CHAPTER ONE
Unaligned World of Battlestar Galactica 1978
Planet Kobol
Aboard TARDIS Designated Gavan's Glory II
Landed in the Tomb of the Ninth Lord of Kobol
Almost as soon as Gavan's Glory II completed rematerialization, the central control chamber shook with an unknown impact. "What was that?" William asked.
Zenon Kar checked her scanning display. "Minor impact from a Cylon hand blaster, William," she said. "Minor damage to outer plasmic shell. Repairs already underway."
"I'm gonna go outside and see if we're where we're supposed to be," William said. "Everyone, remain here."
William opened the door and saw that he was indeed in a tomb. In front of him were three people: a man and a woman in identical clothing—a brown overcoat and cream-yellow (to his eye) undersuit—and a gray-haired man in a blue outfit with silver trim.
Behind Gavan's Glory II, William could see the still form of what he knew to be a Cylon Centurion. He heard a voice. "Are you the owner of this object?" the younger man said.
"I am," William said. "We shall truly meet soon, Apollo, son of Adama. For now, please enjoy the time you have with Serina and Boxey. Your lives will soon change...in ways you will or can never imagine."
As William turned to reenter Gavan's Glory II, the older man spoke. "Hold, good Sire. Are you of the Thirteenth Tribe?" he asked. William poked his head back into the sight of the three people and smiled. "You shall soon see," William said before finishing stepping back into Gavan's Glory II's control chamber.
"Well?" Sofia asked. "We are in the right place, but I don't know about the time," William said.
"What do you mean?" Mal asked. "I remember Aunt Scarlett once telling me about this world and these events," William said. "However, from what Aunt Scarlett had told me, Serina-" William gestured to an image of the woman, who was just exiting the Ninth Lord's tomb. "-was supposed to have been killed during these events," he finished as the Ninth Lord's tomb became sealed once more.
"Then what happened to change everything?" Phineas asked. "Us arriving here at the exact time we did," Sofia said, realizing what William was implying. "That blast from the Cylon hand blaster that hit us..." "...was supposed to have hit Serina in the back, killing her," William finished.
Shaking his head, William turned to the engine controls and tapped a series of controls. "I'm setting course to rendezvous with the Tempest, which appears to be hiding behind Kobol's moon," William said.
Then, as William threw the engine enable levers forward, he shook his head. He had no idea what his accidental saving of Serina's life was about to bring for not just the away party on Gavan's Glory II or those on the Tempest, but for all of the Unaligned World of Battlestar Galactica 1978.
As soon as Gavan's Glory II rematerialized on the Tempest, William stepped onto the deck of the Tempest, still shaking his head. He was met by a female Turian who William knew to be Vetra Nyx, Pathfinder Ryder's chief scout.
Vetra saw William shaking his head. "Are you alright, King William?" she asked. "From what I know of human gestures and habits, the shaking of one's head means that something is wrong."
"I do not know yet, Vetra," William said. "All I know is that we may have opened up a Pandora's box of mission complications." William walked off.
William stood at the door to Pathfinder Ryder's cabin. Taking a breath, he knocked on the door. "Come in," Ryder said on the other side of the door.
William walked into Ryder's cabin and saw him and Cora talking. "King William? What brings you down here?" Cora said. "I need advice," William said, continuing by explaining to Ryder and Cora about what had happened in the Tomb of the Ninth Lord.
"I'm sure you were taught as a kid that all things happen for a reason," Cora said. "I was," William said. "Then understand that Serina has a part to play in the resolution of this situation," Ryder said. "We just have to wait and see what it is."
William sighed as his communicator went off. "Go ahead," William said. "William, we're picking up Colonial and Cylon weapons signatures 100 light years from our present position," Sofia said. "Prepare to launch Gavan's Glory II," William said to Ryder before leaving the cabin.
Once back in Gavan's Glory II's central control chamber, William took his place as Ryder's voice came on the comm. "Tempest to King William. Are you ready?" Ryder said. "Let's kick the tires and light the fires, Pathfinder," William said.
On the display he stood in front of, William watched as the landing/cargo bay door of the Tempest began to hiss open. "Gavan's Glory II, this is Grand Shield. Prepare to switch to Tactical Mode as soon as we are free and clear of the Tempest," William thought. "Standing by," Gavan's Glory II said in his mind.
As soon as Gavan's Glory II was clear of the Tempest, the schematic on William's display changed to note that Gavan's Glory II had engaged a battle mode that, originally, was intended for a very different robotic enemy.
"Tactical Mode sequence complete," Mal said. "Then set course for the coordinates of the Colonial and Cylon weapons signatures, full impulse," William said.
In the core command room aboard the Battlestar Galactica, Commander Adama watched as, on a nearby monitor, a pair of Viper starfighters destroyed a Cylon raider. Suddenly, a nearby officer got Adama's attention.
"Sir, we're picking up an unknown craft approaching the battle site," the officer said. "5,000 metrics and closing." "What does the warbook say about it, Athena?" the officer standing next to Adama said.
Lieutenant Athena turned back to her display. "Warbook reads it as unknown. Colonel," Athena said. "Confirmed it is not a Colonial design." "Could it be a Cylon design?" Adama asked.
The question was answered a few moments later when the unknown ship began to unload on every Cylon ship in its range. A few moments later, the remaining Cylon raiders streamed back towards its basestar.
"We're receiving a text message from the unknown vessel," Athena said. "'Requesting permission to come aboard the Galactica. We have a lot to discuss.'" "Inform the ship that permission is granted," Adama said. Then, to the officer standing next to him, Adama said, "Prepare a landing bay, Tigh."
Colonel Tigh nodded, then exited core command.
Back aboard Gavan's Glory II, Phineas reported from his console, "Incoming text message from the Galactica: 'Landing permission granted. A bay is being prepared. Further details to be transmitted in one millicenton.'"
"Ten minutes," William translated. "All right."
A few minutes later, William guided Gavan's Glory II into a landing bay on the Galactica. On his display, William saw the older man and the young man from the Tomb of the Ninth Lord. "Here we go," William said before snapping his fingers and making the door open.
Adama and his son, Captain Apollo, gasped when the door of the mysterious ship opened, and the young human they had met in the Tomb of the Ninth Lord of Kobol stepped out.
