Chapter 6 Mission

"There is one main objective to complete. Without knowing what it is specifically; it must be accomplished for the state of everyone…"

I promised Stacy I would explain all of it to her when I came back to school. The question is when? Answer: I really don't know… I felt awful just leaving her with so many questions in mind. But first, I had to get those answers from Kit because even I was lost. She told me that she would just tell Ms. Mulherin that I went home feeling ill. To be honest, I did get to the base feeling like a truck just ran me over, so it wasn't a complete lie.

In the base, I find Kit working on a machine. "What's that?" I ask him and take a closer look. It's connected by a variety of colorful plastic wires that lead to the main computer.

"It's the portal," he says. "It's almost done."

"Oh, what for?"

"One of the solutions I could find is this; the war between the signers and the dark signers. Two worlds have collided by an unknown force. Your mission is to find out who has caused this and why."

"Well… That does explain The Shadow Drone, I guess, and his purple spider mark."

He nods and goes over to the keyboard. He types and a strange hum begins to come from the portal. A blue light develops within and spreads outward. "I'm still investigating how he came here."

"He just disappeared after I beat him," I mention. "So I couldn't even question him. He was like 'my boss would be happy for your sacrifice' and then poof."

My mom enters the main control room with a backpack in hand. "Here kiddo." She offers it to me. "Food and a few changes of clothes."

"Thanks… Am I going to be gone for long?" I wonder. "In and out mission kind of thing?"

Kit shakes his head. "No, the amount of energy this thing requires is ridiculous. I'm not sure when I'll be able to get it back and running again, once I teleport you there."

I turn to my mom. "Are you okay with me going?"

She nods. "Of course… Just be careful okay."

I smile. "Always." I turn back to Kit. "Alright, I'm ready."

Kit nods. "Give the signers a hand in their battles. I also programmed the watch with a few custom-made decks so you'll be set for any battles. You'll appear in New Domino City. You got to find Luna."

Luna… That's the girl I saw in that strange vision. I give Kit those details and he slowly nods understanding. "I see… Well, you know what she looks like, so it'll be much of an easier mission in finding her. I'll believe she'll be a huge help to you."

I nod understanding. "Alright then and after I find her?"

He grins. "You'll know what to do when you're there."

"Well, that helps me so much Kit," I sarcastically add and my mom laughs.

"I can't give you all the answers Kevin. What's the fun of that? Plus, you'll need to learn a few things and trust me, you'll be thanking me later."

"Alright, alright," I say, glancing at my mom who shrugs back.

"I hope I'm not gone too long," I point out, as Stacy comes to mind.

"Yes. I will work on the machine once you are gone. Colordium and earth materials don't mix well. But overall, Kevin, the decision to come back depends on you."

I put my backpack over my shoulder. "What do you mean by that?"

He glances at my mom and smiles. "It's good to be young. Well, time to go. The machine won't hold long."

Confused, I decided to let that go for now and shrug it off. "Let's do this then!"

My mom gives me a bear hug. "Go get them, kiddo."

Smiling, I hug her back tight as in it'll be the last time I may see her. Why does it feel like that?

"I will mom. Don't worry. I'll be back before you guys know it." Plus, Stacy deserves some answers. I glance back at my family one last time.

Before I step inside, Kit adds, "Kevin... Always believe in the heart of the cards."

No one's POV

The young twins watch the unconscious satellite, questions blaring through their minds.

"Shall we wake him?" The boy asks.

"I don't know," the girl says unsure. "Look at his mark on his cheek."

"What about it?"

"Remember the weirdo who used to clean the pool?" She reminds him. "When dad came home and saw that guy had a mark on his cheek, he fired him. Dad said that mark meant he was in the facility."

"So you think that this guy was in the facility too?" He concludes. "Cool."

"That's not cool, you dork. People who have been to the facility are bad."

"Well… Talk to his card's spirits and see what they have to say about him," he suggests. The girl places her hand on the guy's deck on the table and she closes her eyes. "Well?"

