Hi all! I thought I would try something new. Here are some short scenes that I thought would be cute but not necessarily long enough to be one-shots. May or may not be inspired by real life events lol. Let me know what you think!
On with the show!
Sam drummed his fingers on his desk in front of him as he aimlessly stared at the textbook in front of him. The reading for this week was way more than previous weeks and Sam was struggling to finish these last few pages before class in the morning.
Sam pulled his cell phone out of his hoodie pocket and looked at the time. 10:52. Jess had a night class and she usually texted him to let him know she had made it back to her dorm safely.
As if on cue, her name popped up as an incoming call.
"Hey you," he said cheerfully into the phone.
"Hey Sam," she said. Her voice was shaky and it sounded like she was breathing heavy into the receiver.
Sam immediately started to brace for the worst. "What happened?"
"Nothing!" Jess said. "Nothing. Just thought I saw something. Can you stay on the line with me a little bit?"
Something. Sam was already tying his shoes. "What building are you at? I'll come meet you."
Jess sighed. "By the time you get to me, I'll already be at my dorm. I'm fine. Really."
"You sure?" he asked, grabbing his dorm key.
"Yes."
"Fine." He let the door close behind him and walked down the hall. "How was class?"
"Boring as usual. It's a miracle I didn't fall asleep."
Sam chuckled. "That's what you get for signing up for a class this late."
"It was the only one still open!" Jess playfully argued back. Clearly this was a conversation Sam teased her about often.
Sam skipped down the steps to the floor level of his dorm building. "Hey, just a few more weeks and we'll be done, right?"
Jess groaned. "Ugh. Summer cannot come fast en-"
Jess stopped. "Hello?" Sam heard her call out on the phone. Sam booked it out of the dorm building. He didn't know where Jess was but he could safely bet that he'd run into her if he started making his way towards her class.
"Jess?"
"Sorry," she said back into the phone. "I think I'm seeing things."
"It's fine," Sam said, rounding a corner, "Just making sure you're okay."
Jess continued talking about her class on the phone. Sam ran up a flight of steps and saw her walking toward him. He ducked around behind a tree to hide.
"I saw that."
"What are you talking about?"
Jess giggled. "Sam..."
"What?" Sam played back. "I'm in bed."
Jess sped up and snuck up on the other side of the tree. Sam could hear the pebbles crunching under her boots. He smiled knowing he had been caught when Jess peered her head around.
"Busted?"
Jess rolled her eyes and hung up the phone. "I told you not to meet me."
Sam shrugged and took his hoodie off and threw it over her shoulders, walking her back to her dorm.
Jess had her eyes closed but she wasn't sleeping. Sam kept tossing and turning trying to get comfortable in bed. His breathing was heavy like he was deep in thought about something. He got up to go to the bathroom and Jess thought maybe he just wasn't feeling well. When he exited the bathroom, he went to the main room of the apartment. Jess was worried and got up to go check on him. She found him sitting in the dark on their couch with his head in his hands, rubbing them over his face.
"Sam?" she asked, flipping on a lamp. Sam didn't flinch. "Are you okay?"
Sam took a deep breath and removed his hands from his face. "I'm fine."
Jess didn't buy it. "You definitely aren't." She sat on the couch next to him. "What's going on?"
Sam's jaw wobbled and his eyes filled with water. "Shit," he muttered, covering his face again.
Jess moved closer to him. "Sam, please tell me."
Sam sighed. "I got a text from an old friend earlier today. My dad's been in an accident." A hunting accident.
"Is he okay?"
"He'll live. But he's pretty roughed up. He and Dean are with him now."
Jess reached for Sam's hand. "I'm sorry. I'll go with you to visit him if you want."
Sam sniffled and shook his head. "No. That would do more harm than good."
Jess took a deep breath and sighed. "Sam, I know things didn't go well between you two, but he's still your dad."
"I know," Sam admitted, "and I hate that. I hate him so much but when I got that text..." Sam started tearing up even more. He tried to hide again but Jess was right there, almost preventing him.
Jess wiped his tears away with her thumb. "At least you know he'll be okay," she whispered.
Sam nodded in response and let himself rest his head on her shoulder. Jess allowed him and ran her fingers through his hair as he calmed himself.
Sam and Jess decided to stay in tonight. Sam brought home takeout and a movie when he got off work and Jess set up the apartment with candles and baked cookies for dessert.
Currently, the two were snuggled cozily under a blanket on the couch watching the movie. Jess was practically lying on top of Sam as he leaned against the wall with his legs across the couch.
Jess paused the movie. "Be right back."
"Where you going?"
Jess kicked the blanket off and stood up. "Bathroom."
"Nooo," Sam whined. He grabbed her waist and tried to pull her back down. "Come back. It's cold."
"Sam, if I sit back down, I will pee all over you."
"Kinky," Sam joked. Jess ignored him as she shuffled over to the bathroom, closing the door behind her.
While he waited, Sam also got off the couch and helped himself to another cookie. He just sat back down when he heard a hilarious squeak come from the bathroom.
"Jess? Are you good?"
"There's a spider!" Jess screamed back.
"Kill it!" Sam yelled from the couch.
"It's crawling towards me and I'm indefensive!"
"Throw something at it!"
Sam heard a thud, followed by another squeak. He couldn't help himself and immediately started laughing.
"You won't be laughing when this thing eats me!"
"If you didn't leave me, you wouldn't be in this situation right now."
Sam heard the toilet flush, followed by the sink and Jess suddenly running back to the couch.
"Kill it," she said, pointing back over towards the bathroom.
Sam raised an eyebrow at her. "Oh no, you can kill it."
"Sam! You're the boy! It's your job to get rid of the spider!"
"I'm not the one that was in there when it showed up!"
"I could have died! While peeing!" Jess said dramatically. "Is that really what you want?"
Sam playfully glared at her. She pouted her lip and batted her eyes. "Please?"
"Fine," Sam surrendered, standing back up. "But you owe me."
At least I know she's not a hunter...
