It's a bright and sunny day at a large school with white walls, known as Fukuhara Academy. Several students wearing their traditional white and red uniforms are walking out as classes have ended for the day, while inside the building, in a small classroom, two girls sit at a table having a cardfight while two boys watch them from the couch behind them. One of them has short blue hair, and red eyes, and wearing black glasses, while the other has long lavender-colored hair and red eyes while one of the boys has long blonde hair covering one eye and the other with silver hair and a black visor cap. "Nightrose attacks your Vanguard!" the blue-haired girl declares.
"No guard." The other girl says in a soft, stoic tone, "Damage check." The card she drew was not a trigger, bringing her to six damage.
"Well done Am." The boy with blonde hair tells her, "You never cease to amaze me."
The blue-haired girl, Am, looks over at him and says, "Thanks Kyouya."
"It was just luck…" the boy with silver hair says as he sucks on a lollipop, "If Alice drew any Trigger last turn, she would have won."
"I don't think so Aki." The blonde boy, Kyouya, tells him, "Am did a good job of managing her hand, so even if Alice drew a trigger, Am would have been able to defend against it."
The girl with lavender hair, Alice, stands up and says, "She is good."
"Indeed" Kyouya agrees, "We should have no problem at the competition this week. We won't let the name of Fukuhara be sullied by a club made from misfits."
"I don't know…" Am tells him hesitantly, "Luna said they have some strong players."
"We'll be the judge of that." The blonde boy says with a smirk.

TURN 10 – Fukuhara's Challenge
Meanwhile, at Harumi Academy, the Vanguard club holds a meeting in their club room to discuss something that happened recently, however, Chrono can't seem to focus. He keeps thinking back to his fight with the mysterious man the day before, and the scene he saw in his mind.
Flashback (TURN 9)
When he opens them, Chrono is both shocked and confused by the image he sees. He appears to be in outer space, but his body is transparent. As he's trying to figure out where he is, he turns around and is stunned to see a large planet, that does not look like Earth… but is somehow, familiar.
"So, you can see this image too?" he hears the man's voice call out to him. He looks down to see the stranger looking up at him, "Maybe you are the chosen one."
"Wh-What do you mean?!" Chrono asks, but before he could even get an answer, everything fades to white again…
End of Flashback
"Chrono… CHRONO!" He hears a voice calling out to him, which snaps him out of his daze. He looks up to see Tokoha looking at him with an annoyed face, "Are you going to sit there day dreaming, or are you going to focus?"
Chrono slumps over in his seat and says, "Sorry Tokoha."
The green-haired girl lets out a frustrated sigh and adds, "Seriously… as the vice president of this club, you should take a bit more responsibility." She then turns her attention back to the rest of her club and says, "Now then, I'll say it again. I got a letter the other day from another school. They heard about our Vanguard club, and they're challenging us to a competition. They're known as Fukuhara Academy."
"Fukuhara?!" Luna exclaims, "That's the school Am goes to!"
"Am…?" Kazuma questions as he looks over at the pink head.
"She's my partner in Rummy Labyrinth," she explains, "I've always looked up to her. She's so independent and focused, and she's also a really strong cardfighter. I want to be as strong as her one day…"
"I've also heard about Fukuhara," Shion says, "They're Vanguard Club is one of the strongest in the student league."
"I know." Tokoha says, "Which is why, if we're going to fight them, we need to be on the top of our game. Now, the competition is this Friday, so we have all week to prepare. It's going to be a best two out of three match, so we need to pick three of us to represent our club."
"Well, I think Chrono should represent us." Kumi says, putting her hands together.
"Me?!" Chrono exclaims.
"I agree." Tokoha says, "Chrono is obviously one of the strongest fighters in our club, beaten only by Shion."
"Wait, what about me?!" Kazuma exclaims, "I beat him when I first joined!"
"Yeah, but you've also lost to him a few times too." Tokoha tells him. She then looks at the rest of the club and asks, "Anyone else?"
"Why not Shion?" Taiyou asks, "You said it yourself, he's beaten Chrono twice now."
"I'd be more than happy to represent our club." Shion says.
"I approve. Now, we need one more."
"How about you Tokoha?" Kumi requests.
Tokoha's eyes widen as she says, "H-Huh…?! Me?!"
"Yeah! After all, you're our president, and the only ones you've lost to are Chrono and Shion."
Luna nods and adds, "Yep, I'd say that makes you guys our top three members, and as our strongest fighters, you should be the ones to represent us."
Tokoha blushes a little and says, "I… I don't know… I haven't really been a big tournament goer."
