Taiyang hit a tree repeatedly; his excuse was training but actually, he was draining all of his frustration against the bark. It wasn't helping in the slightest.
She was skilled, strong, Beacon should have been a safe place.
The people called it "The Fall of Beacon", the horrible day where the Vytal festival turned into a slaughter. The place where he met his team ended up being reduced to a pile of debris.
The father felt overwhelmed by his emotions and sat on the ground, that day his daughter lost a part of herself not just physically. The brave and thrill-seeker girl was now an empty shell; it was hard for him to look at her and meeting those empty eyes.
He couldn't protect his daughter just like he failed to protect Summer.
What can he do to return happiness to Yang?
Ruby was gone, she just left a note to say that she was going to save the world and don't leave her friends' sacrifice to be worthless.
She was so young and already had the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Taiyang could take care of his older daughter thanks to Qrow, he told him that he would keep an eye on Ruby and he trusted his friend's word.
"Hello?"
Taiyang turned his head towards the voice, it belonged to a girl he had not seen before.
No, he had seen her in photos. She was one of the girls that were on her daughters' team, they used to talk about them frequently. What was her name?
Blake, the cat faunus.
It sounded a little...offensive in his mind but was what his brain associated the name with.
Taiyang stood up acknowledging that he probably had stared more than he should.
"Hello," he drew closer to the girl. "I am Taiyang Xiao Long, Yang's father."
Blake analyzed him for a brief moment before speaking. "Nice to meet you, my name is Blake Belladonna and I am Yang's teammate."
Taiyang noticed how the faunus averted her gaze, she either was shy or ashamed; but why?
"I guess that you're here to check on her, aren't you?"
Blake nodded. "Is she here?"
Lying was unnecessary, maybe she could cheer Yang up.
"She is," Taiyang sighed involuntarily. "She's in her room, upstairs."
The faunus was about to head there when Taiyang's hand stopped her. For a moment, she thought that he was going to refuse but that was not the case.
"How did you find us?"
Blake smirked, the image of a clearly excited Ruby appeared in his mind, but then, it was replaced by the image of her leader being serious. "Ruby told me, she was worried about Yang."
Tai let her go and, as the faunus disappeared from his sight, he could only think about the precious bond that his daughters had. Even with so many concerns, she was worried about her sister.
Tai felt the well-known sensation of being watched and looked around, all he could find was a raven on a branch.
After a minute of gathering strength, Blake knocked on Yang's door.
For a second, she feared her reaction but as she told Adam, she wasn't going to run away again.
"It's open."
The monotony in Yang's voice made Blake's heart skipped a beat. She felt guilty for leaving her wake up alone after such a traumatic event but that was why she was there, to fix it.
Blake opened the door slowly, the surprise in Yang's face was instantaneous.
"Blake?!"
"Yang."
The faunus almost sprinted to the bed, she quickly enveloped the blonde with her arms. "I'm here, Yang, I'm here."
They kept embracing each other for minutes, they separated and relaxed enough to talk.
"I'm sorry, Yang. I-I..."
Yang tried to touch Blake's face with her right hand but remembered that it wasn't there anymore. It was so strange, feeling the fingers touching her.
She couldn't bear the sad face that Blake had, nothing will change for her missing limb so better invest that time in her kitty.
She tried again but this time with her left hand. "Don't cry now, please. You don't need to apologize, I know that you did it for a good reason."
Blake put away Yang's hand from her cheek and stood up, she walked backward and crossed her arms.
"There was no reason!" she exclaimed, feeling her guilt getting stronger. "I was scared and ashamed for not protecting you, I blocked everything and tried to escape from reality, I was about to go with my parents but Ruby found me."
Yang had an idea of what happened. "She told you to come."
Blake silently nodded, she couldn't look at her lilac eyes.
"It's okay, now you're here."
Blake embraced Yang again, she won't let her side ever again. The complete silence and just the warmth of each other were enough to make her feel peace...which was broken by Yang.
"So, when will I know your parents?"
"You're terrible."
"I know, that is what you like of me."
Hours turned into days and days turned into weeks; before the faunus noticed it, she was another resident of the house. She didn't care helping out with chores as long she could be there for Yang.
Currently, the cat faunus was sat on a chair outside the house, she was just there to feel the soothing breeze. The smell was very different from that of Menagerie, being surrounded by trees and not so close to the sea made the difference.
"Enjoying the breeze? At this time of the day is relaxing."
Blake turned her head to Taiyang. That man had shown that he was kind and a good father, she shouldn't be surprised for the disposition to help everyone that Ruby and Yang had.
"Good morning, M-" she remembered that he asked her to call him by his name. "Tai."
"I see that Summer's old nightgown fits you well, it was a miracle that I forgot to pack it."
It was a simple white and long nightgown but felt way more comfortable than it seemed.
"I can't really thank you enough for receiving me in your home."
"Faunus or not, you are Yang's friend. The one who should be thanked is you."
"Me?"
"Yes, you. Since your arrival, Yang has been more energic than ever, I didn't know what to do to cheer her up."
Blake lowered her gaze, the image of Yang's amputation was fresh in his mind.
"You're more than just a friend, aren't you?"
She felt the blood rushing to her cheeks, Tai smirked but not for finding it funny.
"Yang never told me about a girlfriend."
"We're not. We haven't gone so far."
Blake wasn't sure why they hadn't tried to take a step forward and ask the other out. They both had trust issues, she because of Adam and Yang because of her mother.
Blake completely trusted and thought that she knew Adam, he was a mentor and her only friend besides Ilia.
Ilia, it's been years since their last meet. She had been an awful friend.
And she left her alone just like her mother.
"I don't know if I even deserve her, I left her alone and-"
Taiyang placed his hand on her shoulder. "If you really want to know just go and talk to her, it will lighten the weight on your shoulders."
Blake nodded, she had the courage to do it.
"Good morning~"
The faunus froze in place, all of her courage vanished with Yang's voice. Waiting a little longer would make no harm.
"Just talking, little dragon. I think that your friend has something to say."
Taiyang winked and quickly got into the house.
Yang walked toward Blake. "What was that?"
Blake turned her face to hide his blush.
Yang was wearing a yellow tank top and black mini-shorts. She used to wear the same thing in Beacon but with everything that the faunus had in mind at the moment, it had a strong effect.
Alright, it was now or never, what had to happen would happen.
"Do you remember our talk after the party? When we turned Torchwick in."
Yang's cheeks acquired a cute pink; she remembered clearly. "I do."
The blonde drew circles with her sandals while Blake played with her fingers. Yang had no idea what to say. Did she regret their kiss?
The intrigue was killing Yang for a few minutes, then, Blake stood up and held Yang's hand.
"I want more than just being your friend."
With that statement, the feelings that they had been suppressing exploded. Without thinking too much, they united their lips.
On a near branch, a raven flapped her wings before taking off.
