"Victor and Gloria had finally reached Spikemuth, only to discover that it had been locked down. Meeting Marnie, they learned of her connection to the town and its Gym Leader. With a mission on hand, our heroes are ready to open up Spikemuth and challenge the Gym Leader, Piers."

"Sneaking into Spikemuth"

Marnie, Morpkeo, Victor and Gloria run to the side wall of Spikemuth, before crunching down. Marnie slides a loose brick out of the wall, before the four crawl through the hole.

After a few seconds, Marnie pulls the brick back into the hole, as Victor and Gloria look around Spikemuth, with its buildings seemingly closed together.

"This town seemed really crammed," Gloria says, as Marnie stands up, before Gloria starts to blush. "Oh, Marnie, I'm sorry."

"It's okay, I understand how people could see Spikemuth as crammed," Marnie says, taking a step forward, looking around. "But I have always seen it as a home."

Victor smiles at her.

"We better hurry and find my brother," Marnie says, before she and Morpeko start to lead them.

"Morpe."

The group goes from building to building, stopping to make sure no one is in sight, before continuing.

"Marnie, Piers did allow Team Yell to lock up Spikemuth," Victor says, as the group continues. "So are you sure he will accept my challenge?"

"I honestly don't know my brother's feelings about what Team Yell is doing," Marnie starts. "But I'm confident that he will accept any challenge that approaches him. We just have to reach him."

The group continues through Spikemuth, when all of a sudden, a red beam shoots out of Gloria's backpack, forming Sirfetch'd, who uses its leek to block a Weavile's claw, with everyone stops running.

"Sir! Fetch!"

"Weav!"

The Weavile backs off, with Sirfetch'd holds out its leek in defense in front of Gloria.

"Is that a Weavile?" Victor realizes.

"It is, which means," Marnie starts.

"Looks like we have trespassers."

Marnie looks to the side to see three Trainers, "Eric!"

Eric crosses his arms, with Paul and Jean standing on either side of him.

"Who's that?" Gloria asks.

"It's Eric, Team Yell's unofficial leader," Marnie explains.

"Hey! It's that wannabe we told you about!" Paul yells, with Eric looking annoyed.

"Yeah! And it's that never-be we also told you about!" Jean yells, with Eric looking annoyed.

"Even in their own hometown, they yell," Gloria holds her ears as she looks away.

"So, how did outsiders got into Spikemuth?" Eric asks.

"I let them in," Marnie places a hand on her chest.

"Marnie, you are the future of Spikemuth, but that doesn't mean you are allowed to do whatever you want in Spikemuth," Eric says. "Now stand aside, while I eject these outsiders."

"Yeah, and we'll help!" Paul throws a Poké Ball.

"Yeah, payback time!" Jean throws a Poké Ball.

Linoone and Nickit form from red energy next to Weavile.

"Linoo!"

"Kit!"

"Very well," Victor holds up a Poké Ball, when Gloria holds out an arm in front of him.

"No, Victor, you need to be at your best to challenge the Gym Leader," Gloria says, before throwing two Poké Balls. "We will handle this!"

Inteleon and Impidimp form from red energy next to Sirfetch'd.

"Intel!"

"Impi!"

"Weavile, Fury Swipes!" Eric holds out a hand.

"Linoone, Pin Missile!" Paul calls out.

"Nickit, Assurance!" Jean instructs.

"Sirfetch'd, Fury Cutter! Inteleon, Snipe Shot! Impidimp, Sucker Punch!" Gloria holds out a hand.

"Sir! Fetch!" Sirfetch'd swings its leek repeatedly.

"Weav!" Weavile strikes repeatedly with its claws.

Sirfetch'd and Weavile's attacks collide several times.

Inteleon's eye gleans, before it holds out a finger and fires a beam of water from it, "Intel!"

"Linoo!" series of needles shoot from Linoone's back.

The beam of water blows past the needles, before colliding with Linoone, sending it flying backward.

"Kit!" Nickit charges ahead.

"Impi!" Impidimp holds back its fist, before launching it forward, knocking Nickit back.

Linoone and Nickit are knocked against each other, with their eyes whirling.

"Pathetic, when was the last time you trained your Pokémon?" Eric asks.

"We've been so busy supporting Marnie…!" Paul yells, rubbing the back of his head.

