Chapter 9
The alarms started screaming way too early for everyone sleeping. Struggling to get out of the blankets, Macey reached for the alarm, smacking it so it would stop ringing. She rolled out of bed, hitting the floor, and crawled over to Cammie. She smacked Cammie hard, causing her to flinch.
"Wake up Cammie," Macey whispered. "It's time for school," she said again.
"It is not time for school, it's five int he morning. School starts at eight," Cammie whispered back. She turned onto her side, ignoring Macey.
Macey rolled her eyes, and went to turn on the lights. She also prepared herself for the yelling and possible fight that was about to occur. She flicked the lights on, and was immediately greeted with groans. Bex even threw a pillow at her. Macey batted the pillow away, and pulled Bex out of the sheets. Bex hit the floor, springing up as soon as the impact landed. Macey pushed her to the shower, and Bex submitted, walking to the bathroom. The next victim was Liz, also pulled out of her blankets, and sent to go get her outfit ready. Unlike the others, Liz listened, knowing it would be over quicker if she just listened. She moved to the closet like a snail, opening the doors to reveal the packed closet. Liz was kind enough to get all four of the uniforms out, and then went to the bathroom to do her hair and makeup. Macey had woken Cammie up after "Five more minutes" was repeated at least 10 times. Cammie rolled out of bed, hitting the floor and continuing to lay there a couple seconds, before she picked herself up and got dressed.
"Macey, are you sure you ordered the right size uniform for all of us? These skirts seem rather short," Cammie said concernedly, picking at the length of material. It rose to her mid-thigh. "I mean, how are we supposed to fight in these without flashing people?"
"Oh Cammie, didn't you notice? There's built-in shorts. I knew that would be a problem, so I had them added in. You didn't put the skirt on yet so thats why you couldn't see the shorts silly," Macey replied, putting her own skirt on.
At this point, all four girls were in the bathroom, working on their hair and light makeup. Macey did all three girls' makeup, making sure the other two forced Cammie to stay still.
"Cam, you already have an admirer, so you need to look good okay?" Macey said, as she brushed product through Cammie's eyelashes. "This isn't going to hurt you, it will make your eyes pop, now stop trying to punch me before I mess up," she said, and lightly pushed Cam's shoulder.
"Who? Do you know something Macey? You have to tell me we're best friends!" Cammie said in a rapid fire succession. She saw Bex roll her eyes and look at Liz through her peripheral vision. "What was the Bex? What's going on?"
"Cam you can't be serious. You really don't know?" Bex asked, an incredulous look on her face. "I mean, even I picked it up and I really only talked to Grant."
"Oh my goodness, will you guys just tell me already? Cammie said. "I'm about to pull my hair out!"
The three voices chimed in in unison, shouting "Zach Goode!"
"Um, absolutely not," Cammie replied once she heard the name. "It's a no for me."
"Cammm, you saw him putting his arm around you and being all flirty. He likes you and you know it," Macey said, adding the finishing touches to her makeup. "All done!" We can go get breakfast now."
"No we can't. Explain what you mean and then we'll go," Cammie said stubbornly.
"Cam, we're just saying we think he likes you. That's it. Now can we please go? I'm hungry," Liz said, and walked to the door.
"Fine, we can. just double checking Macey, you ordered the skirts this short on purpose?" Cammie asked, fidgeting with hers as she walked towards the door.
"Maybe," Macey replied, and threw Cammie a wink. "It's good for our cover."
The four walked into their classmates' rooms, gathering into a group and walking towards the dinner hall.
As the fifteen girls walked into the hall ready to eat breakfast, it immediately went silent.
"You'd think this is the first time you boys have ever seen a girl," Cammie smirked. Bex high-fived her, and left the boys dumbfounded.
"I swear, it gets funnier every time," Bex whispered into Cammie's ear. Cammie nodded and laughed.
As they loaded food onto their trays, it didn't even look half as bad as they expected. It actually looked kind of good. (But don't tell Chef that)
The girls sat down at a table, and started to eat. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, eggs, and toast. While it wasn't Chef's usual waffle and pancake bar, it was still a good first day breakfast. Or it was a good breakfast, until four people walked over and dropped their trays on the table.
"Hi Gallagher Girl," Zach said, sitting besides Cammie.
"Is that never going to get old for you?" Cammie asked. "I mean, you could be talking about any of us." She rolled her eyes.
"But everyone knows I mean you. Right everyone?" Zach asked, slightly nudging Grant who sat beside him.
"Huh? Oh! Yeah, everyone knows," Grant said in response, shaking his head enthusiastically.
"Now Granty, it's not good to lie, especially to us," Cammie said, fluttering her eyelashes. "It's actually very very bad. So why don't you just tell the truth," she finished, smiling sweetly.
Grant nervously scratched his neck, trying to look for the correct words. He was about to say something when Zach covered his mouth with his hand.
"Maybe we shouldn't ask Grant questions this early in the morning. He tends to have no filter," Zach said, trying to sound convincing. Cammie rolled her eyes and continued eating.
"So Gallagher girl, what class do you have first," Zach asked, slinging his arm around her shoulder. "I have weapons first and I love weapons."
"Well, I have weapons too!" Bex added, earning a glare from Zach. "What? You said Gallagher girl, and I am a girl from Gallagher."
Zach threw his uneaten apple at her.
"What was that for?" Bex complained. "I didn't even deserve it."
"You know exactly what Baxter. Don't try to hide it," Zach said, shooting a death glare in her direction. "Anyway Cammie," he said, shooting a look at Bex, "Do you have weapons too?"
"Why yes, it just so happens I do," Cammie said, handing over her schedule for Zach to look at. He held her arm up to his eyes with surprising gentleness. Looking at all her classes, she could see the gears turning in his head as he tried to see if they shared more than one class. With each glance at her schedule, he seemed to become happier and happier.
"Guess what!" He exclaimed. Cammie raised her eyebrow and motioned for him to finish. "We have all the same classes!" Zach said, and high-fived himself.
"Wow, I just can't wait," Cammie said, being sarcastic. Zach heard her tone and his facial expression started to get sad.
"Do you really mean that?" he asked, puppy dog eyes starting to form. Cammie rolled her eyes and let out a breath.
"It was a joke Zach, I'm sure the classes will be fun as long as you're not annoying 24/7," Cammie answered, patting him on the back.
"Good luck with that one Cam," Preston snorted, finishing up his food. Zach punched him.
Just before the punch could happen again, the bell rang, signaling the passing period between their first class. Everyone got up, threw out their trays, and followed the boys' lead to Weapons, where their first class of the day would commence.
