Chapter 7
The 100 – solstice
First thank you to those who showed last chapter so much attention, also a special thank you to Christa, Kal11915, Adeana and all the others for your comments I loved hearing your thoughts. i've been meaning to post this for a while but life kept getting in the way, sorry about that.
Now things are going to get better between Bellamy and Clarke this chapter but there are things that need to happen first so be warned about that. Also there needs to be a trigger warning here everything ends fine but there is some hard stuff that is going to be talked about such as consent issues that might prove difficult for some so fair warning.
Well anyone know that's all been said I hope you enjoy the chapter and as always please leave your thoughts.
Clarke
'So even though we all have a conscious mind our instincts do have a level of control over us,' Callie continued lecturing Clarke and the rest of her cast bio class on the ins and outs of cast psychology. 'Each cast feels certain desires,' Callie continued but as she got in to talking about Alpha commands and the desire Omegas had to follow them Clarke found herself increasingly distracted to the point she was unable to effectively take notes.
It had been two weeks now since Clarke and Bellamy had, had their little blow up argument and she'd been avoiding him ever since. She had been trying not to think about it too much but as Clarke sat here listening to Callie talk about Sigmund Freuds theories around alpha commands it was impossible not to think how an Alpha had commanded her for the first time ever two weeks ago. Technically it wasn't the first time but Clarke didn't feel like some of the situations that had happened to her as a kid really counted. Her mum being her mum she had been there all those times and it had been about getting an Alpha who believed as her mum did in regards to the dangers of the world to show Clarke the danger of an Alpha command, so yeah in Clarke's mind Bellamy had been the first Alpha to command her.
It had been so strange how her body had just reacted to Bellamy's command, Clarke had done what he had said without really thinking about it, getting out of that car and walking away just like he had told her too. The idea that Bellamy could do that even with the meds she was taking was really scary as well, the idea that anyone had a power like that over her did not feel like a good thing. Clarke knew having Alpha traits meant she wouldn't like being out of control but she found it hard to believe any woman would just be OK with this situation, her mum had told her enough stories over the years about what some Alphas had done with that power so Clarke knew to be scared.
She understood she had really upset Bellamy with everything she had said, really Clarke did understand that but she found it very hard to just get past the fact he had used an Alpha command on her and the fear as well as other things that fact had sparked within her. She'd even been avoiding Bellamy online as well, they had been connecting a lot on social media before but they weren't doing that anymore, Bellamy hadn't tried to connect with her or anything he seemed to be avoiding her as well but neither had Clarke. They hadn't known each other for that long as it was and they clearly came from very different background so Clarke was beginning to think that maybe they were just too different and perhaps it was a good idea that her and Bellamy stay away from each other from now on.
'However B F Skinner proposed that our instincts are reflections of desire so we are all perfectly capable of ignoring them if we truly want too,' Callie said distracting Clarke away from her inner thoughts about her own issues around her instincts. 'So,' she continued 'using the example of an Alpha command we can draw the conclusion that it is something one chooses to follow on some level and therefore a Beta or even a Omega should be capable of ignoring a command.'
'That's a nice thought,' Clarke whispered sarcastically not really buying the idea; her mum had explained the brain chemistry of why it was impossible more than once to her when she was growing up.
'It's doable Clarke,' Harper who was sitting next to Clarke in the lecture hall said under her breath 'you can trust me on this one.'
'I'm sorry Harper but there's more to it than willpower,' Clarke countered 'there's a lot of brain chemistry involved and that can't just be gotten around.'
'Well I've done it Clarke, and I'm an Omega,' Harper hissed sounding annoyed with her now but also there was a certain level of concern in her voice as well.
'What happened,' Clarke asked surprised, maybe Harper was mistaken, what she was saying shouldn't have been possible.
'It was some ass whole Alpha at a party,' Harper said quickly clearly not wanting to spend too much time on this story 'he tried to command me to do some things I didn't want to do so I walked away, it wasn't easy Clarke but I did it.'
'I'm sorry,' Clarke said feeling guilty now, it was hard to believe that Harper had done what she was saying but it did seem like she was telling the truth.
'It's fine Clarke,' Harper smiled 'that guy ended up apologising anyway actually.'
'How'd that end up happening,' Clarke asked surprised by this development in Harpers story.
'Well,' Harper began her grin widening 'you see Octavia and Bellamy were both at that party and when the guy tried to push the issue neither of them appreciated it and let's just say they both made their feelings clear, it's how I met them actually.'
'Seriously that's how you met Bellamy,' Clarke asked shocked, until now she'd kind of assumed Bellamy and Octavia's friends all went way back.
'Yeah,' Harper nodded 'that's how we met, afterwards they both walked me back to my dorm to make sure I was OK and after that Octavia started inviting me to things and everything just kind of progressed from there.'
