First (Family) Vacation

"WAKE UP, PAPA!"

Kyoya's eyes shot open at the scream, but he wasn't fast enough. A pained groan escaped him as Tamaki dive bombed his stomach, his little knees digging right under Kyoya's rib cage and forcing all the air out of his lungs. Giggling at the funny face his Papa was making, Tamaki carefully wiggled around until he slid to his father's side, cocooned by his right arm. Kyoya suppressed another groan as his internal organs slowly moved back into place.

Nuzzling against his Papa's side, Tamaki launched into excited babble. It was their last day on vacation, so it had to be the best one! A huge breakfast had just arrived at their door and he wanted to go to the beach later on and get some ice cream and, and, and! Kyoya hummed along, his eyelids fluttering shut as the warm bed tried pulling him back to sleep.

The bedroom door creaked open, accompanied by familiar giggling. The sound gets Kyoya to turn his head in that direction, grabbing his glasses from the bedside stand as he does so. He puts them on, and (F/n) is abruptly thrust into clarity. She's already dressed for the day in a pretty floral sundress, and a delicious smell is wafting from the newly opened door, probably the breakfast Tamaki was talking about earlier.

"Tama-chan, you should be nice to your father in the morning."

"I was nice!"

(F/n)'s (e/c) eyes narrowed playfully as she drifted over to the side of Kyoya's bed. "I heard the bed creak from the living room. Was that from jumping near your father, or on your father?"

Tamaki giggled and looked away. "I dunno…"

"I can answer that, if I may."

"Noo! Don't do it, Papa!" Tamaki sat up, trying to pull Kyoya's arm down.

(F/n) laughed again, leaning over to place a kiss on Kyoya's forehead, earning a pleased hum in return. "I suppose that makes you outvoted, Kyoya. Come on, Tama-chan. We can start eating while your Papa gets ready for the day."

"Okay!" Tamaki stands up on the bed with shaking legs, his arms stretched out for balance before he jumped over Kyoya's chest and into (F/n)'s arms. "C'mon, (L/n)-san, I'm really hungry!"

"I can tell."

The two continued talking as (F/n) carried Tamaki out of Kyoya's bedroom, shutting the door behind them. And just like that, quiet fell on Kyoya's ears. His limbs were still heavy from sleep, but he was feeling more energized by the minute.

Shutting his eyes, Kyoya listened to the faint sounds of clinking plates and excitable chatter from the room just beyond his bedroom. A warmth that had nothing to do with the balmy weather of the Canary Isles flooded Kyoya's chest as the sounds of domestic life filled his senses. It was the fourth morning that Kyoya had woken up to his son and girlfriend drifting into his bedroom to fetch him for breakfast, and so far Kyoya was sure he'd never come to tire of it.

After soaking in the moment for another second, he sat up and stretched. Today was their last vacation day, and they were going to make the most of it if Kyoya had anything to say about it. He quickly got ready for the day before joining his son and girlfriend in the dining area. Greeting them both properly with kisses to their temples before serving himself a plate and sitting on Tamaki's other side. He hadn't exaggerated the magnificence of breakfast… by much. It was definitely aesthetically pleasing as well as delicious.

"Papa?"

Kyoya paused with a strawberry in front of his mouth, looking over at Tamaki with his mouth comically frozen open, poised to eat the fruit. His son giggled before he glanced over at (F/n). She gave him an encouraging smile and a little nod. Ever the teacher.

Tamaki took a deep breath, looking down at his plate as he said, "I'm sorry for jumping on you, Papa. I didn' mean to hurt you."

Kyoya's heart melted into a puddle of goo. He quickly set the fruit down and leaned over to kiss the top of his son's head. "I forgive you, Tama-chan. Thank you for apologizing."

Like flicking a light switch, Tamaki's bubbly nature came right back. He beamed up at his father, eyes watery. "Really! Good! I love you, Papa!"

"I love you, too, Tama-chan."

"Yay!" Tamaki abruptly slid out of his chair, grabbing his plate and moving it over until it nearly overlapped Kyoya's own breakfast. Kyoya leaned back, amused as he watched his son climb into his lap before the young boy started eating again.

(F/n) gave a little coo, one of her hands on her cheek as she watched. Kyoya gave her a small smile, which she returned, before the two of them went back to eating as well. It was a little difficult to eat using his left hand, but Kyoya couldn't bring himself to mind.

