Chapter 10

Cammie, Bex, Liz, and Macey followed the boys to Weapons, knowing that even though they might not be as good in this class, they would totally win in P&E. As Soloman always said, 'If you find yourself needing a gun, it's too late'. That's why the Gallagher Girls are so good at P&E, because we don't learn how to use weapons, we use our body as one. That and it's easy extra credit if you accidentally punch someone and it bruises. They walked down the long hallway which seemed to lead outside. As they walked, Cammie looked out at the windows, which were bulletproof. Handy, she thought to herself. Looking behind her, she saw the rest of the sophomore class trail behind, mingling with each other. The hallway ended with a solid looking wood door, which Zach held open for Cammie to walk through. He smiled at her, and followed behind. The door led out to an expanse of grassy fields. Liz recognized this space from where the helicopter touched down the night before their arrival. Elbowing Macey, she pointed out what looked like a gun range. Macey looked over, and looked back at Liz with a worried face. Most of the Gallagher Girls looked the same way, having never shot a gun before. The class finally reached the range, waiting together as a man walked over. He looked like an ex-Marine, but everyone knew he was most likely military-turned-spy. That's how most people got into the business. He introduced himself as Sergeant Davis.

"Attention! Today we will be firing our guns again. They will be government issued. I expect you all to be able to hit a target by the end of this lesson. Boys, you may help out one of our exchange students if they ask for help. Towards the end of class, I will come up to you. You will shoot your target. This is a pass or fail. I better not see any fails," He finished. After his speech, he led us to a locker which contained our guns. They were Beretta M9s, slightly out of date, but still usable. The Blackthorne students walked over and grabbed one each, checking the guns for anything wrong, then setting up to start shooting. The girls all looked at each other and shrugged, each thinking how hard could this be.

It turns out, it's really freaking hard. While some of the girls caught on and were able to start firing, Liz was having a hard time setting up. Grant noticed and whispered this to Jonas, then shoved him over to go help Liz. Jonas turned bright red, and Liz did too. Grant smiled to himself, then made eye contact with Bex and winked. Bex immediately turned around.
Meanwhile, Cammie and Zach were set up next to each other. Cammie still wasn't sure how to properly stand, so she watched Zach as he shot a few rounds into his target. He stood square, with his shoulders back and his legs spread to about shoulder-length. The recoil from the shot barely affected him, and he fired until he ran out of ammunition. Zach took off his safety glasses and headphones, and turned. He saw Cammie staring at him.

"Like what you see?" Zach asked, throwing a smirk her way.

"You wish," Cammie said, rolling her eyes. "I was just watching your stance so I can shoot correctly."

"Well allow me to help you with that," Zach replied, and came over to her. He positioned himself behind her. "Can you stand how you were before?" he asked. Cammie nodded, and moved into her position. Zach laughed. "Well that's why you weren't hitting your target. Your core is so loose, and you need to push your shoulders back." He reached his arm around her stomach, and lightly pushed into her ab muscles, causing them to contract. "You should always have your core engaged, it will help prevent recoil." Zach said. Listening, Cammie engaged her muscles. Next Zach pulled her shoulders back. "You want to have a square between your top and bottom half, so that when you shoot you'll stay in that square and hit your target. Now we have to fix your hand positioning," Zach added.

"What do you mean my hand positioning? It looks just fine to me," Cammie said defensively. Zach chuckled.

"Yeah, looks fine to the untrained eye. Even with what we just fixed, your hands will cause that gun to go flying if they look like that any longer Gallagher girl," Zach said. He wrapped his arms around her to grab the gun. "Let me know if I'm too close to you," he said in Cammie's ear. She nodded her head. "You have to put your dominant hand around the trigger, and your non-dominant hand wraps around the base. That way, you won't risk the gun flying out of control. Got it?" he asked. Cammie shook her head yes. "Well then don't wait for me, start shooting," Zach said. He headed back to his gap in the protective walls, and put his equipment back on. He smiled to Cammie, and winked. She rolled her eyes, but smiled back.

And then got a bulls-eye nine times in a row.