'OK,' Clarke nodded not sure what to do with this information, growing up an Alpha command had always been treated as something she was powerless to resist, Clarke's mum had always said it was maybe possible for a Beta to resist a command but not her. She did trust Harper and she knew Callie was the authority on what she was lecturing them on but it was hard for Clarke to just except her mum was wrong on this point and even more so that what had happened with Bellamy had been something some part of her had wanted.
'Why are you so sure it's impossible anyway Clarke,' Harper asked a mixture of concern and curiosity in her voice now.
'Well Harper,' Clarke sighed speaking slowly trying to think of what to say, she wasn't terribly sure what to tell Harper it wasn't like she could just say her mum had been telling her no end of concerning stories since she had presented as an Omega. Even if she could Clarke wouldn't really want too, the friends she had started to make probably already thought she had been sheltered enough growing up already without her adding to it by revealing this was the first time she had really been away from her mum. 'Look it's just I've heard a lot of stories,' Clarke said finally after a minutes thought deciding to try and play it off 'and I'm sure you know what those can be like.'
'Yeah, I really do,' Harper nodded sighing a knowing sigh, 'people do love to share stories about the worst of the casts don't they.'
'Yeah,' Clarke said nodding herself glad Harper was excepting this explanation.
'How are things with you and Bellamy by the way,' Harper asked after a moment's silence, concern showing on her face again.
Clarke knew what this was a sign of, Harper was thinking about the little bet Bellamy had made and from the looks of it she was really concerned about it. She would have been acting on a whim but Clarke almost told Harper she knew about the bet, after all with the way things had turned between her and Bellamy recently she didn't have the same desire to keep up the deception. However just as Clarke was about to do so a loud 'excuse me' drew both her and Harpers attention away from their conversation and back to the class and Callie who was addressing them both now in a clear attempt to get their attention.
'Would either of you two girls be able to tell what is the most effective way to define the difference between brain chemistry and psychology when we are looking at the reasons behind instinctive actions within the casts,' Callie asked pointedly frowning at Clarke and Harper.
Clarke knew Callie was asking this actually very difficult question in order to get the two of them to pay attention to the class, but Clarke's inner Alpha took this as a challenge so she responded to the question as best she could 'in order to assess why the casts act the way they do we would need to look at multiple factors so we would need to take both into consideration.'
This answer got Callie to smile slightly but she still didn't look too pleased 'your right but that's not an answer to my question,' she said through pursed lips 'there are those who say they can separate the two but there isn't actually an effective way so we are left to theorise.' Callie paused here to breve in slightly but then kept talking 'and I am trying to tell you about those theories which is something you will need to know if you want to even begin to understand cast biology so please pay attention.'
'OK,' Clarke nodded feeling extremely embarrassed, her conversation with Harper had really gotten away from her and she had just somehow ended up being admonished by her teacher. Whatever she might be feeling right now and however many things might be confusing her Clarke should be concentrating on her lesson so that's what Clarke elected to do as Callie started talking about the different brain chemistry with the casts, it would probably be a good distraction anyway.
Octavia
Glad that what had proved to be a long day was over Octavia walked into her dorm room with Gaia and immediately let her self-collapse onto her bed that at the current moment was just a ball of various different covers. She lay there for a moment but Octavia soon turned over to look up at Gaia who was now standing over her looking very smart in the business suit she was wearing because of what was going to happen this evening. 'Was your day really that hard,' Gaia asked a look of concern spreading across her face as she spoke and continued to look down at Octavia.
'Yes, actually,' Octavia nodded giving a large sigh, she had only just met up with Gaia outside of the building who had agreed to meet Bellamy here so Octavia hadn't had much chance to vent about her day. She planned to do just that though now she had invited Gaia up here, however before she could say anything else let alone expand on the troubles of her day the door opened and Clarke walked in distracting both her and Gaia.
'O, hello,' Clarke said surprised at seeing them there stopping in her tracks 'I didn't think you would be back yet Octavia.'
'Yeah,' Octavia sighed getting up and moving into a sitting position on her bed 'things didn't quite play out today how they usually do,' as she said this Clarke started moving again walking the rest of the way into the room and putting her bag down on her bed that was neatly made. Seeing this made Octavia feel a little awkward, in a way each of their sides of the room were very different with the beds being a prime example of their different ways of leaving things so she could imagine the sort of things Gaia was probably thinking.
Dealing with Bellamy and all his threating about her now that he was about to leave college was bad enough without her needing to worry about what Gaia was thinking about her as well, so that was why Octavia said what she said next in the hope of directing the attention of the room away from her. 'This is Gaia Clarke,' Octavia introduced gesturing at Gaia 'my aunt, and Gaia this is Clarke, my roommate,' Octavia continued doing the vice versa, she deliberately said this pert evenly so Clarke knew she was being serious about Gaia.