"I'm sure you'll do great Tokoha!" Taiyou tries to encourage her, "Besides, it's best two out of three. So even if you lose, Chrono and Shion can still win their matches."
Tokoha glares at him and grumbles, "Gee, thanks for the confidence boost." She then looks over at Kazuma and says, "W-Why don't we have Kazuma represent us?"
"Nope." he says flat out with a smirk, "I don't really feel like it."
"L-Luna…?" Tokoha asks, but Luna shakes her head.
"I don't know… I'm still a little shy to play in front of Am." She says, "If I'm going to let her see me Cardfight, I want to give her a show!"
"W-What about Kumi?" Tokoha says, desperately trying to get out of fighting in the competition.
"Come on Tokoha, just do it." Chrono tells her, "Besides, I agree with Kumi. You're like our third strongest player, behind only me and Shion. So why wouldn't you?"
Tokoha looks around the room frantically, looking for a way out of her situation, but she finally gives in and lets out a large sigh, saying, "Fine… I'll do it."
"You'll be great Tokoha!" Kumi encourages her, "I just know it!"
Tokoha smiles at her friend and says, "Thanks Kumi." before looking back at the rest of the club. "Now, the competition is on Friday, so let's spend the time we have until then training and learning new strategies!" Everyone else in the club approves, and so they began their training, working tirelessly through the week until finally, the day of the competition arrived.
The Vanguard club of Harumi Academy waits in the middle of the soccer field for their challengers of Fukuhara to arrive. However, they aren't the only ones. Numerous other students from Harumi Academy came to watch the fight, from both the middle and high school divisions. They sit on the bleachers anxiously waiting for Fukuhara to arrive. Just as they're beginning to discuss if they will even show up, they see a fancy-looking car drive up to the front gates of the school, and out of that car steps the four young people of Fukuhara's Vanguard Club, along with their coach, a man wearing a white suit, a bald head, and a silver mustache. "Looks like they showed up after all." Kazuma says, and Tokoha holds her hand close to her chest, nervous about the situation.
Meanwhile, Luna sees Am and waves to her shouting, "Am! Over here!"
"Luna…" she mutters as she and her fellow students line up on the other side of the field from Chrono's club, "I didn't expect to see you here today. I take it you got into Vanguard after all?"
Luna cheerfully nods and says, "Yeah! But… I don't know if I'm ready to face you myself yet…" she looks away bashfully, meanwhile Am giggles a little.
"That's alright," she replies, "but just know I'm ready to fight whenever you are."
"Thanks, Am…" Luna says while blushing.
"Alright!" the Fukuhara adviser announces, "as per the rules of any school competition, both teams must introduce themselves to each other!" as such, the Fukuhara team starts.
The boy with long blonde hair bows and says, "I'm Kyouya Ichijo, age 16, and the president of the Fukuhara Vanguard Club."
Then, the boy with silver hair, a black cap, and wearing a gray sweater under his jacket introduces himself as, "Aki Narukami. Age 14."
Then the girl with lavender hair bows and says, "I am Alice Amane, age 14."
Finally, Am bows and says, "And I am Am Chouno, age 15, and vice president of the Fukuhara Vanguard Club."
After that, each member of the Harumi Vanguard club introduces themselves. "I've heard interesting things about your club. I'm curious to see what kind of talent you have." Kyouya says as he extends his hand, "I look forward to today's match."
Tokoha hesitates for a moment and then takes his hand and shakes it, "I-I am as well."
However, upon taking her hand, Kyouya can feel her hand quivering, to which he asks, "Are you alright? You seem nervous."
Tokoha doesn't even bother to hide it and tells him, "I am a little, but this is the first time I've ever done this."
Kyouya smirks and replies, "Very well. Let's see how things go." Afterward, Tokoha and Kyouya return to their respective sides.
Some Fukuhara employees bring a Vanguard play table over to the middle of the court as their advisor announces, "Alright. Since Harumi is new to these proceedings, I'll go over the rules of this competition. There will be three rounds. Each round, both clubs will pick one representative to fight for them, then those two will step up to the table and have a fight. If they win the fight, they win the round. The first club to win two rounds out of the three will be declared the winner. That is all. Both clubs, please pick someone to represent you."
"We choose Chrono." Tokoha says, slapping Chrono on his back, while he grumbles.
"Very well, and Fukuhara, who do you choose?" the advisor asks his club.
"I'll do it." Kyouya says, stepping forward.
"Are you sure Kyouya? You usually go last." Am asks him.
The blondie smirks and says, "This is the boy with that special clan. I want to experience its power first hand."
