Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto

Hiruzen stared at Kakashi in stunned silence; he'd just revealed to him that Naruto could read at an eighth-grade level, something he hadn't known. The Hokages eyes turned stern, "Kakashi, why wasn't I made aware of this sooner?" he asked.

The Copy ninja looked at him seriously, "I just found out today myself, sir. But get this, the child said he wasn't very good. When I asked him why he thought that, he said the orphanage matron told him he was stupid," he said.

Hiruzen's eyes narrowed, "Oh she did, did she?" he said, raising his hand up an Anbu appeared. "Buta, bring me, Mrs. Dato, here please," he said. Buta saluted and then hurried off to complete his task.

Turning back to Kakashi, he gave him a contemplative look, "Kakashi, if this is true then this means Naruto has inherited his father's genius," he said, getting a nod from the Copy ninja.

Kakashi rubbed the back of his head, "I agree Hokage sama and not just that, it also seems he's inherited Minato sensei's manners, minus the dark turn in behavior," he said.

Hiruzen nodded, "This is a good sign. Kakashi, I want you to encourage the boy to continue his studies and help him in his ninja training. This is a gift too valuable to waste," he said.

Kakashi nodded but looked sternly at the Hokage, "I agree Hokage sama, but what about Naruto's dark side? A shinobi must be able to keep his emotions in check," he said.

The Hokage hummed in agreement and rubbed his chin in a thinking manner, "Kakashi, why don't you talk to him about it and see if you can figure out what the trigger was to insight the incident. If we know what the problem is, maybe we can fix it," he said.

Kakashi nodded, "Agreed, I was already planning on doing that once I got back from chatting with you sir," he said.

The Hokage nodded, pleased with what he was hearing. He was about to say something else but was interrupted by a knock on the door. "Come in," he said.

The door opened, revealing Mrs. Dato and Buta. When the Hokage and Kakashi saw her their eyes darkened. Hiruzen ushered her in, "Ah, Mrs. Dato good you're here. Buta you're dismissed," he said.

The Anbu saluted before leaving to return to his post, leaving Mrs. Dato alone. Mrs. Dato on her part walked into the Hokages office and gave him a short bow, "It's good to see you Hokage sama," she said.

The Hokage hummed at her, "Likewise, Dato san," he said.

Mrs. Dato smiled and Kakashi quirked an eyebrow at her. "If only you knew why you're here, you old hag," he thought.

The Hokage cupped his hands together, "Dato san, the reason I've summoned you is that I have a few questions to ask you regarding one of your former charges," he said.

Mrs. Dato tilted her head, "Ask away Hokage sama, I have nothing to hide," she said.

Hiruzen smiled at her, "I'm so glad to hear that Dato san. Now you can tell me why you told one of your charges he was stupid," he said.

Mrs. Dato was taken aback, "I beg your pardon, Hokage sama, but I never told any of my former or current charges that they were stupid," she said.

Hiruzen quirked an eyebrow at her, "Oh? So you never told Uzumaki kun that he was stupid or called him any other names?" he asked.

When Naruto's name was mentioned Dato's eyes darkened. "Uzumaki told you I called him names, eh?" she asked.

Hiruzen leaned forward in his seat, "Not directly no but it did slip out. Mrs. Dato were you aware Uzumaki could read at an eighth-grade level?" he asked.

Mrs. Dato looked stunned and put a hand to her chest, "Sir, I wasn't aware the child could read at all," she said.

Kakashi looked at her critically, "Oh really? Isn't it your job to know what's going on with your charges? Isn't that the job of an orphanage matron?" he asked.

Mrs. Daton looked at him annoyed, "Do you have any idea how many charges I have under my care? Over sixty before the demon attacked us I only had twenty. So excuse me for not keeping up with what the demon does," she said, not realizing her slip up until it was too late.

The Hokage's eyes darkened, "Mrs. Dato I thought you were smart enough to tell the difference between a kunai and a scroll. I guess, I misjudged you," he said, signaling for a guard. A cat masked Anbu appeared.

Hiruzen turned to Neko, "Neko, take Mrs. Dato to Ibiki and Anko," he said. Neko saluted and grabbed Mrs. Dato and the two swirled away in a pile of leaves.

Kakashi shook his head in disgust, "Unbelievable," he said.

Hiruzen nodded, "Kakashi, go back home and talk with Naruto kun and then report back to me what you find out," he said.

Kakashi saluted, "Hai! Hokage sama!" he said and then swirled away.