"They say that he is a very good person." She opens her eyes and looks at her brother. "They also say that he's very sad."

"I wonder what he is sad about." The guy opens his eyes. "Maybe he lost his dog or his hamster-"

"Shhh, he's waking up," she interrupts him.

The guy sees the twins and sits up. "Who are you?" he questions.

"We found you in the alley downstairs," the girl explains.

"You wrecked your bike." The boy adds.

"You wouldn't wake up."

"So we brought you up here."

"You're heavy…"

"My name is Leonard, but please call me Leo. This is my sister, Luna. We're twins in case you couldn't tell. Not identical twins, obviously. She's a she and I'm a he, but-"

The guy notices the deck on the table and he interrupts him by grabbing it.

"So, ah… Who are you mister? What's your name?"

"I have no idea…" He answers a bit lost.

Suddenly, Luna gasps and holds her left arm.

"What's wrong, Luna?" Leo asks, concerned.

She shakes her head and goes outside, with a worried Leo tailing behind. Just above their pool, a young boy appears and drops into the water. "Leo! We need to save him!" She exclaims seeing him floating in the water. "He's going to drown." She doesn't wait for another second longer. She takes off her pink short-sleeved jacket and her sneakers with black and pink markings and jumps into the water.

"Luna!" Leo does the same and jumps after her. Together, they get the unconscious boy and drag him out. The other guy comes outside and helps them get the boy out.

"What happened?" He asks.

"I don't know," Luna says. "He just appeared in the sky and dropped into the water. Will he be okay, mister?"

He nods checking his pulse. "Yeah, he's breathing." He grabs him into his arms. "I'll take him inside." He goes back.

"Luna, that was crazy!" Leo exclaims. He notices her holding her arm. "Does it sting like before?"

She slowly nods and grabs her things from the ground. "Yeah… It's him." The twins head back and they help the other guy dry up the boy. After they put the boy in the guest room all dried up, the twins quickly change their wet clothes. Leo suggests a duel to help the guy get his memories back, but Luna decides to take care of the boy in case he wakes up.

In the guest room, Luna sits on a chair beside the bed and once they are gone, she softly touches the boy's forehead. He's burning up, and that's when her mark begins to glow. She then notices a blue glow on the boy's left arm. She takes a look at it and sees a triangle with a quarter moon; inside the triangle with ends to the right. It's like hers, but her mark is an upside-down triangle with the quarter moon inside it. The ends point to the left. She looks at his deck belt on the desk and notices a faint glow illuminating one of them. It's like calling to her. She places her hand on top of the deck and suddenly her scene changes.

There's a small boy with his mom happily walking about. They just enjoyed a delicious cone of chocolate chip ice cream. "That was yummy, wasn't it?"

A small version of herself sees him suddenly stop. Small Luna was with her mom waiting in line to buy a hot dog. She then sees the boy frantically searching for something. She remembers watching him look around the park on the verge of crying.

"Honey, can you please throw this away?" Her mother asked distracting her. She gave small Luna a piece of paper. She nodded her head and goes throw the paper away. Though, on the edge of her vision, she noticed a brown card; half-covered by the trash can. She grabbed the card and takes a look at it. "Speed Warrior," she whispered to herself.

She then noticed the boy walk back to his mom in tears. "I can't find it, mommy." He hugged her tightly and begins to cry. Small Luna walked to them and softly spoke, "Is this yours?"

The little boy sniffed and turned to see his card. "Look, mommy, she found my 'Speed Warrior'!" He exclaimed and grabbed his card back. "Thank you." He took her in a soft hug. Luna's mom walked up to them, witnessing the scene, and smiled at the boy's mom. She happily nodded.

The scene begins to blur and Luna feels herself being shaken awake.

"Luna. Luna." She opens her eyes to her brother with a big smile. "Come on lazybutt; he remembered who he is."

