceramic pieces falling to the ground.
"SON GOTEN!" roared the angry mother of two. Goten choose wisely to leave through the nearest window, lest he bear her wrath.
"Its okay mom," Gohan assured his short-tempered mother. "Most of those vases were just decorations that came with the house… actually they felt kind of out of place, if you ask me."
Chichi turned her sour look to her first-born. "That is not the point Gohan. Goten needs to learn that there is a time and place for roughhousing, and that place is not indoors."
Gohan only sighed as he knew it was pointless at times to argue with his mother. "Still, thanks for coming. Most of the guys have been on edge lately, and maybe a home cooked meal will wind them down."
"Of course!" Chichi exclaimed. "If there is one thing I have learned over the years, from you and your father, is that you Saiyans are at ease after a nice meal. Plus it gives me the opportunity to actually meet my grandchildren. Given that you failed to bring them over like you promised." She ended her rant with a pointed look.
A weak chuckle escaped the young Saiyan's mouth as he scratched the back of his neck. "Sorry, it's just been kind of chaotic here. I've had to play referee when they get out of control and start fighting amongst themselves. And I don't mean sparring, I mean full blown death matches."
"Not easy, is it," the Son matriarch remarked with knowing smile.
"No it isn't," agreed Gohan with a few chuckles of his own. "I don't know how you did it to raise the both of us alone, mom. I have newfound respect for what you must have gone through all these years."
Chichi only shrugged off the compliment. "I guess I can't take all the credit. You were pretty calm son, and nowhere near as rowdy as Goten has been, so I have a bit of an advantage. Plus you are an acting parent to eleven young adults."
Chichi looked around the living room where most of Gohan's children were either talking amongst themselves or watching the television. Finally her eyes landed on one soul away from all others. Her pale complexion and outer-worldly appearance gave out a vibe of a stoic loner. Chichi tried to discreetly point in her direction while getting Gohan's attention. "So… is she also one of your children?"
Gohan nodded, "Her name is Fuyu. Apparently in her universe, I married Frieza's sister. She is the daughter of that union."
"Frieza?" Chichi asked skeptically. "Like in Frieza, the intergalactic tyrant that Goku beat all those years ago, that Frieza? How in Kami's name did you end up marrying in his family?... And is she on our side?" The last question she whispered to Gohan, not that it helped as all those with Saiyan's genes could easily hear her, especially the one in question. Fuyu huffed and turned away from the mother-son duo.
Gohan watched Fuyu's action and only sweat dropped at Chichi's oversight of their fine hearing. "You know that she can hear you, right?"
Chichi covered her mouth as her eyes quickly darted in Fuyu's direction.
"It's okay mom." Gohan said while place one hand on her shoulder. "She is just a little sensitive when people question her loyalty. To answer your question, her mother may be part of Frieza's family, but it seems that Froze, her mother, and I rebelled against the Cold Family and took over the organization that the family had. It's a quite a story to wrap your head around. I'll tell it to you another day when we have more time."
"Agreed," Chichi replied. "Well, I better get back to work. That food isn't going to cook itself."
Gohan slowly made his way towards Fuyu. "You know that she didn't mean that way," he assured Fuyu referring Chichi's earlier comments. "In this universe we only know what Frieza has done, so unfortunately his sins have been passed to you. She didn't know that your mother is different from the Cold family."
The white-haired Ice-jin let out a deep breath before speaking. "There is no need to defend her, father. Even in my universe, she does accept of my parent's union. We only met once, but after hearing how she spoke to my mother, my father chose to abandon any ties to the Earthlings and especially her."
"Well in any case, I'm sorry if she offended you." Gohan decided to change the topic. "Dinner will be completed soon."
"Thank you father," Fuyu replied as she resumed her vigilance through the window.
Dinner was a great success. With the help of Chika and Pan, Chichi was able to make a banquet fitted for the numerous amount of Saiyans attending. As the evening progressed, stories were exchanged and many laughs filled the vibrant dining table. Chichi got to meet and speak with almost of the children present, almost all because some chose to have a quiet dinner.
