Chapter 6 - "Racing is for Boys"

When Lightning entered the room with Nurse GTO, she shut the doors on the eagar townsfolk. For Lightning, the room was so bright that it was blinding. He squinted his eyes, unable to see anything but a bright white light.

That is, until a baby's cry was heard in the distance.

"Lightning..," Sally's voice said. Lightning smiled. He couldn't see her, but he drove toward the voice anyway.

"Are you ready to see your new daughter?" asked Nurse GTO. Lightning looked to his right. He was able to see her. Lightning's smile faded a tiny bit, "Daughter? I thought he was gonna be a-"

Nurse GTO shook her head, "Miracles happen."

He drove forward some more and Sally's image faded in slowly. The bright light faded just enough for it to be a really dense fog.

"Where is she?" asked Lightning.

"She's here," Sally giggled softly, "And..we're parents now."

"I'm a father.."

"I was panicking a little while it was happening..me? A mother? Now? But then-"

"Hotshot!" called Doc's voice from the foggy unknown. He drove closer to Lightning and Sally and Lightning was able to see him now. There was a very tiny white Porsche, a small Sally, with her eyes shut on Doc's hood. She was resting with her little body moving up and down with each small breath.

"Holy...Porsche..," Lightning's lips parted as he gazed at the little girl. He hasn't fallen in love this fast since the first Porsche he fell in love with at first sight.

The fog disappeared and for the first time in a while, Lightning saw everything clearly. He couldn't take his eyes off of his daughter.

"But then..what, Sally?" he asked.

"Then, I saw her."

Doc drove closer to Lightning with the little Porsche on his hood, "Now, now, bow your hood."

Lightning did exactly what he said. Doc tilted his hood and the baby girl rolled off and then stopped on Lightning's. Lightning watched in awe, "She's breathing.."

"Baby cars always start out in neutral until they learn how to switch out of it on their own and drive by themselves. She can't move unless you move her. She has a coat of white on right now, but soon her natural paint job will fade in," Doc informed, "Oh, and Lightning?"

"Yes?"

"Name?"

"A n-name?" Lightning glance over at Sally.

"She's like a star..," Sally mentioned, "How about...Stella?"

"A star?" Lightning smiled, "How about 'Jane' then? Jane Taylor McQueen?"

"Jane Taylor?"

"Jane Taylor. I remember my mom telling me when I was younger that she was the one who wrote 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'."

"That's a great name," Doc said.

With a nod, Sally agreed, "I think so too. It's so lovely."

"Jane Taylor McQueen," Doc repeated.

"Lightning, look!" Sally called out. Lightning looked in front of him at Jane. Her eyes were closed but her eyelids moved. Just then, with a little coo, her eyes slowly started to open. When they were fully open, she looked right into Lightning's eyes and blinked a few times. She pulled her lips in.

"Her eyes," said Lightning, "They look like they're two different colors."

Sally and Doc looked over and saw that Jane's right eye was a shade of blue and her left eye was a shade of green.

"They're gorgeous!" Sally said.

"Hm...interesting…," said Doc, "But keep in mind that could also change in time."

Jane giggled and bounced on her shocks.

Lightning giggled, "So cute..," he looked at Doc, "Can we take her home?"

"Yes," said Doc. Sally bowed her hood to Lightning and he tilted his hood to let Jane go to her. When Jane was on her hood, Sally carefully rolled off of the lift, "Thank you, Doc."

"Just doing my job," Doc smiled proudly.

"Yeah," Lightning replied, "Thanks."

"You're welcome, you two," he motions to the door with a wheel, "There are a bunch of cars out there who want to share this with you."

Lightning nudged the door open for her, then held it while she pulled out of the room.
