Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 2 of The Captain's Daughter. I want to thank those who have left reviews for this story. It really does mean a lot to me that you guys are enjoying this story. I'm trying my best with trying this revamp by making it in third person instead of first person like I did in the past when I wrote this story for the first time. This chapter is pretty much going to be Valarie spending a bit of time with her father and talking about her step-mother. Which I think would be good for the two of them to talk. I'm actually excited to show you guys what happens in this chapter. Hopefully it won't be too sappy. I hope that you guys enjoy this next chapter. Without further ado Chapter 2. ENJOY!
Chapter 2
Valarie decided it was time to meet up with her father before they went off to dinner later on. She avoided people who were walking around and enjoying their time on this beautiful ship. She slowly walked into the bridge seeing her father working hard.
Captain Smith turned from the binnacle to his first officer William Murdoch. "Take her to sea, Mister Murdoch. Let's stretch her legs."
William moved the engine telegraph level to all ahead full.
Captain Smith turned to see his daughter there. "Valarie." He said coming over to his daughter.
Valarie smiled a small shy smile and came over to her father. "Out to sea now?"
Captain Smith nodded his head stroking her cheek softly. He offered his daughter his arm. He led his daughter out of the enclosed bridge and onto the wing. He put his hands on the rail looking out with a smile on his lips.
Valarie looked out onto the sea seeing how peaceful it was.
"Twenty one knots, sir!" William shouted alreting that they were well on their way.
"She's got a bone in her teeth now, eh, Mr. Murdoch." He then accepted a cup of tea from his fifth officer Lowe.
Valarie slowly took the mug from Lowe as well who had offered it to her. "Thank you Lowe." She said softly, giving him a smile.
Captain Smith content watched the white V of water hurled outward from the bow.
"A wonderful evening to be sailing out." Valarie said softly, looking out with a look of awe on her face.
Captain Smith looked over at his daughter. "I know we have much to talk about, with your stepmother."
Valarie bit her lip softly looking down gripping the handle of her mug. She hated the fact that they still needed to talk about her step-mother. "Do we really need to father?" She asked softly, looking over at him.
"Yes, Valarie." He said letting out a soft breath.
Valarie let out a soft breath and bit her lower lip softly. "Alright." She said softly, taking a soft sip of her tea.
"I know your step-mother wanted you to be married."
"Yes, I know she does, but she doesn't seem to understand anyone she picks…"
"Isn't the one for you." Captain Smith said looking over at his daughter, his brows pinched in worry.
"Exactly. I don't want to be trapped in a loveless marriage. I want what you have with her. Love."
"I know, Valarie. I can talk to her about it when we return."
Valarie took a soft breath. "She won't be happy that I've turned down another suitor of hers before we left for sea." She admitted softly.
"You're correct on that, but I will talk to her about it. Tell her that you want to marry for love. I don't expect anything less from you. You are my daughter after all." He said softly squeezing her shoulder lightly knowing that was what she wanted and he was willing to help her with that choice. "I know you care for one gentleman."
Valarie cleared her throat shyly. "I may care for him father, but he is a married man. I won't be some harlot breaking his family apart." She said, shaking her head lightly.
Captain Smith hummed softly, knowing that his daughter wouldn't be a homewrecker. But knew much more than what his daughter knew. He knew the man that she spoke of was no longer married and he kept it underwraps not wanting to be in the public eye about the whole thing. "We will play violin sometime during the voyage. In the next few days."
Valarie smiled a small smile. "Are you sure that you will have time for that?" She asked softly looking up at him through her dark lashes.
"Yes, I am certain that I will have time to play violin with you." He said softly, giving her a small smile knowing that she didn't want to take time from his duties to play violin with her.
Valarie smiled a small smile. "Alright." She said softly, glad to hear that her father was one to keep true to his task, but also making time for her to play violin together like they had on previous times out on sea. "I will hold you to your word."
Captain Smith let out a soft chuckle knowing that his daughter would hold him to his word. "You should go and change. I suspect dinner will be served very soon."
Valarie nodded her head slowly. "I'll see you at dinner?"
"Of course."
Valarie slowly handed the empty tea cup to Lowe who took it from her bowing his head. Valarie nodded her head to her father before slowly turning to leave her father. She bit her lower lip as she walked away from her father to return to her room to change into something appropriate for dinner on the first night aboard the ship.

This is the end of Chapter 2. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I tried my best with writing it and I've given quite a bit of new stuff to read compared to what was in the movie. Which I have to admit I hope I did alright with because it is difficult to write such a thing when following a movie. Adding extra scenes in to make it worthwhile to read and enjoy. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. Reviews help keep me going in my writing. I will update as soon as I can with the next chapter. Until next time.
