Ciel stared up at the ceiling while she listened to Sebastian and the midwife converse with one another in hushed whispers outside of her bedroom door.

The room spun.

Ciel's head swam.

It all felt unreal, even while her belly swirled with the undeniable truth.

Ciel distantly heard the midwife's receding footsteps follow Sebastian down the hallway as her loyal butler escorted the healthcare professional out of the estate and towards the carriage that waited outside.

A few moments passed.

The inside of Ciel's mouth became permeated by a bitter, metallic taste.

As the room took a violent turn, Lady Phantomhive had to roll onto her side or she would surely-

"BBLLERRGGGH!"

Ciel raised herself up just enough to let her vomit splatter onto the floor in an effort to save the white sheets from certain ruin.

Sebastian heard her retching as he walked back up the staircase and the noise of Ciel's misfortune increased his pace.

"My lady!" He called with wide eyes as he burst into the room and found his beloved violently ill.

Once the unexpected upturn finally finished, Ciel stayed propped up on her arms, gasping for breath as her throat constricted while her chest heaved.

"I'm here, my lady, I'm here." Sebastian purred as he rushed over to her side, combed her bluenette hair behind her ears, and gently rubbed soothing circles into her lower back.

"S-S...Seba….Sebastian…." Ciel croaked out as she gasped for breath, "...The….floor…."

"Don't trouble yourself, my lady." Sebastian answered quickly.

Ciel could hear the soft concern in his stoic, cordial voice.

"I'll tend the carpet, you remain my highest concern." Sebastian purred as Ciel's breathing gradually returned to normal.

She swallowed as her stomach settled and he asked her with a frown, "Do you still feel ill, my lady? Shall I fetch a bin?"

"No, I….I actually feel much better now." Ciel whispered as she passed a clammy hand across her pale face.

The dizziness had mercifully vanished.

Sebastian watched her for just a moment before he left the room to hurriedly bring Ciel a glass of seltzer water.

She sipped it slowly while her butler cleaned the mess out of the fine threads of the Phantomhive carpets.

Ciel felt mortified.

It wasn't considered proper manners in her era for ladies of her fine, social standing to lose control of their bodies in such uncivilized, putrid ways.

Sebastian finished scrubbing the floor in remarkable time but Ciel's humiliation broke down her frigid demeanor as she admitted quietly, "Forgive me…...Sebastian……"

Sebastian sat aside his dirty rages to clean his hands in the bucket of clear, soapy water.

He looked up at Ciel with a frown on his face and softness in his dark eyes.

"For what, my lady?" Sebastian frowned, "There's nothing to forgive. I've heard expectant omegas often fall ill, this may very well not be the only occurrence." He finished with a chuckle.

Talking about the life they had accidentally created together made it seem more real to them both.

Ciel gave Sebastian a look that almost seemed as if she were in great pain.

"...My lady?" Sebastian blinked.

When Ciel turned away from him, he frowned for a moment before he heard the quiet sound of repressed sobbing.

Sebastian dried his clean hands and pulled his white gloves on as he stood.

He glided over to the bed and crawled behind Ciel to comfort her as her back shook with the force of her weeping.

"My lady…...don't cry so……. I can't bear to see one as elegant as you become this distraught." Sebastian implored Ciel in a gentle purr.

"Sebastian…….." Ciel whimpered.

As she turned toward him, the strong alpha welcomed her into his lap, where Ciel gladly planted herself and draped her arms over his shoulders as she cried into his chest.

"Was it not happy news that we received today, my lady?" Sebastian asked as his velvet voice curled from his throat as he leaned close to Ciel's ear, "That we are to have a child, you and I?"

Through her tears, Ciel's sapphire eyes narrowed as she heard the cocky smirk in Sebastian's tone.

"You…...you did this to me on purpose!" She snapped as she sat up and glared at her lover.

"On purpose, my lady?" Sebastian blinked in surprise, "Forgive me, but most of the time has it not been you who's so anxiously pulled me into your bed?"

Ciel scowled at Sebastian.

