Chapter 2:
Lucifer was swirling his scotch above his hand while he was lost in thoughts, thinking about the people that used to be his friends and how he was still running from it all. He hadn't found a place he could call home, the trust between him and humans was gone. At least that was what he thought because with this human it felt different. Why did he feel different? That's what he wanted to find out.
A silent groan brought him out of thought. He took the glass in his hand again and placed it on the table.
The sound of glass touching the table startled Tommy, who was waking up now, "Who is there?"
Tommy looked in the direction of where the sound came from but it was clear to Lucifer that something was seriously wrong. He didn't look straight at Lucifer.
"You are blind, aren't you?" Lucifer said, making himself known.
"Who are you? Where am I?" Tommy asked as it began to dawn that he couldn't tell that he was home.
"Don't worry, I am not here to hurt you. My name is Lucifer Morningstar and I pulled you out of the water." Lucifer said, "As for where you are, you are at your house. I suppose not being able to see is a new development?"
"I am at my house?" Tommy asked, a bit confused.
"Yes, where else would I have taken you?" Lucifer asked equally confused, "I don't have a home here, I am just traveling around to find a place again. I just happened to be on the bridge when your car took a dive."
"Maybe to the hospital," Tommy growled slightly. He didn't know what to think about the strange man in his house.
"Well, that was what I was thinking too. The only thing I ask is what you remember from last night?" Lucifer asked, trying to figure out who this man was, "Are you one of my siblings?"
"One of your siblings? What the hell are you talking about? Why would you think that?" Tommy asked, agitated. This man was crazy. At least Tommy thought this man was nuts.
"Just the fact that you felt that I teleported you out of the water, saying that mine was more comfortable than yours." Lucifer sighed deeply, "So I thought that you were one of my siblings."
"You can teleport? Are you one of the new team?" Tommy asked a bit cryptically.
Lucifer looked at the man like if he had grown a second head, "New to the team? What are you talking about? I was kicked into Hell eons ago. I clearly existed before Dad made you. So I am longer in the business than you are."
"What do you mean? I am an original here. Hell? Eons ago? I am not following you here." Tommy shook his head, his head still turned in the direction where Lucifer's voice came from, "That still doesn't answer the question of why you brought me home and not to the hospital."
Lucifer rolled his eyes, not that Tommy could see it but it was obvious in his voice. "I hate to tell you but what do you think would happen if the doctors would see that your blood wasn't human?"
Tommy was trained not to panic in any situation. Courtesy of his life as a Power Ranger, "I am human for as far as I know. Who do you think you are? The devil?"
"that is exactly who I am." Lucifer grinned, "The one and only devil."
Tommy huffed, "Isn't the devil supposed to be evil or something. Why would the devil of all beings save me out of the water?"
"I am not evil! I punish evil but clearly, that concept is too hard for humans to believe. Everyone thinks I am evil. I will no longer damn you with my presence. I think you can call a friend to look after you so you don't have to be afraid of ending up in Hell because of me." Lucifer said before he stood up.
He was about to walk to the door when a hand grabbed his wrist. Was it Tommy's training as a ranger, his martial arts, or the native American blood that ran through his veins but the man obviously didn't need his eyes to stop the devil from leaving.
"Please, don't leave. I didn't mean to offend you. The only thing I meant was that I crossed evil more than once and you are clearly not. I can sense a lot of hurt in your voice but no evil." Tommy said with a soft voice. Something about the presence of the devil made him feel safe like he never felt before.
"So you believe me and you are not afraid of me?" Lucifer asked with a slight hope in his voice. Tommy heard again the pain he was trying to hide.
Tommy shook his head in no, "I have no reason to be afraid of you. I mean you saved me from certain death. You stayed with me even though you didn't know a thing about me."
"You don't think that I am deceiving you or lying? You know I have been called the prince of lies before you know." Lucifer said, starting to get even more curious about this particular human.
"Please sit next to me," Tommy said instead of answering the man immediately, "That talks easier." Tommy made room to let the man sit next to him, "That way I know where you are while I am talking to you. To answer your question, I have sort of developed a radar for people who lie to me, so no, I don't think you are lying to me. Did you really mean that you wanted to take care of me?"
