Chapter 30: The Project
[A sunny day over Hexside's school of Magic and Demonics. Students begin to gather in the Grudgby field for a special announcement. Of course Luz knew what was going to happen, but not many students had a clue what was going to happen. Minutes after the students arrive, Principal Bump stands in front of all of them, grabs the mic and begins talking.]
Bump: Alright students, settle down. I'm pretty sure you all have many questions as to why you're all here, and who these people are.
[The students are already confused as they see the the humans standing next to Bump, especially the 7 ft man next to him]
Bump: But all will be answered right now. As you all know there have been recent attacks in various places on the Isles. Most of them have been attacked because they either had magic, or information that benefited them. And I fear that these attacks may reach Hexside.
[The students begin to worry. But Bumps raises his hand and gains their attention]
Bump: Now the reason I have gathered you all here for today is because I haved called in a favor from an old friend. I want you all to meet West Hercule from the Knights of Chorus.
[They begin to talk amongst themselves once more, some are confused, others are worried, while others are terrified of West's stature.]
Bump: He and his team have all decided to train those who are determined. Some of you may not know it, but they were a part of the recents incidents at Lake Lacuna, the Conformitorium and the Bonesborough Market. I know it's shocking for most of you. But I believe with their help they can bring out the best in your abilities, and keep you out of danger.
[A student from the beast keeping track yells out loud]
Student: But aren't they humans? they're supposed to be Powerless!
Bump: Think it's time you show them what you could do, West, care to demonstrate?
West: Gladly.
[West removes his Vest, and drops it on the ground causing the floor to break.]
[The students are shocked]
West: You kids said humans are powerless...
[Everyone turns to West]
West: ...but that's not the case for all of them. Observe.
[West closes his eyes and summons Hercules]
[Students widen their eyes at the sight to behold]
[West reals his fist back a bit, he looks towards the group of clouds forming, Energy begins to gather, causing an uproar, after 30 seconds of gathering power, West shots his eyes open and breaks out his punch]
West: Divine! PUNISHMENT!
[A huge gust of wind appears, releasing a huge wave of power throughout the skies, splitting the Cloud formation in half, and blowing some students away in the process]
[multiple jaws drop, as they witnessed something words can even begin to describe]
[West hides his Aura and puts his Vest back on and turns to the students]
West: How's that for, powerless?
Bump: Humans can't do magic, but West and his group here possess abilities known as Spirit Power. Something that may be stronger than magic itself. Like the recent Witches duel a few weeks back, you witnessed young Shimada's power in action.
[The all look at Kotoha and recognize her as the person who confronted Boscha, which terrifies them for a bit]
Raymond: We may not look like it, but all of us are more powerful than you think.
A.X.E.L.: Which is why starting today, we'll be your new instructors. Well for those who want to learn with us.
Coco: But be warned, some of us might not go easy on you, by that I mean Kotoha.
Kotoha: Hey!
Bump: Some of you may also not know that a few students have been working with them for the past few months.
[He gestures to Luz and co. who are a little embarrassed]
West: We are not forcing you to take this training. It is your choice whether or not you wish to do this. But I remind you that there are powerful foes that may be targeting this school. And we want to support you all in any way possible, so without further ado for those who are determined. We look forward to training you!
[After a few weeks, the students begin to settle in with their new trainers, and Raymond documents what has been happening]
Raymond: Log date 11/10 and entry number 35 since we have entered the Isles. It's been a while since my last entry, due to unforeseen events. But right now things have been going smoothly since I went to Hexside. Since my last log date I have been studying the runes we got from the Conformitorium, and lately, I feel as if I'm 60 to 69% done decoding them. So far I have confirmed that these Runes definitely make a portal, to where however is still a mystery that I'm willing to solve. But enough about that, I'll talk about what's been happening for the past two weeks since we started training the Hexside students, and what our new members have been up to. First up is West.
[West starts yelling to the kids while they run laps, the banshees except Boscha are some of the kids, while the others, are Celine, the red haired girl from the Illusion track, Mattholomule, and Sam, the Green haired kid from the potions track]
West: Gather round kids!
[Everyone moves to West]
West: Attention!
[Everyone stands in attention]
West: At ease.
[Students follows the command]
Raymond: While most of the students were afraid of him at first, some of them have actually grown on him and see him as a Father Figure.
