Chapter 7:
The elevator's doors opened, Chloe saw the mirror version of Lucifer laying on the couch with a glass of vodka in his hand watching television.
"Miss Decker." The angel said with a grin that gave Chloe shivers over her whole body. Where Lucifer's smile was warm and charming, Michael's was cold and terrifying. His smile didn't reach his eyes like with his brother. This was enough to bring Chloe back from her dream that Lucifer had never left.
"Michael." Chloe staggered, trying to keep her cool.
"What an honor to see you here. Do you miss my brother so bad that you want to throw yourself to the one sharing his face?" Michael grinned.
"I told your brother once I would sleep with him when Hell freezes over, and that most certainly counts for you." Chloe was still drunk, so she had no stopping the words that came out of her mouth.
"Why are you here, then, if not to enjoy my company?" the angel asked curiously.
Chloe closed her eyes and sighed deeply, mostly to try and get the courage to ask him, "I am here to ask you for your help."
Michael looked confused at first. Before he started laughing loudly, "Why in the world would you ask me for help? Wait, don't tell me. The others didn't want to help your drunk ass, so I am your last resort. I am close, right? Now, what in Dad's name could I give you that the others didn't want you to give, besides sex with someone that looks like your lost love?"
"I want you to help me find Lucifer," Chloe said, pulling up a brave face.
"You want what?" Michael said in a serious tone, now shocked that she even had the courage of asking him this.
"I want to bring Lucifer back to Los Angeles, where he belongs," Chloe said, agitated now but keeping her cool, or at least she tried to.
"Why in Heaven's name would I help you with that?" Michael was getting equally agitated, "I have everything I ever wanted. My brother is gone, I have his money, all his possessions, and you are asking me to bring him back? You got a lot of nerves asking me that. I am finally happy that he is gone."
"Please, Michael. I just want to apologize to him. I want to ask him for forgiveness." Chloe begged the angel in front of her.
"Begging him for forgiveness? I see that you don't know my brother well. You got away with your attitude for a long time. He even forgave you for almost killing him, or did you think I didn't cheer for you in the Silver City for what you were about to do to him?" Michael grinned, "Look, you do what you want, but it will be without me but fair warning. If you do find him, my brother isn't the forgiving kind when furious. So don't get your hopes up."
"So you aren't going to help me?" Chloe asked just to be sure.
"What in Dad's name would let you think that I would?" Michael asked with a grin on his face, "I wish you all the luck in the world in your search, but no, I am not going to help you, so get lost."
Chloe sighed and turned around to walk inside the elevator to go back to the club. How in the world was she ever going to find him?
Once outside, she went to the store to buy another bottle of scotch. She chose that drink because it made her think about what she had lost and who she wanted to find more than anything in the world. The scent was so typical Lucifer.
She walked towards the beach. The bottle in her hand weaved through the sand until she found a secluded spot and seated herself against a large rock that still felt warm from the sun that had been heating it up all day long. The warmth was something else that made her think about Lucifer. If she was honest with herself, everything did. She opened the bottle and took a big gulp. Looking up at the stars. She remembered how proud Lucifer was of making those. He had told her that before things went downhill.
"Hey, are you okay?" A sudden soft female voice asked.
Chloe looked up and saw a young woman with brown eyes and caramel-colored hair. The woman wasn't tall and had a skinny waist. The same woman had a sort of sadness in her eyes. Her face was sunken in. She looked like she had been through Hell herself. Something about her gave Chloe a comforting feeling.
"Do you mind if I sit beside you?" The skinny woman asked gently.
"This beach is a public place, so I can't force you to leave," Chloe said before taking a big gulp.
"My name is Kimberly. What is yours? It talks easier that way." Kimberly stayed gently.
"I am Chloe."
"Well, Chloe, it's nice to meet you. What happened to you? Maybe we can help each other." Kimberly said carefully. From her own experience, she knew what Chloe was going through.
"How could you help me? You don't know anything about my situation." Chloe huffed.
"I went through more than you think. Why don't you tell me?" Kim kept trying.
"Well," Chloe sighed, "Someone ran from me, and it's only now that I realize that he is the best thing that could ever happen to me. I could have had him, could have the best life a woman could dream off with a loyal man, and I blew it big time. He left Los Angeles, and I don't even know where I need to search. I want to find him so badly."
"Doesn't someone else know where he is?" Kim asked curiously. It made her think about the biggest mistake she had made in her life. She didn't know where to find Tommy either. She also knew if she wanted to help Chloe, she had to make her stop drinking so much.
"Nobody is willing to help me find him, they can easily track him, but it's like it never happened. Everyone goes on with their lives." Chloe took another big gulp from her bottle until she had drunk the last drop. She threw the bottle in front of her, growling angrily.
"Tell me what would you do if he were standing here right now?" Kim wanted to know if helping her wasn't going to hurt the person in question.
"I would beg him for another chance, tell him how much he means to me, no matter what other people believe about him. Beg him for forgiveness." Chloe sobbed, "Tell him that I am not afraid of him anymore."
"Why would you be afraid of the man?" Kim was a bit shocked hearing this. Was he some kind of crime boss or something?"
"I heard stories about him, and instead of asking him what the truth behind it was, I decided to run away. I should have known that he wasn't like that at all." Chloe tried to be as vague as possible, she didn't want to risk the first person who listened to her side of the story thinking that she was a lunatic.
"I understand better what you are going through than you might think. I, too, pushed the best thing that ever happened to me away from me." Kim sighed, "Like you, I also want to find him and tell him how sorry I am even after all those years, hoping to get a second chance."
There hadn't been a day that Kim didn't think about Tommy and the stupid letter she had sent him. She never dared to look for him. She didn't even googled him or looked for him on Facebook. Not only that, but she had been afraid of what she was going to see, of finding a picture where he is happy with a wife that wasn't her or children that weren't theirs.
"Let's make a deal, you and I are going on a little road trip. We are both going to look for the man we pushed away. I will support you and help you on one condition." Kim said, "You drank your last drop of alcohol. Trust me, I know it's hard, I am an ex-drug addict."
"I don't have a problem. I can stop at any moment I want." Chloe responded a little defensively.
"Sure, you can prove it to me, and I will promise you that we won't stop until we found them." Kim smiled.
Chloe was silent for a moment. Her gut feeling was telling her to go for it, but she wasn't sure if she could trust it right now. On the other hand, who said she was going to keep that promise after she found the one she was looking for?
"What about when you find yours before mine?" Chloe asked skeptically.
"I made you a promise, and I am going to keep it. Maybe if everything goes as planned, Tommy can help us find him.
Chloe sighed again, this woman was the only one who was willing to help. "Alright, I don't have anything to be home for anyway. Why don't you sleep at my place, and we can start our journey?"
Kim nodded. She was going to find out more once Chloe was sobered up again, for now, she wasn't going to dig too deep to scare her away. What had led her to find this woman she didn't know? Perhaps it was because she recognized herself in Chloe. She was more than curious what kind of man this person was.
"Come on, why don't you show me the way? I'll drive." Kim smiled, pulled Chloe onto her feet with a lot of effort, falling down with her a couple of times. A drunk Chloe laughing like crazy.
"This is going to be a long walk to the car." Kim sighed to herself, but she found in Chloe exactly what she needed, someone who understood her, not knowing what exactly she was going to find at the end of the road. One thing she did know was she was going to enjoy every part of this trip, hopefully with a new friend for life.