Both Chrono and Kyouya stand at the table shuffling their decks, while the others go to their team's designated benches to watch. Once Chrono and Kyouya are finished, they bow to each other as the advisor says, "The first match will be Chrono Shindou versus Kyouya Ichijo. Both fighters, give it your best. You may start whenever you are ready."
Both of the boys then place their hands on their starters and declare, "Stand up… VANGUARD!"
"Go Chrono!" Tokoha cheers.
"You can do it!" Luna cheers as well.
However, a few turns pass in the fight, and it ends up being pretty lopsided. Chrono is at Grade 3, while Kyouya is only at Grade 2, however, Chrono is at five damage (Chrono: [X][X][][][]) and Kyouya is only at four (Kyouya: [X][][][]), and it is Kyouya's turn. He holds up a card from his hand and chants, "Furious Dragon of shadows! Rise forth and strike down all with your almighty rage! Ride!" in their imaginations, a black dragon wearing blue armor and flourishing a red cape stands menacingly on the battlefield, brandishing its large spear as Kyouya declares its name, "Revenger… Raging Form Dragon (G3/13000)! Imaginary Gift, Force 1 (13000-23000). Using Raging Form's skill ([X][X][][]), I can superior call Dark Cloak Revenger, Tartu (G2/10000), and with her skill (Soul 3-2), I superior call Self-Control Revenger, Rakia (G1/8000), and then using the skill of the Rakia in the soul, I call Wily Revenger, Mana at rest (G1/8000). Then I use Mana's skill ([X][X][X][]), choose one of your rear-guards and retire it."
However, Chrono doesn't respond, until Kyouya gets his attention and snaps him out of his trance. At that point, Chrono says, "I retired Memenne…"
"What's with Chrono?" Kazuma asks, "It doesn't look like he really cares." Meanwhile, Tokoha holds her hand close to her chest, worried about him.
"Time to battle!" Kyouya declares, "Boosted by Dark Armor Revenger, Rinnal, Tartu attacks your Vanguard (10000-18000)!"
"I… guard (SLD 10000)."
"Raging Form Dragon attacks your Vanguard (G3/23000)!" Chrono simply does not say anything and just calls a complete guard. "Twin Drive (none/Critical). Critical Trigger. I give all effects to Macha (G2/10000-20000/Crit 1-2)! Activating Raging Form Dragon's skill! I retire Tartu, Rinnal, and Mana. Stand up once more! Superior Ride! Revenger, Raging Form Dragon (G3/23000)!
All of Harumi's Vanguard club is stunned, "He rode another one?!" Luna exclaims.
"Imaginary Gift, Force 1 (23000-33000). Now, boosted by Rakia, Macha attacks the Vanguard (20000-28000)!"
"Guard… (SLD 15000+10000)."
"This will end it! Raging Form Dragon attacks once more!"
"No guard…" Chrono declares. Raging Form Dragon pierces Chronojet Dragon with its spear, causing the latter to explode. (Chrono: [X][X][][][][])
"The first round goes to Fukuhara!" the Fukuhara advisor announces.
Just as Chrono was about to return to his team, he hears Kyouya ask him, "Was that really the best you could do?"
"Hmm?" Chrono mutters.
"I knew your clan was unique and that it was very powerful, but I felt like I saw barely a fraction of its power. Is something else occupying your mind?"
Chrono then scoffs at him and says, "It's none of your business." And walks back. Kyouya knows it's not worth fighting, so he returns to his team.
"Sorry guys…" Chrono tells them, "my head wasn't really in the game.
"It's okay…" Tokoha consoles him by giving him a loose hug, "as long as Shion and I win our fights, we still have a chance."
"Will the next student to represent Harumi please step forward." The advisor shouts, telling them to hurry up.
"Okay…" Tokoha says as she lets go of Chrono, "I can do this!" she walks up to the table and is met by Alice. The two shake each other's hands and shuffle their decks. "Let's have a good fight!" Tokoha says.
"I'm looking forward to it." The lavender head says. They both grab their starters and declare in unison, "Stand up… VANGUARD!"
In a bright and sunny green forest, two figures emerge.
"Spring-Heralding Maiden, Ozu (G0/6000)!" Tokoha declares.
"Medical Kit Angel (G0/6000)." Alice declares.
"So, she uses Angel Feather…" Tokoha thinks to herself, attempting to formulate a strategy.
"Since we won the last round, you get to go first." Alice explains to her, to which Tokoha nods.
"Okay, I draw. Ride! Budding Maiden Dian (G1/8000)! I use her skill to discard one and draw."
"My turn then." Alice says, "Ride! Disinfect Angel (G1/8000). I attack the Vanguard."