"During your heats, have you not begged me to serve you? As I recall, while those moments were certainly blissful, I was only following my mistress's orders and my lover's wishes." Sebastian finished with a wolfish grin.

Ciel crossed her arms in a huff.

Sebastian smiled at her sweetly.

He found his little omega adorable when she became angered.

Whether Ciel chose to acknowledge it or not, the truth remained that she shared as much guilt as Sebastian over the conception of the illegitimate baby that grew in her womb.

Ciel was quiet for the rest of the day.

Sebastian carried on as if nothing had changed while he oversaw the house as she lounged in her luxurious bed and recovered from her harrowing afternoon.

Little Elizabeth came in that night to hug her mother before Mey-Rin escorted the child out to ready her for sleep.

Once the daily churnings of Phantomhive manor had come to an end, Sebastian slipped into his lady's bedchamber, quietly divested himself of his uniform, and slid under the covers beside his forbidden mate.

At first, Sebastian thought that Ciel may be asleep but when she rolled over to face him with a frown on her pink, plump lips, he smiled.

"Good evening, my lady~." Sebastian purred as he wrapped Ciel in his bare arms.

He could feel the softness of her body pressing against him through the luxurious cotton of her nightdress and it made him grin.

"Are you feeling better this evening?" Sebastian asked.

"My stomach, perhaps." Ciel said with a sigh as she closed her eyes and allowed herself the pleasure of breathing in her alpha's comforting scent, "My mind, no. What am I to do, Sebastian?"

"I believe what you mean to ask, my lady, is what are we to do?" Sebastian gently corrected her.

Ciel pulled back and gazed into her lover's handsome face.

She let her eyes bore into his in the darkness of the room and she pouted as she saw that she had been lucky enough to find a true mate, a strong, handsome alpha, loyal and kind…….someone who genuinely cared about her and cared for her, despite all of her flaws.

Someone refreshingly unconcerned about money, status, and power.

Sebastian just wanted to be close to Ciel, he wanted to raise their baby and to be-

"-I see few options before me besides the doctor with the black bag or a secret carriage in the middle of the night bound for an orphanage." Ciel sighed sadly as she looked at Sebastian.

"Perhaps your imagination is simply limited, my lady." Sebastian smiled as he raised a hand and gently stroked Ciel's feathery hair, "I see a plethora of different paths that may be taken, without doctor's bags or ominous carriages."

"How can you?" Ciel asked with more than a hint of melancholy in her voice.

"How can I not?" Sebastian countered, "You may spend a night with your husband in the next month so that you and I could feasibly remain here…...The child could be passed off as Lord Midford's then, I hardly think that he would know the difference, if it should be your wish to continue this life, my lady….Should it not, your death and Lady Elizabeth's would be simple enough to falsify. We need only a fire to escape into the distance. I can find work, purchase a small cottage for us, and there we may raise our family."

Sebastian smiled at Ciel while her frown deepened.

"...And which of those 'paths' would you prefer, Sebastian?" Ciel frowned, "The second one, I presume?"

Sebastian grinned at Ciel as he chuckled darkly and replied, "I need only my ladies and my pup. How I have them or how I keep them makes little difference to me…….As much as it would disgust me to see you in the arms of another for even a fleeting second, I will honor your wishes, my lady, whatever they may be."

Ciel scowled before she lunged forward, buried her face in Sebastian's chest, and started to sob all over again.

Sebastian blinked before he lifted his hand and began to rub soothing circles into Ciel's back once more.

He purred soft words of sweet love to his darling while he kissed her head tenderly and let his little omega pour the woes of her heart out onto him.

Sebastian buried his nose in Ciel's hair and breathed in his mate's scent which he noticed to his delight had become even more deliciously sweet.

Ciel no longer wept because of the baby, Ciel wept because of her own selfishness.

Could she give up the gilded life she had known to be Sebastian's and to allow Elizabeth to experience living in a happy family?

Or would she be restrained by her own pride and greed to bring a new person into the world under a hateful lie?
