Within the next hour Mitsuko's forces were nearing completion with their preparations. The men were mostly assembled and the boulders for the catapults are ready to be fired. Mitsuko stood far enough back at the open fields that the night sentries would not be alerted by her presence with LingQi to her right, Pang Tong to her right and the rest of the officers behind her including Gyuki who was eager to destroy the gates. To the right side of them Zheng Jiangs forces were ready and willing. Ladders were constructed out of simple wood and rope to allow them to scale the walls while Gyuki works on the main gates. Soon the forces were battle ready, standing at attention behind Mitsuko. Ready to follow her and breach the city standing before them.
'Are our forces assembled?' Mitsuko turns towards LingQi who nodded.
'Yes my lady.'
'Good. Commence the-'
'Mitsuko.' She heard Zheng Jiang voice raised to the right side of her. She turns to face her coming forward along with Gai Shu.
'Allow me to lead the charge.'
'Oh? How come?' Mitsuko questioned. Her eyes displayed a glint of regret in them before being fuelled by anger and hatred.
'This has been a long time coming. We sat back and watched while your forces sacrificed themselves for us during the defence. Its our turn to pay that back.' Mitsuko smirked, amused at this. She used her left serpent arm to extend it to her left showing the city and an open field.
'The stage is yours. However though what about your-'
'Do not worry about him, he learnt his lesson.' Zheng Jiang pointed to Gai Shu behind him without looking, Gai Shu looked to the ground saddened by something as he did not say anything in response. Although a moment later he wore a stoic mask, ready to fight the enemy.
'Fair enough, you're going to give them a speech?' Mitsuko questioned.
'A speech?' Zheng Jiang was puzzled by this.
'Yeah, why not? This may be the last time you may see a good amount of them. It may help boost morale.'
'Boost morale…is this what you do?'
'I mean depends, sometimes she doesn't know how to stay silent.' LingQi answered, interrupting Mitsuko before she spoke while giving her a mischievous look on her face.
'Wow this coming from you of all people? You practically talk me to sleep.' Mitsuko responded.
'Sounds like you should thank me then.'
'Thank you!? Please, if anything you should thank me for putting up with your comments.'
'Excuse you!' Mitsuko and LingQi started to argue playfully, knowing that neither of them mean what they say. Zheng Jiang chuckled slightly at this display, she was reminded of Gai Li and Lu Zheng when they could laugh like that. In the old days. Having that image in her mind she tightened her fist and steeled herself. That image gave her the words she needed to convey.
'Thanks.' She stated to both of them which confused them both as she walked forward.
'Men!' She began. Everyone went silent and those who were whispering in the shadows quickly stopped and gave Zheng Jiang their full attention.
'We're at the gates of victory here, after so long our war with that shameful opportunist is almost at an end. Although I know this wasn't like we envisioned it originally, we lost quite a lot of ground…our friends and family. And for that I'm sorry. However, their will is not lost! We still have them, in our hearts and our memories! I don't know about the rest of you but I cannot forgive Zhang Yan for taking them away! Once we breach the city we will have to fight like demons possessed, like our allies. Remember the faces of those you lost over the years, remember their words well. Remember their personalities for if you remember them, they're not dead! They're still with us! Once we breach the city let loose your rage at the enemy that took them away! But don't throw your lives needlessly, for this is only the first step. Remember why we trod on this path in the first place. To destroy the corrupt Han! Once the mountains is ours we will begin our descent upon those filthy elite who let everyone we know suffer! Now, raise your swords. Remember the fallen and give our enemies no quarter!' Zheng Jiang raised one of her axes high in the air. All of her soldiers raised their weapons in the air yelling including Gai Shu. A moment later some of Mitsuko's forces joined in. Then her officers. Gyuki unleashed a terrifying roar before Mitsuko's serpents extended towards the city and demonically screeched loudly as Zheng Jiang gave the order to charge as she began sprinting towards the city with everyone following her.
The sentries armed with their weapons and torches looked to the open fields as they heard the roaring to find the enemy sprinting towards us followed shortly with a couple of boulders flying overhead them and into buildings and people. They began to panic as several of them tried to alert the rest of the defenders. Luna meanwhile sat on the embrasure and chuckled in an amused fashion as she looked upon the invading army.
'So, they took the bait did they? Heh, lets see if lord Jinzha lives to regret it.'
Meanwhile at the main palace Jinzha is having an audience with Zhang Yan about the mission.
'So you say you failed in your mission with the catapults and not only that but the serpent will strike us soon?' Zhang Yan asked for clarification. Jinzha did not reveal anything about his conversation with Mitsuko as it wasn't his place to hear any of it.
'Yes, I was spotted and couldn't fulfil my objective, I overheard some of the patrolsman saying that they're going to attack any day.' Jinzha bowed his head but his eyes looked up to see Zhang Yans annoyed and flustered expression in his face and eyes.