"No guard." Tokoha states as the angel fires needles from her giant syringe at Dian. (Tokoha: []) "Ride! Blossoming Maiden, Cela (G2/10000)! Next, I use Cela's skill ([X]) to call two Plant Tokens (G0/5000) (G0/5000)! I also call Maiden of Flower Carpet (G1/8000) and use her skill to call another Plant Token (G0/5000)!"
"Tokoha's already got three plant tokens." Taiyou observes.
"That means next turn she can call her Fairy Token!" Luna exclaims with excitement.
"Boosted by my token, Cela attacks your Vanguard (10000-15000)!"
"No guard." Alice states.
"Drive check (Critical). Critical Trigger! I give the power to Maiden of Flower Carpet (8000-18000), and the critical to Cela (15000/Crit 1-2)!" Cela swings her scythe cutting off one of the angel's wings (Alice: [][]), "Next, with a boost from the token, Maiden of Flower Carpet attacks (18000-23000)!"
"I activate my Quick Shield (8000-13000) and guard (SLD: 15000)." Alice declares, causing the attack to be halted in its tracks. She then begins her turn. "Ride! Love Machine Gun Nociel (G2/9000)! I activate her skill ([X][]) (Soul 2-1). I can search my deck for a Nociel card and put it into the damage zone ([X][][]), then I can put a card from my damage zone into my hand ([][]). I put Happy Bell Nociel into my damage zone and return Love Sniper Nociel to my hand."
"She took out a card from her damage zone?!" Kazuma exclaims in shock and confusion.
"Yeah, that's the specialty of Angel Feather." Shion explains, "It has the ability to manipulate what cards are in the damage zone."
Alice then continues her turn. "Also with the effect of Happy Bell Nociel in my damage zone, all units in my front row gain 5000 power (9000-14000). I call Black Aculeus, Japhkiel (G2/9000-14000), and with her skill, add 3000 power (14000-17000) and I can return a card in my damage zone to my hand, and then deal my Vanguard one damage, and since I'm taking damage, I can perform a damage check."
"You can?!"
"Damage check (Critical). Critical Trigger. I give all effects to Nociel (14000-24000/Crit 1-2). Next, I call Scaling Angel (G1/8000), and her skill allows me to put a grade 2 or less card from my damage zone into my soul (Soul 1-2) and then put a unit from my drop zone into my damage zone."
"Oh boy…" Tokoha says, bracing for what's to come.
"Nociel attacks your Vanguard!"
"No guard." Tokoha states.
"Drive check (Draw). Draw Trigger. I add 10000 power to Japhkiel (17000-27000) and draw a card." (Tokoha: [X][])
"Scaling Angel boosts, and Japhkiel attacks (27000-35000)!" Japhkiel fires lasers from her cannons, which hit Cela, causing a huge explosion (Tokoha: [X][][]).
"Stand and draw!" Tokoha declares, starting her turn, "Maiden of budding passion, become the light that that guides me to my future! Ride!" in Cela's place, a young woman with a dress adorned in beautiful red roses appears, swinging her golden scythe as Tokoha calls her name, "Ranunculus Flower Maiden, Ahsha (G3/13000)! Imaginary Gift: Force 2 (13000/Crit 1-2)! Then I use her skill ([X][X][]) to call two Plant Tokens and add 10000 power to herself (G0/5000) (G0/5000) (13000-23000)! Next I retire my three Plant Tokens, that allows me to call an Ahsha's Flower Fairy token (G3/13000), and this token has the ability to have its power and critical become the same as my Ahsha!"
"I see… interesting play." Kyouya states.
"What do you mean?" Am asks.
"By going with Force 2, she's allowed her token to automatically have 2 critical when it attacks, maybe more if she pulls a Critical Trigger."
"I move Maiden of Flower Carpet back, and call Osmanthus Maiden, Anelma (G2/10000), and another Ahsha (G3/13000). With Anelma's skill ([X][X][X]) (Soul 3-2), I draw a card and call another plant token (G0/5000), and thanks to her other skill, all of my units can now boost!"

"Complete Guard." Alice declares.
"Anelma and Maiden of Flower Carpet attack (20000-28000)!"
"Guard (SLD 20000)!"
Tokoha grunts and says, "I end my turn."
"Okay. My turn." Alice holds up a card and chants, "Angel of radiant wings! Descend and shower the world with your affection! Ride!" A light then engulfs her Vanguard, and when it fades, it returns, appearing to have matured into a more mature version of itself. "Love Sniper, Nociel (G3/12000)! Imaginary Gift: Protect 2 (G2/9000-14000). I use Nociel's skill ([X][][][][])! I put the top card of my deck into my damage zone, and then I put a card from my damage zone into my hand." the card she put into her damage zone was another Happy Bell Nociel. I call Love Machine Gun Nociel (G2/9000) and with her skill ([X][][][][]) (Soul 3-2), I put another Happy Bell Nociel from my deck into the damage zone, and return Battle Cupid Nociel to my hand ([][][][][])."