When Sergeant Davis came to inspect Cammie's shooting, she confidently showed him her skills. The sergeant nodded with approval, and Cammie knew she had gotten an A for the day. Zach saw the head nod, and nudged Cammie.

"Told ya," he whispered. "Was I right or was I right?"

"You were wrong. Now go put away your things because we have class and I don't want to be late," Cammie said, and nudged him back with a small smile. He stuck his tongue out and walked to put his equipment away. Cammie rejoined her other three friends, and elbowed Liz. "I noticed Jonas was helping you. Is there nerd love in the air?" Cammie asked while Liz turned red. Bex and Macey both turned their attention immediately, and questioned Liz on the subject. Liz fought her way out of the questioning by asking Cammie a question that made Macey stop walking.

"OH YEAH? Well what about you and Zach getting all cozy just now?" Liz partially shouted. Macey froze in place, slowly turning her head.

"You? And Zach? Getting cozy?" Macey asked, her eye starting to twitch.

"Oh my gosh, Mace, it wasn't anything like that. He was just helping fix my stance so I could hit my target. Your eye is twitching again by the way," Cammie responded.

"Cam didn't we tell you he liked you?" Macey said excitedly. "I told you so! Maybe he'll ask you out! That means I get to plan an outfit and do your makeup!"

"Macey I don't think he likes me. I think that's just his personality," Cammie said back. "And the way he acts, I just think his love language is touch." Cammie said that last part without thinking.

"Love language? Got anything you want to tell us Cam? Anything about, oh I don't know, LOVE?" Bex asked, trying to breathe through her laughter.

"Wow would you look at that! We're at our next class! Let's go sit down!" Cammie said, eager to stop being the spotlight. She sat down at the back of class, hoping for no one to sit near her so that she wouldn't have to talk. Her plan was going well, until she smelled a certain Blackthorne boys's cologne. She pretended like she didn't see or hear anything, and waited for class to start. As class started, she could feel the glances from her friends as they noticed Zach sitting with her. Cammie continued to ignore them, and it was all going well until she got passed a note. She didn't open it until she felt a kick, and looked over to see Zach looking around like something had happened. She rolled her eyes and opened the note.

'Are you ready to get smacked down in p&e Gallagher Girl'

Cammie wrote back: 'Don't get your hopes up. I hit the target every time today remember?'

Zach read the note and made a tsch noise. 'Yeah with my help. You can call me your knight in shining armor if you feel so inclined ;)'

Cammie had to stifle a giggle. 'Nice try. I would never.'

When Zach read this, he looked over at Cammie and made a sad face. She looked back at him and mouthed, 'Get over it'. This made Zach do puppy eyes, which Cammie laughed at. After this interaction, she tuned him out and payed attention to the professor, not Zach, who continued to kick her desk and try to catch her attention until the end of class, when everyone was leaving to go to p&e. As soon as the bell rang, Cammie shoved her papers into her bag and moved to go meet up with her friends, when an arm pulled her back.

"Why did you ignore me?" Zach whined. "I thought we were besties."

"Zach I was trying to pay attention to class because I don't want to fail," Cammie replied. "Now can you pretty please let go so that I can get to the locker room for p&e?"

"Why don't I just walk you there? OK? OK," Zach said and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. She tried to shrug it off, but he held on tight. She tried again and he just looked at her. "You're so difficult sometimes Cameron."

"Cameron! Who do you think you are?" Cammie said, turning to him with a look on her face.

"I'm Zach, who are you?" Zach asked with a goofy look on his face. She pushed him with her arm, and he looked at her with mock hurt. "That hurt so bad Cam. I think I'm going to have to go to the nurse," he said, pretending to wipe away tears.

"You'll live. I didn't even hit you that hard," Cammie said. "And would you look at that! We're at the locker rooms! I gotta go change! Bye bye!"

"Bye Gallagher Girl," Zach said, and walked in the other direction into the boys' locker room.

