Chapter 6 (MARCH)
Before she knew it, March came and it was time for Ginny to personally appear before the ministry and be questioned and interviewed one last time before she would officially no longer be a married woman. Unlike before she could not be given special accommodation and either have the members come to her, or for her to give testimony via magical communication portals. Last time they used two-way mirrors! But now there were paper to sign and so she wore her wizarding robes and went into the secret closet/small room in the house she could apprate from and apparated to Ron & Hermione's house. Hermione was her ministry aid during these last few months and Ginny was eternally grateful to have her on her side. Hermione had been her secret weapon during these last few months and Ginny was eternally grateful to have her on her side. Hermione had found, used, and referenced ancient laws and precedent to both grant and expedite Ginny's separation. Under normal circumstances wizarding divorces took two years and with the full consent of both parties. Without Hermione Ginny would need to wait until AFTER Harry returned, and IF he consented to a divorce she could start her separation proceedings. If it had not been for her friends extensive love of reading old text books and retaining information her life would be in limbo until Harry returned and then the battle would begin. Ginny had offered to pay Hermione something, if not money then favors, but Minone had said Ginny was family and what Harry had done was wrong so she would have done it anyways, but researching was fun and so worth the effort. At the time Ginny thought her friend mad, but now she understood. Researching something that was interesting to the researcher on a topic that carries weight, importance, and relevance to a person can be fun.
The meeting went well, Ginny was questioned, again, in minute detail about the series of events before, during, and after the first pamphlet being circulated and was found to be eligible for separation in accordance to some forgotten ancient abandonment law Hermione had based her argument on. The only hitch was that if Harry was to reappear within the next 2 years and contest the divorce, hearings and proceedings would have to start over. But three hours after arriving, and after 10 months of constant harassment, Ginny was declared a single woman once again.
Now she had to go to Gringotts, show the certificate of divorce, withdraw the monies she was awarded by the ministry and deposit it into her own account. Also she needed to remove Harry as an authorized person on her account (she was able to freeze him out before, but not completely remove him), have the bank issue written proof that it was done to the ministries specified orders, file that within the folder that the ministry had on her divorce proceedings and then they would "stamp" her file with the ministry seal and thus indicating it as complete and her divorce would be final. As final as it could be for the next 2 years.
Once she was no longer Mrs. Harry Potter, Ginny felt determined to walk out of the ministry courtroom and into the public area. She knew it would be filled with reporters wanting to ask her questions; but thankfully no hacklers would be permitted. She had decided that this would be the first and only time she would answer questions and had her answers prepared:
Yes, she was no longer married to Harry Potter.
Yes, there is ample proof that he was unfaithful during their marriage.
No, she had no inclination of his extra marital activities, she had believed him when he said he needed to leave to work on a case or spend guy-time with his mates.
No, she will not comment on the couples discussions and decisions on not having children.
No, she would not lay blame on who is at fault for the dissolution of their union. They had loved one another and due to not being able to talk to the man herself, she would not indulge in slander or conjecture.
Yes, if Harry were to return during a set amount of time, he may contest the divorce. But that would most probably only affect the division of properties fore she had no desire to mediate or reunite with the man.
No, she has no inclination of where Harry is, how to get in touch with him, or how/where he has been spending his time.
Yes, due to the constant harassment of the self-named "Potterheads" she has been let go from the Harpies team and will no longer be playing quidditch professionally. Though she has had offers and interest in her from other avenues and aspects of the sport. As well as she has been busy looking into and providing herself with alternate means of employment.
Yes, she received financial disposition from her divorce but she did not feel it right to demand portions of Harry's inheritances. Even though she was legally entitled to it and it was offered.
No, she will not be going back to the Burrow or any of her family residences so please do not harass them there.
Yes, she has a place to reside for the interim and no, she will not disclose where that is (are you stupid?)
Ginny had been carful in saying only these lines and nothing extra, she did not elaborate on any point. She simply waited till a question was asked that could be answered by her list of answers and delivered the appropriate answer before indicating the next question could be asked. It had been something her counselor had suggested and during the press conference she was glad she had decided on that course of action.
Now she would be able to go about her life in peace. There was nothing more to gain from her, the reports had already been slowly shifting the story from her to Harry and his whereabouts and doings so maybe she would be able to go into the wizarding world more freely and openly. She needed to petition the ministry and Hogwarts for permission to a borrow some books, and she was told by the magazine Skeers Weekly that if she were to write her commentary on the next championship quidditch game, they would be interested in printing it. Going to a game and sitting in the stands sounded like pure joy, defiantly something she would do; maybe she would coax Ron into going with her.
Starting a new chapter of her life sounded full of promise and potential.