Luna sits up noticing that she fell asleep on the edge of the bed and yawns. She sees that both of their marks are gone. It's him, but who is he again? She wonders trying to remember.

"Let's go ask him for his name!" He suggests excited, grabbing Luna by the arm. The twins head to the living room to where the other guy is.

"So hum… are you going to tell us who you are?" Leo asks.

"I'm not sure that's a good idea," he suggests turning to leave.

"Oh, come on. Pleaseee…" Leo pleads.

He turns to them and points at his yellow mark on his cheek. "You see this marker. Trust me, the less you know about me, the safer you'll be."

"Okay, but if I don't know who you are, then how can I be your friend?"

"I think that's kind of the point, Leo," Luna tells him with her arms behind her back. "He's saying that he can't be our friend."

"Yes, he can," he counteracts with a fist up.

"At least crash with us for the night, mister. It's getting late," Luna offers with a smile.

"Oh! That would be awesome!" Leo exclaims excitedly. "And then maybe in the morning, you could tell us who you are."

"Leo!" She yells at him.

"What?"

The night begins to fall and the twins head to bed. Though, the guy decides to help them out for helping him out. He grabs their duel disks from the living room closest and fixes them up so they don't fall off from their arms again. During his remembrance duel with Leo, he noticed how his duel disk kept slipping off from his arm.

What he wondered was who the boy was and why he hadn't woken yet. He couldn't stay to find out. So after finishing up, he grabs his duel runner from the hallway and heads to the elevator.

I hate to duel and dash, you two, but it's for your own good. If I stick around here, you'll only get into trouble. Besides, the boy is in good hands.

Meanwhile, Luna lays awake in her bed, hugging her teddy bear. She wonders if the boy that's unconscious is the boy from her dreams. It has to be… She looks at her arm where the mark used to be. He has the same mark as me. Well… not the same one, but very similar. Hopefully, tomorrow, he wakes up.

The next morning, Leo finds out the mysterious guy is nowhere to be found. "He's gone." He frantically begins searching for him. "No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No!"

"Tooth fairy forgot you again." Luna comments, coming down the stairs. She rubs her eyes.

"Luna!" Leo goes to her. "He took his runner and left."

"Well, did he leave a note or something?" she asks.

"No!"

"Huh…" Luna notices the duel disks on the table and walks to them, while Leo begins complaining.

"This is all your fault. You should have been nicer. He was going to teach me to be the best duelist-"

"Will you calm down," she orders, grabbing her pink duel disk. "Look at these."

"Oh..." Leo grabs his blue duel disk. "What did he do to them?" He easily straps it on his left arm. "It fits now. How does it look, Luna?"

She examines hers with a careful eye. "Pretty good. Now, I just wish we knew who he was, so we could thank him."

"Well, it is his own fault for not telling us his name," Leo points out. "I mean he had amnesia. We helped him out. If he wanted a thank you, he would have stayed."

"I guess so, but why no goodbye? Maybe he wanders the city streets and helps out struggling duelists. Kind of like a knight in shining armor, but with a deck." Luna suggests.

"A knight? Sounds more like a superhero," Leo disagrees, "And his name is a big secret."

"Hmmm…"

The monitor on the wall begins to ring and Leo runs to answer it. A brown-haired boy with glasses appears. He smiles.

"What's up, my main man?"

"Dexter, get this. Some guy-"

"Pause. There's no time for that. I got us a lead."

"A lead?" Leo questions, confused.

"Duh, The Black Rose," Dexter reminds him.

"Come on, Dex. The Black Rose is just some urban legend."

Luna feels a tingle on her arm where her mark lies. She stays quiet.

"No, the black rose is no legend. She is the most amazing duelist ever. Her cards come alive. I know where she is and I rebuild my deck to take her on." He shows them his cards scattering them in his hand.

"So where is she, Dexter?" Leo asks.

"I was scanning some blogs earlier this morning and check this out; there's some rumor going around saying that she's going to pop up on the streets today."

