Okay, so I honestly was not planning to write more of this fic, but I have quite a few reviews asking, and I live to please. Also, my friend Flo literally refused to read the last chapter unless I wrote another, so thank her.
I plan to write quite a bit of Addek working through their "problem" so stay tuned.
Anyways, here is chapter 5.
…
The sun peaked through the cracks of their curtains, waking Addison from her slumber. Still half asleep she reached for Derek and instinctively questioned whether or not he would be there. When she felt her skin touch his, the memories from the night before rushed back.
He promised things would be different. He promised he wouldn't leave without telling you. He promised you would come first.
She felt her face twist into a sleepy smile as she pulled herself up against him. He immediately wrapped his arms around her and pulled her in. She buried her face into his neck and whispered, "good morning," before giving his neck a gentle kiss.
"Morning," he mumbled, in the sleepy voice she had missed hearing. "What time is it?"
Without moving she responded. "I have no clue."
Neither of them moved or spoke for several more minutes. They just laid there, wrapped in each other and drifting in and out of sleep. Derek began rubbing circles on her back. This completely pulled her into consciousness.
"Happy day after our anniversary," she said.
"Addison, that isn't a thing."
She leaned up and kissed his jaw. "It is if we make it."
He turned his head down and kissed the top of her head and quietly said, "whatever you say."
"Isn't this great," she asked.
"I forgot how much I missed it."
"I didn't," she replied, immediately feeling guilty.
Derek let out a sympathetic sigh and said, "I'm sorry, Addie."
Addison, desperate to shake the bad parts of last night off, sat up and said, "no. Today is a new day. We are moving on."
Derek looked up at her, admiring how her hair was falling into her face in the messiest yet perfect way. Even after all these years he was still struck by how she always remained effortlessly perfect. You could see her after a 48-hour shift in the ER and she would still look as if she had walked through the door moments before. It was a gift. A gift that he had forgotten to admire. He had not stopped noticing of course. However, he had stopped telling her he noticed. So, due to recent events, he felt the need to let her know. "Addie," he said. "No one should look that good when they first wake up."
"Derek Shepherd, if you want morning sex all you have to do is ask."
"I mean, I wasn't actually going for that, but I am not going to say no."
Addison gave him a questioning glance and he raised his eyebrows in response, so she shrugged her shoulders and said, "it isn't like we have any other plans."
He gave her a grin and said, "well, we should celebrate since it's the day after our anniversary."
"Derek, that isn't a thing," she teased, borrowing his words.
Borrowing hers right back he said, "it is if we make it," and pulled her down against him.
…
"We should probably get up now," Derek said while running his hands through her long red hair.
She leaned her head up and said, "well I am getting hungry."
"Well, you are in luck. There's some leftover chicken you can have."
She gave him an evil glance and said, "I am not ready to make jokes about the chicken."
He chuckled and pulled his arm from around her, so they could both get up. "I was thinking about the chicken last night and I think I know what happened."
"Are you serious," she asked, turning to face him while slipping into her robe.
"Yeah. It was either the incision was not deep enough, or we needed something to close the incision."
Addison gritted her teeth and said, "No, Derek. I am not asking what you think we did wrong with the chicken. I am asking when exactly your mind was focused on the chicken mishap. Was it while we were having sex, or was it when we were cuddling after sex?"
Derek did nothing but stare.
She put her hand on her hip and glared, "well, which is it?"
Derek looked at her unsure of what to say. She gave him two options, but he knew better than to pick either. Addison placing her hand on her hip, speaking in that tone, and offering options never ended well for him. "Well, you were already asleep," he said frantically, "and I was only thinking about it because I remembered how upset you were."
She seemed to ponder that for a moment and then said, "whatever. I need a cup of coffee."
He breathed a sigh of relief, but not too big. He knew better than to celebrate because when it came to Addison, she was always ready to fight. With one small exception, coffee of course. Addison needed coffee before she was ready to do anything."Coffee, it always helps." That's what she had always said. So, Derek knew he was not quite out of the woods yet. After she had downed at least one cup, she might be ready to fight about the chicken again.
Derek had not ever been a fighter, but Addison was a different story. Assuming she had at least one cup of coffee, she could go for hours. Just when you think she is done or has moved on, she would start back up. But the thing was, Addison did not fight like a typical person. She hardly ever yelled. She simply retreated into this world of passive aggressiveness. She would make small snide comments that would seem insignificant to an untrained ear, but he knew better. She also gave him looks. Awful looks. He was relatively certain that the phrase "a look that could kill" was coined after someone got into a fight with a Montgomery. Both of these fighting styles made him uneasy, but they were nothing compared to his least favorite, which was Silent Addison. If Addison was mad enough, she would remain silent. This haunted Derek far beyond the others because while she was saying nothing, she was saying everything. He had always said that nothing was louder than his wife giving him the silent treatment. No one understood what he meant of course. Although Derek had tried, there was never a good way to explain it to anyone. Savvy and Weiss would often questioned how remaining silent was considered fighting, but he knew her. At her core, she was a WASP and that is how a WASP fights. Granted, she didn't show that side often, but it was there. It would rear its ugly head when waiters were less than perfect, airplane rides were too bumpy, and when they fought.
He thought back to their first real fight in medical school. She had a tough day, and he made it worse by comparing her to her family. He might as well have slapped her in the face, which is exactly why he would never dare say anything about it now. The one time he did it in medical school, they wasted days fighting. Now when he felt the WASP coming out of its hive, he would simply brace himself and hope it ended quickly.
