As school progressed further into the year, Prompto found himself hanging out more and more with Noctis. Despite all the rumors about the mysterious warlock, he was far from any of them.
He was just as dorky and kind as Prompto was. Sure, he wasn't as energetic and preferred to be a little more quiet, but he was never cold nor rude to Prompto or anyone else. He was just a bit socially awkward when it came to the times when girls would swarm him, asking him for autographs or pictures.
But at least when he was with Prompto, things could feel more normal. At least, that's what Prompto could tell when he sensed the changes in Noctis's mood. It made him feel good that he could bring a positive mood to Noctis.
"So," Noctis said one day.
It was currently lunchtime and the two of them were in the courtyard. There were other students, but by this point in the year everyone knew that they couldn't come between or interrupt Prompto and Noctis's time together.
"So?" Prompto asked.
Noctis closed his eyes. "I was wondering something. I wanted to ask you something."
Prompto rolled onto his side, propping his head up with his arm. "What's on your mind?"
"If you wanted to… would you, uh, wanna come to my house after school today?" Noctis asked in a whisper.
Prompto's eyes widened. Never in all of his days would he have expected an invitation to the Lucis Caelum estate. It was a secret private land that no one could ever find, not even the greatest tracking werewolves.
It was a place meant to never be found due to the secret nature of the Lucis Caelums. The only way to ever see the place would be to get an invitation, but Prompto still never believed he could ever get one. It was almost too good to believe, feeling like a dream.
"R-Really? You want me?"
"Why not. We're friends aren't we?"
"Well of course we are!" Prompto declared. "But didn't you have to like, get permission? Oh gods... did you have your supposed vampire bodyguard dude stalk me to see if I wasn't a criminal?"
Noctis laughed. "No, Cor didn't stalk you or anything. But background checks were performed, but hey, you got nothing to hide, other than the amount of siblings you have. Seriously, you never mentioned you have six other siblings?"
Prompto shrugged. "Didn't think about it before. I thought it was expected that werewolves usually have a lot of siblings, you know… big packs and stuff?"
"But what's that like? Having so many siblings?"
"You don't have any?"
"I got cousins mostly. Got one older brother but that's it. Can't imagine six."
Prompto shrugged. "Well for me it's two older and four younger. I'm pretty much stuck in the middle of all them."
Noctis leaned back to stare up at the sky. "Wow, sounds like it can be pretty hectic."
Prompto snorted. "You have no idea. Imagine coming home from school and being tackled down by four little ones all asking you a million questions per minute."
"Crazy. How do your parents even manage?"
Prompto's muscles tensed as he averted his eyes away from Noctis. "I uh… My parents passed away when I was young."
Suddenly, Noctis's mood shifted. "Oh… shit. I'm sorry. I didn't know."
Prompto shook his head. "It's fine. It happened like five years ago anyways. I just don't think about it a lot."
"Still sorry… I shouldn't have asked so obviously when I'm one to talk."
"Huh?"
"My mom passed away when I was young."
Prompto frowned, adding to the damper mood. "Sorry."
"Hey, it's fine, right? We both let each other know about our families. I don't usually tell others that, so uh, yeah… I guess it just felt easier knowing someone could connect? Shit, I still probably sound stupid," Noctis groaned.
"Nah, you aren't stupid."
"I'm still not good at this social stuff," Noctis sighed.
Prompto nudged Noctis. "Nah, you're doing good. Gotta learn sometime, right?"
Noctis chuckled. "Guess so."
"So anyways… I get to come to your house today?"
"Only if you want to."
Prompto hesitated for a moment, still a little surprised he would even be allowed there. But if Noctis said he could come, then he knew it was for real, and he wasn't going to miss his chance to hangout at his best friend's house.
"Yeah! Totally want to. Meet you after school in the usual spot?"
Noctis nodded. "Yup. See you then."
After that, lunch was over and the boys headed back into the school, back to their classes. The rest of the day seemed to fly by for Prompto, now that he had a new incentive to look forward too. He made sure to send a text to Cloud though, saying he was hanging out with Noctis. He figured it was best not to mention the house bit, just to be on the safe side.