[West inspects the kids]
Raymond: Sometimes his training is tiring, but for the most part, they're all happy they're getting some muscles on their bones.
[West carries a bazooka, and raises it above Mattholomule]
West: Stand up straight!
[he drops it and Mattholomule falls]
[Raymond cringes]
Raymond: Well most of them.
[we move onto A.X.E.L. who teaches the kids how to fight properly, by teaching them Mixed Martial Arts, the students here are the horned girl from the Abomination Coven, Viney, Jerbo, Barcus, The blue unicorn cyclops from the Bard Coven, Eileen, the tiny student from the beast keeping Coven, and the girl with a mouth on her head from illusions]
Raymond: A.X.E.L. has been teaching the kids Mixed Martial Arts, everyone considers him to be the friendliest instructor.
[A.X.E.L. watches the students' forms making sure they are correct, one moment he sees Viney do something wrong]
A.X.E.L.: That's not enough force, Viney. You need to turn your leg, or you might throw out your back.
[A.X.E.L. puts his hand up, Viney throws the punch with the proper form, and it felt stronger already]
A.X.E.L.: Very good. Now let's get back to it.
[The students get into fighting positions]
Raymond: For some reason he and Viney get along the most. And he likes being called Sensei. I don't know why. I also notice that the students really admire his cooking. But from this point on it gets even better.
[We move on to Coco, as she demonstrates how to do Debridement of wound, burn or infection surgery. The students here are Viney once more, Bo, and Cat]
Coco: A task like this is very difficult, so I need you all to watch closely. Because if ever you lack healing glyphs, or if your magic isn't powerful enough, the best possible method is removing the dead flesh by hand and materials.
Bo: *disgusted* Uh? Is this how this surgery stuff usually goes on Earth?
Coco: There are actually multiple methods of surgery, sometimes you replace an organ, maybe amputate a limb, or you cut open someone to remove foreign debris in their system. To answer your question, yes, this is how they usually do it. Now watch closely because you make one mistake during a procedure then you may risk the patient's life. So you really need to be careful.
[The three continue to watch as Coco continues the procedure on the test dummy]
Raymond: So far Coco hasn't tried to dissect anyone, which is a good thing, but those who don't study under her either say she has a few screws loose, or she's just crazy, meanwhile the students of the Healing Coven enjoy her company and ask questions on some procedure and guidelines. Then there's
Kotoha.
[Kotoha teaches the students the way of the ninja]
Kotoha: Alright everyone, remember when in an open area, you need to blend in with your surroundings, you may use anything as your hiding place, you can hide in the ground, leaves, water, the trees, anything as long as you can't be seen! Now Go!
Raymond: Gus of course still trains under Kotoha, and many people were impressed with her power, so they decided to follow.
[The students begin to blend in with their surroundings. The students here are, Ves from the Beast Keeping Coven, the White Unicorn Cyclops from the Bard Coven, The beak guy from the Oracle Track, The blue haired kid from the Illusion track, and Mattholomule again. Gus and Mattholomule manage to hide themselves but the other four really sucked]
Kotoha: Mattholomule and Gus, good work, as for the rest you.
[Kotoha walks up to the visible student]
Kotoha: YOU GUYS HAVE TO BE THE WORST NINJAS EVER! I CAN STILL SEE YOU ALL! ARE YOU FOUR EVEN TRYING?!
[Kotoha wacks them all out of their hiding places]
Raymond: Kotoha is a little harsh at times.
[Gus tries to calm her down]
Gus: Master, please don't get mad at them.
[Kotoha grabs Gus by the collar and shakes him around]
Kotoha: DON'T TELL ME TO NOT GET MAD IT'S THEIR FAULT FOR PISSING ME OFF!
[The four students are frightened, while Mattholumule chuckles]
Kotoha: And what are you laughing at?!
[Kotoha throws a Kunai which lands right next to him]
Mattholomule: GEGH!
[Kotoha summons a storm and hovers over Gus and Mattholomule]
Kotoha: You two owe me laps! As the best students you need to make an example! So you better start running!
[Gus and Matt hug each other in fear and begin to run for the their lives as Kotoha fires lighting bolts at them]
Raymond: I get Mattholomule and Gus have a rivalry going on, but sometimes I just feel bad for them. Cause you know, their training under Kotoha. Now as for the actual witches of Shatter Squad..