*Time Skip*

Despite Tamaki's list of expectations for the day, the trio didn't really have any set plans other than to stay on one island for the day rather than venture out further. Actually, after three days of running around after his son and girlfriend, Kyoya would much rather just stay within their resort for the day. Unfortunately for him, he'd put off buying souvenir's until the last day. And while the Hitachiin's and the Morinozuka's could take their own trip to the Canary Isles, Kyoya knew better than most how long his friends could play the "remember when you didn't buy us such-and-such when you went on vacation" card. An unfortunately oversight on his part that he'd rather not repeat.

Thankfully, there was an outdoor shopping-mall area only a short bus ride from the resort, and the three were walking along the sidewalk within the hour. (F/n) was content to window-shop in between Kyoya tugging the two into a store to actually purchase something. Tamaki was somewhat less entertained, but he wasn't whining about it.

Yet.

As they went along, Kyoya kept a close eye on his watch so they didn't accidently miss lunch time. Missing lunch meant overshooting nap time, and that was the last thing Kyoya wanted to happen on their vacation. If he hadn't already bought Tamaki a number of gifts on their previous days of vacation, Kyoya would've been tempted to buy a small game or stuffed animal of some sort to keep Tamaki entertained while they continued to shop.

As it was, Tamaki seemed to be keeping himself entertained for the moment. He was walking in between Kyoya and (F/n), holding both of their hands as they moved down the sidewalk. He had come across a small stone a ways back and was playing "soccer" with himself, kicking the stone forward in time with his steps. Kyoya supposed it was better than Tamaki trying to climb up on everything he laid his eyes upon, but he continued to watch warily, worried his son might accidentally kick the rock at someone or trip over himself. Fortunately, neither of those things happened. Unfortunately, the next time Tamaki kicked it, the stone spiraled way off course and disappeared into the collection of rocks along the side of the walkway, out of reach.

Tamaki pouted and gave a soft whine, tugging at the hands in his grip.

Expecting his son wanting them to stop so he could fetch another stone, Kyoya sighed and looked down at him. "Yes, Tamaki? What is it?"

"It's hoooot, Papa!"

"Yes, it is."

"Can we get ice cream?"

Somewhat surprised, but at the same time not at all, Kyoya let out a hum as he checked his watch for the fiftieth time. They were nearing lunch time… perhaps he could convince Tamaki to eat a small lunch before they got ice cream?

"Ice cream for lunch does sound kind of nice," (F/n) hummed, giving Kyoya a small smile. "It really is hot out, today."

Kyoya winced at the excited gleam in his son's eye. "It's so unhealthy…"

"We're on vacation. Maybe… one unhealthy meal would be okay?"

Kyoya hesitated- wait. Did (F/n) just bat her eyelashes at him? He narrowed his eyes, but his girlfriend's expression was an innocent as ever. Almost too innocent. Her smile was all teeth and her head was tilted cutely to one side. At his feet, Tamaki's expression was just as endearing as he tugged on his father's hand.

"Please, Papa?"

He was outnumbered. In terms of numbers, cuteness, and sheer willpower. He had no option but to give in. Twenty five minutes later, the trio was lucky enough to find an empty booth for them to eat their treat together. Tamaki sat on one side of the booth with his cup of chocolate ice cream and sprinkles, and Kyoya and (F/n) sat across from him. Kyoya had decided against getting ice cream, not overly fond of the way the cold hurt his teeth, and was instead plucking at a plate of french fries with one hand, the other resting behind (F/n) along the top of the bench. (F/n) herself was tucked into his side, seemingly enjoying her treat.

Kyoya watched in amused silence as his son's face grew progressively messier, the multiple napkins tucked into the collar of his shirt saving his clothes from the same fate. He was beyond grateful that he'd seen (F/n) tucking the wet wipes into her purse before they left the hotel room that morning. Actually, Kyoya was grateful to have (F/n) along in general, whether or not she remembered how messy his son ate ice cream. Their whole trip so far had been so goddamn domestic Kyoya could drown in it, and that was just how he liked it, apparently.

With his son sitting across from him, and his girlfriend at his side, Kyoya couldn't think of anywhere else he'd rather be, or anyone he'd rather be with. He never wanted this vacation to end, which was weird for him. Usually, taking so much time off of work drove Kyoya mad with boredom, but that wasn't the case this time.