"Then let's go!" Leo exclaims showing off his duel disk.

"Leo!" Dexter moves his glasses up his face. "How come your duel disk isn't falling off anymore?"

"Right. So this superhero stops by and-

"He's not a superhero, Dexter," Luna interrupts. "He's a knight."

Leo groans.

"What are you two talking about? Who fixed up your duel disk?" He questions even more curious now.

"Okay. This guy's duel runner is red and-"

Luna gasps. "Leo," and grabs her brother by the shoulder; getting in front of him. She whispers, "Until we know more about this guy. Maybe we should keep this between us."

"Okay good point," he agrees.

"Hey! What's going on?" Dexter asks.

Luna laughs turning to him. "Nothing." She crosses her fingers together. "We were just discussing how much we really like your bow tie. Listen, we got to go now. See ya." And she pushes the red button below the screen hanging up the call.

"Listen, this is our secret." She tells Leo now more seriously.

"Mhhh." Leo agrees and holds up his duel disk. "Luna, do you think Mr. Amnesia man flies or has a jetpack?"

"Oh, Leo…" She shakes her head and begins to go.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm going to see if that boy has woken up yet."

And he hasn't. Leo decides to get ready to go with Dexter and see if all the rumors about The Black Rose are true. Luna stays behind just in case the boy wakes up. After her brother leaves, Luna decides to check the boy's temperature to see if it has gone down since last night, and when she touches his forehead, their blue marks glow again. The same deck illuminates, calling her once more. Without a second thought, she touches it and her scene changes to a crowded airport.

She knows this airport. This is New Domino City's Airport, where she went a couple of times to go meet up with her dad; before he and her mom began those long business trips.

She spots her small self-huddled in a corner. She remembers getting lost in the crowd and not knowing where to go. That's when the small boy from before found her scared and confused. "Look, dad. It's that girl who found my card."

He rushed to small Luna with his dad in hand. He was a young man with black smooth hair and black round glasses. "Hey, wait up little man." His dad laughed.

"Hey, hum… Hi," he shyly began. He then noticed her tears and for some reason, it hurt him so much seeing them. "What's wrong?"

"I lost my daddy," She whispered. "Could you help me find him please?"

The boy looked at his dad. "She lost her dad. Don't worry, my dad and I will protect you and help you find him."

Luna remembered him saying that with a lot of confidence. "Right dad?"

He nodded, with a big smile. "Of course."

"Do you like dueling?" The boy suddenly asked.

Small Luna smiled. "Yes. I like those small cute monsters."

The boy offered her his hand and Luna remembers feeling the warmth inside of her.

"Then how about I take you two to the 'Kid's Pizza and Duels Shop'," the boy's dad offered. "They have a lot of cool things in there and I'm sure your dad will find you there soon enough."

Luna remembers the blast that they had. Of course, the boy's dad was right. A while later, her dad found her having a duel with the small boy. He was so scared of losing his daughter.

"I'm alright daddy," small Luna reassured him. "Thanks to my friend, I'm safe. He protected me."

The scene blurs and Luna wakes up to the boy's confused face.

"Hi. Hum… Sorry, I woke you up," he apologizes.

Luna yawns and stretches her arms. "I fell asleep again."

"Yeah, and you were drooling it seems." He laughs and she smiles. "Sorry, Luna."

She raises her eyebrows. "You know who I am?"

He nods and looks at his mark. "But this is new…"

"Does it sting for you too?" She asks him, curiously.

"A bit."

Luna shows him her mark.

"You also have it…"

"Yeah, but mine doesn't hurt anymore," She tells him. She decides to try something. "Can I… Hum. Can you show me your hand?" He nods and she reaches for it. Upon contact, their marks begin to glow brightly. He's a bit surprised and Luna asks him, "What's your name?" I have to be sure it's him. My Friend… My protector.

He doesn't speak for a few seconds. "I…I... I don't remember."