[Willow spars with Amity, Eda spars with Lilith, Emira and Edric watch while Edric is eating]
Raymond: They've been working hard. A little too hard in my opinion.
[Willow throws a punch and pushes Amity back]
Raymond: Lately, they've been acting differently. Amity doesn't get along well with Arthur and Willow has seemed to join her.
[Lilith summons the Boar beast and Eda evades]
Raymond: Same goes for the Clawthorne sisters, I honestly don't know what they've been up to lately, but recently they have been wanting to see Arthur. Maybe ask him something important. I don't know what it is, but I hope that someday we all can get along.
[Move onto Luz]
Luz: Arthur what happened to you?
[Luz sits on the chair next to Arthur's bed in the recovery unit]
Raymond: Luz has been seeing Arthur while he was knocked out. We don't know what did that kind of damage to him, but she wants to get to the bottom of it.
[King walks up to Luz to comfort her]
King: *gentle* Luz I'm sure Arthur will be alright. He's really tough for all we know.
Luz: But to get wounds like this, it's not like him to get into fights unless told to do so.
King: Why don't you mind share with him to find out where he's been?
[Luz feels discouraged]
Luz: I don't think that's a good idea. For all I know he might not want me in there.
King: Why not, he's like a brother to you isn't he?
Luz: I mean yeah, but I don't want to enter his mind without permission. And even if I did, what if I see something that might harm him.
King: *sigh* Alright. But it's just an idea.
Luz: *worried* Let's just hope he gets up soon.
[Luz and King continue to watch over him, as Amity stands outside and grips her scythe]
Raymond: A lot has happened these past few months, but right now, I think teaching these kids to protect themselves might be beneficial to them. Wouldn't want them to be captured by Meta. Anyway, that's my log for this week. Hopefully things get better from here.
[Lightning cracks from the ceiling of Watts' lab, and he laughs evilly while doing one of those mad scientist poses]
Watts: I've done it! The ultimate weapon that will be the downfall of Shatter Squad!
[He continues to laugh as leans towards it]
Viper: It's a bug. You're going to beat Shatter Squad with a bug?
Watts: Viper it's not just any bug, it's more of an improvement of my powers. With this insect I can use it to possess one of their Witches and with that, I can have them locate their base. One praises for my work, and then we destroy the knights, gather the remaining Armour pieces, and Voila! We win.
Viper: *dull* So your plan to find them is to mind control one of their members and destroy them from the inside?
Watts: Fool Proof isn't it?
Viper: *annoyed* I can name lots of ways this can backfire.
Watts: Oh hush, This will work. All we need to do is get this on one of them and we're golden.
Viper: Alright, so how do we do that?
[hours later Watts and Viper are in front of the Grudgby field watching the students train]
Watts: Now to take aim at that girl, and then, our plan shall proceed.
[viper raises an eyebrow, judging by her expression she can see this going wrong, in ways she can't even imagine]
Watts: Let's begin shall we.
[Watts stuffs the insect into the dart gun]
Watts: Go my child, do what you were born to accomplish!
[he takes aim at Amity, aka the girl who destroyed his lab, he pulls the trigger and the insect goes flying]
[A student calls for Amity]
Student: Hey Amity, can you help us over here?
Amity: Coming.
[Amity moves away from the bullet in time]
Watts: NO!
[The bullet lands on the skinny guy from the Beast Keeping track]
Student: Ow?! What the?
[Viper nods knowing that this was a really bad plan]
Watts: NOO!
[Watts keeps his composure]
Watts: No this is good, I'll just have him move closer to that brat.
[Watts proceeds to turn on his controller, and take over the student's body]
[But like most artificial devices something goes wrong]
[The student begins to twitch and the bug goes sentient, turning him into well, this thing]
Student: *evil* MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I AM SO MENACINGLY EVIL THAT IT MUST BE ILLEGAL!
[Watts opens his mouth]
Watts: That's not supposed to happen.
[The student then walks around making a mess of things]
Viper: *bored* (Well figured this would happen) I'm going home.
Watts: Wait, Viper! You have to get it back!
Viper: *annoyed* Why me?
Watts: If that thing ends up destroying everything it could be a disaster!
