BOOK THREE*CHAPTER FOUR
"I appreciate the offer, Your Majesty, but you need a trained warrior, not someone who is just starting out," the voice of Miguel Diaz said. "I understand, Miguel," William said. "Keep in touch." "You too," Miguel said. "Tell Tory I love her."
"Will do," William said before closing the channel. He then shook his head before turning to face Luther and Ethan. "He said no," William said in response to Luther's expression. "I have an idea, William," Zenon said. "Go ahead, Zee," William said.
"What do you know of the Nite Owls?" Zenon said. "The Mandalorian warrior sect from the World of Star Wars?" Mal said. "The same," Zenon said.
"Are you seriously suggesting a Nite Owl for the King's Hand?" Phineas asked Zenon. "The Nite Owls, according to my research, are some of the finest warriors in the known multi-verse," Zenon said. "And one of them just happens to owe me a favor."
And so, a few hours later, the voice of Gavan's Glory II came on in William's head. "Grand Shield, an individual is at the landing site, asking permission to come on board," it said. "She says she is here at the behest of Ensign Kar."
"Permission granted," William thought. The doors into the control room opened, revealing a feminine figure in blue and white battle armor. "Please remove your helmet so that we can verify your identity," William said in Mandalorian battle language.
"Very well," the figure responded in kind before removing its helmet to reveal a dark-skinned and brown-haired woman. "Koska! You came!" Zenon said before running to hug the woman. "Of course I had to come, Battle-Sister," the woman said.
Zenon and the woman turned to face William. "Koska, this is King William of Cinnabar," Zenon said. "William, this is Koska Reeves, member of the Nite Owls. When I was first grounded to Earth during the incident with Wyndham and Lutz, she saved my life."
"How?" William said. "After leaving Din Djarin following his giving Grogu to Luke Skywalker, we were leaving to resume our search for Moff Gideon," Koska said. "Somehow, I had gotten separated from Bo-Katan and Axe and found myself in an unfamiliar place."
"I saw Skythinker here-" Koska gestured to Zenon. "-about to be run over by a vehicle. I rushed to push her out of the way," Koska continued. "But, before I could thank her, she disappeared," Zenon said.
"Then, when we were in the Unaligned World of Star Trek, I ran into her on Starbase Yorktown—she was a crew member on one of the ships that Scarlett had sent to assist the Amidala, the Enterprises, Defiant and Voyager," Zenon continued. "During the party we had to honor the re-commissioning of the Ambassador as the Enterprise-A, I ran into Koska and recognized her. I asked her how she wound up on the ship, and she said that Queen Scarlett had recruited her and the other Nite Owls."
"Battle-Mother, whom you knew as Queen Scarlett, told us of the A.I.C. and of your mission, Battle-Father," Koska said. "That is why, when Battle-Sister Zenon informed me that your battle clan was in need of a new member, I agreed to come and join you."
Koska dropped to one knee. "I, Koska Reeves, sworn warrior of Clan Kryze, swear to serve Battle-Father William Edward III of Clan Felchenerow until the day of my death or until the day he releases me from this oath," she said.
Zenon, having read research files on Mandalorian rituals and customs, fell to one knee as well. "I, Battle-Sister Zenon, blood-daughter of Clan Kar, vouch for the bravery, loyalty and fidelity of Koska Reeves of Clan Kryze and vow to stand by her side throughout her battles," Zenon said.
William smiled at Zenon and Koska. "Then I, Battle-Father William Edward III of Clan Felchenerow, shall accept Koska Reeves of Clan Kryze and welcome her into my tribe..the King's Hand," William said. "Rise, Battle-Sister Koska."
"Yes, Battle-Father," Koska said before drawing herself back to her full height. "Now, heed my first order to you," William said. "In friendly company, such as now, you may address me or any other entity on this vessel by our given names. We shall present you with the same courtesy."
"As you wish...William," Koska said. "Zee, escort Koska to quarters so she can stow her gear then bring her back here for formal introductions and briefing on the new information provided by Agent Hunt," William said.
"Got ya, William. Follow me, Koska," Zenon said. Zenon led Koska out of the control room. William shot a smile at the members of the King's Hand in the control room.
A few minutes later, Zenon and Koska had joined William, Sofia, Luther and Ethan in the briefing room.. "Everyone, may I formally introduce Koska Reeves, the newest member of the King's Hand. She will take the place of Luther Stickell, who will be returning to full-time service with the I.M.F. upon the completion of this mission," William said. "Koska, these are Steve Evans, Jane, Uma, Tory Nichols and Poppy Blu. They will be your teammates in the King's Hand."
"Welcome, Koska," Uma said. "Thank you, Uma," Koska said. "I pray to Mandalore that he will bless this alliance." "I hope he does too," Jane said before extending her hand in a fist to the center of the table. The other members of the King's Hand did so too.
Finally, Koska extended her fist to the center of the table. As the members of the King's Hand sat back down, William gave Koska a salute like one Mandalorian would give another. Koska returned the salute.
"With that out of the way, we can begin the briefing," William said. "This is Ethan Hunt, agent with the I.M.F. and one-quarter of the Key from the Unaligned World of Mission: Impossible. Ethan, please explain to us all you and the I.M.F. know about the Syndicate."
"Sure, William," Ethan said. "Little is truly known about the Syndicate or its operative structure, but we can confirm that the hack that was carried out a few days ago on the U.S. military drone fleet had all the trappings of a typical Syndicate act."
"However, upon closer examination of the data provided by Agent Hunt, Sofia and I have concluded that the Syndicate is, indeed, another alias for the A.I.C.," William said. "Ethan, you need to go get the rest of your team and bring them back here to hear this."
"Got you," Ethan said. As he left the briefing room, William looked at Koska. "Koska, you're in for one heck of a ride," William said. "I'm sure I am," Koska said.