Both girls immediately looked at her, Clarke shocked and Gaia annoyed which was the reaction Octavia had been hoping for because this would definitely move things away from her. While Gaia scowled at Octavia Clarke looked between the two of them in quick succession shock still on her face Octavia noticed, thinking she should explain she opened her mouth to do just that but Gaia spoke first beating her to it.
'She isn't joking Clarke,' Gaia said giving an audible sigh turning away from Octavia to face Clarke 'I really am her ant.'
'But, how,' Clarke asked the shock still not leaving her face, Octavia couldn't help but snigger in response to this question because how exactly did Clarke think it could have happened but she didn't say anything deciding to let Gaia explain.
'My father was Octavia's grandfather,' Gaia said in that calm voice of hers, Octavia knew it as the one she used whenever she was trying to be soothing in order to get people to just leave something alone and not go on any further. Which was what happened here having heard this Clarke gave a curt nod mumbled something that sounded like OK and then sat down on her bed pulling what Octavia knew to be one of her art books out of her bag as she did so. Watching Clarke begin to read her art book Octavia frowned she clearly wanted to ask more about the sorted tale that was the Blake family history but she wasn't asking anything more about it, she was about to push on this point but a knock at the door distracted her.
Turning now Octavia heard her brother's voice announce he was coming in and then a moment later Bellamy appeared dressed in a rather smart looking suit walking through the door. The moment he did so Octavia noticed him stiffen as he saw Clarke sitting on her bed who for her own part turned away from him in a rather deliberate way, it was clear to Octavia seeing this there was tension between them for some reason but she couldn't think why. It occurred to her that the awkwardness or whatever it was she was seeing between Bellamy and Clarke could be to do with Bellamy's stupid bet with Brie, maybe her brother had done something stupid in connection with the bet Octavia thought that sounded like something her brother could end up doing. With this in mind Octavia opened her mouth to speak her plan being to try and probe her brother and Clarke in order to see if this was the case but as it was Bellamy spoke first stopping her.
'You ready to go,' Bellamy said in a curt voice addressing Gaia clearly wanting to get out of here as quickly as possible.
'Yeah, I'm ready,' Gaia nodded moving towards him speaking in a voice that was both grim and curious, she'd picked up that there was tension between him and Clarke as well Octavia could tell. With the way the two of them were making such an effort to ignore the other it was obvious something had happened but the question was what had happened, something in relation to the bet seemed like the most likely option to her. However before Octavia could do anything to probe this theory any further, Bellamy said good bye in a very curt way and practically pushed Gaia out to room. He was desperate to get out of there Octavia could tell but her brother was too quick for her, so before she could do anything Bellamy and Gaia were out the door leaving her alone with Clarke.
To start with Octavia just stared at the door Bellamy and Gaia had left through feeling really blindsided, she just felt like she was being left out of something and that confused her, Bellamy didn't usually keep things from her. Because of how things had been growing up they had both learned to rely on each other when they had problems which was why this was all so confusing, if something had happened with Clarke like it clearly had why wouldn't Bellamy have told her?
As Octavia thought this over the sound of Clarke clearing her throat drew her attention away from her internal questioning, turning she saw Clarke looking at her curiosity clear on her face which Octavia guessed was only natural after what she had just gotten a taste of. 'Octavia,' Clarke began slowly clearly uncomfortable and unsure of herself 'I'd understand if you don't want to talk about it, you wouldn't need to tell me anything if you didn't want too, it isn't any of my business, but if you wanted to.'
'You want to know about my family right Clarke,' Octavia asked cutting through Clarke's awkward rambling as adorable as it was.
'Yes,' Clarke whispered under her breath looking at her feet very clearly embarrassed to be having this conversation.
'Well it's complicated Clarke,' Octavia sighed trying not to laugh at how Clarke was so embarrassed by what to Octavia was just normal family stuff 'but in the most basic terms my grandfather was a real big ass hole and even though he's dead were still dealing with the mess that was that bustards life.'
'Well if Gaia is your ant, I can imagine what kind of person he must have been,' Clarke began looking up obviously shocked by Octavia's use language when talking about her grandfather but Octavia razed a hand stopping her before she went any further.
'Trust me Clarke Gaia is the tip of the ice berg when it comes to my grandfather,' Octavia's said shaking her head at the memories of the man she had hated so much when he was alive that came to her in this moment 'Indra, Gaia's mum was actually his sixth wife.' Octavia rolled her eyes here as she remembered that wedding which she had been forced to be a bridesmaid for but she kept going 'and Indra bless her didn't really have much of a choice when it came to marrying the old bastard.'
'Seriously,' Clarke asked shocked a look of horror on her face.
'O, yeah Clarke,' Octavia nodded 'none of us liked the situation but there wasn't much any of us could do, he'd made a deal with Indra's family the same way he did with Bellamy's grandmother, so tradition demanded everyone went through with it.' Octavia couldn't help but give an annoyed grunt as she said this part, she really hated that excuse 'didn't even matter Indra is an Alpha,' she grumbled 'if mine or Bellamy's dad had been there things might have been different but they had to go an die on us.'
