On with the show!
Jess got a new toy.
And with that new toy, she quickly learned the exciting world of social media.
It all started when Dean gave her a thing called a smartphone. At first she just had a random burner for emergencies, but now it was like she had a miniature computer in her pocket. That morning, she tried to log into her old MySpace account but kept getting error messages that it no longer existed.
Guess that died out while I was gone.
She found a new website called Facebook, which led her to Instagram. Just for kicks she searched up some names of people she and Sam went to school with and holy crap. It was like everyone had their own lives now. Some were married with kids, some were living their dream careers, and some were just acting random on the internet. Crazy to think that the people she would throw back shots with while dancing on top of people at clubs were all functioning adults.
I wonder if Sam has one…
No results found.
Dean?
No results found.
Maybe they're just not on Instagram. They don't seem like the type.
She went back to the Google page to search there. Big mistake.
Jess fell into a rabbit hole of articles about Sam and Dean. Dean holding a girl hostage, an armed bank robbery, freaking wanted by the FBI posters. Just to name a few.
"Hey, whatcha want for dinner?" Sam asked, sticking his head in her room. "Dean wants burgers again, of course, but we're trying to convince him to switch it up. Wanna throw your hat in the ring?"
Jess was too shocked to respond.
"What's up?" Sam asked, starting to walk in. He wasn't totally sure but he thought he saw Jess flinch.
"What exactly does your family do?" she asked quietly.
"Come on, you know that. I told you back at Stanford."
"No. You told me some nonchalant bullshit and passed it off like it was nothing."
Sam's mind started racing. What did she see? What did she hear? Dear Chuck, what does she know?
"What are you talking about?"
"This Sam!" Jess screamed. She threw her phone at him. "I'm talking about this!"
Sam looked at the phone and panicked. Jess started crying.
"No, no, no-"
"Why are there thousands upon thousands of articles about really shady shit you and Dean did!? Why were you legally pronounced dead by the FBI!? Are you two, like, psycho serial killers or something? Am I your next victim?"
Sam was taken aback by the question.
"What? Fuck Jess, no! How could you even ask me that? The fact that you would think I-"
Jess started crying even harder. Sam didn't know what to do. He had never seen her this upset before.
"Tell me everything," Jess pleaded.
"I… I can't." Sam said so quietly you could barely hear it.
"DAMN IT SAM!" Jess screamed. She jumped off the bed and started pacing back and forth.
"Jess… I promise you that no one here will ever hurt you," Sam said in a tone that he was hoping would calm her down.
"How can I be so sure?"
"How can you not trust me?"
"How did I die Sam? How did I come back to life? How did your mother who died when you were a freaking baby come back to life? Why is there some random dude that pops in and out claiming to be an angel? Why are you and Dean so cool about everything? What even is this dungeon that you keep me in?"
Jess was getting more and more upset as she rattled off more questions and continued pacing. Sam just stood there in the doorway watching her. He took a step towards her, only to watch her take a step back. Was she actually afraid of him?
"I promise I will tell you someday."
"That's not good enough."
"Jess-"
"Get out."
"Jess!"
"Get out Sam!" she said, running over to him and pushing him out the door. Sam wasn't expecting it and fell backwards out to the hallway. Jess slammed the door in his face.
"What the hell is going on up here?" Dean asked, running around the corner with Cas right behind him. "We can hear you two screaming at each other throughout the whole freaking bunker!"
"I wouldn't say the whole bunker-" Cas began to say. Dean put his hand up to stop him.
"I was exaggerating to make a point."
"Oh. Sorry."
"Well?" Dean asked, turning back to Sam.
"It's nothing. Really. I just keep digging myself deeper into this hole. No biggie."
Sam stood up and started to walk off but Dean grabbed him arm and stopped him.
"What happened Sammy?"
"You were right," Sam said, throwing his hands up. "I gotta fucking tell her man."
"Okay so go back in there."
"I can't Dean! I think… I think she's scared of me."
"I can see why. Compared to her small stature, you're a-"
This time Dean covered Cas' mouth with his hand.
"Not now Cas."
"Dean, she freaking looked us up on Google," Sam said, ignoring what Cas just said.
Dean was shocked.
"YOU CAN DO THAT!?"
"YES YOU CAN DO THAT AND SHE DID AND SHE FOUND ALL KINDS OF SHIT ON US!"
"Fuck," Dean whispered. "Anything good?"
Sam shot him his classic bitch look.
"What do you fucking think!?"
"Hey man I just wanna know what kind of shit we're talking about here."
Sam ran his hands over his face. He couldn't think straight.
"I don't even know where I would begin," he confessed.
"Just tell her what we tell everyone else," Dean suggested.
"Dean, she's not everyone else! She's-"
…a girl I'm still in love with.
"What if I talk to her?" Cas offered. "If she doesn't react well, I can wipe her memory."
"Cute Cas, but Sam should really be the one to talk to her," Dean told him.
Sam sighed.
"Dean's right. I need to be the one to do it."
The boys nodded in agreement.
"But just in case, you can still wipe her memory right?" Sam asked quickly.
"Dude! Stop abusing the angel!" Dean yelled at him.
"He offered!"
"Sam's correct. I did offer."
Dean hung his head in frustration. Sam smiled and tried his best to not laugh.
"The offer still stands of course," Cas continued. "If Jessica doesn't take the news well."
"Thanks Cas."
"We better go then," Dean said. "Unless we need to stand here and make sure your ass actually goes in there and tells her."
"I'll be okay."
Dean smiled at his brother. He put his arm around Cas' shoulder and started walking away with him.
"So Cas, have you ever Googled someone before?"
"What is a Google?"
Sam took a deep breath. He walked back down the hall to Jess' room and knocked on the door.
"Jess? Can I come back in?"