When school was over, Prompto hurried along to meet Noctis at the front of the yard. He, of course, was always waiting there, leaning against a tree. He waved Prompto over, giving one of his usual small, but soft smiles.
"Ready to go?"
"Ready as I'll ever be."
Noctis waved for him to follow. "Come with me. Just… don't be too scared, okay?"
"Uh, you make it already sound terrifying by that ominous message," Prompto chuckled, trying not to sound too nervous.
"Well," Noctis stated as he walked off school property. "You know how my family is super private and stuff. I got bodyguards and well… we are meeting up with one who will take us back home."
Prompto froze up. "Don't tell me it's Cor the Immortal!"
"Okay, I won't," Noctis replied with a smug grin.
"Nooooct. If I have to meet Cor the Immortal I could die! I don't want to be glared down by a vampire!"
"He's not going to glare at you. He may have a stern expression, but he's pretty cool when you get to know him."
"I'll try and remember that."
Soon they reached the corner of the streets and Noctis came to a stop. A moment later a long black car pulled out from around the corner and stopped right in front of them. Noctis opened up the back door and held it open for Prompto to go in first.
Carefully, Prompto crawled in, breathing in the scent that filled the car. It was definitely a vampire. Prompto didn't dare look up at the driver's seat though, far too nervous to actually look at the famously known vampire.
Noctis slid right next to Prompto and closed the door. "Okay, we're ready Cor. Let's head home."
"Of course," Cor nodded.
"Hey, Prompto, you can relax," Noctis whispered. Suddenly, he let out a soft gasp. "Uh, hey, you got um…"
Prompto turned, seeing Noctis gaze at him with a confused glance. Slowly Noctis started to point towards Prompto's head and he knew immediately what Noctis was trying to point out.
Prompto buried his face into his hands. "Shit! I'm sorry!" he whined softly. "I feel so stupid now."
"Hey! Don't feel stupid. I just don't understand. I thought werewolf ears didn't come out unless you were transforming?"
Prompto shook his head quickly. "N-No. The half transformation only really happens when emotions escalate too much. I usually have better control, but I'm just nervous. S-Sorry."
"So if your ears are showing does that also mean-"
"Don't wanna think about that!" Prompto nearly shouted, pressing his face into his backpack. He wanted to hide his blushing face from Noctis. This was the last thing he ever wanted him to see, and he was sure Noctis would find it weird.
But then felt an arm rest gently on his arm. He tilted his head slightly and saw Noctis looking at him. "Hey, you don't need to be nervous. It's just me and Cor, and Cor isn't scary."
"I understand if you are a little on edge," Cor said, speaking up. "But I assure you that there are no hostiles here."
Prompto slowly raised his head, letting his ears perk up a little. "I… I guess that helps a little. It'll be a bit though before the ears… and stuff will go back."
"They're cute though," Noctis said with a chuckle. "Never thought I would get to see werewolf ears so closely."
Prompto blushed again. "Nooooct you're making it harder!"
"What? Even teasing affects it?"
"It's any strong emotion… Nervousness, embarrassment, excitement, or anything else!" Prompto whined softly.
Noctis hummed, still keeping his hand on Prompto's arm. "Sorry, but hey, you'll be okay. But uh… will you need a new pair of pants? I can give you some spares when we get to my place."
Prompto shook his head. "I don't think anything ripped. But, uh, thanks for the offer."
"If you say so. But hey, you don't need to be nervous okay? I'm not going to judge."
With a little bit of reassurance, Prompto started to calm his heart rate. He finally was able to let his ears and tail go back as he reverted to his normal human state. With a sigh of relief he leaned back in the seat, losing his grip on his bag.
"Huh, didn't expect them to just vanish like that," Noctis commented.
"What? You expect them to like, melt into my head or something?" Prompto chuckled.
Noctis snorted. "No, but it's just like, um, it's interesting to see."
Prompto for a brief moment sensed a little hesitation from Noctis. It happened so quickly, but he picked up on the sudden change in the tone Noctis had. He was going to say something else, but at the last moment he changed his mind. Prompto wondered what it was that Noctis wanted to say, but he knew better than to try and question it.