'O,' Octavia said quickly realising what she had just alluded to looking directly at Clarke who looked stunned 'me and Bellamy are actually only half siblings, my dad, Bellamy's uncle actually and our mum got together a few years after Bellamy's dad, who would have been my uncle died.' Octavia paused here surprised Clarke had taken this little bit of info so well most people didn't but she kept going all the same 'they were half-brothers as well by the way only sons my grandfather ever managed to have, Clarke so I think you can see my family history is very sorted.' There were more details when it came to her and Bellamy's respective father's but Octavia didn't really feel like filling Clarke in on those just yet, curiously it was actually easier to talk about her grandfather even with how bad of a man he had been.
'Son's,' Clarke said her voice sounding stunned drawing attention to this word, asking an unspoken question.
Octavia couldn't help but give a little sigh here, she could tell where this was going now, she had kind of started this all though so there wasn't really any point in holding back. 'Having sons were a big thing for him Clarke,' Octavia began letting out another sigh as she spoke remembering so many different parts of her childhood in this moment 'it's what did in his first marriage, he didn't like the fact his wife had given birth to two daughters and was pregnant with a third.'
'You don't mean,' Clarke began sensing what Octavia was getting at here.
Octavia just shrugged in response 'no one ever proved anything Clarke, officially she and the baby died as a result of complications during the birth.' Clarke didn't say anything in response to this she only looked at Octavia with a slightly horrified look so she continued 'after that the bastard made a deal for Bellamy's grandmother so he got married to his second wife barely a year after the first died.'
'What happened to her,' Clarke asked in a small voice her mind clearly going dark places.
'She's actually still alive Clarke,' Octavia said quickly smiling at being able to say this 'even though she had given birth to a son my grandfather had an affair which Bellamy's grandmother made no secret about not liking which apparently was unacceptable to him so he left.' Octavia couldn't help but give a slight laugh here remembering the story as it had been told to her 'in fact Clarke,' she continued 'apparently he literally dropped her and their son back off with her family and a week later married the woman he had been having an affair with.'
'That's insane,' Clarke said her mouth falling open as she spoke 'really a week later.'
'Yeah,' Octavia nodded 'apparently she was already pregnant with my daddy,' she added saying this last part in a deliberately theatrical way.
'Wow, Octavia, so that was your,' Clarke began asking the question Octavia was already ready for.
'Yep, that was my grandmother Clarke,' Octavia nodded giving a resigned sigh 'Bellamy's grandmother is a good women Clarke but believe me mine wasn't, to be honest I'm kind of glad she died giving birth to my dad probably saved the family from some trouble.' Clarke gave Octavia a shocked look in response to this but she meant what she said 'I know that sounds harsh Clarke,' she defended 'but if you knew my grandfather you'd have questions about any woman who would choose to be with him.'
Clarke still didn't look impressed but she nodded 'I guess I can understand feeling that way,' she said 'so who was after that?'
'After that,' Octavia sighed 'there was the one he cast out because he decided one day she was ugly, then there was the one who died under mysterious circumstances along with the guy she was having an affair with and then there was Indra who survived.'
'Wow,' Clarke said shaking her head 'the man really was a bastard wasn't he.'
'O yeah he really was,' Octavia laughed 'never mated but kept marrying women and having affairs with others, didn't get what he wanted though only ever had four kids and both his sons hated him I'm told Until there dying day.'
'What about grandchildren,' Clarke asked suddenly a strange look of recollection on her face 'was Bellamy his only male grandchild?'
'Only one he ever recognised,' Octavia sighed frowning remembering all of the issues this had created for Bellamy while they were growing up, she understood her dad had been able to protect Bellamy when he was alive but after he died he had been at their grandfathers mercy.
'So there are others,' Clarke asked her voice sounding awkward now she was probably able to sense this was getting into an uncomfortable area for Octavia.
'Yeah,' Octavia nodded not sure she wanted to talk about this much more considering the reminder of the current situation this was 'I have one other male cousin Clarke, his names Cage and he's not a nice man.' She sighed here but Octavia kept going 'you see Clarke Cages mother was an Omega and a women so tradition,' she made a point to emphasize this word showing her feelings about it but Octavia kept going 'says he's not part of the Blake family and there for not entitled to inherit anything.'
'So that was something your Grandfather believed,' Clarke asked clearly trying to encourage her to keep going.
'Yes,' Octavia nodded 'my grandfather believed that so Cage got nothing in the will which I'd imagine is why he's challenging it in caught, that's where Bellamy and Gaia have had to go off to by the way,' she added rolling her eyes 'there having another meeting with the lawyers.' Once she said this Octavia let out a frustrated sigh, it had been a mistake to get into this she should have known the conversation would end up here and she would get angry, however there was one point she wanted to make clear to Clarke. 'You shouldn't feel bad for him though Clarke,' she added 'trust me on this Clarke Cage is an ass, you could argue he's worse than my Grandfather, you should see the way he treats his daughter so none of us want him to get one thing from the family.'