Cammie made it into the locker room and started to change into her p&e clothes with the other girls. Macey had bought them all Nike brand items, so they were comfortable and pretty. Each girl had Nike Pros with a different color sports bra. They were optimal for the intricate moves the girls learned during p&e. They were also cute, so that was a bonus. As Cammie laced up her sneakers, Bex came over and sat next to her and started talking about Grant. She wanted to know if he liked her or not, and was in the process of asking Cammie to ask Grant if he liked her when the girls started heading out to Blackthorne's gym. Cammie was tying her hair up as they walked in, and immediately all the boys' attention turned to the girls. However, one boy who was staring caught Cammie's attention in particular. When she made eye contact with him, he winked his bright green eyes and mouthed the words, "You look nice Gallagher Girl". Cammie was caught off-guard, which was shown by the blush starting to bloom across her face. She quickly shook her head and looked the other way.

The coach for the p&e class called all the students over to the center of the gym.

"Today we're going to be playing King of the Mat. Girls, if you need to tap out at anytime, just hit the floor three times and I'll the blow the whistle." At this, the girls just looked at each other and rolled their eyes. The coach continued, "Boys, the reigning King is Zach, let's see which one of you guys will beat him or if he holds his title!" Coach blew his whistle and started to pair off the group, going weakest to strongest. Liz and Jonas were first, and Liz seemed so calm. Jonas percepted this as, 'She has no idea what's about to happen to her,' and ran forward at full speed. Liz stepped aside, grabbed his arm, and judo flipped him into the ground hard. She watched him get knocked unconscious as his head smacked the floor of the mat.

Liz turned to look at Coach, who was gaping at his fallen student. "Should I still tap out? Or is it ok that I won?" Liz asked, smiling innocently. The coach just stared, and nodded for Liz to move on.

The fights progressed, each boy being beaten by a girl. At this point, the coach just looked dumbstruck. It was finally time for the final fight, which consisted of Cammie and Zach. The coach blew his whistle and the fight began. Zach started to circle Cammie looking for an unguarded spot. He spotted one near her shoulder and went for it, when out of nowhere Cammie's foot swung towards his head and knocked him down. He quickly shook his head to clear his mind and stood back up. He knocked Cammie down and straddled her, getting ready to pin her down and win the fight. She punched his stomach and then used her foot and momentum to flip him over so that she was straddling him.

She looked down at him, winked, and said "Wanna tap out now? It'll save you the embarrassment?"

Zach scoffed and said, "The only way you'd win is if I had both hands tied behind my back, and I clearly don't."

Cammie started to lean down towards Zach's face, a small smirk on her face. "From what I can see, you're about to lose in five seconds."

Zach's face morphed from amusement to shock to pain when Cammie suddenly stood up and kneed him where the sun doesn't shine.

"Told you!" she said, and blew him a kiss. "Is class dismissed Coach? I think all the girls won, and I'm the new King of the Mat. Right?"

"Yes you are. I'm sorry for misjudging you girls. I should have told the boys to tap out," he chuckled. "Have a good day ladies!"

Cammie and Bex walked back towards the locker room, drinking water from their water bottles. They heard heavy footfalls behind them and turned to look.

"Why didn't you guys tell us you were good at fighting? You set us up to fail," Grant said, looking disgruntled. "What was the reason?"

"Because we wanted to have an element of surprise that didn't revolve around us being girls," Bex replied.

Zach nodded his head understandably, and said "Well I'm just mad that I didn't win King of the Mat again. But if I had to lose to anyone, I'm glad it was you Cam." He lightly ruffled her hair and didn't even seem bothered when she swiped at his hand. They parted ways and went to their respective changing rooms. As the girls got redressed in their uniforms, a loud sound caught everyone's attention. Bex looked at Macey with a questioning glance and Macey just shrugged her shoulders in response. They finished getting dressed and went to look outside. What they saw made everyone freeze. There was a full-blown fight between two students going on. From what Cammie could see, it was just two boys fighting over something stupid. The taller boy let a final punch fly and got off the second boy. Cammie's mouth dropped open when she recognized the boy standing. It was Zach. She covered her mouth with her hand and let out a gasp. She gained back her senses after the initial shockwave hit and heard the final words Zach said.

"-don't ever say that about her again, do you hear me?" He yelled furiously. He made eye contact with Cammie, looked away, and walked to the infirmary to fix his hand which was bleeding form impact.
