CHAPTER 28

The sound of a machine beeping and the feeling of a needle in my arm and something metal around both of my wrists were the first things I noted when I came to. I was scared to open my eyes but knew I had to if I wanted any chance of escape. Peaking open my eyes I saw white hospital walls and medical machines all around me, trying to move my hands I saw I was handcuffed to the hospital bed.

"Don't struggle."

Looking over I saw a woman standing in the doorway, she was wearing a nurse's outfit, I almost thought she was a vampire with how pale she was but her eyes were a bright blue, shining with unshed tears.

"Help me. Please. I need to get out of here."

The woman came to stand by the bed, looking over the machines before turning to me.

"I can't. I am here to keep you alive and healthy through your pregnancy."

I felt neasous, I had wanted all this to be a bad dream but it wasn't. I was really pregnant with a hybrid baby and Alec didn't even know. Would he ever find out about the baby?

"Please. Please help me."

Again, the woman shook her head, she wouldn't help me. Defeated I laid my head back onto the pillow as the woman went about lifting my hospital gown and putting some gel on my belly. Looking over I watched the ultrasound screen as the woman moved the wand to push down on my lower abdomen. I held my breath as the fuzzy black and white screen showed what looked like a big bean-shaped sack in my uterus.

"W-where is the baby?"

The woman frowned as she was joined by Vladimir. Peering over her shoulder, he didn't seem confused by what he was looking at.

"The machine won't see through the embryotic sack. The baby is unquestionably a hybrid."

I glared at him as he gave me a smile, leaning down he placed his hand on my belly.

"This child will bring about the fall of the Volturi. Kind of poetic really. I'll be sure to inform Alec of the child's parentage before I destroy him."

Choking back a sob I closed my eyes, not wanting to look at him anymore, Vladimir took his hand off my belly before he continued to talk.

"Lydia here will be your nurse, she will ensure the baby is healthy and you survive long enough to birth this child. She won't help you escape ei-"

The sound of an alarm going off cut him off.

"That's my cue to leave. Can't have Demetri finding you. I'll see you when you go into labor."

I didn't acknowledge him at all. Once he was gone I broke down, not caring about muffling my wails of sorrow.