'Grr, are our siege engines operational yet!?' He shouted at his row of advisors who quickly panicked at the sudden outburst from him before one responds.
'Erm, yes my lord. They are ready and in position over the front gates.' The advisor bowed his head and averted his gaze as to not meet his eyes.
'Good, I don't want anything coming through those gates, I want them pushed back understand!?'
'Of course my lord.'
'And you, for a so called god you sure are useless aren't you?' At this point Jinzha looked him in the eyes to be met with scathing contempt.
'Come again?'
'You heard me, I only did this because of you, had it not been for your ineptitude we wouldn't be in this situation!'
'You dare call me inept you pitiful human!?' Jinzha raised his voice for the first time, his patience had worn thin over the last few weeks. His meeting with the serpent took a lot out of him mentally. He will no longer be talked like he is nothing, he is a mystic!
'I do! Your plans so far have failed and led us on the path of ruin!'
'Your men failed, I did not!'
'And yours were so efficient weren't they?'
'Watch yourself human I will not warn you again.'
'Or what you'll kill me?' At this point Zhang Yan motioned his elite guards to ready their weapons and surround Jinzha who looked unimpressed at them.
'Yes and I will do so gladly. I am not your errand boy!'
'My lord!' Both men were interrupted by a messenger charging through the main gates of the palace as he sprinted towards them.
'The serpent has begun her offence and have started to-' He was interrupted by a boulder flying through the palace walls. Large and small planks and splinters of wood crashed all across the palace as the boulder landed on the poor messenger, leaving only a bloody trail of where he was once was. Everyone was shocked and was silent as they started to hear the panicked yelling coming from outside. No one dared move a muscle, Zhang Yan especially was terrified as he didn't expect the serpent to attack now of all times. He looked to his advisors who didn't know what to do aswell as his elite guards who also looked petrified.
'Are we blind!? Deploy the garrison! Move!' Zhang Yan ordered. The elite guards and the advisors nodded as they quickly scrambled to where they were needed. The advisors retreated further into the palace while the elite guards went outside. Leaving only Zhang Yan and Jinzha alone, staring at each other.
'We should finish this later.' Zhang Yan stated.
'Agreed. For now.' Jinzha responded as he stared out of the huge whole in the wall, waiting for the serpent while smirking believing she took the bait. Little did anyone know the siege was being watched by unknown entities, keeping themselves hidden as the battle begins.
'Should we not attack now?' A voice croaked.
'No, we would be outnumbered quickly don't underestimate them. Let them enter the city and wear themselves out, near the end is where we would strike.' Another voice responded in the dark as the moon shone high in the sky.
'What of the serpent? Should we not intervene with her near the end to make sure that mystic doesn't kill her?'
'No, this serpent has quite a few officers and it would be difficult to escape with them still around. No…we will deal with them first, besides the serpent should win that fight with him. If he prevails, we'll simply capture him to bring to our lady. She'll wear the crown and our vengeance will be ours at last.'
Before long the two armies met at last at the walls. Zheng Jiangs troops who were carrying the ladders were being peppered with arrows while Gyuki made his way to the front gates and soon enough began smashing the gates down. Many arrows were fired at Gyuki however he blocked them by raising his giant club in the air and whatever arrows did find their mark it was but a little prick to Gyuki due to his immense size. Despite being peppered with arrows the troops did not falter and put up the ladders they were carrying on the walls and quickly climbed them as fast as they could. Some archers did try to fire down the wall to the soldiers. Some were slain this way as they fell off the ladder landing on their peers, though they quickly realised the futility of it and ran back away from it.
The soldiers scaled the ladders one by one. They look around briefly before they spotted the archers retreating and readying their arrows. They quickly rush towards them, eager to shed the blood of their enemies. The enemy archers quickly fired, panicked by the ever growing enemy on the walls. However only a few managed to find their mark as they were only militia with minimal training. The front soldiers were struck down with arrows aimed at the face or the chest. One unfortunate soul was struck in the eye quickly killing him as he jumped back. The archers however were unable to get the next set of arrows ready as the soldiers quickly got to them. They quickly pulled out their swords however the front few were slain before they had the chance. As they were slashed with the soldiers' axes, carving through their torso's leaving huge gashes in them before they quickly fell.
Gyuki meanwhile was smashing the gate as hard as he could with his club and even his whole body though the gate held. Though with each attempt the garrison could see the gate bending more, hearing the metal and wood start to creak more and more. Petrified at what is on the other side they dared not move. One soldier who was manning the arbalist a giant crossbow almost fired the weapon out of panic though his partner quickly stopped him.
'Stop we can't attack yet! We need a clear shot!' He stated.
'What are you all doing? Archers fire!' the gate defenders behind the wall heard Luna's orders. The archers quickly snapped out of their petrified state and got into position behind the wall. They saw the soldiers massacring the archers on top. They aimed and fired. As their lives were not in any immediate danger they were able to keep their cool as much as they could and unleashed a volley with a much higher success rate. Hitting the enemy mainly in their sides. Some even attained headshots as they were quickly felled, some thanks to their injuries quickly plummeted off the wall.