Viper: *annoyed* Isn't that what you wanted though?
Watts: *annoyed* Not like this!
Viper: *sigh* Fine I'll go get it. This is going to be a pain in the ass.
[Viper summons Jack the Ripper and moves into the school undetected]
[The possessed student continues to cause a ruckus]
Student: *evil* HAHAHAHAHAHA! Bring me a member of Shatter Squad! And I'll see to it that they will all cease to exist!
Sam: hey calm down man!
Bo: Yeah and stop causing a mess!
[The two students hold him down]
Student: Unhand me you fools! I know my rights!
[he turns to Sam]
Student: Oh you look fine!
[The insect jumps from the Student to Sam, and he begins to be controlled]
Bo: Sam you okay?
Sam: Uh yeah.
Student: What happened?
[Sam punches the student in the gut]
Sam: This guy is delusional, you should get him to Coco.
Bo: Oh of course.
[bo carries the beast keeping student to the healers]
[Sam walks the other we and grins]
Sam: MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I AM SO MENACINGLY EVIL IT MUST BE ILLEGAL! NOW TO FIND SHATTER SQUAD AND DESTROY THEM!
[The bewitched Sam begins to make his move]
[Meanwhile Raymond is preoccupied with his project]
Raymond: *phew* almost done decoding, just need to translate these last few and I'm good to go. Now what does this mean, key?
[The door is slammed open]
Skara: *excited* Hello again!
Raymond: *surprised* Gagh!
[He turns to the front and sees Skara entering with a cup of coffee]
Raymond: Skara, I thought I told you to stop breaking into my workspace.
[Skara chuckles]
Skara: Technically this isn't your workspace, it's the school Library, plus A.X.E.L. thought you might be tired we whipped up a cup of this coffee stuff.
Raymond: Oh uh..
[Raymond takes the coffee mug]
Raymond: ..thanks.
Skara: So how much progress have you made so far?
Raymond: Well honestly I'm 80 percent done, and these blueprints may have what I need. I just need these last two paragraphs and I'm good to go.
Skara: Oh..so what's on them?
Raymond: Uh so far i confirmed that it is a portal and it needs some sort of key, and truth be told, this looks more like a sword then what keys are supposed to be.
Skara: Does it take you to the human realm?
Raymond: That is the part I'm still processing.
[Raymond takes a sip from his coffee]
Skara: Hey, maybe I can help?
[Raymond swallows and begins to question Skara]
Raymond: Skara, I don't think you can handle something like this.
Skara: Raymond, how long have we known each other?
Raymond: A couple of weeks.
Skara: Exactly, so what makes you think I can't handle this science stuff?
Raymond: Do you really want me to go there?
Skara: Look all I'm saying is, I have more knowledge on Magic, while you have your nerd skills. So if anything, wouldn't it be better if we work together?
[Raymond rubs his chin]
Raymond: Are you sure you want to do this?
Skara: Absolutely.
[Raymond nods]
Raymond: Since you're so eager and I have a feeling you'll complain if I ask someone, I will take you up on your offer.
[Skara gives her hand for a handshake]
Skara: So..Partners?
Raymond: Partners.
[Raymond takes it]
[Both get to work for the rest of the day]
[Meanwhile the student that the bug took over is restrained by the other students]
Student: I told you it wasn't me!
Healer: Please calm down.
Student: I'm innocent!
[West and Kotoha enter the room]
West: We heard a student was looking for us?
Bo: yeah that guy.
Kotoha: Do you need something? Cause you really caused a mess out there.
Student: I told you it wasn't me!
West: Care to elaborate on that?
Student: one minute I was minding my own business and the next minute my mind was dominated.
West: Dominated?
Student: Yeah dominated. And then the next minute, it's gone.
Kotoha: Okay, this is a weird story, but you realise you'll need to clean up right?
Student: But that wasn't me!
[Kotoha and the student get into an argument]
[West is called on the speaker]
Bump: uhm West, we have a problem, there is another student making a mess of things! I believe they said it was Sam.
Student: Wait Sam, that guy knocked me out!
[Kotoha chuckles]
Kotoha: kids these days, hey Pops what should we do with..Pops?
[West is deep into this thoughts he snaps out of it]
West: Grab Sam, and interrogate him, I want to know who he was with when he gets caught.