"I see what she's doing…" Shion says.
"Huh?" Luna mutters.
"What is she doing?" Taiyou asks.
"So far, all of her skills that let her take cards out of her damage zone require counter blasts. So she's specifically targeting the cards she counter blasts to take out, so she always has counter blasts available."
"She can do that?" Kumi questions in amazement.
"Indeed," Shion confirms, "As long as the skill doesn't target face up cards specifically, you can take face down cards out of your damage zone with Angel Feather."
Alice continues her turn, "I call Black Clakk, Nakir (G1/8000). Look at the top five cards of my deck and add a grade 3 to my hand." Alice does put a grade 3 into her hand and then discards a card. "Add 5000 power to Nakir since cards were put into my damage zone this turn (8000-13000), and with Happy Bell Nociel's skill, add 5000 power to all units in my front row. Since I have 3, this ability applies 3 times, for 15000 power!"

"No guard…" Tokoha says as Japhkiel fires a laser, disintegrating the little fairy.
"Nociel attacks your Vanguard (27000)!"
Tokoha holds up a card and declares, "I call Flower Garden Maiden, Mylis! Superior Guard (SLD 30000)!"
"Twin Drive (none/Heal). Heal Trigger! I give 10000 power to Machine Gun Nociel (24000-34000) and heal one damage (Alice: [][][][])
"But Machine Gun already attacked, didn't it?" Tokoha questions.
Alice holds up a card with a stern expression and declares, "I activate Love Sniper Nociel's skill (Soul 3-2)! I discard two cards. Generation Ride!" Once again, a light engulfs Alice's Vanguard, and when it fades, Nociel has grown once again, this time, into a brighter, more beautiful angel, "Holy Seraph… Nociel (G3/27000)! Imaginary Gift, Protect 2 (G2/24000-29000)! Then, with her skill (Soul 2-1), I can put another Nociel card and put it into my damage zone ([][][][][]), in exchange, then at the end of the turn, that card returns to my deck. I choose Happy Bell Nociel!"
"That makes four… meaning…" Tokoha mutters in fear.
"Add another 5000 power to my front row! For a total of 20000 power!"

Tokoha looks through her hand thinking of what to do. "I guard and Anelma intercepts (SLD 20000)!" She then thinks to herself, "If she draws a critical trigger, it's over."
"Drive check (none/none)." Alice sighs in disappointment, "No trigger." Making Tokoha wipe her forehead in relief.
"Boosted by Nakir, Machine Gun Nociel attacks (29000-42000)!"
"No guard." Tokoha declares "Damage check (Draw)! Draw Trigger! I add 10000 power to Ahsha (13000-23000) (Tokoha: [X][X][X][][]).
"Boosted by Scaling Angel, Japhkiel attacks (29000-37000)!"

The entire Harumi Vanguard club breaths a sigh of relief, including Tokoha, who just barely survived by the skin of her teeth. Alice smiles and says, "I end my turn. You're a pretty good fighter."
Tokoha smiles back and says, "Heh heh, thanks, but I don't plan on losing this fight! Stand and draw! Now, bloom gloriously! Accept the light of the future that spins out! Generation Ride! Dream-Spinning Rannunculus, Ahsha (G3/13000/Crit 2)! Imaginary Gift, Force 2! Using Ahsha's skill (Soul 4-3)! I retire my plant token and Maiden of Flower Carpet to call another Fairy Token (G3/13000)! Next I call Cela (G2/10000-15000/Crit 2) and Maiden of Sweet Berry (G1/8000-13000)! "Now my Fairy Token attacks your Vanguard, and its power and critical becomes the same as Ahsha's (13000-43000/Crit 1-5)!"
Alice looks down at her hand. She has enough to guard, however, she smirks and says, "No guard." The Fairy Token stabs Nociel with its scythe, causing her to wale in pain, before the feathers on her wings fall off, one by one… (Alice: [][][][][][])
"Round 2 goes to Harumi!" the advisor says, pointing his hand toward Tokoha, who jumps for joy, while the audience cheers for their school.
"Yes! I did it!" she exclaims, followed by Kumi and Luna running up to hug her and congratulate her.

After the girls of Harumi return to their bench, Shion stands up and says, "Alright, guess it's my turn." And then walks up to the fight table.
"It's time for the final round." The advisor states, "Representing Harumi Academy is Shion Kiba, and representing Fukuhara is Am Chouno."