"We actually didn't have time to train our Pokémon!" Jean yells, rubbing the back of her head.

Eric sighs, "Doesn't matter, I will deal with this myself." He looks ahead, "Weavile, get around and use Night Slash!"

"Weav!" Weavile runs around, before it's claw surrounds with dark energy and strikes Sirfetch'd in the back.

"Sir! Fetch!" Sirfetch'd spins around, but Weavile jumps back.

"He's fast, but there has to be a way to beat it," Gloria says.

"Intel! Intel!" Inteleon cheers, with Imipidimp watching it.

"Impi! Impi!" Impidimp starts cheering.

"Your Pokémon can cheer all they want, but it changes nothing, nothing can beat Weavile's speed," Eric says.

"Nothing can beat its speed…" Gloria says. "So let's use it."

"Sir, Fetch," Sirfetch'd holds out its leek.

"Sirfetch, run!" Gloria calls out.

"Sir, Fetch?" Sirfetch'd looks at its Trainer, surprised.

"That way, trust me!" Gloria points to the side.

"Sir, Fetch!" Sirfetch'd nods its head and starts running in the direction.

Eric smirks, "If you think you can wear out Weavile, then you got another thing coming. Weavile, give chase!"

"Weav!" Weavile starts running after Sirfetch'd.

Sirfetch'd reaches a wall, stops and turns to face the quickly approaching Weavile.

"End of the line, out of luck, Weavile, end this with Night Slash!" Eric calls out.

"Weav!" Weavile, still running, stabs forward with its claw, as it surrounds with dark energy.

"Sirfetch'd, now, jump!" Gloria instructs.

Sirfetch'd jumps up at the last second, with Weavile's claw getting stuck in the wall, as the dark energy dissipates.

"Weav?!" Weavile is unable to pull the claw out of the wall. "Weav! Weav! Weav!"

"Now, Sirfetch'd, Rock Smash!" Gloria instructs.

"Sir! Fetch!" Sirfetch'd brings its leak down on Weavile, before jumping away.

"Weav…" Weavile lies on the ground, with its eyes whirling.

"Alright!" Gloria punches up.

"Intel!"

"Impi!"

Sirfetch'd watches Gloria, seeing her as a princess as she smiles, "Well done, Sirfetch'd."

"Sir! Fetch!" Sirfetch'd bows.

Marnie smiles, before turning to Eric, "Okay, Eric, please, let my friends pass now."

Eric sighs, "We are far from done."

Suddenly, more Team Yell members pop up, surrounding the group. Victor and Gloria look at all of them, getting nervous.

Then they are distracted by the sound of a guitar, with them all looking to the distance, to a platform, where Piers plays a chord on his guitar.

"What's going on here?" Piers asks, without looking up.

"Team Yell had been blocking Trainers from entering Spikemuth and challenging you," Marnie explains.

"I don't care what others are doing," Piers responds.

"But it's your job to care," Gloria says, annoyed.

"What would a never-be know!" Jean yells.

Victor takes a step forward, "May I say something, sir."

"Don't call me sir," Piers looks up, and sees Victor. "I remember you from the opening ceremony."

"Opening ceremony?" Victor repeats.

"While I was absent, I did see it on TV, and I remember how nervous and stiff you were," Piers explains.

"Right…" Victor rubs the back of his head, blushing, before lowering his head. "Anyway, as Gym Leader, you have a duty to accept any and all challengers.

Piers strikes a chord, "I'm aware of my duty, which includes coming up with a Gym Challenge." He strikes another chord. "And if you unable to enter Spikemuth on your own, then you failed my Gym Challenge."

"That's obviously not a Gym Challenge, just something Team Yell did on its own," Gloria complains.

"What would you know, never-be?!" Paul yells.

Piers strikes another chord, "Fine, I will accept your challenge, on one condition." He strikes a chord. "If you win, then Spikemuth will be reopened to the public and I will accept any challenges." He looks up, facing Victor eye to eye. "But if I win, then not only will Spikemuth remain locked down, you will quit the Galar League completely."

Victor, Gloria, and Marnie each look at him, surprised.

"Q-Quit the Galar League…" Victor says.

"Piers, I will challenge you on that condition," Marnie says.

"No you won't, Marnie," Piers looks at his sister. "I will accept a challenge from you anytime, but no deal."