Feeling like his heart was about to burst, Kyoya turned his head and pressed a swift kiss to (F/n)'s cheek, startling her enough that jolted and stuck the tip of her nose into her ice cream. Kyoya and Tamaki burst out laughing, and after a moment, (F/n) did, too.

*Time Skip*

Like Kyoya had predicted, Tamaki had become rather sleepy right after eating. With the last remaining energy from the ice cream, the small boy managed to climb onto Kyoya's back and sling his arms around his father's neck before all the walking soothed him to sleep. (F/n) carefully slid a hat onto Tamaki to protect him from the sun, and that's how the rest of the afternoon went.

Hand in hand, Kyoya and (F/n) walked around outdoor galleries, book shops, and other quiet areas. They were tempted to walk along the beach, but knew Tamaki would never forgive them if he found out. An hour later, the two found a not-too-busy restaurant to eat a proper, late lunch. With Tamaki in his lap again, Kyoya held his son close as he and (F/n) quietly discussed packing and airplane plans for the next morning. They'd be leaving in the late morning, so maybe they'd have a chance to let Tamaki explore the beach for another hour if they went early enough? They had just come up with a plan when their waitress appeared at the side of their table.

"I'm sorry if this seems out of the blue, but your kid is really cute. Here." She presented them with a plastic toy in the shape of a dog, hanging off a keychain hook. "We're giving these out to little kids today, if you want it."

Kyoya smiled gently and took the gift, bowing as best as he could to the waitress while thanking her. It wasn't until he passed the toy to (F/n) for her to admire before putting away to surprise Tamaki with it later that he realized the waitress probably thought Tamaki was his and (F/n)'s biological kid.

Body now flushed with heat, Kyoya went back to eating even though his mind was on anything but food. Just like on their first day of vacation, when the hotel staff had referred to (F/n) as "Mrs. Ootori", Kyoya couldn't help but think of what that would be like. Being married to (F/n), having Tamaki call her "Maman", maybe a few more children joining him...

Kyoya shook his head, shooing the ideas away for now. They'd only been dating for a few months. This was way too soon for those kind of thoughts, no matter how right they seemed. There was still so much they had to learn about each other, and there was never a guarantee that they would stay together, either.

A sour feeling settled into the base of Kyoya's stomach and it stayed there right until they left the restaurant, Tamaki slowly waking up in his arms. Rubbing at his eyes and making soft, annoyed sounds in the back of his throat, Kyoya juggled his kid as he wiggled and stretched around. Honestly, Kyoya much prefered when his son was acting as a dead weight.

Noticing his struggles, (F/n) moved to stand in front of Kyoya and held her arms out. He hesitated for only a moment before passing Tamaki over, watching the two carefully in case Tamaki flipped himself out of (F/n)'s arms.

But he had nothing to worry about. Almost like magic, Kyoya's son immediately calmed in (F/n)'s arms, snuggling his face into her collarbone before blink his eyes open. With another yawn, he looked up at Kyoya and smiled.

"Morning, Papa."

"Actually, it's afternoon now, Tama-chan." Kyoya carefully brushed his son's bangs to the side. "Are you still sleepy?"

"Mhm." Tamaki wrapped his arms around (F/n)'s neck and sighed, closing his eyes once again.

(F/n) let out a breath of her own, one hand coming up to cradle the back of Tamaki's head. "Oh, that's too bad. See, we were thinking about going back to the hotel and changing so we could go back to the swim park, but if you're too tired maybe we should just pack for the plane ride tomorrow."

Tamaki's head perked up so fast he nearly hit (F/n)'s jaw. "No! Wait! I wanna go swimming! And I wanna go back to the beach! I want more sea shells to take home! Can we go now! Please? Pretty please?"

"Hmm… I dunno, you looked pretty tired. What do you say, Kyoya?"

Kyoya smiled, reaching over to wind his arm around (F/n)'s waist to lead her safely through the crowd. "I think Tama-chan has put up quite the argument. I suppose another trip to the swim park and the beach would be fun. We can pack tomorrow."

Okay, I have no idea how I did it, but somehow I managed to sit down and write all of this in one go. I know the break I took was way too long to be proper and a number of my readers have lost interest in this story or this fandom or fanfiction in general, and I'm sorry about that. If my old readers are still here, I hope I never take such a long break again. If it's only new readers, I hope you enjoy my story and I promise to take it more seriously as I go on.

See you next chapter!