Clarke opened her mouth to ask about this which was something Octavia didn't want to answer right now however just then Clarke's phone started to ring bringing an end to the conversation. Clarke apologised as she answered it but she really didn't need to Octavia was happy for the distraction Clarke's call had bought; things really had been getting difficult to talk about so she was relieved the conversation was over. Leaning back on her bed Octavia started to fiddle with her phone as Clarke talked to her boyfriend Finn who was the one calling Clarke, with no plans on listening in however as the conversation continued she found herself listening in more and more to what was being said.
It started small at first with Clarke just saying 'Bellamy's just a guy I know now,' it wasn't much but it was enough to draw Octavia's attention. She continued playing with her phone but multitasking now Octavia listened in on Clarke's conversation with Clarke's boyfriend who she still hadn't met, she could only hear Clarke's side of the conversation but that was enough. She kept saying things like 'that's not true,' or 'I'm not keeping anything from you,' so Octavia could guess the sort of accusations that were being levelled at the poor girl who in her mind didn't deserve them.
Clarke hadn't shared much with Octavia about her boyfriend, she knew his name was Finn which was curiously the same name as Raven's boyfriend and that he was a really nice guy supposedly but that was about it and Octavia was sceptical about the last part. Clarke had told Octavia that her and her boyfriend hadn't had sex supposedly because they were saving them self's which was something Octavia was really sceptical about, she didn't doubt Clarke was being genuine though, it was this Finn guy she didn't trust. In her experience any guy who said he was saving himself was full of it and was just good at hiding the fact they were getting it somewhere else and because of this Octavia was in no hurry to meet this Finn guy. There must be something about guys named Finn she mused continuing to listen in on Clarke's conversation.
Octavia wasn't a fan or Raven's Finn for various reasons and she kept finding more reasons to dislike Clarkes. If she'd had to guess right now Octavia would have said Clarke's Finn was pushing her for details on things that were going on with her at College or more pacifically the people Clarke was hanging around with now. Octavia happened to know Finn didn't have anything to worry about though, frankly Clarke was a goody little two shoes as far as she could see so it wasn't like she or anyone else could lead Clarke a stray even if they wanted to but that was beside the point Finn should trust Clarke.
As things went on Octavia heard Clarke give more denials as the conversation she was having got increasingly heated repeatedly saying she wasn't keeping anything from Finn. Somewhat disappointedly though after loudly saying down the phone to Finn to give her a minute Clarke excused herself from the room apologising for this taking her conversation away from where Octavia could listen in. Octavia was a little disappointed at not being able to ease drop anymore but in Clarke's position she would probably want to keep things private so she understood the desire to not have that argument in front of her.
She briefly tried engaging with playing with her phone again but Octavia soon lost interest in that so giving a sigh she pulled herself up into a sitting position on her bed and tried to think of something she could do. As she thought about this Octavia's eyes wondered across the room and seeing Clarke's neatly stacked books on her side of the room she thought about Bellamy, knowing him he would probably find something to read when he was stuck for something to do. She'd guess Clarke would do the same judging from what she had seen; thinking about this Octavia began to think about Clarke and her brother and what things seemed to be like between the two of them.
There was that little bet of Brie's so she supposed that could be the root of the weirdness she had noticed earlier when it came to her brother and Clarke interacting. If Bellamy was trying to flirt with Clarke or whatever and she wasn't reacting the same way other girls might because Octavia had seen enough to know Clarke wasn't an ordinary Beta that could create weirdness. But as Octavia thought about it some more she didn't know why there needed to be weirdness, she had seen enough of Clarke to know that her and Bellamy were actually rather similar people so there didn't need to be weirdness really. They were both fans of reading, they both seemed to have similar tastes in music and top of that Octavia had seen enough to know they both liked things to be ordered so Octavia didn't know why there needed to be all this weirdness.
Octavia had seen the two of them like each others posts and stuff online on social media, acting like everyone did online but the few times Octavia had seen them reacting to each other in the real world things could best be described as awkward. Maybe it was because of the bet Octavia thought, maybe Bellamy had made a move and Clarke had rejected him so now things were a little awkward after all it wasn't every day a Beta was the one turning down an Alpha, especially one like Bellamy. That was probably it Octavia decided Bellamy had made a move and judging from the way she had seen him call Clarke princess was still pushing things so when they saw each other face to face things were awkward.
Maybe she should talk to Bellamy about forgetting about the bet Octavia thought, because of his condition Bellamy could lose control sometimes so maybe she could help him rain it in a bit. Then again if she was right about this Clarke could be more forceful about pushing Bellamy away if she wanted too and maybe if she wasn't that was a sign she was thinking about dumping her ass hat boyfriend so maybe she should just leave this alone for the time being. After all Octavia had often felt like there were things Clarke was keeping secret about herself so maybe this was it and if that was the case she should definitely leave it alone.