Fuyu had never been much of a sociable person, so she opted for silence and Chichi, respectively, selected to not pursue a conversation. Not to mention she was still a little embarrassed that Fuyu had heard her question her loyalty. In any case, Chichi determined that she would talk to the Ice-jin at a later day, when the awkwardness lessened.
Another silent member had been Ryoko. They mysterious man ate in peace, disregarding the noise around the table, and his eyes were distant. Ryoko may be at the table physically, but his mind was hundreds of miles away. He continued to race through all the events and scenarios where Dekaido's actions could have made sense.
In the end, after dinner, he retook his chair in front of the TV. The news team in front of him continued to relay the aftermath of the disaster in South City. His half-lidded eyes darted from one side to another, until his pupils suddenly stopped in the center. Ryoko's eyes went wide as his head began to rise. He quickly turned to look for the tallest of Gohan's children. "Rize!" Ryoko shouted suddenly, making those in his general area jump from his sudden outburst.
"Yes?" the tall maroon-haired young man replied from the other side of the room. His conversation with Gohan stopped midway because of the urgency in Ryoko's voice.
Ryoko jumped from his seat and asked while walking towards him, "Who did you send to South City again?"
"Um…" This confused the giant, but he still answered anyways. "I believe Vanee was already in that town, while I sent Rem, Vasco, Kyra and Fuyu with Chika as their guide to the city. What is going on?"
Ryoko ignored his question as he quickly turned heel and looked around the room for all the ones mention. His panicked look began to give those around him a bad feeling, and this was cemented with his next question. "Those of you that went to South City, when you were coming back, did you make sure no one was following you?"
Rem and Vasco were the quickest to answer. "No. Those army guys were never going to catch up to us anyways."
"I'm not talking about the army. I mean the guys you were fighting. Did you make sure no one was following?" Ryoko asked once again.
Both twins looked at one another before shaking their heads. "We didn't sense anyone following us, and we always try to make sure at least one of us is constantly on the lookout."
"Vanee? Fuyu? Chika? And where is Krya?" The onyx-haired man inquired.
"Kyra is on patrol with Pan," Gohan added.
The dark blond haired boy shrugged his shoulders. "I was trying to calm my mom, but no, no one was following me." Chika replied in a similar manner.
Finally Ryoko turned to the last person that had gone to South City, present at the moment at least. "How about you Fuyu? Did you make sure no one followed you home?"
"My scanners didn't pick up any abnormalities or anyone following me," she answered pointing at the scouter over her eye.
"How about actually Ki sensing? There are some that can hide their power level from a scouter. Did you make sure you were also trying to sense out any Ki following you?"
"I…" She gritted her teeth as she looked away. "I don't have that ability. I rely on my scouter and my other senses."
"Crapbaskets," Ryoko muttered. "Alright everyone, pick up everything you can. This place may be compri—" Before Ryoko could finish, Krya came rushing in.
"Guys, I think you might want to see this," she announced as she slammed the door open.
Ryoko was the first to come out of the capsule house, and there all around them were pairs of red eyes. The surrounding forest was filled with these ominous eyes staring back at them. Ryoko turned but all around he saw that the forest, that had provided them with cover, was now crowded with pairs of red shining eyes.
"It's too late. We're surrounded," Ryoko revealed to the others.
AN: The next chapter will be Origin: Pan, and hopefully Chapter 10 will be completed at around the same time, so I'll be able to upload them a few days apart.
So tell me, what do you guys think will happen in this scrimmage?
Dear Smithback,
Lack of time is always awful. And it seems it's not getting any better.
That is something I have always seen, in those fics where OC have major roles, the other Z fighters are sidelined for these new characters. Now I can't say that I'm any different, but I'm trying to at least include them and have them help.
Glad you liked the chapter.
Dear Son of Whitebeard,
Hahaha so much Sibling fun.
Dear kitsunelover300,
That is actually a really good idea. I now wish I could have added a child with that backstory. Unfortunately I did not think of that. Ryoko only used Goku as an example since Bulma holds Goku as the strongest.
As for the twins logic, I got to say that sound reasonable. It made perfect sense to me.
I guess the only question is whether Rize's Gohan will ever know what happened in his absence. Otherwise he will never get that wack over his noggin