"This isn't fair," Gloria says.

"It's okay, I will accept," Victor says, keeping his head down.

"You don't have to do this, Victor," Marnie tells him.

Victor raises his head, with a small smile, "I will have to beat Piers anyway to continue in the Galar League. So, I'll be fine."

"Good luck," Gloria says.

Victor nods his head and starts to walk over.

Piers hops off the platform.

With Victor and Piers standing several feet away from each other, Eric walks over to the side.

"Fine, then I will act as referee," Eric says.

"Wait, what about Dan?" Gloria asks, with Marnie looking at her.

At the front entrance to Spikemuth, Dan is banging on it.

"Hey, let me in!" Dan calls out. "I'm Referee Dan!"

"I don't care if you're Champion Cynthia, you're not coming in!" someone inside responds.

"Let the Gym Battle begins!" Eric raises a hand.

"Go Scrafty!" Piers throws a Poké Ball, which opens, shoots out red energy and forms Scrafty.

"Scraf! Scraf!"

"I choose Arctovish!" Victor throws a Poké Ball, which opens, shoots out red energy and forms Arctovish.

"Tovis!"

"It's that Pokémon from before, but I never saw Victor use it in any of his previous Gym Battles," Marnie crosses her arms.

"Victor got it recently, this is actually its first Gym Battle," Gloria explains.

"Tovis! Tovis!" Arctovish happily calls out.

"Alright, Arctovish, I know we can do this," Victor tells his Pokémon.

"Tovis!"

Piers plays a guitar chord, "Scrafty, use Fake Out!"

"Arctovish, use Freeze-Dry!" Victor calls out.

"Tovis!" Arctovish responds, as its mouth starts to glow blue.

"Scraf! Scraf!" Scrafty moves in close to Arctovish, before slapping its hands together.

"Tovis…" Arctovish moves back slightly, as its mouth stops glowing.

"Did Arctovish flinch?" Victor realizes.

"Now Sand Attack!" Piers instructs.

"Scraf!" Scrafty spins and swipes a hand across the ground, shooting sand up and at Arctovish's face.

"Tovis!" Arctovish says, with its eyes barely opened from the sand.

"Arctovish, quick, Freeze-Dry!" Victor instructs.

"Tovis!" Arctovish shoots a large blast of ice from its mouth.

"Scraf!" Scrafty jumps to the side, dodging the attack.

Piers strikes a chord, "Back to back Brick Break, Scrafty. Show them they can't win!"

"Scraf! Scraf! Scraf! Scraf!" Scrafty runs at Arctovish, strikes it with a chop, turns, strikes it with another chop, jumps over it, strikes it with a chop again, then charges and strikes it with one more chop.

"Arctovish, use Water Gun!" Victor calls out.

"Tovis!" Arctovish lowers its head and shoots a blast of water from its mouth.

"Scraf!" Scrafty dodges the blast of water.

"Tovis! Tovis!" Arctovish keeps on firing blasts of water.

"Scraf! Scraf!" Scrafty runs side to side and jumps to keep on dodging the attacks.

"Sand Attack lowered Arctovish's Accuracy, right?" Gloria asks. "At this rate, they might not be able to hit it."

"Maybe…" Marnie says, as she watches.

"Scraf! Scraf!" Scrafty jumps left to right, dodging blasts of water, till it gets blasted and knocked back.

"Alright, you got it!" Victor calls out.

Piers strikes a chord, "Payback."

"Scraf!" Scrafty jumps off the ground and charges ahead, punching Arctovish and sends it flying backward.

"Arctovish!" Victor calls out, as his Pokémon returns to its feet.

"Tovis…"

Piers strikes a chord, "You're relying on luck to damage Scrafty, but it's gonna take more than luck to beat us. Scrafty, use Brick Break!"

"Scraf!" Scrafty charges Arctovish, as it gets closer.

"Arctovish, Freeze-Dry!" Victor instructs.

"Tovis!" Arctovish shoots a large blast of ice from its mouth.

The attacks hit Scrafty, knocking it back, with small pieces of ice form on it, "Scraf!" The pieces of ice shatters upon it falling on the ground.

"Great shot, but Arctovish's Accuracy was lowered," Gloria says.

"It was, but the Water Gun was washing away the sand that was in its eyes," Marnie says.

