Kathy and Long Live BRUCAS: We'll see about that... muwahahaha

On with the show!

Sam screamed and cried into his pillow.

He was stupid. He was so stupid. Dean tried to warn him and he didn't listen and look at what happened.

Stupid.

"Sammy?" Mary called, gently knocking on his closed door.

"Go away!"

Mary opened the door and came in anyway. Her heart broke seeing him curled in a ball in his bed and hearing him crying. She sat on the edge of his bed and pulled some of his covers away to see his face.

"They ruined my birthday," Sam sobbed.

Mary bit her tongue to stop herself from saying what she so badly wanted to say. She wanted to go off on Kate. She wanted to go off on John. Normally, she wouldn't care about what happened. But the boys saw it. And that was not okay.

Mary faked a smile to try to cheer Sam up. "Come on, it wasn't all bad, right? You had fun with your friends and you got cool new toys!"

Sam continued to cry. Mary climbed into bed next to him. Sam immediately rolled over into her side as she stroked his hair and started singing to him.

Dean ran down the street. He had to get away from there. He knew. He freaking knew something was going to go wrong. And he hated that he was right.

Dean ran faster. And faster. Eventually, he ended up a couple of streets away on the other side of the neighborhood, standing on the porch of his friend, Tommy's, house.

"Dean?" Tommy asked, answering the door. "What are you doing here? Isn't it Sam's birthday?"

Dean sniffled and scratched his nose. "Can you go out?"

Tommy turned around. "Mom!" he called back inside the house. "I'm going out with Dean!"

Dean was already halfway down the driveway by the time Tommy closed the door. Tommy walked quickly to catch up with him.

"So what happened?" Tommy asked.

"I don't want to fucking talk about it," Dean snapped.

"Dean, come on-"

"Do you remember where that barn is? I need to break something."

Tommy sighed.

The tires on John's truck squealed as he pulled up outside Kate's house.

"Kate!" he yelled. "KATE!"

"Will you keep it down?" Kate yelled back as she threw open the front door. "Adam just fell asleep!"

"What the fuck is wrong with you!?" John continued screaming. "Coming onto me at my son's birthday party at my ex-wife's house? Do you get how inappropriate that is?"

"That's inappropriate? What about all the signals you've been sending me?"

John was speechless. "What fucking signals?"

"You staying the night here all the time, you introducing me to Dean and Sam, you inviting us today-"

"I didn't invite you!" John interrupted. "And I introduced you to the boys so they could know you and Adam who, by the way, is the only reason I stay over!"

Kate glared at him. John refused to let her break him down.

"We are not together Kate. You need to stop acting like we are. You were a one-night stand," he growled. "That is all you will ever be."

"Go," Kate immediately reacted, getting in his face and pointing to his car on the street. "Don't be surprised if you never see Adam again."

John huffed and went back to his truck, his truck squealing again as he drove out of the culdesac.

Mary finally finished cleaning up the remains of the party from that day, determined to remove any and all evidence of the day. Usually, birthday decorations stay up weeks after Dean's or Sam's birthday. But not this year. This year was just too depressing already.

The phone rang. Mary didn't want to answer it in fear that it was John. She could not face him right now so she let the machine get it.

"Good evening. This is Officer Brown. I have a Dean Winchester sitting in my office right now and he gave me your number."

Mary had never answered the phone so quickly before.

Sam woke up in the backseat of his mom's car. He vaguely remembered her walking him out to the car while he was still asleep but he wasn't sure.

"Mommy?"

"Yes, baby?"

"Where are we going?" Sam asked while yawning.

Mary sighed. "We are going to go pick up your brother."

Sam was satisfied with her answer and looked out his window. Sam's current favorite game in the car was pretending there was a giant person jumping over the cars and trees they drove by.

Eventually, Mary pulled up outside the police station and parked the car.

Sam's eyes grew big. "IS DEAN IN JAIL?" he screamed.

"No!" Mary said, turning around in her seat quickly to face him. "No, he's not in jail. But he is in a lot of trouble."

"What did he do?"

"That's what we're going to go find out."

They both got out of the car. Mary grabbed Sam's hand and they went inside the police station. Sam sat in a chair while Mary checked in with the officer at the counter. A few minutes later, another officer came out to the lobby with Dean, who looked extremely embarrassed. Sam ran over and gave Dean a hug, hoping it would make his big brother feel better.

"Get off," Dean said, immediately shoving Sam away. His voice was shaky and Sam knew Dean was trying not to cry.

"Evening Miss," the officer said. He turned and looked at Sam. "Sir."

Sam giggled at the officer calling him sir. The officer winked at him and then turned back to Mary.

"What happened?" Mary snapped, looking directly at Dean.

"Caught him and his friend throwing rocks at some barn windows."

"What? Dean!"

Dean shifted uncomfortably to avoid looking at her.

The officer continued talking. "Luckily the barn is abandoned so no one is pressing charges. Just a major safety issue. We brought them both in and talked to them and explained how this could have ended very differently. The other one was picked up about half an hour ago."

The officer released Dean and Mary signed some paperwork. She thanked him, then grabbed Dean's arm and dragged him out to the car.

"Talk."

"I don't wanna."

Mary huffed. "What the hell is wrong with you Dean? You AND Tommy both know better than this!"

"I know!" Dean screamed.

"So I let you go out with Tommy and you both just decide to break into places?"

"It wasn't like that!"

"How long has this been going on?"

"This was only the second time! I swear!"

Sam fidgeted in the backseat, feeling uncomfortable listening to their fight. He tried to picture the man outside his window again climbing on top of the police car parked next to them.

"Just wait until I tell your father about this."

That threat broke Dean. "No! Don't!" he cried.

"I have to tell him, Dean!"

Dean cried harder. He tugged on Mary's arm. "I'm sorry! Please!"

"You should have thought about that before."

Dean squeaked and choked on a sob. He was scared shitless when that cop pulled up to him and Tommy. He was convinced he and Tommy were done for. That they were going to go to juvie and that would be the end of them. When the officer said he was going to let them go on a warning, Dean was even more scared because he knew his parents wouldn't be so quick to let him off. He had been getting away with a lot lately, but this?

Mary started the car and drove out of the parking lot. Dean continued crying in the front seat. He punched the dash, startling Sam. Sam peered his head around the seat. He watched as Dean curled up in the front seat. Sam remembered when he hurt his chin and Dean did his best to immediately make him feel better. In his small attempt to do the same, Sam put his hand on Dean's shoulder. Dean didn't seem to notice.

It was really just the worst day.

Earlier...

"Dean, go find your father," Mary said. "We need to do the cake so we can start sending folks home."

Dean went inside the house, leaving the chaos that is a ten-year-olds birthday party in the backyard.

"Dad?" Dean called. "Mom said it's time for cake!"

Nothing. Dean's thought was maybe his dad's in the bathroom.

"Dean!" he heard Sam call from the kitchen. Dean walked over and found Sam rummaging through the pantry.

"What?"

"Mom told me to come pick my candles but I can't find them!"

"They're in the hall closet," Dean explained. Sam closed the pantry and they both went down the hallway off the kitchen. Dean opened the door and picked the box of candles off the top shelf and handed it to Sam.

They both heard noises and talking coming from the living room, followed by a scream and laughter.

Naturally, their curiosity got the best of them and they both went to go look. They both regretted that when they saw their father lying on his back on the couch with Kate sitting on top of him.