Clarke
Standing in the shower doing her evening routine of rubbing her special body lotions all over herself Clarke thought about Finn and how disastrously there phone conversation had gone. There were things she was keeping from Finn but that wasn't because she was trying to hide anything or she didn't trust him it was just that Clarke didn't want him to worry, it was the same with her mum Clarke hadn't told her certain facts about things that were going on with her but that really was because she didn't want either of them to worry.
If she told either her mum or Finn everything about Bellamy, Harper or any of the others Clarke just knew they would over react, especially when it came to Bellamy, being friends with an Omega like Harper would be bad enough but Bellamy that would be something else entirely. Clarke might not be especially happy with Bellamy right now after he had used an Alpha command on her but she couldn't tell Finn about him doing that. If she had told him about that happening Finn would definitely have told her mum and then she would have to deal with constant worry about a big scary Alpha trying to rob her of her innocence even though Clarke was sure there was no risk of that.
Unfortunately Finn had started to get suspicious with how little she was telling him about everything so the last few times they had chatted he had started to accuse her of keeping things from him. Clarke didn't blame him for that, after all she sort of was but the suggestion that there was something going on between her and Bellamy was uncalled for so as much as she understood why Finn was feeling this ways she was still upset with her boyfriend right now. As Clarke thought about this getting to the tail end of her shower routine and more precisely the idea of something happening between her and Bellamy Clarke began to feel a strange heat in her core one that moved lower and lower in her body as she continued to rub her lotion in.
Realising what that warm feeling was gulping slightly Clarke quickly turned the shower off ending things there and then before they went any further ignoring the complaints of her inner Omega. That kind of thing was something her mum had always taken care to warn her about, it might feel good in the moment but for an Omega it lead's to things Clarke needed to avoid if she was going to continue to pass as a Beta. Choosing to ignore what had almost caused her to break one of the rules she lived by Clarke stepped out of the shower and went about drying herself and getting her things together.
As she did this Clarke thought about Finn, she was really going to need to sort things out with him so they could get on the same page again, maybe if she introduced him to Bellamy and the others he would see there was nothing to worry about. That wasn't the only thing she needed to sort out though, there was still Bellamy because she couldn't keep avoiding him like she had been also there was her mum she was going to need to sort stuff out there as well and after that there was college work to deal with.
'Just a few things then,' Clarke said to herself under her breath as she left the showers and started heading back to her room. Clarke continued to think these problems over as she walked but her inner self's proved to be too much of a distraction, her inner Alpha wanted her to be angry with people especially Finn while her inner Omega wanted her to make things good with everyone so conflict quickly started within her. The warring desires and thoughts were such in fact that by the time she reached her door Clarke decided to let all the issues drop for the evening, closing her eyes she did her best the push both her inner self's down so she could get some peace.
Opening the door and getting back into the room Clarke found Octavia was gone, it was expected though after she had gotten back after her call with Finn and said she needed to take a shower Octavia had said she was probably going to go out. Deciding to get ready for bed Clarke started to think about all of the things Octavia had told her,she had wondered what Bellamy had meant when he had brought up his grandfather when he had commanded her but Clarke guessed she knew now.
From the sounds of it his and Octavia's grandfather struck Clarke as a representation of all the backward traditions and up sessions that were out there when it came to Alphas. It was probably reasonable to assume that man had believed everything was his by right and listening to Octavia Clarke had gotten the feeling he had probably wanted Bellamy to be that way as well. It did confuse her though, if Bellamy didn't want to be like his grandfather whom from the sounds of it might well have been a murderer why did he hold on to the same beliefs that man had probably held. Clarke had wanted to ask Octavia about that but it hadn't seemed like a good idea because it probably would have meant talking about certain things that were between her and Bellamy she didn't want to talk about.
Now in her pyjamas Clarke sat on her bed pushing these thoughts away and tried to decide whether or not to try to get to sleep now or stay up a bit later and read, however before she could come to a decision there was a knock at the door. Giving a slightly frustrated sigh Clarke stood up and moved to open the door this was probably some body looking for Octavia and she didn't really feel up to talking with someone like that right now, however upon opening the door she found Bellamy standing there. He was dressed in the same suit Clarke had seen him in earlier it did look a little crumpled now though, looking him in the eye Clarke was struck by how anxious he seemed. She didn't say anything though; she had a lot of mixed feelings when it came to Bellamy at the moment so she wasn't sure what to say.
'I'm here because I want to make things right Clarke,' Bellamy said quickly breaking the silence after a minute's tense quietness sounding as anxious as he looked.