"Right, so I just have to wait till Scrafty gets close enough that Freeze-Dry's accuracy would be improved," Victor explains.

"Not bad," Piers says, before striking a chord. "But you're still relying on luck too much. While I only rely on power and skill. Scrafty, Payback!"

"Scraf," Scrafty returns to its feet, before charging ahead. "Scraf!"

Arctovish, stop it with Freeze-Dry!" Victor holds out an arm.

"Tovis!" Arctovish shoots a large blast of ice from its mouth.

"Scraf!" Scrafty runs through the blast of ice, with its arms crossed, as pieces of ice form on it. "Scraf! Scraf!" It gets closer to Arctovish. "Scraf!"

Scrafty punches Arctovish, before sending it flying backward.

Arctovish lands hard on the ground, with its eyes whirling, "Tovis…"

"Arctovish is unable to battle!" Eric announces, with members of Team Yell around them cheering.

"See you stand no chance, wannabe!" Paul yells.

"There's no point to battle any further!" Jean yells.

Piers strikes a loud chord, with everyone stops cheering, "My Gym Battle is a three on three match." He looks ahead. "Send out your next Pokémon."

"Right," Victor nods his head, before throwing a Poké Ball. "I choose Silicobra!"

The Poké Ball opens, shoots out red energy, which forms Silicobra.

"Sili."

Piers strikes a chord, "Scrafty, Brick Break!"

"Silicobra, use Brutal Swing!" Victor calls out.

"Scraf!" Scrafty charges ahead.

"Sili!" Silicobra starts to spin around.

Silicobra's tail collides with Scrafty's chop, and after a second they try the same attacks, with each colliding with the other.

"Scraf! Scraf! Scraf!"

"Sili! Sili! Sili!"

"They're even, except…" Victor watches, before holding out a hand. "Silicobra, get back and use Bulldoze!"

"Sili!" Silicobra jumps back, before slams its tail onto the ground, shaking it.

"Scraf! Scraf!" Scrafty is having trouble keeping its balance.

"Now, use Brutal Swing!" Victor calls out.

"Sili!" Silicobra spins, swinging its tail and knocking Scrafty back.

Scrafty falls onto the ground, with its eyes whirling, "Scraf…"

"Tch, Scrafty is unable to battle!" Eric announces.

"Hey! No fair! Completely unfair!" Jean yells.

"Yeah! He's a wannabe! He must've cheated!" Paul yells.

"He didn't cheat," Piers says, with Paul and Jean looking at him. "Scrafty had grown tired from battling and was slowing. Victor simply took advantage of that." He looks ahead, at Victor. "You might give me a small challenge."

Piers holds out a Poké Ball, which shoots out a red beam, before he throws another Poké Ball, "Go Malamar!"

The Poké Ball opens, shoots out red energy, which forms Malamar.

"Mala! Mala!"

"Malamar, let's start off with Psycho Cut!" Piers strikes a chord.

"Mala! Mala!" Malamar swings a tentacle, sending an energy blade flying.

"Silicobra, counter with Brutal Swing!" Victor instructs.

"Sili!" Silicobra swings its tail, which collides with the energy blade for a moment, before the attack pushes Silicobra back. "Sili!"

"Now, Night Slash!" Piers calls out.

"Mala! Mala!" Malamar charges and strikes with its tentacle, as it glows black, sending Silicobra flying back.

"Sili!"

"Silicobra, use Bulldoze," Victor instructs.

"Sili!" Silicobra slams its tail onto the ground, shaking it with Malamar having trouble keeping its balance.

"Mala!"

Piers strikes a chord, "Malamar, Payback!"

"Mala! Mala!" Malamar charges and punches Silicobra, knocking it back.

"Now, Psycho Cut," Piers adds.

"Mala! Mala!" Malamar swings a tentacle, sends an energy blade flying, blasting Silicobra in midair.

"Sili!" Silicobra calls out, as it lands hard on the ground.

Piers strikes a chord, "Psycho Cut again!"

"Silicobra, quick, use Dig!" Victor instructs.

"Mala! Mala!" Malamar swings a tentacle to send an energy blade flying.

"Sili!" Silicobra jumps and digs into the ground, dodging the energy blade.

Piers plays a couple chords, "Malamar, use Psycho Cut on the ground!"

