Leann Nickerson- Charlie is very much alive! Thanks for the idea. This has to be one of my favorite one-shots I've written. It was soooo much fun! Hopefully you like it!
On with the show!
...Now
Sam sighed and closed the spellbook he was studying. Rowena had given him more homework and kept threatening pop quizzes. After that last stunt he pulled, Rowena decided he was ready for bigger things, and boy, did she deliver. Nothing at Stanford had prepared him for the ever-so-strict and scary Professor Rowena.
Dean giddily ran into the library and stood next to Sam's chair. "Okay, I know we're only like halfway through Game of Thrones but the new season of Stranger Things just came out. What do you think?"
Sam chuckled. Rarely did he get to witness Dean this excited. "I think you're a bigger nerd than you care to admit."
Dean glared at Sam. "Why you gotta say it like that?"
"I didn't say it like anything!" Sam said defensively. "I'm just glad you're finding interests other than drinking and sex."
They both jumped as the bunker door opened. "I'm home!" Jess announced as she let it slam behind her. She came into the library and threw her bag down on one of the chairs. "Whose yellow car is outside?"
Dean gasped excitedly. "She's here!" he said while running out of the library towards the bunker steps.
Jess turned to Sam and gave him a questioning look.
"Friend of ours," Sam explained. "It's been a while since she's visited and Dean is obviously way too excited."
"Friend or friend?" Jess teased.
"Trust me. It ain't like that." Sam laughed. "So where you been all day?"
Jess played with the strap on her bag. "Just... out?"
Sam raised an eyebrow at her. "What? You got, like, a secret boyfriend you're trying to hide from me?"
Jess didn't answer.
"Wait, are you..." Sam struggled to find the word. "...dating?"
"No!" Jess said suddenly. Too suddenly. "Of course not!"
Sam started to stutter and ramble. "Cause I'd be totally fine if you were! God knows I've had other-" Jess shot him a look. Sam stopped himself from finishing that statement. "I'm just saying, if you wanted to, I... am okay with it."
"Well," Jess said without emotion. "Not that I need your permission... but thank you."
The bunker door opened again, interrupting the moment, and Dean reappeared with none other than Charlie right behind him; both of them playfully bickering way too loudly.
"But GOT is starting to get really good!" Charlie whined.
"So is Stranger Things!"
"Oh, you just prefer the music."
"You are not wrong."
Charlie caught Sam sitting in the library and snuck up behind his chair, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. "Sup bitch!"
"Hey Charlie," Sam said, his mind racing and still processing his conversation with Jess.
"What? No hug back?" Charlie pouted, not sensing something was wrong.
Sam adjusted his attitude, smiled, stood up, and hugged Charlie back. He let her go and she noticed Jess standing behind him.
"OOOOO!" Charlie squealed. "And who is this lovely lady?"
"Hi," Jess said, giving a small wave, "I'm Jess."
"Charlie." She stuck her hand out. "Pleased to meet your acquaintance."
"Charlie's another hunter," Dean explained. "And a genius."
"And a nerd," Sam added, shooting a look towards Dean. Dean flipped him off.
Charlie put her hand on her chest and pretended to be offended. "Excuse you, that is Ms. Nerd to you!"
Jess giggled. She liked her. "How do you know the guys?"
"Eh, we go back," Charlie answered nonchalantly.
"A few years ago, she helped us hack a computer system to take down a corporation that was basically turning people into zombies," Sam said.
"Just another manic Monday," Charlie joked. "And then they broke my arm."
"Hey!" Dean said. "We apologized for that!"
"Of course you did sweetie," Charlie patted his shoulder. She turned back to Jess. "What about you?"
Jess struggled to think of how she should respond to that.
Luckily, Sam jumped in for her. "Jess and I went to college together."
Ouch.
"Stanford? No shit?" Charlie asked, surprised.
"Yeah," Jess added, "we used to date."
"No shit!?" Charlie asked, sounding even more surprised. "You dated Sam? What was that like?"
"Why?" Jess snapped, trying not to sound jealous. "Are you interested?"
All three of them started laughing.
"Charlie likes girls," Dean explained.
"Broseph!" Charlie screamed. "Not! Cool!"
"What!? You like girls! I can't say you like girls!?"
"I'm sorry," Sam said, ignoring them, "should I be offended that you don't believe that Jess would date me?"
"Um, if anything, I should be offended that you never told me you had a girlfriend at Stanford!"
OUCH.
"Really?" Jess asked. "He never told you about the girl who burned on the ceiling?"
"Maybe their mom?" Charlie suggested. She turned and glared at the boys with a deadpan facial expression. "Yall really do be bringing people back from the dead like it's nothing."
Dean snorted. "Worked for you, didn't it?"
"Oh my god!" Jess screamed. "You too?"
"Yeah," Charlie sighed, clearly not wanting to get into that right now. "But that's another conversation for another day."
Jess just smiled sympathetically at her. Sam and Dean exchanged a look. They knew Charlie was still sensitive about the whole dying in a bathtub and them using Rowena's spell to bring her back to life. Remember that big stunt Sam pulled? Yeah. It was that.
"So Jess, what's your Hogwarts house?" Charlie asked, desperate to change the subject.
"What's a Hog-"
"Slytherin!" Sam coughed out. Charlie rolled her eyes at him.
"What he said."
"Really?" Charlie asked, sounding surprised. She looked Jess up and down. "Doesn't matter. I got a feeling we will be best friends!"
Jess laughed softly as Charlie threw her arm around Jess' shoulder and started to lead her out of the room.
"Bags are in my trunk!" Charlie yelled over her shoulder. "We'll be in my room!"
"That could be dangerous," Dean said to Sam as soon as the girls were out of earshot.
