Accents
"Morning." Captain Blue greeted the room at large and made a bee-line for the New York Times on the central table of the Officers Lounge, hoping he'd gotten to the crossword before Grey.
"Good morning. Coffee?" Scarlet asked as he poured one for himself, only to pause, blink, and mentally replay what he'd just said.
Instead of pronouncing it as 'co-fee', the word had come out closer to 'caw-fee'.
With an exasperated expression, Scarlet put down his mug, turned to his partner and in the most precisely enunciated cut glass accent that any of them had ever heard from him ordered "Adam, keep that bloody American accent to yourself! It's contagious!"
"As long as you keep that British one to yourself!" Adam laughed as he claimed the newspaper. "I was talking to my mother the other day and asked her if she'd seen anything good on the 'telly' lately."
"Ha! You should hear Fawn when he code-switches." Scarlet grinned. "He starts dropping the professional accent and becomes increasingly 'Aussie', I half expect him to come up with a 'crikey!' or 'strewth!'. The nurses say you can tell how irritated he is by how Australian he sounds."
