Her broken-hearted Veela

Chapter IV: Breakfast.

"My love is selfish. I cannot breathe without you."

He couldn't sleep.

The Veela within Draco knew Hermione was there, in the Gryffindor tower, while he was alone in his room, down in the Slytherin dungeons, away from her. It was paradoxical, she was so close and yet so far away from him. Not being able to have her by his side, while he could still sense her so closely to him, drove him insane. – Just like his want for her.

This maddening desire; it was ever so cruel. It was so hot it burnt; it scorched him to his core in the most grandiose manner. Draco's Veela lost itself in it, being consumed by the smokes of lust; whilst Draco himself fought against it, though with time, as the passion and heat increased, he could fight it less and less. He was more and more tempted to give in to his Veela's hunger, and ravage Hermione.

Oh, how he'd make her his, how he'd devour her.

He had this fantasy pictured in his head, where she lay naked in the silky sheets of his bed, below him, her cheeks flushed and her wild curls spread all over the pillow. She was moving in harmony with him, rocking back and forth; her long, creamy legs wrapped around his waist, while moaning his name out loud. Draco imagined her amber gaze locked on him as he bit the curve of her neck and released everything he had inside of her, marking her as his, and his only. And so, his mind wandered to this sensuous place; while his hand slowly, tentatively travelled down his pelvis. Delightful tingles rushed through him as his hand reached its destination. He grabbed his shaft and began to stroke, lazily, knowing that he wasn't in a hurry, and accepting that he wanted to enjoy this fantasy. Automatically, his eyes closed at the pleasure, as his mouth softly opened and let out a quiet, raspy groan.

"Hermione…"

That witch was his honeyed perdition and his damned salvation, only she was at fault for the sweet delirium that wavered over him. She was the reason that his body tensed up and trembled. She made his mind go cloudy and his vision foggy, as his orgasm conquered him.

After pleasuring himself, the blonde decided to take a shower immediately. His mind was racing, and he needed to calm down. He needed to think things through, and the only way for him to achieve that was once he'd regained his composure. For the thousandth time in the last couple of weeks, he sighed. This had been happening all too frequently, and his nerves were getting wrecked every time that he had such a freak-out.

Once Draco found himself under the warm, soothing water droplets and the rising vapour that hugged his body, he took a deep breath in, held it for a couple of seconds, and breathed out. He counted to a hundred, in hopes that that would help him relax and make his mind go blank, if only for a minute.

Water was flowing over his shoulders and down his back, releasing his tense state. His muscles loosened up ever so slightly, and the tight knot he felt in his throat eased off, as well. His jaw hung loose, and he wasn't frowning any longer. – Playful water droplets found their way into his ears, deafening him. He welcomed that sensation, as everything he heard quieted down. Sounds became muffled, distant.

Finally, all Draco heard was silence.

Malfoy enjoyed the peace and quiet for a little longer before he, reluctantly, got out of the shower and into his dormitory, and started to think again. He knew there was little point in trying to fight off his Veela blood, so analysing what had just happened –the fact that he had just masturbated over Granger and his orgasm having been one of the best ones he'd ever had–, wasn't going to help him in any way. Because of that, instead of fighting against it, he wished for him to accept it, and even embrace it as his new identity.

It was much easier said than done, Draco reckoned. Magic had decided to force him into loving Granger, and that he did, whole-heartedly. It was entirely against his will, but he loved her. He loved her as much as he adored looking at the stars and losing himself in the darkness of the night sky; he loved her as much as he cherished feeling the pouring rain on his skin, washing all of his worries and sorrows away. – It hadn't been his choice, he'd had no say. He considered it to be unfair, it pained him, as he'd fought against it for the longest time, yet to no avail: Draco couldn't deny he loved her with an intensity he'd never believed was possible. He'd kill and die for her, without any doubt in his mind.

Hermione Granger was his mate. Draco Malfoy was her Veela.

Draco took a long look at his reflection in the mirror, before he left his room and headed to the Great Hall. He pondered about Magic having randomly chosen her for him, but he found it hard to believe, since, right after Granger, Draco was incredibly intelligent. He was diligent, he didn't like it when things were left unfinished, or when his Slytherin fellows half-heartedly worked on their assignments. He was ambitious, always wanting to be the best, and he worked very hard for it, too. The blonde had always been very meticulous whenever there was a task assigned; his pieces of parchment were consistently well-written and very well-graded. – This was a side to him that almost nobody knew about: Malfoy, just like Granger, liked to read and constantly learn about new, fascinating things. The difference between them was that, whilst she would pretty much be a show-off, even if that wasn't her intention; he would never be eager to show, lest people couldn't see right through him.

Hermione and Draco weren't that different, after all. The young man was astonished at that revelation, he hadn't thought about them being similar in so many ways before.

It seemed that letting his Veela side completely take over him would make loving the brunette so much more painless for him. Actually, it would be quite the contrary: If Draco let his Veela side overrule him, loving Hermione would become enchanting.