Sighing Clarke stepped aside to allow Bellamy in, a big part of her a part that her inner Alpha was championing right now wanted to tell him to shove it but Clarke couldn't deny that she felt a kind of release upon seeing him so she could at least let him say what he had come to say. 'You know I have really not liked this princess,' Bellamy said moving into the room and sitting down on Octavia's bed 'not seeing you as been an issue for me, especially with how we last ended things.' Clarke didn't say anything in response to this she just shut the door turned on her heal and walked back over to her own bed and sat down on it so she was right in front of Bellamy, right now she really just wanted to hear what Bellamy was going to say.
'The longer I've been away from you Clarke the harder it's been not to think about you and what happened,' Bellamy continued taking in a deep breath 'however angry I was in that moment it was wrong of me to command you.'
'Bellamy,' Clarke began a sort of concern breaking through within her now, thinking about what she had been told today about it not necessarily being impossible for her to resist an Alpha command as well. She didn't know if she really believed that but regardless Clarke could see Bellamy clearly regretted doing that so she didn't want to make him feel any worse by not saying anything however before she could speak Bellamy razed his hand stopping her and asked for her to let him finish.
'I believe in the power of destiny Clarke,' he said speaking slower now 'I do believe there is a force that as a design laid out for all of us and I'm not apologising for that princess but I shouldn't have reacted the way I did whatever you were saying.' Bellamy took a slight breath in here but then kept going 'I would add though princess I do also believe people make choices about what they do and have the right to make their own choices about how to live their lives.'
That struck Clarke, as apologies went that was a rather good one but Bellamy was making it clear that he did believe in the power of destiny so Clarke wasn't sure how to react to that, plus it did strike her as odd that Bellamy said he believes people have the right to make their own choices. 'So is it that you believe people have the right to make the wrong choice,' Clarke asked after a minutes thought her curiosity on this point overtaking any other emotions she was feeling right now.
'Pretty much princess,' Bellamy shrugged 'but is that really that odd, I'm mean you don't believe the things I do Clarke but I assume you also believe I have the right to hold those beliefs.'
'I guess that's true,' Clarke nodded shrugging slightly herself, her mum probably wouldn't take that position on this kind of thing but she had never seen why people couldn't just agree to disagree on certain things. As she thought about this Clarke remembered what Octavia had said and she realised there was something else she wanted to try and understand 'it's just a bit hard for me to understand why you'd believe those things considering your family history.' Bellamy opened his mouth to respond to this but Clarke could see he was confused so she kept talking in order to clarify what she was getting at 'Octavia told me about your grandfather Bellamy,' she explained 'the kind of man he was and how he treated people.'
'O,' Bellamy nodded understanding now 'I see, you wonder how I could believe in some of the same things he believed in after how he treated me and everyone in the family.'
'Well you have to admit it's a little odd,' Clarke shrugged 'I mean I got the impression Octavia doesn't believe in any of this stuff, so why do you?' Clarke wasn't trying to belittle Bellamy's beliefs she might not believe in the power of destiny but she really wanted to understand why Bellamy did believe.
'You have to remember Clarke Octavia never really knew her dad,' Bellamy sighed regret clear in his voice 'I did, I came to understand what a good man he was as a kid, I idealised him, I still do in many ways and he believed in destiny Clarke.'
'He must have been quite a man, if he could convince you of all this stuff,' Clarke whispered a little put off by how wishful Bellamy looked in this moment.
'Yeah, he was,' Bellamy nodded smiling a weak smile 'you shouldn't think I didn't struggle though Clarke, my beliefs were tested after he died and again after all the things that happened afterwards but I remembered what he taught me about destiny and how some things can just happen.'
Clarke wanted to ask more about this but she could feel things were getting into a sad place for Bellamy so she decided to change the subject. 'How did it go with the lawyer,' she asked thinking this would be a safe subject to enquire on 'Octavia explained some of what's going on with your cousin challenging the will but not everything.'
'Well,' Bellamy began laughing a sarcastic laugh 'things went as they normally do, his lawyers argued there points ours argued our points, there was no real progress and once again the judge asked for time to think.'
'O dear,' Clarke frowned 'I'm sorry I asked.'
'It's fine princess,' Bellamy sighed 'I'm used to all this at this point, this time wasn't so bad actually, Cage had brought Madi so we got to see her which was nice.'
'Madi,' Clarke enquired curious about the name but thinking she knew the answer.
'That's his daughter Clarke,' Bellamy said grimacing slightly as he spoke. 'Cage treats her like she's nothing,' he added frowning a deep frown 'Cage barely acknowledges the poor girl so it was nice seeing Madi so I could show her some affection and all that.'
'Why does he ignore her,' Clarke asked rather taken aback by this reveal.
'Well,' Bellamy shrugged 'for one things she's a girl which Cage definitely doesn't like, he's like my grandfather in that respect plus Madi's too young to present right now but believe me when I say she's going to be an Omega it's obvious when you see her.'