Lucifer sighed in defeat interest was too big for this human so he took a seat next to the man, "Yes, for some reason you captured my interest. I am drawn to you and want to help you for some odd reason, especially after everything I went through with my so-called friends."
"What happened?" Tommy asked obviously for some strange reason he cared for the man. This wasn't the first time he was drawn to a person. It happened to Kimberly too so he was still wary about everything he felt. That dear John letter was still something that was hurting him after all these years.
Lucifer sighed deeply. Tommy could sense about the way he took that breath that something terrible had happened, "I am sorry, Tommy. I don't really want to talk about it, not just yet anyway. Tell me Tommy if you are human like you say you are, how do you know what teleporting feels like?"
It was Tommy's turn to sigh, "I can't really talk about it. I made a vow once never to reveal certain things from my past. The only thing I can say is that it made me see what real evil is like."
Lucifer placed his hand on Tommy's shoulder. Tommy didn't flinch; it was like he knew it was going to happen. By the sound, the couch made while Lucifer moved, "I respect that vow and I won't pry any further. Do you want me to call a friend for you?" Lucifer was still sure that the man didn't want him here even though Tommy had stopped him.
"I would like to learn more about you, Lucifer. Do you mind staying with me? I mean you said it yourself you don't have a home to go to." Tommy asked, hoping he wasn't too forward.
"Not outside my trailer and my car. Do you really want me to stay?" Lucifer asked curiously. He could hardly believe it.
The former ranger nodded, "Yes, I would like that very much. I don't look like I am freaking out but to be honest I am scared about the fact that I lost my sight. Somehow your presence calms me down enough to stop my fear from winning the match between my emotions. Strange isn't it?"
"That's usually not the sort of emotion I am used to. Usually, when humans see the real side of me the ugly side of me becomes a trembling mess." Lucifer replied, "Others want to use my angelic side, or at least the way I look now."
Tommy thought about the time he had spent after Mesagog was defeated and lost his powers for the last time. He wanted to help others even without special powers, so he started to spend his free time in a care center for blind people. One of those teachers wanted to give him a feeling of what it was like to be blind and use his other senses. He learned how to feel, listen, and smell better than before. He wanted to understand the people he helped. Not knowing he was going to need it for himself.
"Can… can I touch your face to have an image of you?" Tommy asked a bit shyly.
Lucifer took Tommy's hand and placed it on his face, "I suppose it can't hurt to describe what you can't feel."
"Just your hair and eye color." Tommy smiled.
"Well, my hair is black, curly when not perfected like now and my eyes are dark brown most of the time anyway." Lucifer tried to help what he hoped was his new friend although his emotions were split between his attraction to the young man and what had happened in LA, which made him a bit wary.
"Most of the time?" Tommy asked curiously.
"Being the devil has certain perks like I can shift my eye color to red," Lucifer answered.
"Is that the only thing that shifts? I mean no horns or tail?" Tommy chuckled while he roamed his hand over every inch of Lucifer's face.
"Hollywood, they got it so wrong." Lucifer huffed in annoyance. "No horns, no tail, no hooves, and most importantly no bloody pitchfork."
This made Tommy laugh for the first time in a while now. Since his team was spread out in different schools, all going to college now. He was starting to feel lonely.
"Can you show me? I mean can I feel what it's like?" Tommy asked. He did hope he didn't cross the line with his question.
"I am not sure. I need to find the first human who reacts well at seeing, or feeling in your case, my ugly side for the very first time." Lucifer said with pain in his voice.
Whatever happened, it wasn't good. Tommy thought before he opened his mouth, "Then let me be the first."
Lucifer considered things for a moment before coming to a decision, "Maybe it's best that you get afraid or be disgusted by me now before we bond more. Maybe it will hurt less for me."
"I am pretty sure you will be surprised by my reaction to things of the unknown." Tommy smiled.
Lucifer let out a deep breath. Tommy could make out of it that the man in front of him was nervous.
"Alright, let's do this but only to prove you wrong." Lucifer sighed before shifting into his devil's face.
