After returning to the Sealed Temple and asking Impa what she should do, Asuriel set out to spend time with Faron. The old woman had told her that it may be a good idea to go somewhere familiar that hadn't changed so she could calm down after all the excitement of the past few days.
Asuriel always enjoyed her time with Faron, even though she could be a bit bossy sometimes. It reminded her of when she was a little girl and walked into the halls for the first time.
A six-year-old Asuriel looked around at unfamiliar surroundings that led to the back entrance to Faron's dwelling. Leading the girl by her hand, Impa felt a hint of uneasiness settle in her stomach.
What if Faron and Asuriel did not get along?
What if Asuriel accidentally angered the mighty dragon?
Should a six-year-old really be left in the hands of someone who had no experience with children?
Those questions floated around in the Shieka's head as they neared the entrance to their destination.
"Now, Asuriel, do what Faron tells you. Remember to say 'please' and 'thank you'."
"Yes Impa. Will we be arriving soon?"
"Just through these doors."
The two entered an open room. The ceiling was impossibly high and the waters that made up most of the surface were vast and deep. Ahead of them, Faron waited in the center of the room.
"This is where I must leave you, Asuriel."
"Farewell, Impa. I hope to see you soon."
With a final glance back at the little girl, Impa departed for the Sealed Temple once more. Asuriel drew near to Faron until they shared the large platform in the middle of the room.
"Welcome, child," said Faron, "you are quite a small one to serve the goddess."
"I may be small, but I will grow."
The dragon circled her.
"You are a skinny little thing, but not in a bad way. You look very much like Impa did at your age."
"Yes, she has told me so on many occasions."
Faron chuckled. "What is your name?"
"Asuriel."
"A pretty name, it suits you. Do you remember your parents?"
"I have no parents."
"An orphan, then?"
"No, I never had parents. I was not born at all. Impa told me that when she grew older, she desired to have a child to raise and teach the things that she had learned. The goddess gathered sacred water from both springs and infused a white lily bud with that water. She told Impa that the bud would grow for many years and that, when it opened, she would have her child. As you call probably guess, the bud opened six years ago, and Impa, as she puts it was ' blessed with her daughter of the lily'. My name, Asuriel, means Daughter of Noble Rivers. Sometimes, Impa calls me by a special name, Lothsiriel, meaning Daughter of the River Flower."
"A very curious story indeed. Did the goddess do anything else."
"Yes. She wanted to ensure that I had a good match, so she chose a Soulmate for me. I don't understand what that means, but Impa says I will know when I am older."
"It must be a relief for Impa to know that you will have someone that is perfect for you. Now, Daughter of Noble Rivers, it is time you learned more about magic."
Asuriel sighed as she looked at the many places she visited in the halls, learning different things from each one. In one area, she saw the pool in which she was taught to swim, or that small alcove where she learn the language of sword spirits. The place brought back so many fond memories.
Impa intended Asuriel to remain with Faron for a week or two, so Faron had arranged for the girl to have some different clothes. She was currently wearing a dress with a very light blue bodice. The neckline barely reached the edges of her shoulders and the skirt was composed of diagonal layers that became more transparent with each one. It was modest, but still complemented her appearance more than her other attire. Her hair was pulled back into a high ponytail and tied with a navy blue ribbon. A few pieces were left out to be elegantly pulled back and secured by a few crystal hair pins.
After practicing singing with Faron, Asuriel had found a book about the life of humans before the rise of Demise. She was standing next to Faron while the dragon dealt with her subjects when there was a loud explosion and chunks of one of the wall were scattered across the room. Out of the settling dust stepped none other than the Demon Lord himself. Sword in hand, he bowed mockingly as he addressed the dragon.
"Greetings Faron. I am Ghirahim, the Demon Lord who presides over this land. You must forgive me for my abrupt visit, but I am in need of some information and I was under the impression that you could help."
"I will give no such help to agents of Demise. Begone."
Ghirahim's smile turned to a wicked grin.
"You'll find that I can be very persistent. All I require of you is to answer a few questions. That's not so hard, is it?"
"Leave my halls now!"
"Well, I had hoped that you would treat with me willingly, but I see that is no longer an option."
There was a dangerous glint in his eyes as he fingered his sword. Faron turned to Asuriel and spoke in a hushed and hurried tone.
"Please, go to the Floria Waterfall until I have finished my business here."
"Yes, Faron."
She began to walk towards the exit when a barrier of diamonds sprung up, blocking that exit. The girl whipped around to see the Demon Lord watching her with an amused expression.
"Stop playing games, Demon!" Boomed Faron. "If you must fight me, let the girl leave."
The sound of cold laughter echoed through the room.
"Where would be the fun in that?"
He snapped his fingers and disappeared, only to materialize behind Asuriel. Before she could react, he had an iron grip on her forearms.
"I have already been aquatinted with this darling girl, I see no reason why she shouldn't stay."
For a moment, Ghirahim switched his attention to Asuriel. He gently removed a hairpin that was displaced due to the girl's struggle and repositioned it in her hair. Asuriel felt a tingle running down her spine, giving off the feeling akin to electricity. It felt vaguely familiar. Yes, she had felt it in the Skyview Temple and in the Earth Temple, whenever Ghirahim touched her. She had just been too distracted to feel it, but, looking back, the sensation was distinct.
"I'd say that she's gotten almost use to me."
"Enough of this. Release her at once and leave, I will not warn you again."
"Oh Faron. Such terrible hospitality you have demonstrated. Perhaps I should express just how disappointed I am."
Just like that, he was gone again. This time, he appeared directly in front of the dragon, but he was not alone. The water was swarming with sharks. Faron's subjects, who had been hiding under the surface in nervous anticipation, fled as they were scattered by the monsters. But that was not the focus of what was happening. Pushed to her limit, Faron openly attacked Ghirahim, who proved himself to be faster than any other creature the great dragon had encountered.
Asuriel remembered Ghirahim's warning, but eventually could not stop herself. Faron, although very strong, had sustained a large amount of damage while the demon was virtually untouched. When he was preparing to deliver a particularly agressive blow, the girl stepped in and formed her shield. The few moments of rest Faron received gave her time to recover and drive off the demon lord, who was followed by his army of sharks.
"Faron, are you hurt badly."
"Nothing that won't heal."
"Hold still, I'll see what I can do."
Asuriel managed to heal a few of the many wounds that covered the dragon's body, but she soon became exhausted from the effort of removing those stubborn wounds. She helped the dragon into a basin of sacred water and stood by her to give her company. At Faron's request, she sang for a while until she was told to rest. The efforts of the day came crashing down on Asuriel as soon as her head hit the pillow and she did not wake until the following day. When she finally opened her eyes, she heard the sound of conversation coming from the main room. Upon entering it, she found Link and a fully-healed Faron conversing with each other. Faron was the first to notice Asuriel, closely followed by Link who followed the dragon's gaze.
"Asuriel!"
"Link!"
They ran to each other and embraced.
"Link, how did you get here?"
"That's a long story, I'm just happy to see you again."
"Me too."
Behind them, Faron coughed loudly.
"Well, it seems that you two have been reunited, so you must be ready to continue your quest."
They followed Faron out to the Floria Waterfall and minutes later, they descended the steps to the Ancient Cistern.