'So he's like that around Omegas,' Clarke frowned immediately feeling moral outrage on behalf of this girl she had yet to meet. When Bellamy nodded to this Clarke shuck her head, it was ridiculous that people had these views about Omegas but they sadly did, it was why she was hiding what cast she was after all. 'What about her mum,' Clarke asked Bellamy thinking there must at least be someone in this girl's life.
'Not in the picture princess,' Bellamy sighed frowning 'sadly that bitch has no interest in Madi either and it is a shame because she really is the sweetest girl.' Bellamy gritted his teeth slightly here clearly holding back anger but then continued talking 'I mean there are a lot of reasons I'm doing everything I can to stop Cage getting what he wants Clarke but the way he treats Madi is a big part of it.'
'What does he actually want,' Clarke asked shifting slightly where she was sitting her curiosity getting the better of her again.
'Mainly he wants the Blake family house,' Bellamy said still frowning 'five generations of Blake's have lived there and Cage wants it.'
'Why,' Clarke asked confused now 'from what Octavia said I imagine he would have no trouble getting a nice house to live in.'
'No he wouldn't Clarke,' Bellamy said smiling a sarcastic kind of smile 'thanks to his dad Cage is actually rather well off money wise, it's a matter of status for him, he's trying to get status.'
'Surely he has that,' Clarke countered still confused 'if he has money he must have status.'
'It's new money princess,' Bellamy said smiling a smile that looked genuine now 'his dad built up a company from nothing, a company that Cage now runs, so it's new money and you know what the really powerful clans are like.'
'O,' Clarke nodded seeing it now 'he wants an in with the clans and this is how he's going to get that.'
'Yeah,' Bellamy nodded smiling that sarcastic smile again which was actually kind of nice to look at 'if you take a clan like the Lightbourns for example they won't even talk to someone with any degree of respect unless there grandfather was kissing there's boot let alone consider doing business with them.' Bellamy let out a large sigh here but then continued 'I can't say I approve but you know that's the way it is Clarke and the truth is they wouldn't see Cage as a Blake so getting the house is his way of trying to get them to look at him as a Blake.'
'Yeah,' Clarke nodded she knew enough about this kind of thing to know what Bellamy was saying was true. The Clans were just old family's with old family money if you really looked at it truthfully but with the casts and thanks to countless generations of breeding they saw them self's as more than regular people and sadly most people agreed with them.
'Were getting off topic though Clarke,' Bellamy said drawing Clarkes attention and bringing things back to why he was here 'I really am sorry, I was angry and I think my condition might have been causing me some trouble but that's no excuse I should have acted differently.'
Clarke smiled at Bellamy as he stood up her inner Alpha didn't want her to except his apology but her inner Omega did, and that part of Clarke came with a warm and fussy feeling so it was the one she decided to go with. 'Thank you, Bellamy,' she said standing up as well deliberately not calling him by his cast designation however much a part of her might want to 'I really appreciate you saying that.'
'Thank you,' Bellamy nodded smiling a really bright smile moving away from her heading towards the door as he spoke 'I guess I'll see you around.'
Clarke should have ended things there, she knew she should have but something snapped within her and on a whim she rushed forward grabbing hold of Bellamy stopping him in his tracks just in front of the door. 'I understand you know,' she began speaking quickly 'you're not the only one with a sub cast condition Bellamy I'm amongst the 1% of Omega's that are considered Apex Omegas, do you know what that means?' Bellamy shook his head looking stunned so Clarke kept going 'basically it mean's I have Alpha traits,' she went on still talking quickly 'I am an Omega but instead of having one inner self Bellamy I have two, an Omega and an Alpha, there's more to it than that but that's the crucks of it.'
'Why are you telling me this Clarke,' Bellamy asked speaking in a whisper looking down at her as they both stood close together right up next to the door.
'Because I want you to know I get it Bellamy,' Clarke said taking a breath here 'I know what it's like to have parts of yourself that it's hard to control sometimes.' She paused here as something occurred to her but before she could over think it she said it 'also Bellamy I think we might be friends now and I want you to know this about me.'
'So we're friends Clarke,' Bellamy asked staring down at Clarke with a certain daring element in his voice.
Part of Clarke the part of her, her inner Omega represented wanted her to say they were more than friends her inner Alpha even agreed she didn't understand why she felt that desire though so she didn't say it. 'Yes we are friends,' Clarke said making herself smile as she said this, there probably was something more here but it was probably just cast biology and body chemical stuff so this was what Clarke decided she wanted, she wanted her and Bellamy to be friends and nothing more. Besides she had Finn, he might drive her crazy sometimes but she loved him and he loved her so the last thing she wanted to do was betray is trust when she knew for certain he would never do that.
Ghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Ok I know that isn't how anyone will have been hoping for that chapter to end but I bet you can guess what's come soon in regards to Finn, I promise you once that happens stuff will really start to happen.