Kotoha: Why?
West: *sigh* I think we may have been breached.
Kotoah: Wait what?!
West: Notify the staff, and I'll catch up shortly.
Kotoha: Yes sir.
[You know those moments where you're trying to catch something and then you hear banjos in the background, yeah picture that while everyone is on a wild goose chase trying to catch the Sam while the insect transfers itself onto more bodies]
[Sam makes a mess of the school and he holds onto a student from the illusion track and does then she does the evil laugh and runs away, Sam is confused and some students tackle him]
[Meanwhile the girl tries to find the members of Shatter Squad but is then block by three students, the insect transfers itself to a bard student and they all tackle her]
[the Bard student escapes and covers himself with the walls, he runs into the big guy from the Oracle coven, the bard student kisses him and transfers the insect to his body. The student in red is confused and is punched in the face, the Oracle student runs away and others are on his tail]
[Then we go to a crazy corridor scene and I really don't want to explain what goes on here because it's just ten minutes of confusion but if you want to picture it in your mind then go ahead]
[the last student it hijacks is Amelia as she gives herself cover as the students chase her, and the banjos end]
Amelia: Damn, this is getting way to annoying, I need a plan B without triggering the whole student body, but how to go unnoticed?
[She searches for a way to get to member of Shatter Squad, but then notices a bolt of lightning coursing through the school, it emerges into Viper, who is trying to sneak around and capture the insect]
Amelia: *whisper* Oh shit it's Viper! Bet she's looking for me! Best if I hide!
[Viper paces across the corridor, as she is on a wild goose chase herself]
Viper: *bored* Why am I even doing this? This is just a waste of my time for all I care.
[She darts her eye across the room and still finds nothing]
Viper: *bored* Multiple students have already been caught but that thing is still at large, and it's recent hijacking is a girl named Amelia, who the frick is Amelia? You know what, forget the mission, if I find that insect I'll just crush it along with it's vessel. Shouldn't be too hard.
[She then goes into the girls locker room. She attempts to blow the steam away, but it overwhelms her, seconds later she bumps into someone]
Viper: Hmm?
[Turns out it's Luz with a towel wrapped around her body]
Luz: Huh?
[Viper can see clearly, but Luz can't with all the steam]
Luz: Kotoha? Dammit it's hard to see with all this steam, what are you doing here, it's not even close to break time for you guys yet.
[Luz then goes into the shower while Viper watches]
Luz: If you're wondering how Arthur is doing, he's stable, still don't know what exactly caused him to get all those injuries..
[Luz removes her towel and begins to take a bath]
Luz: ..but I'm still deciding whether to do a Mind share on him.
[Viper blushes without thinking]
Luz: if I did I would just be invading his privacy, then again it could be a huge help if you know what I mean.
[Viper keeps her mouth shut and tries to leave the bathroom, but Luz keeps talking]
Luz: Do you think Arthur would keep secrets from me?
[Viper stops in her tracks]
Luz: Lately he's been distant, and the first time he comes back he comes home injured. I'm worried about him.
Viper: *sigh*
Luz: He promised me that whenever we would come back from a mission, we'd come back alive. Despite the injuries. Now I just don't want him to die. It's like I need to see through this till the end. He's the first human friend I made here, despite him being 20 years old. But he's the only one who doesn't find me weird or annoying, it's like he's one of the only humans who get me, ever since I came to the Isles I have found family in Eda, King, Willow, Gus, Lilith and Amity. Then I met Shatter Squad, then things got better. Makes me think if I should even go back to the Human realm once this is over.
[Viper wants to say something but would blow her cover if she did, on the other hand Luz is right there and she can kill her]
Luz: You know what..
[Luz comes out of the shower and puts her towel back on]
Luz: Maybe I don't need to worry about that, I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with my future, and maybe one of these days I'll know what to do. Thanks for listening, Kotoha. For someone who likes to talk you sure have...
[The steam begins to clear and Viper's image is almost visible]
Luz: ...been...quiet?
[The steam clears up and Luz sees Viper's whole body]
Luz: *Uh*?
[It takes her a few seconds to realise it, and then she screams]
Luz: Viper!
[Viper, summons Jack the Ripper and summons her claws]
[Luz dodges and calls upon her staff]
[Both push each other back]
Luz: What are you doing here?! And why are you in the girl's locker room?!