"Mala! Mala!" Malamar spins around, before starting to swing its tentacles, sending multiple energy blades flying against the ground.

"What are they…" Victor wonders, before his eyes widen. "Silicobra, hurry, get above ground."

"Sili!" Silicobra bursts out of the ground behind Malamar.

"Malamar, Night Slash!"

"Brutal Swing!"

"Mala!" Malamar spins around, with a tentacle surrounded with dark energy.

"Sili!" Silicobra, in midair, spins around to swing its tail.

Both attacks collide, before they back off.

"Psycho Cut!" Piers calls out.

"Headbutt!" Victor calls out.

"Mala!"

"Sili!"

Malamar starts to swing a tentacle, releasing an energy blade, as Silicobra slams its head against it, causing an explosion.

Everyone watches, before Malamar and Silicobra fall down, with their eyes whirling.

"Mala…"

"Sili…"

"Silicobra, and Malamar, are unable to battle!" Eric announces, clearly annoyed.

Members of Team Yell, including Jean and Paul, are booing at Victor.

"Will you stop that!" Gloria yells at Team Yell, with Marnie looking at her with a sweat drop.

Gloria exhausts, before looking back ahead, "At least, Victor is doing well."

"Perhaps, but now he has to battle my brother's most powerful Pokémon," Marnie tells her.

Piers strikes a chord, before throwing a Poké Ball, "Go Obstagoon!"

The Poké Ball opens and shoots out red energy, which forms Obstagoon, who crosses its arms, "Obst, goon!"

Victor throws a Poké Ball, "I choose Raboot!"

The Poké Ball opens and shoots out red energy, which forms Raboot, "Ra-boot!"

Victor's Rotom Phone rises up, "Obstagoon, the Blocking Pokémon, It evolved after experiencing numerous fights. While crossing its arms, it lets out a shout that would make any opponent flinch."

Piers holds out a hand, "Remember our deal, if you lose this Gym Battle, you will quit the Galar League."

"Ra-boot!" Raboot calls out, surprised.

"Don't worry about that, Raboot," Victor says, with his Pokémon turned to face him. "I believe in you."

"Ra-boot," Raboot nods its head.

"Okay, Raboot, let's start off strong with Double Kick!" Victor instructs.

"Ra-boot," Raboot turns back ahead, and jumps ahead.

Piers strikes a chord, "Obstagoon, use Obstruct!"

"Obst, goon!" Obstagoon calls out.

"Ra-boot!" Raboot kicks at Obstagoon, but a barrier appears between them, blocking the attack, with Raboot jumps away.

"They block the attack, but at least Raboot doesn't take any damage," Gloria says.

"But it's still just as bad," Marnie starts. "Direct contact with Obstagoon's Obstruct caused Raboot's Defense to lower."

"Then we just lower their Attack," Victor says. "Raboot, use Growl!"

Piers strikes a chord, "Obstagoon, use Throat Chop!"

"Obst, goon!" Obstagoon charges ahead, before slamming its arm against Raboot's throat.

"Ra-Ra," Raboot's having trouble talking.

"Raboot!" Victor calls out.

"Now, Shadow Claw!" Piers instructs.

"Obst, goon!" Obstagoon's claw is surrounded with shadow, before striking at Raboot, knocking it back.

Raboot lands hard on the ground, before starts coughing as it pushes itself up, "Ra-Ra, Ra-boot…"

"Raboot, are you okay?" Victor asks his Pokémon.

Raboot looks at its Trainer and nods its head, "Ra-boot."

"Okay, then use Ember!" Victor holds out an arm.

"Ra-boot!" Raboot shoots a series of small fireballs from its mouth.

"Obstagoon, dodge and use Shadow Claw!" Piers strikes a chord.

"Obst, goon!" Obstagoon runs to the side, dodging the small fireballs, as its claw is surrounded with shadow.

"Raboot, use Flame Charge!" Victor calls out.

"Ra-boot!" Raboot starts to run ahead, while surrounded by flames.

"Obstagoon, Counter!" Piers instructs.

"Obst, goon!" The shadow around Obstagoon's claw vanishes, before it crosses its arms, with a barrier surrounding it.

Raboot slams against the barrier, which glows, before blows Raboot back with an explosion, "Ra-boot!"

"Now, finish your Shadow Claw!" Piers instructs.

