Chapter 5
Making Adjustments
Yang was looking around in concern as Qrow and the Mason twins arrived. Z had just taken another blood sample and was processing the results. Now the Talonflame was picking at her feathers to hide her nervousness.
After double-checking the results, Z turned to the group and said "I've got good news and bad news, which do you want first?"
"Give us the good news" Qrow requested.
Z smiled and said "Yang's blood sample shows about 0.03 percent more of her human DNA"
"Meaning?" Qrow pressed.
Charlie cut in with "it means that she is slowly moving towards the 10 percent threshold that shifters in our world have when transformed, so when she reaches it, she'll be able to change back on her own"
Qrow gave smile, but it faded soon after as he asked "what's the bad news?"
"The bad news is that…based on this rate, she'll have to wait about a month and a half until then…" Z confessed.
Yang flapped her wings rapidly, still not managing to fly yet.
Kelly sighed and said, "could be worse, the last time we had a case like this, it took almost a year for people to be able to change back."
Qrow began to ask how this had come up before, only to stop himself and say "I don't wanna know, but I'll spend some time as Yang with a bird, Raven got stuck for a week or two, and we had to learn to fly together"
Yang looked at her uncle, her eyes, which were still red like Raven's, were filled with gratitude.
Kelly gave a warry look as she said "not a bad idea…just be aware that experienced Talonflames can fly over 200 miles per hour…and up to 310 in a dive"
Qrow gave a stunned look, one that was only surpassed by Yang's stunned look.
Yang hopped onto her uncle's outstretched arm, the two went outside, and after Qrow carried her to the grass outside Beacon's courtyard, he sat her down. Luckily the courtyard was abandoned since school wouldn't resume for another week and a half. People wouldn't start moving back in for a day or two.
"Alright, im gonna change, watch my wings and how I move" Qrow explained.
After shifting into his bird form, Qrow slowly flapped his wings, Yang following along with him. Soon enough Qrow jumped up and took off, Yang following suit. She admittedly fell to the ground after trying to turn in the air, but after about twenty minutes of trial and error, she was flying with no issues
As she cruised around Beacon tower, with Qrow following her closely, Yang thought to herself "as terrible as it is to be stuck like this…flying is fun"
Soon enough Yang focused more energy into her wings, before she knew it she was out over the ocean, Beacon's tower was just barely visible on the horizon. After she realized this she immediately came back to Beacon where Qrow was sitting on a bench back in human from.
She landed next to him, Qrow smiled and asked "enjoying the sky? I had a feeling you would..want something to eat?"
Yang instantly felt her stomach rumble, and Qrow heard it too. He held out an apple and allowed her to nibble on it until she had eaten the entire thing, core included.
"Don't worry firecracker, I'll take care of you, keep ya company down here, and up here" Qrow assured her.
Watts was working at his lab in Salem's castle, placing a lump of titanium into a press, powered by fire dust. He activated it, and crushed it into a piece of metal around half the size it was.
He then placed it on a scanner, and much to his dismay, it was only around a fifth of the strength he needed to match the sample of ultanium Damien gave him.
"Not quite there yet doctor?" Damien asked as he came in.
Watts noticed there was no derision in his voice and replied "not yet, but I am far from out of ideas"
The shadow collective's general smiled and said "good, that's what I want to hear, i have something to show you"
Watts turned around, and Damien pulled out his phone, which resembled a standard smartphone, at least until it projected a hologram of a large tube of the purple dust being lowered into a slot, a glass shield lowed around it as the energy began to flow throughout the surrounding room..
"This new reactor has more energy than even I expected, your gravity dust has finally allowed my project to get off the ground!" Damien admitted.
Watts gave a satisfied grinn and said happy to help, how long till it's operational?"
"It's operational now, Salem has decided to wipe a third of Sanus off the map, specifically Vale" Damien stated proudly.
The doctor was slightly surprised, but nodded and stated "I cannot wait to see the show!"
As the clouds above Forever fall diappated, Zander took a deep breath and deactivated his eyes. He had gained a large amount of skill with his new abilities, and had passed all the tests on his light eye, the gale eye was proving a bit more difficult to master though, but Malcolm knew how to teach his son, and it was only a matter of time before he had finished learning it's powers as well
At the top of the hour exactly, his father arrived with a grim look on his face.
"What is it dad?" Zander questioned, noting his uncharacteristically dark demeanor.
"Damien Galashnikov is on Remnant, and he is about to make a move" Malcolm admitted.
Zander gave a concerned look and said "knowing him, it's gonna be very blunt and very strong"
Malcolm nodded and said "I agree, which is why I have a special task for you"
"And what is that?" Zander asked without hesitation.
Malcolm gave a small smile and explained "I will explain things to everyone at Beacon, and while I am doing that, Im sending you to earth 161 to recruit some extra firepower"
Zander realized what he was implying and said "given Damien's involvement, they'll be more than happy to help"
Back in Z's lab, he was still looking over the map of the multiverse, running calculations on where Ruby and Blake could have ended up. He was winding back his data to when the dimensional hole opened. While he couldn't see the hole on his map, he could find what universes were closest. The multiverse was not unlike a massive solar system, just with much more erratic orbits around the prime earths. If one of the offshoots of the prime 1000 were closer to remnant at the time, then it may be worth looking into.
His attention was pulled by an alarm, causing him to zoom in on the universe he was currently in, specifically around one hundred thousand miles from the surface of Remnant's shattered moon, a dimensional hole was opening, one so large that it would have eclipsed the moon if it was on the other side of it.
Z zoomed in on the display, as he could visibly observe anywhere via a dimensional window, thanks to his uplink with the monitoring device in Malcolm's base beyond the multiverse. As soon as he saw the image, his heart nearly jumped out of his chest.
His mouth was agape as he said "Arceus help us…"
Author's note-Oh my...Damien has begun to make his move..
1. Yea, Yang is gonna have to be a bird for a while...though there's some more character development with it as well
2. Watt's work on the metal will be important later on...hehe
3. Zander will be recruiting some help...hmmm I wonder who he's gonna get ;)