"You want a cup," Addison asked, even though she was already pouring him some.
He took a sip and give her a smile of thanks.
"You know what would be good?"
Derek looked up from his coffee and said, "a blueberry muffin?"
Addison nodded and said, "you know me so well."
"I can go get us one."
Addison walked over to the chair where he was sitting. She situated herself in his lap and draped her legs over his. "I'd rather you stay right here."
He wrapped his arms around her waist and said, "then that's exactly what I will do."
She gave him a kiss that tasted like coffee and ran her fingers through his messy hair.
"Addison," he mumbled underneath her lips. "What if he have our coffee in bed?"
He felt her smile and nod as she kept kissing him. He stood up and lifted her with him.
"Don't hurt yourself," she teased.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
She answered him with a kiss.
Suddenly they were interrupted by Addison's phone ringing.
"Absolutely not," Derek insisted while continuing to kiss her.
"Derek, it might be a patient."
He sat her down feeling as if it was only fair since he had disappointed her many times because of patients.
"It's Lizzie," she said, pulling the phone to her ear.
God, what could she possibly want? She better make it quick because we have plans.
"Hey, Liz. What's up," Addison asked.
Derek walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "What does she want," he mumbled as he kissed her neck. Addison playfully tried to pull away as he continued. Derek, paying no mind to Addison's conversation, slipped his hands underneath her shirt and said, "hang up the phone."
"Of course," Addison said.
"Thank god," he said, turning her around.
"I'm not talking to you," she hissed at him. "Yeah, of course we will be there, Lizzie."
Derek rolled his eyes and stood patiently not caring at all what they would be there for.
"Yeah, just text me everything," she said into the phone. "Alright, bye."
Derek wasted no time. A soon as she stopped talking he closed the distance between them and started kissing her again.
She pushed him back gently and said, "Derek, I have bad news."
"What, my sister delayed sex for far too long?"
"Well, yes. But she is delaying it temporally because we have to go."
Derek looked at her and raised his eyebrows.
"They want to throw Nancy a party."
"A party for-" but she cut him off.
"Her birthday, Derek. Her birthday is this weekend."
"Shit," he mumbled. "I forgot."
"Honestly, I did too," she admitted. "But anyways, they want to surprise her with a party tomorrow. Just family of course, but still. They want a party."
Derek eyed her. He could tell by the tone of her voice that there was more to this story.
"And, well. They want to use our Hampton house for the party."
Yep. There it was.
"When," he asked, trying not to sound annoyed.
Addison picked up their coffee and handed him his. "Here," she said sweetly. "Drink up."
"Addison, when is this party taking place?"
"In two days," she mumbled just quiet enough that he could hear her. "But you know how Nancy is. It needed to be spur of the moment or she would have figured everything out!"
"In two days," he asked. "People are coming to our house in two days for a party that has not even been planned?"
Addison took a big gulp of her coffee and nodded.
Derek knew Addison was not someone that liked last minute plans. She hated them actually. Thrown together events were the worst because they felt rushed and if there was one thing Addison truly hated it was to feel rushed.
"How do you feel about this," he asked, watching her cling to her coffee like it was a lifeline.
She took another big gulp of her coffee and said, "I think I need more coffee. That will help."
Derek took her mug and walked to the coffee pot. "They expect you to plan the party," he asked.
"Yep. They think I am the only one Nancy won't be able to pull the truth from in an interrogation."
That was probably true. Nancy liked to pry, but Addison was always good at holding her off.
"Well," Derek started, while handing her the full coffee mug. "If there is one thing I know about you, it's that you are incredible under pressure, so everything will be fine."
"There's so much to do."
He nodded and said, "so, when do we need to leave?"
She gave him an apologetic look and said, "as soon as possible."
He knew the answer before he even asked, so he simply nodded.
"I know we had unofficial plans, but it might be fun, Derek. Besides, it's just going to be your family. Sisters, husbands, kids, and your mom of course."
He gave her a small smile and said, "I know. I was hoping for a weekend just us, but I do enjoy watching you work."
She smiled over her coffee cup and said, "well, buckle up because things are about to get hectic."
"I will call the hospital and tell them we will both be out on Monday."
"And Tuesday," she added.
"Two days," he asked. "Addison, I can't take off for two days. I have patients."
"I have patients too. Your sisters have patients. We all have patients, Derek. But this is a one-time thing, and it is for your sister."
"Fine," he mumbled. "I will call the hospital."
"I'm going to start packing."
"Okay, I need to do some shuffling with patients, so it might take me a few minutes."
Addison downed the rest of her coffee and said, "okay. I'll start packing for us both, if you want?"
He nodded and picked up his phone.
"Derek," she said. "Thank you."
He smiled at her and said, "you don't have to thank me for spending the weekend with my family."
"No, I mean for not fighting over work."
"Addison, I meant what I said last night. You come first. Our family comes first."
She bit her bottom lip in an attempt to stop the massive smile she felt coming. "Okay, I'm going to pack."
He watched her walk up the stairs and he couldn't help but smile. It felt good to know she was happy.
But will it last?
He had no clue, all he knew was that they were about to spend a weekend drowning in Shepherd family craziness. That was never easy.
…
Okay! Full disclosure, it took me so long to get this chapter up because I was not sure where this story would go. But now that I have started writing again, it is flowing pretty easily.
So, if you enjoyed, please let me know!
I want to write more but reviews (like coffee) always help. xx