'I can't fight it anymore. I'll be hers… And she'll be mine.'

And as if the Veela within him had heard his possessive thoughts, his inner creature took control.

As it was usual during the first week after the holidays, Hermione was heading towards the Great Hall by herself, seeing that Harry and Ron were going to be late for breakfast. The boys had this unhealthy habit of messing with their sleeping schedules whenever they weren't at Hogwarts, and when they came back, they found that getting up in the morning was torture for them. Up until third year, Hermione had tried to drag them along with her, but she reckoned it was pointless after that. – She rolled her eyes and shook her head, sighing. Those two were never going to learn.

Going down the stairs, she saw a figure entering the Great Hall. How odd. She usually was the first student to arrive, mainly because she enjoyed having the Great Hall to herself four half an hour, it was like a ritual. She read the Prophet and sipped at her morning coffee, in peace and quiet. The Gryffindor Princess couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed: This morning was going to be different.

Hermione stepped into the large dining room, looked up and, for a fraction of a second, she froze in place. Out of all people, Malfoy was there, it just had to be him. He stood there, in the middle of the hall, and stared at her. She could've sworn she saw him lick his lips, that bloody git was probably plotting something to bother her. She gritted her teeth and huffed in annoyance. Great. Off to a marvellous start in the morning.

'All right, Hermione, let's not get upset.' She thought, taking a deep breath, 'Don't let him annoy you. Go sit down, pour yourself some coffee and read.'

She headed towards Gryffindor's table, glaring at him defiantly. Her hazel irises were locked on his silvery eyes, and she noticed his pupils were extremely dilated. It actually unsettled her a bit. The way the Slytherin was looking at her had something somewhat predatory in itself, and it gave her goose bumps. She broke eye contact and picked up her pace.

As Hermione went past him, she left a trace of her delicious fragrance behind, and Draco took her scent in, closing his eyes. It embraced him wholly, yet it made him feel as light as a feather. That sinful smell captivated him, it filled him with want and desire. Images from earlier that morning came to his mind, as he pictured her laying in his arms again, her sweet voice desperately moaning his name. Unconsciously, he let out a purr.

"Good morning, Granger." He smirked at her, his voice sounding more seductive than he had intended. "It's so early and you already seem to be in a rush. Why is that?"

"Malfoy." She nonchalantly greeted him, not turning back to look at him, "Not that it is any of your business, but if you must know, I'm in a rush to get my coffee and read The Prophet. Preferably alone."

"Well, tough luck. I'm not going anywhere."

Rolling her eyes, she went over to her spot and sat down. Even though she wanted to ignore his presence, Hermione raised a suspicious eyebrow at him, as she poured herself her morning drink. It really was quite early, so what was Malfoy doing in the Hall?

"Malfoy, why are you here?" The Gryffindor demanded to know. "Usually, there's no one here this early, besides myself."

Good to know.

Draco's smirk grew wider. He walked towards the opposite site of where she was seated, so that there was only the table between them.

"Well, breakfast, obviously." He whispered, darkly. The blonde then leaned over and swiftly put his index finger under her chin, causing her to face him, "I'm hungry."

And he was hungry, indeed. Draco took a peek at her kissable lips and felt starved. Starved for her kisses, for her touch. He felt her fresh breath on his mouth and chin, and he was ready to devour her. But Draco resisted the need to kiss her, not because he was against it, in fact, there was nothing more that he wished to do; but because he wanted to seduce her: With surprise came seduction, and having dared to make such a bold move like that had surely stunned her. – The Slytherin was absolutely certain that the clever Gryffindor would be thinking about this all day long.

He pulled away with an innocent smile, and stole a chocolate chip muffin from Gryffindor's table.

"Malfoy!" Hermione's face was getting red with anger and embarrassment. Her cheeks had the most lovable blush. "What in the actual hell was that?"

"I told you, Granger." He chuckled, feeling amused, "Breakfast."

"You're unbelievable, Malfoy!" She roared, "You're such a…!"

"…foul, loathsome, evil, little cockroach? Oof, that one's getting a tad old, wouldn't you agree?" He gave her a playful smirk, "Anyway, as I said, I'm hungry. Thanks for the muffin, Hermione. Cheers."

Taking a bite out of the sweet bun and turning on his heels, Draco went over to Slytherin's table, where he had her in sight. He poured himself a cup of tea –Earl Grey–, and happily ate his pastry. Meanwhile, Hermione sat there feeling dumbfounded and outraged at the audacity of that prick, but as she had told herself before, she wouldn't let him upset her, she wouldn't let him ruin her morning ritual. – So, on with it! Angrily, she picked up The Prophet, her hand hitting on the side of her cup and spilling her coffee everywhere, including part of her jumper and her skirt. Bloody hell! Now she had to go back to her room and change!

Her morning was ruined! Malfoy had managed to ruin her morning!

From his table, the snake laughed out loud.

"SHUT IT, MALFOY!"

But Draco laughed even louder. She was so adorable when she was mad.
