On with the show!
A/N: Was no one going to tell me Dean and Jess have the same birthday or were yall just gonna leave me to figure that out on my own?
So of course I had to write a chapter about it. Happy birth-week!
2004
This morning Jess actually jumped out of bed looking forward to her day. She was finally in her twenties and so far, it wasn't that bad actually?
Jess gathered her things and went to the dorm bathroom to start getting ready for the day when her phone went off.
Good morning read the text.
Jess smirked. Fuck you she texted back teasing.
Oops not a good morning?
I feel so old!
Oh come on 20 isn't so bad.
I guess I just feel weird because 20 isn't that special. Like nothing happens when you turn 19 and 20. 18 you're an adult, 21 you can drinkā¦
I bet I can change your mind about that.
Jess smiled. She wondered what her boyfriend could possibly have planned for her tonight.
At this point, Jess figured she should try to shower before the other girls woke up and flooded the small dorm bathroom getting ready.
Jess finished and went back to her dorm room. She opened the door to find balloons and streamers everywhere, along with several of the girls from the dorm.
"Happy birthday beotch!" her roommate Rachel screamed.
"I was wondering why no one else was in the bathroom," Jess remarked.
"Get your ass dressed because we are going to celebrate all day! I'm thinking brunch and then shopping for something slutty to wear when you meet Sam later!"
Jess sighed. With Rachel, she did not have a choice.
After spending the whole day with her girlfriends, Jess went back to the dorms to get ready for her night with Sam. She got a new dress, much shorter than she usually wore, and redid her makeup.
"Happy birthday," Sam said when he answered the door and handed her a rose.
"Awww thank you!" Jess gushed, her face turning red. He kissed her and pulled her inside his room. Sam still lived in a dorm but it wasn't as strict as Jess'. For starters, he could have her over but he could never go over to hers. And Sam was an upperclassman so he had a solo room while Jess still had a roommate.
Right away she could tell something was off with him. Jess knew all about his brother Dean and she knew they shared the same birthday.
"Is this really all you want to do? Just stay in tonight?" Sam asked her.
"Yeah after last year I don't really feel like doing anything."
"What happened last year?"
"I never told you?" Jess asked truly surprised. Sam frowned and shook his head. "I was dating this guy before I met you. I caught him with another girl at the party he threw for me. We broke up the next morning, which happened to be my birthday."
"What a fucking douche."
"Yeah, well, he wasn't a good person anyway."
The two ate pizza for dinner and sat on Sam's couch and started a movie. About halfway through, Jess could tell something was on Sam's mind. She would try to snuggle close to him but he didn't seem to notice. She picked up his arm and put it around her so she could lie on his chest. She even ran her fingers up and down his chest like she knew he liked and nothing.
"Okay, what's up?" she asked, pausing the movie. Sam broke out of his trance.
"What?"
"Sam, it's my birthday and I feel like I'm celebrating by myself," Jess whined.
"I know, I'm sorry."
"Just call him."
"No way! Tonight's about you-"
"And your gift to me can be you calling your brother," Jess interrupted. Sam took a deep breath.
"Even if I did call him, he made it very clear the last time we talked that he was still pissed at me and I don't think he'd answer."
"Yeah but that was how long ago? He's gotta be over it now."
Sam scoffed.
"Never know unless you try right?"
Sam bit his lip and shook his head.
"Please?" Jess begged. "For me?"
Sure enough, Sam picked up his phone and dialed the last number he knew for Dean. Jess watched him pace back and forth behind the couch. She could tell from Sam's reaction that it just kept ringing.
"Hey Dean, it's me," Sam said quietly, almost whispering in the phone. "Obviously. Um... I don't know where you are today or if you'll even get this but... happy birthday man. Just... call me back mkay? Let me know you're alive another year?"
A very upset Sam hung up the phone, ran to the couch and immediately started kissing his girlfriend. Jess didn't question it and started to kiss him back. After a few minutes, Sam stopped suddenly.
"Can we finish the movie?" he asked. Jess smiled and nodded.
This time, Sam put his arm around her and she curled up in a ball on his chest again, running her fingers up and down his chest.
2017
Jess buried her head in her pillow to drown out the sound of her alarm clock. She did not want to get up today. For today would be her 22nd? 33rd? Oh god no, 22nd. Definitely 22nd.
Jess eventually got sick of hearing her alarm chirp so she turned it off and got out of bed. She gathered her things and went into her bathroom. The guys finally moved her into a room with it's own bathroom so she didn't have to run down the hallway half naked anymore.
When Jess came back out, there was a party hat and a note on her bed.
Come down to the library, Sam
Jess rolled her eyes, got dressed, and grabbed the party hat before making her way to the library. On the way there she ran into a very hungover Dean, who also had a party hat.
"I'm going to kill him," Dean said.
"Come on Dean! It's sweet!"
"It's satire is what it is. We don't do shit like this."
"What? Celebrate birthdays?"
"Nope."
"Not even when you were kids?"
Dean laughed at her question.
"Come on, you guys had to have celebrated at least one!"
Dean thought for a minute.
"I think I dragged him to a strip club when he turned 18?"
"Well I'm not going in that room without you," Jess said.
"Perfect! Works for me!" Dean said as he started to walk off. Jess grabbed his arm to stop him. Dean pouted as Jess helped him put on his party hat before putting on her own.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Sam announced when they walked in, "for the first time ever, we have two birthdays to celebrate!"
Jess laughed as she saw Sam, Mary, Cas, and even Jack standing around with party blowers and hats.
"It's lights out if you all start singing," Dean threatened.
"We're having pie for breakfast," Sam said.
"You are forgiven."
Everyone walked over to the table, leaving Sam and Jess alone.
"Happy birthday," Sam said quietly to her.
"Thank you. For all of this."
"Well I figured so much has changed in our lives the past few months that we could have one day of normalcy."
The two stood there awkwardly watching everyone else eat pie at one of the tables in the library.
"I never got to thank you for that night," Sam said, suddenly breaking the silence. Jess looked at him confused. "The last time we celebrated your birthday, I mean."
"It's not like I expected him to show up on our doorstep," Jess remarked. She stood up on her tiptoes and kissed Sam on the cheek.
"Come on," he said, taking her hand and leading her to join everyone else.
