For the first time in months, Jeremy spent his night at the Factory. Burning the midnight oil, Jeremy had the Supercomputer run diagnostics for any sign of activity while he checked for any signs of tampering. The security cameras turned up empty, as the Supercomputer's startup procedure resulted in a 15-minute window where no footage was recorded. Jeremy made a promise to Aelita that the trip was only meant to last a little past midnight, a promise that she made him keep for his health, but the fruitless results started to strain that promise. With another hour before the diagnostic scan would be complete and nothing that Jeremy could actively do, he decided to rest his eyes for a moment.
When he opened his eyes again, the scan was complete and revealed no signs of X.A.N.A. Frustrated, Jeremy stretched back in his chair, letting out a large yawn, trying to clear his head.
"There was no indication of X.A.N.A. being on Lyoko," he thought, "But what about the Digital Sea?"
Another command was inputted into the console. A few moments pass before the results woke Jeremy up. Replika after Replika popped up as the window darted across the Digital Sea. As dire as the situation was, he would have to wait for morning before breaking the news to everyone else. As he rode the lift, he checked his watch. The time was 6:00.
"Aelita's going to kill me."
It was a usual breakfast at the cafeteria. Gathered around at their own table sat Ulrich, William, Yumi, and a peeved Aelita.
"I don't know why you expected something different," explained Ulrich, "Jeremy had always stayed up late when we were fighting X.A.N.A."
"I know but he's been having insomnia since then," lamented Aelita, "He only started getting into a normal sleeping pattern last week and I don't want him to lose that."
"He's not going to be able to keep it if we have to deal with another X.A.N.A.," retorted Yumi, "Speaking of which."
Jeremy, with a face of internal panic, came to the table and sat down with the others.
"Morning, Jeremy," greeted Aelita, "Were you able to find anything on Lyoko?"
"Replikas."
"Replikas?" repeated Ulrich.
"A lot of Replikas. More Replikas than there ever were," Jeremy proceeded to take off his glasses and rub his eyes.
"So, … is X.A.N.A. back?" asked Aelita.
"As far as I can tell, there is no sign of him."
"So, then who's the one trying to kill us?" asked William.
"I don't know," lamented Jeremey in a soft whisper.
"Maybe one of the original owners could have retaken their lab and they were able to restore the Replika?" speculated Yumi.
"It has only been a few months since we shut the Supercomputer down. That situation would have to happen to every location X.A.N.A. used and then some for it to be possible to get that many."
"It seems to me that the only way we can find out what's going on, is to rebuild the Skid," Aelita concluded.
"It'll take me a month to build another one."
"Then all we can do is hold out," said Ulrich, "We've done it for two years. We can do it again."
Jeremy was not glad to have to go back to Lyoko's daunting workload, but he knew how necessary it was. As he buried his head onto the table, Aeltia patted his head.
Meanwhile, at another table, Urma was looking over a map of the Factory that was scribbled together, careful that no one notices. The map was labeled with all the noticeable landmarks she saw. The bridge and the elevator were drawn particularly small to accommodate the size of the overall facility, resulting in the map being mostly a blank page. As she continued to ponder about her investigation's method of approach, an uptight voice pikes up behind her.
"So, you're the new girl everyone's talking about."
Urma turned her head around to find a disgruntled Sissi staring her down. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Don't play dumb with me." The diva spouted as she closed the distance between their faces. "You're trying to snuff me out of the limelight as the most beautiful girl in Kadic."
The claims sounded somewhat farfetched. She may have had a few guys approached her. But it's not like that means anything. In the mere seconds of thought that Urma took to process Sissi's words, the drama queen's eyes glance at Urma's piece of paper.
"What you got there?"
"It's none of your business."
Sissi quickly grabbed the map as curiosity got the best of her. But before she could look at its contents, Sissi realized that she was given a ghastly, soul-burning death stare from Urma. Basic instincts kicked in as they told Sissi to run.
The stairwell echoed with Odd's stumbling footsteps. Slowly marching towards breakfast sloppily clothed, his groggy eyes squinted as he let out a strong yawn. As his sight remained blinded, the sound of the double door bursting open filled the corridor. Odd was only able to barely widen his eyelids before a blur and a breeze flew past him.
"Out of my way!" cried a startled Sissi as she faded away.
"What the?"
Now wide awake, looked around to find Urma running up the stairs. He quickly moves into her way to figure out the situation.
"Hey Urma, what's going on?"
Odd could not find out that she was exploring the factory and while Urma could not truly know what Sissi would do with the map, she could not take any chances.
"Odd, do you know where that girl went? Real drama queen. A bit delusional."
"Who? Sissi?"
"What's her dorm number?"
"326," blurted out the confused Odd, "What did Sissi d-"
Before Odd could finish his sentence, Urma sprinted past Odd towards the 3rd floor of the dorms. Odd, being a bit curious about the situation, decided to follow.
"Hey! Wait up."
Sissi slammed the door to her room shut as her lungs burned from the dash. Dropping to a slouch on the doorway, she unfolded the piece of paper to see what was so important. Was it a love letter, or something more intimate? Her unnatural curiosity turned to confusion as she examined its contents. It was nothing but scribbles.
At that moment, Sissi realized that she had wasted her time. She was being a bit too presumptuous about the new girl and it was probably a matter of time before her popularity died down. Just then a pounding beat pulsated through her door; a reminder of why she ran into her room.
"Open up right now!"
Accepting defeat, she slid, what was now to her, a weird slip of junk under the door.
"Look, I don't know what's so important about this, but let's just forget this happened. Okay?"
The sudden shift in tone was somewhat off-putting to Urma. But the drama queen's attitude was irrelevant, what was important was that she got her map back without Odd or his friends finding out. Confirming her relief, she unfolded the piece of paper to confirm that it was indeed the map.
"So, what do you got there?"
Urma immediately turned to see Odd behind her, "Were you following me?"
"I was just wondering what's got you going after Sissi."
"Oh, nothing. Just that my map of the factory was snatched up."
"The, what?"
Only one word ran through Urma's head: FUCK.
"So uuuuh. Who names their kid Sissi? Weird, right?"
"Sissi's just a nickname she gave herself. It's actually Elizabeth."
"Oh, wow. Elizabeth. Huh? I have an aunt named Elizabeth. Much nicer thou."
"I can still hear you, you know," an angry Sissi shouted as her room's door was swung open.
With an out given to her, Urma took that opportunity to eject from the conversation and avoid any questioning.
"As nice as all this was, I got to get to my English class real soon," Urma said as she quickly pointed at her sleeved covered wrist and backed away. As she ran off, Odd and Sissi were left to stew in the awkwardness that was left behind.
"What are you still doing here?" quipped Sissi.
With questions still lingering, Odd followed Urma's trail. Little did she know, Odd's first class of the day, coincidentally, was also English.
