Three months later

SYLVIE

After shift I walks to Molly's with Violet. Finally, my relationship with Casey has sailed, and I couldn't have been happier.

It's been a few months now, and life has been good. Finally, after so many obstacles, we managed to admit that we both like each other.

We've been trying to keep it on the low, as it won't look good to HQ, a paramedic dating her captain. I have a sneaking suspicion, though, that the girls know. Stella and Violet.

Stella, we've been friends for years, we practically share thoughts at this point. As for Violet, we've only worked together for a while, and been friends for even less, but we bonded quickly, and at this rate, she's become my best friend along with Stella.

I keep catching Violet glancing over at me with a knowing smirk on her lips. "So, you and Casey, huh?"

I choke on my spit. I know that she knew, but I didn't think that she knew.

She smiles, probably finding my reaction hilarious. "I'll take that as a 'Yes, Violet, but we need to hide this from HQ, so can you please not talk about it?"

I compose myself quickly and nod rapidly. "Exactly."

She nudges me, laughing, "You know that you're really bad at hiding things, right?"

I roll my eyes. "You're one to talk, Stella told me what happened when we came to 20 and you and Gallo were locked up in the gym there."

She splutters. "You knew? No one from 20 uses that place!"

"Severide and Stella do," I grinned. "Although I doubt that they use the gym for different purposes than Gallo and yours'."

She beams back at me, and I think how lucky I am to have scored four different, great paramedics, who all managed to come further than ever, and hell, I am so glad that I have had the chance to meet them and the amazing honor to work with them.

Violet is no exception; her medical knowledge being broad, and she really is amazing at treating patients.

When Violet and I get to Molly's we walk inside and hang up our coats. We walk over to the bar and meet Stella.

"Hey you guys," Stella grins.

"Hi Stella," Violet nods.

Violet and I sit down together at the counter.

"So Brett, I've been meaning to ask you..." Stella starts.

I raise my eyebrow. "What?"

"Casey?" She asks innocently, leaning her chin on her hands.

I look at Stella and then at Violet, trying, and failing to hide her grin.

"I swear, you guys planned this together," I groan. "Yes, we're a thing, now please, leave me alone."

They grin and cheer.

"Keep it down, will you? We're keeping it on the low, have been for a few months now."

Violet nods importantly to Stella. "HQ."

"Ah, I get it," Stella understands, "I had the same thing with Kelly for a while, then we just thought, screw it."

She hands Violet and me beer, but not before taking a swig out of mine. I eye her, and she shrugs, "Herrmann won't let me drink on shift, sue me."

Out of the corner of my eye I see Severide and Casey walk in. "I'll be back in a second," I excuse myself.

I walk over to the men and greet them with a smile. "Hey guys, you're bit a late."

"Tone down the perkiness, Brett, there's a problem," Kelly says moodily.

I frown, wondering what's wrong, "Talk to me."

"Let's sit down," Matt walks to a table. "Can you get the rest?" He asks, referring to the rest of out firehouse.

"Yeah, sure," I agree, confused as to what's happening.

Once I gather everyone else, we all sit down at the biggest table at Molly's and look at Severide and Casey expectantly.

"So... What's wrong, guys?" Cruz asks.

Matt pulls out his phone and opens Messages. He goes to 'Jay Halstead' and shows us the most recent texts between the cop and Matt.

JH: Casey, we've got a problem. Get to the district ASAP 4:56

MC: Sure, what's wrong? I'm heading out 4:58

JH: There's a small problem. We have a case, robbery gone wrong, three dead. Suspect, Aimos Dawson.

I gasp, reading that bit. "Is he..." I try to convene my message, 'Is he related to Gabby?'

"Yeah," Matt confirms grimly. "Keep on reading."

MC: As in Gabby and Antonio Dawson?

JH: Exactly. Apparently he's their father's cousin. Anyways, he's causing trouble, and we need to talk to Gabby and Antonio, they're the only people who were close with him.
The rest of the Dawsons disliked him, and for good reason.

MC: So what do you need from me?

JH: Do you still have Gabby's contact? We need to get in touch.

MC: Crap, that's not good. Gabby left unexpectedly, them coming back will only create more drama.

JH: Listen, I know, but I wouldn't ask if we had another choice. Intelligence is on the case, but we need the Dawson siblings.

MC: Alright, I'm driving over to the 21st now, but I'm going to talk this through with 51 first.

JH: That's fine, I wouldn't expect any less. See you soon, bro

"I went over the the district and Intelligence answered a few questions for me.

I stare open-mouthed at the screen of Matt's phone. "You mean... they're coming back?"

"Yep," Kelly answers for him.

I look at Matt and catch his eye. I point to Molly's door.

Once Matt and I are alone outside I put my hand on my forehead and I pace around the parking lot.

"No, no, no," I breathe. "This can't be happening. She can't be coming back."

"What are we going to do?" I ask. "This is bad. This is really bad."

"Yeah," Matt agrees he says running his hands through his hair.

I start to hyperventilate and I feel tears drip down my cheeks. I shake my head. I can't handle this, she can't come back. Matt and I finally stitched things up and now she's coming back and is going to ruin everything.

Then again, when have I ever known Gabby to be like that? And Antonio is a whole other problem.

I feel a panic attack coming, so I stop pacing and sit down on the edge of Matt's truck trying to calm down.

Breathe Sylvie, I tell myself. Once I compose my self I shake my head, trying to unclutter my thoughts. "Gabby's coming back," I say, still not quite believing it.

"Yeah," Matt sighs.

"What are we going to do?" I ask him desperately. I am full-on breaking down at this point.

"Hey," Matt grabs my shoulders. "Hey, Sylvie."

I look up at him, my eyes full of tears.

"Everything's going to be okay."

I shake my head, "Gabby will try to take you back, I-"

"Sylvie. I highly doubt that she will, she was the one that told me to move on, after all. And even if she does, I'm not going anywhere. I'm committed to this. Us. I'm not going anywhere, I'm going to stay right by your side, okay?"

I nod, blinking my eyes, trying to get rid of the tears.

"We're going to be okay. I made a promise, and I'm not planning on going back on it anytime soon."

Matt wraps him arms around me once again and I let my tears soak into his CFD sweatshirt, deeply inhaling his scent.

Once we reenter the the bar everyone is seated in the same positions conversing with each other, worried looks on their faces. We sit down at the table and everyone turns to look at us.

"Listen, I get that this is your guys' decision; Gabby leaving impacted you guys the most, obviously. But, uh," Stella looks around at the rest of the crew, "Whatever you guys decide, we will completely support it."

The rest of 51 nods alongside her.

"Also, everyone knows that you guys are together, it isn't exactly a secret anymore," Gallo jokes.

"I can tell you what I told Violet," I retort. Violet's face pales at that.

"Shut up, Gallo, shut your mouth."

A/N: That's Chapter 1, y'all! Also, don´t forget that this will be a Brettsey story, not Dawsey. At some point there will be some Brettonio (for fans ig), but the plot is Brettsey.

Please leave a review, they're all greatly appreciated!