The last thing he wanted to do was make Noctis feel awkward or try to press him for answers. He especially didn't want to try any of that when Cor the Immortal was watching him! Even if the vampire was the one driving, he couldn't help but feel like somehow he was still being watched, but he dared not look at the rearview mirror to check.
The car had already driven into a forest that Prompto was not familiar with. With all that had happened he hadn't even been paying attention to which way the car was headed. It was even more surprising that such a nice car was driving though a deep, dark forest. But there was probably magic involved, so Prompto didn't worry too much.
"So what are we going to do first?" Prompto asked.
"I dunno. Ignis is probably going to want us to do our homework first."
"Ignis?"
"Oh, he's uh, kind of like an advisor to me? I think that makes sense…"
"I think I get it. All that fancy noble stuff, you get a lot of people working for you, right?" Prompto asked.
Noctis nodded slightly. "Yeah that's a way to put it. I'd rather just relax though and goof off. I don't want to invite a friend over just to do homework with him."
Cor cleared his throat. "If you are going to avoid your studies, you should be discreet when sneaking through the manor. If you wish, I can distract Ignis until he realizes the ploy… which you know won't take him long."
Noctis smirked. "Thanks, Cor."
Prompto was surprised. He thought the big, tough, scary, vampire bodyguard wouldn't go for Noctis avoiding his studies. That came as a rather shocking, but pleasant, surprise. Maybe he wouldn't have to be too afraid of Cor after all.
The car eventually made another turn and Prompto looked out the window to see that they were coming to a clearing. Prompto gasped as he saw the large mansion come into view before his very eyes. He blinked a few times to make sure he was really seeing it before him.
It was just as large and magnificent as the rumors were. It was a mansion that looked to be about three or four stories, and already there were so many windows for different rooms. If this was just the front view of the house, Prompto could only imagine how big the rest of it was.
His heart raced with new and exciting thoughts about where he was about to step foot. He started to wonder what the smells were going to be like along with the sights themselves.
"Prompto?"
Prompto turned to look at Noctis. "Yeah?"
"Uh, your ears. They're back."
"Ah!" Prompto reached up to place his hands over them. "I-I guess I was getting a little too excited ha ha!"
Noctis laughed. "I bet if you weren't sitting, your tail would be wagging, right?"
Prompto pouted. "Nooooct."
"What? You don't need to hide your werewolf stuff. It's cool with me."
Prompto bit his lip. "But it's still embarrassing. I've always had good control, but it's just not my day."
"Guess that means I get to hang out with a puppy today."
Prompto puffed out his cheeks. "I'm not a puppy!"
"You aren't an adult either," Noctis snickered.
"But I am not a puppy. Puppies are like my littlest siblings!"
"Well what do you call a teenage werewolf?"
Prompto didn't answer, instead he only pouted further.
Noctis smiled as he opened his door now that they were parked. "I rest my case."
"I'll find a way to get back at you! Just you wait!" Prompto shouted before he stepped out of the car.
Now that he was out of the car he was able to properly take in all the scents of this new area. It was full of magic in every direction. He had never smelled so much magic before all in one place, not even in school with all the other witches and warlocks. This was something else entirely new and strange, and couldn't wait to explore everything that he could.
Though with that in mind, he turned to Noctis, rubbing the back of his head. "Also uh, Noct? I got a question."
"Yeah?" Noctis asked as he walked over.
"Do you think I could borrow a pair of scissors? I think… if I am going to keep getting excited like this, I should… you know."
Noctis nodded with a smile. He then held out his hand to Prompto. "Okay sure. Come on, let's head inside. We can sneak past Specs first and get you what you need."
Taking his hand, Prompto was led closer towards the mansion. He had tried his best to hold in his excitement and nervousness, but he knew that he wouldn't be able to hold it. He figured at this point it was better to just let it all out then try to contain it. Plus Noctis actually didn't mind his werewolf features peaking out, and that made him feel a little happier inside.
Building up the story in this little world I created. Hope you enjoyed! Let me know your thoughts! It's great hearing feedback! :D