Viper: One I'm a girl too, and two that's none of your business!
[Viper looks down and blushes a bit]
Viper: But right now!
[Luz raises an eyebrow]
Viper: *embarrassed* Can you put some clothes on?! I'm sorry I can't fight you seriously like this.
[Luz pauses and looks down to see that her towel dropped and she blushes into a deep red and screams again]
[Raymond and Skara continue their research on the runes]
Raymond: Got anything so far?
Skara: I was able to translate a few of them, here's what I got.
[Skara hands Raymond the decoded Runes]
Skara: They look like schematics for something big. Where did you say you got these again?
Raymond: I got 'em at the Conformitorium. Why?
Skara: It's just that, something like this should've been hidden away a long time ago.
Raymond: What are you saying?
Skara: Why would something like be casually hiding in the Conformitorium?
Raymond: Well, it was there and I took the information for it.
Skara: how did you even know it was there?
Raymond: We got the deets for it on the computer.
Skara: Well you're going to have to figure out how it got there because I just finished translating all of it.
Raymond: Oh wow seriously?! I'd totally kiss you right now if I could.
Skara: *blush* Really?
Raymond: Nah I'm just joking. It's just something we humans say when we are excited.
Skara: *disappointed* oh.
Raymond: *excited* So what does it say?!
Skara: Oh right.
[Skara and Raymond take a look at the schematics and continue to read it, but the revelation of what it is is what shocks them!]
Raymond: Wait, that can't be right.
Skara: I thought you said it was a portal to the human realm.
Raymond: That's what I thought. But this. This is bigger than anything I've ever imagined.
Skara: You said you got this at the Conformitorium right?
Raymond: Yes. Why?
Skara: Who or where did you get that info from?
Raymond: Arthur told us. Why?
Skara: Did you ask him where he got the info from?
Raymond: He didn't say.
Skara: Doesn't that sound suspicious?
[Raymond takes a look at the schematics one more time]
Skara: You okay?
Raymond: I need more information.
Skara: Huh?
Raymond: I won't believe till I find out what's going on.
Skara: Don't you mean we?
Raymond: Huh?
Skara: I mean I did help you figure out the rest of this, so I guess that means we are in this together.
[Raymond opens the door and thinks for a few seconds]
Skara: So?
[Raymond gestures Skara to go out first as a sign of their partnership]
Raymond: You coming?
[Skara grins as they both leave the room]
[Shatter Squad plans to capture the Breach]
West: Alright everyone what do we know so far?
[All members including Bump gather around the table]
Willow: With the Earth sense, we recently found out that it's on Amelia, but we don't know when it will jump on someone else.
Gus: And knowing Amelia, she could be anywhere.
Eda: For all we know it's targeting students.
Lilith: But the question is why students in particular?
A.X.E.L.: A power like this definitely belongs to Watts, so maybe he's trying to get intel out of us?
King: We don't even know how to find this thing. What if it already jumped on one of us?
Kotoha: King, Willow and West would sense if it's here and so far it's not.
Edric: That sounds like something a student that's been taken over would say.
Emira: Edric, don't be an idiot.
Edric: Oh I'm not being an idiot, I am just laying out the possibility.
West: Right now we need to lure it out. How to lure it out is a plan we need. So any ideas?
Coco: That thing did say it was after Shatter Squad.
[Everyone turns their gaze at Coco]
Coco: Whenever a student would get infected with this thing, it said it wanted to bring out Shatter Squad, and it's targeting students so for all we know, it's after any of them.
[Coco refers to Willow, Amity, Gus, Edric and Emira]
Coco: Why not use them as bait?
Bump: A nice thought, but I'm not risking my students' safety to capture this thing.
Eda: Bumpikins that thing is going to wreck the school if we don't capture it.
Bump: Don't call me that. Can't you think of any other way to do this?
Coco: Well it's the only option we have. What else can we do?
Amity: WAIT!
[Everyone turns to Amity]
Amity: Has anyone seen Luz?
Kotoha: Last I saw her she said she was heading to the locker room. Why?
[Willow feels the ground and tracks her down, the flora around the school reveal Luz and Viper having a skirmish]
Willow: I found her. She's fighting someone!
Amity: Fighting someone! Who?!
[willow continues to use her power]
