Dear reader,
Thank you for supporting this story.
I have settled upon a new title which I feel captures this story in a much more honest way.
Hazy Shade of Winter is a song written by Paul Simon which gained renewed popularity when it was covered by The Bangles in 1987. Much like the heroine of our story, the song isn't simply about the season. It's a reflection of journeys taken and roads not travelled down.
"Time, time, time
See what's become of me
While I looked around for my possibilities"
Sometimes, it's easier to look back and see what you missed while you were in the moment, but what is past is past. To dwell in a prolonged winter of frozen memories and try to find warmth among the deciduous forest is a bleak and pointless decision. No matter what you have been through, or how comfortable it may feel to lay down in the snow and rest for a moment... you must force yourself to look forward to the springtime.
"Hang on to your hopes, my friend
That's an easy thing to say
But if your hopes should pass away
Simply pretend that you can build them again"
Winter Reid has the optimistic attitude that I have never personally been able to find, and through creating her, I have given my own soul a deeper exploration.
Different things in this life may force you into a period of winter, and, similar to sinking like an anchor into deep waters, you may find yourself feeling frozen as an unconscious individual... a mere onlooker. It may seem bleak and barren and dark, but in the midst of the harshest winter... you can find a new sense of clarity and desire.
I will continue to write Winter Reid, and I hope you will continue to read as she learns the depths of her character and the might of her strength.
I hope you too, dear reader, are able to find your own sunlight.
"Look around
The grass is high
The fields are ripe
It's the springtime of my life"
Listen to the song down wherever you find music... whether your taste is more Simon & Garfunkel or ladies of the 80s.
Thank you for being here. Stay gold, Ponyboy.
Warmly,
The author