Hearing the commotion directly above him Gyuki as he was bashing the gate reached his hand up over the gatehouse. The garrison defenders could only watch as a giant grey hand emerged from the other side of the wall and grabbed a couple of their allies as they screamed for help. Gyuki looked at them to see if there's any of Zheng Jiangs men he grabbed accidently. Seeing that there isn't he quickly opened his maw chomped on his victims. They pleaded for their lives however Gyuki ignored their cries proceeded take a bit out of their torso before quickly stuffing their legs into his mouth aswell and swallowing quickly and went back to demolishing the gate.
Behind the soldiers that have scaled the walls and massacring the archers stood Luna who smirked as she readied her blade.
'Ready or not, here I come!' She thought to herself as she quickly rushed to the scene, stabbing a bandit in the abdomen behind her. Her bright teal sword stained with human blood as some of the soldiers in front of him look back to see Luna. Smirking casually as she quickly withdrew the sword from their allies stomach. They quickly lunge at Luna who was able to dodge their attacks at ease. As she sidesteps one thrust attack she swings her sword down, cutting off the wrist. Before he had a chance to scream he gets kicked off the wall, quickly plummeting to his death. The soldier next to him swung his axe going for his head however Luna bent backwards and thrust her blade into his stomach. As she straightened her back she carved her way out of the body leaving a noticeable gap as the momentum pulled him to the ground, lacking the strength to fight against this. She quickly plunged her blade into his skull. She saw enemies lunge towards her, stepping over their dead to get to her. She didn't move as the soldier swings his axe downwards. Unaware of the clone materialising to his side, her blade penetrating his skull. The body quickly falls limp with the body still attached to the blade before the clone slides it off like it was nothing. The soldiers quickly take a step back in fear of Luna who only licked her lips. The two luna's quickly lunged forward, quickly carving through the enemy with grace and elegance. Her performance was stopped as she heard footsteps behind her. She turned around and swings her sword, only for it to be stopped by Dodomeki's metal gauntlet. The two locked eyes in battle again as with all their strength they pushed each other back.
'Ahh cyclops we meet again. We have to start running into each other like this.'
'I need you to stop running at all, I think taking your legs apart would solve that issue.' Dodomeki responded.
'Well that's a bit rude isn't it? Where's your human friend? Isn't she going to join us?'
'We thought we'd make it fair, since you're too weak to take us on together even with your cheap tricks.' Luna could sense Dodomeki's grin behind his metallic helmet despite only seeing his golden eye in the darkness. She scowled at him finding his newfound confidence to be more similar to her mystic allies and therefore detestable.
'Tch, don't presume anything due to your fluke victories.'
'Then prove they were flukes.' Dodomeki taunted her which she couldn't help but laugh.
'Hehe, ok you're on. Winner takes all I guess, lets go!' They both charged, their weapons clashed for the first time in this battle eager to taste the blood of the other. The metallic clanking was drowned out by the shouts of the soldiers finishing off the archers and the gates slowly but surely starting to break as with one shove the metallic bar holding the gate started to creak and the gate slowly started to bend open, frightening the garrison with each shove as they took a step back.
'St-steady. Steady.' The commander of the garrison stated though unable to contain his own fear.
Luna swings her sword horizontally at Dodomeki aiming for his neck, he quickly ducks the blade and punches Luna in the stomach with his left arm before he straightens his back, only for her to twist the blade anti clockwise as she opened her hand to let the handle twist before grabbing it quickly again to intercept the blow as the blade points towards the ground and pushed it away. As he stood up, he threw another punch aimed at her face. Luna raised her wrist high and swings her blade down, catching the metallic gauntlet and pushed it past her face before she swings it backwards aiming for Dodomeki's neck who leaps backwards to avoid the attack. As he lands on his feet he quickly rushes and jumps up in the air and punches down towards Luna who takes a step back to avoid the attack before slicing downwards. Dodomeki blocks with one of his gauntlets before attempting to sweep Luna off her feet. She jumps up using the gauntlet and her blade to push herself off the ground and flips over Dodomeki. As she landed, she twisted her body for a diagonal slash aiming for his back. Dodomeki bent forwards putting his arms on the ground as he kicked her in the jaw, launching her in the air. She quickly landed on her feet as she flipped in the air. She opened her jaw as she cradled it, making sure nothing broken before grinning widely with excitement before she charges in again.
A/n: hello, its me again. Happy holidays, hope your new year is going well as well as your new year resolutions if you have any. Hope you all had a good Christmas aswell and got what you wanted. My new years resolution is to upload more and finish more chapters in general both this and my own personal works. I ended this here because I think I may need to get back in my groove for writing fight scenes since I haven't done one in a while. But still, hope you enjoyed it and I do plan on uploading a lot more in the future. See you next chapter.
