NOTE: I've been having trouble coming up with interludes as of recently. It's really difficult since most of the cast are all together at this point, so there's not much I can write with that isn't mainly involved with the plot. If you guys have any ideas on interludes if you still want them then you can PM me with ideas.
Enjoy and Review!
Chapter 21: Emotions
Misaki allowed her phone to ring for a couple more seconds. The lilac beauty's mind froze as she read Kai's name again. She released another breath to calm her nerves before she answered the call and put the phone up to her ear.
"Misaki, it usually doesn't take this long for you to answer," Kai's stoic voice came through the phone. Misaki released another breath instead of answering him.
"Hm? Hello? Misaki, are you alr-"
"Where were you?"
"What? Misaki, what do you-"
" .You?" Misaki pressed further, her anger beginning to seep through. She noticed that Kai didn't respond back immediately, guessing that he was coming up with an answer.
"...I was with Leon," Kai answered hesitantly.
"Why?" Was her only question.
"I needed to be stronger...I wasn't-"
"And being stronger was more important than being with your friends?"
"What!? No! Misaki-"
"I really thought that you had changed, that you wouldn't be so self-centered anymore. That Aichi had beaten that mentality out of you…" Misaki felt her anger rising as the conversation continued. Her emotions have been tested far too much these past weeks and she wasn't sure if she could keep them in anymore.
"I have changed, Misaki! I just needed-"
"Needed what!? To get stronger at Vanguard!? Sorry, that this game is more important than us!" Misaki yelled, her voice breaking as her volume increased.
"I'm not saying that it's more important! I'm trying to tell you that I needed help!"
It felt as if the iceberg that was her emotions shattered at that moment. From within the raging inferno blazed with pure fury. "SO DID WE! WE NEEDED YOU! AND YOU WEREN'T THERE, BUT THEN AGAIN WHEN ARE YOU!?"
He was quiet for a moment, clearly taken aback from hearing Misaki scream like that. She would've been equally surprised at her own voice if she wasn't pissed off at the moment.
"I don't understand why you're upset!? You're not making any sense, Misaki!"
"Let me make it clear to you, Kai," She was seething at this point. "Every time we've needed you you bailed on us. When you lost to Ren at Fukuhara you completely abandoned the team, leaving Aichi to fend for himself. When Aichi needed you for the Asia Circuit, it was you who went and joined Team AL4 instead! And I don't think we need to go over what you did earlier this year. You've been a constant jerk to the people around you and the only reason you haven't been shunned by everyone is because of Aichi and Miwa!" Misaki ranted into the phone. Her voice wasn't as loud as before, but her intense anger was still ever so present.
He was silent, deathly quiet at that. She knew that she had probably gone too far with her words, and could've just left it earlier, but something was telling her that he deserved it. That Kai had this coming for a long time.
"...Misaki-"
"Shut up."
He wisely did and Misaki took that opportunity to continue speaking. "Kai, the only thing I need from you right now is to find someone for me." She could tell he was about to speak and promptly cut him off. "Do not speak, because I do not want to hear your voice right now," When he didn't respond back, she continued. "The person I want you to find is a small boy named Chrono Shindou with bright red hair and a pink swirl in the middle, not that hard to find. He is very important to me and Shin, so this will mean a lot to me. When you find him contact me immediately! Only after you've located him will I bother hearing what you have to say. Am I clear?" Misaki ordered.
"...Yeah…"
"Good. Goodbye, Kai."
Hazel orbs fluttered open to stare at the white ceiling above them. Tokoha winced as she felt her head hurting from her fall earlier. "Ugh, where am I?" She looked around at her surroundings. The emerald girl saw that she was inside of someone's home, obviously not her home.
"Oh, so you woke up?"
Tokoha turned to see Rekka leave the kitchen and enter the living room. "Y-Yeah, what happened? I remember cardfighting Chrono and then-CHRONO! Where is he!?" Tokoha jumped up with a new found vigor, causing Rekka to flinch.
"W-Whoa! You should not be jumping up like that!" Rekka tried to push the younger girl back down.
Tokoha started pushing back against the idol, not wanting to be confined anymore. "I can't! I need to get to Chrono!" Tokoha managed to overpower the idol and ran towards the door.
Rekka scrambled to her feet, she managed to catch Tokoha and pulled her to the floor. "What is wrong with you!? Why do you need to go after Chrono so badly!?" Rekka asked.
Tokoha hesitated with her answer, her mind racing to figure out why. "I-I don't know! But, there's just something telling me to hurry after him! That...that Chrono is in danger! I don't know, I just need to find him! Please!" Tokoha begged the idol.
Rekka wasn't sure on what to do, a part of her was telling her that letting Tokoha go was a bad idea. But, the other part of her was telling her to listen to the girl's request. Something felt off and she had a feeling on what. "Tokoha, did you have a dream while you were out?"
"W-What!? I-I don't know! Maybe, but I can't remember what. All I know is that I need to get to Chrono! He's hurting and he needs us!" Tokoha answered as she struggled to push Rekka off of her.
"Us? You mean Misaki and Shin, right?" Rekka asked.
"No! Not them! He needs us! Me and Shi-AH!" Tokoha was stopped by a splitting headache. She slowly stopped struggling as the world of unconsciousness began to take her once more.
"Not yet, Tokoha. Not yet," This was the last thing Tokoha heard before she went back to sleep. Rekka rolled off of the emerald girl and laid on her back.
"What the hell is happening?" Rekka asked nobody as she laid on the floor.
Chrono Shindou sat alone on a swing set. Kicking his legs back and forth slowly as he barely moved on the swing. The boy's green orbs stared lifelessly towards the ground, unfocused as he listened to wind blow past him.
"All my fault...all my fault…" The words repeated themselves constantly within his head. He hurt Tokoha, someone he was connecting with. Someone who he had believed to be just like him, and he hurt her. "I don't deserve to be happy. I don't deserve anything." Chrono kept telling himself, breaking himself down over and over again.
"Are you ok?"
"Huh?"
Chrono looked behind his shoulder to see a boy around his age with bright blonde hair. His blue eyes showed worry as he stared at Chrono. "W-Who are you?"
"Ah, excuse my manners. My name is Shion Kiba, and yours?" Shion introduced himself.
"C-Chrono Shindou," He answered a bit hesitantly. The boy nodded his head and sat down on the swing next to him.
"Nice to meet you, Chrono. Would you like to talk?" Shion asked.
Chrono looked at him confused. "Talk about what?"
"Anything you want, you look like you could use someone to talk to," Shion said.
Chrono didn't want to talk, it was as simple as that. But, there was a familiar feeling in his chest telling him to trust the boy in front of him. A feeling that reminded him of Tokoha. "I-I guess…" He responded, unsure of himself.
Unbeknownst to the boys as they talked, a teenager with long white hair and dressed in black was approaching the park. His blood colored eyes locked directly onto Chrono Shindou.
Chapter End
NOTE: Misaki is going through a lot, but so is everyone in the story. I always felt that if anyone in the show genuinely wanted to call Kai out on his bullshit throughout the entirety of the original it would've been Misaki, because Miwa and Aichi are too nice. And Kai wouldn't have taken Kamui seriously, so Misaki was mostly the only choice to get through to him.
Chrono is in danger, lots and lots of danger. I can't say what's going to happen to him. So, all I can say is look forward to it.
What is Emi doing? You'll find out soon.
Stay safe and have a great day!
