How to Make a Family

Loona sat and scowled at the TV, not paying any attention to what was on the screen, as Tilla walked into the living room.

"I don't have a guest room, so I hope the couch is comfortable enough." Tilla said as Loona scowled deeper at the screen. Suddenly, without a word, Loona got up and headed for the door.

"Where do you think you're going?" Tilla asked as she began to walk closer to the hellpup. Loona didn't bother looking at the imp woman as she grabbed the doorknob.

"Away from here." Loona said, her voice tinged with anger and hurt. Tilla however simply locked the chain latch which was much too high for Loona to reach, thus preventing her exit.

"Let me go! You don't want me here anymore than Blitz wants me!" Loona snapped as tears formed in her anger filled eyes. Tilla felt her heart twinge at the display and kneeled down next to Loona.

"Blitz wants you, I know him. He wouldn't take you in if he didn't plan on being there for you... Heh, even when you don't want him to be." Tilla smiled a bit, but all Loona could do was growl as she stomped back over to the couch and flopped down on it to glare at the ceiling.

"Yeah right... he just dumped me here because I'm too much trouble..." Loona said as she curled up into a ball and began sniffling.

"I just wanted to think... he might have really wanted to be my dad..." The hellpup sobbed out as Tilla went over to the couch and sat next to her.

"Blitz looked worried and scared, and I know he didn't want you to know he was, but he left you here because he felt it was safer. Any parent would do the same thing... well ideally." Tilla said as Loona looked at her, tears stinging her eyes.

"So you're saying he might really have just ditched me..." Loona said as she began a new wave of quiet sobs.

"No I mean..." Tilla stopped as she realized she had nothing she could tell her to help... or rather she didn't want to tell her one particular thing. However, at this moment a child felt abandoned by her parent and nothing was going to fix that, but perhaps... Tilla bit her lip as she decided to bite the bullet so to speak.

"I'm not Blitz's sister..." Tilla said as Loona looked back up at her, the sadness and anger replaced temporarily by confusion. Before she could ask what she meant, Tilla began speaking again.

"I was young... Just 14, almost 15. I met a boy and well... Pretty soon Blitz and Barbie were on the way. My father, well he... he didn't like me being a mother so young, so he decided to teach me a... lesson. Mom tried her best to fight him on it, but she was so afraid of him, and... so was I. He messed with the papers at the hospital and... far as anyone knew, Blitz and Barbie were my brother and sister. Then Mom died... and then things got worse until he died... but because I wasn't really in a stable place, they both got put in the system before I knew what happened. One day I come home and they're gone... It took me weeks to find them... and because the person in charge of adoption was a friend of my father's... I wasn't able to adopt them. I tried, I tried so hard to be there for them... and I wanted so much to just tell them I was their mother... to hold them, and..."

"Why didn't you?" Loona asked, as Tilla looked at her. The hellpup's tears had stopped, but now the imp's own tears began to flow.

"I was afraid... Afraid they'd be confused, afraid they'd hate me for keeping it from them so long, afraid... just afraid... But I still tried to be there and help... and in his own way... Blitz is trying to do the same for you... I know he'll be back... heh... he gets it from me." Tilla said as Loona was now sitting up, just... staring at her.

"Does... does this mean you're my grandma? I never had one before..." Loona trailed off as Tilla hugged her with one arm and smiled.

"I guess it does... But let's keep it at Aunt Tilla for now... Blitz has been trying so hard to get his life together that... I want him to focus on that." Tilla said as Loona returned the hug.

"But... You will tell him when he does get it together? Promise?" Loona asked as Tilla... smiled as she held the girl... no... her granddaughter.

"... I promise."