"Obst, goon!" Obstagoon jumps up to the midair Raboot, with its claw surrounded in shadow, before strikes it down, knocking it against the ground.

"Ra-boot!"

Members of Team Yell are cheering.

"That you get for challenging Gym Leader Piers!" Jean yells.

"You're a wannabe, and now you'll be a never-be too!" Paul yells.

"Don't they ever stop," Gloria says, with a hand to her ear.

"I think I made a mistake," Marnie says, looking down. "And it ends up causing Victor his chance in the Galar League."

"You shouldn't count Victor out yet," Gloria says.

Marnie looks at Gloria, who smiles.

Piers strikes a chord, "This had gone on far enough. Obstagoon, finish it with Shadow Claw."

"Obst, goon," Obstagoon looks back at its Trainer, with a grin, as its claw becomes surrounded in shadow, before it charges ahead. "Obst, goon!"

"Raboot, counter with Double Kick!"

"Ra-boot!" Raboot runs ahead and then jumps.

"Obst, goon!" Obstagoon brings its shadow covered claw down.

Raboot's kick collides with Obstagoon's claw, with them both held in place. But then Raboot slowly gets pushed back.

"Ra-boot…!"

Raboot continues to get pushed back slightly, "Ra-boot!"

Suddenly, Raboot manages to push Obstagoon's claw back.

"Obst, goon!"

"What?!" Piers says, as he watches the shadow vanish from Obstagoon's claw and sees small burn marks on it. "Did Raboot burn Obstagoon's hand with the soles of its foot?!"

Raboot spins around and kicks Obstagoon's chest, "Ra-boot!"

Raboot starts to land on the ground, as soon as it does, Victor calls out, "Flame Charge!"

"Ra-boot!" Raboot jumps off the ground, surrounded in flames, and slams against Obstagoon, sending it flying backward against a wall.

As smoke and dust clears, Obstagoon is seen lying on the ground, with its eyes whirling, "Obsta, goon…"

Eric looks on, in complete disbelief, before slowly raising a hand, "O-Obstagoon is unable to battle… V-Victor is the winner…"

"Alright, Victor!" Gloria jumps up with a fist.

"Good job, Raboot!" Victor picks up Raboot and hugs it. "You were amazing."

"Ra-boot!" Raboot happily yells.

"I… lost," Piers says, before smiling. "It had been awhile since I lost. It doesn't feel too bad."

Piers approaches Victor, who, still holding Raboot, looks over at him, "Victor, you have earn the Dark Badge."

Piers holds out the Dark Badge, whose design resembles a demonic face with horns and wide, toothy grin.

The Dark Badge is added to the metal ring.

Victor holds up the metal ring, "Alright! We got the Dark Badge!"

"Ra-boot!"

Piers turns to everyone else, "And from this moment onward, Spikemuth will be open to all challengers!"

"If that's what you want," Eric says, clearly upset.

"Also, Team Yell won't interfere with any more Gym Challengers," Marnie takes a step forward, with her arms crossed.

Jean and Paul look at her, surprised, before they quickly jump in front of her, bowing.

"We're very sorry, Marnie!" Paul yells.

"It won't ever happen again, Marnie!" Jean yells.

"And please, don't yell everything anymore," Marnie says, annoyed.

"We won't, we promise," Jean and Paul whisper, very softly.

"There's no middle ground with them, is there?" Gloria asks, with a sweat drop.

Marnie approaches Piers, "We might not have a Power Spot, or a fancy Gym, but Spikemuth is still a part of the Galar League, and that is enough to be proud of."

"You right, like always," Piers nods his head. "And I look forward to your challenge, little sister."

Marnie nods her head, then turns to Victor, smiling, "Thanks for your help, Victor."

Jean and Paul lean behind Marnie, watching her smiling.

"I'm glad I could help," Victor tells her, with Raboot standing next to him.

Gloria approaches her friend, "And now you only have one more Gym before you will qualify for the Galar League."

"Ra-boot!"

"Right," Victor smiles, before looking at the Gym Badges in the metal ring. "Almost there."

The Gym Badges shine.

"At long last, Victor had claimed his seventh Gym Badge, as well as free Spikemuth to face more challengers. Now, our heroes will set out for the final Gym Badge. What kind of adventures will they face along the way?"

"Find out, as the journey continues…"
