Chapter 8 Welcome to The Fortune Cup

"Confusion births questions. Those questions challenge time and expand the courses of life itself."

{Let's Rev it up with Yugioh Kevin's 6th Grade Life}

Luna: "What's your name?" I have to be sure it's him. My Friend… My protector.

Kevin: I don't remember…

Let's duel!

Kevin: "It's back."

Luna: "Maybe it has something to do with you and your memories."

Kevin: I know this card. "I summon 'Speed Warrior'!"

"Luna! Do you want to stop this duel?"

Luna: "No, it's okay. Let's continue. Please."

Kevin: "My name is Kevin. We were at the airport and you got lost. But my dad and I helped you. So we had a fun duel and you beat me."

Luna: "You remembered!"

Kevin: "What's this?"

Luna: "It's an invitation to The Fortune Cup. I was invited to participate. Leo is going to take my place."

Leo: "Luna! You won't believe who we saw. The Black Rose Witch!"

"What if we duel, Kevin? I'll help you remember who you are."

Luna: "No, Leo. He needs to rest."

Leo: "Alright, but soon we'll have a fun duel."

The human is no threat to me. I am Black, Eternal Darkness, who can help you break the balance between worlds. I can give you unlimited power.

"I. Am. Chaos."

No One's POV

"Well? Whaddoyou think? How do I look, guys?"

Inside the Kaibadome, Leo has just finished putting up his hair in a perfect facsimile of Luna's forward-falling pigtails. His lipstick and blush are already on. Leo's also wearing a red shirt and sneakers instead of his usual blue. Kevin is beside Luna who is wearing a heavy coat to disguise her appearance. Mr. Amnesia man and his friends are also with them.

"Leo, you're as good a Luna as Luna is," an old man, one of Mr. Amnesia man's friends, tells him.

"Yahoo!" Leo exclaims excitedly. Luna kicks him in the chin.

"Don't embarrass me!"

"C'mon Luna, just chill out. I'm about to make you a dueling legend." He walks to stand with the mysterious man. "Whaddaya say, Mister Amnesia Man, ready?"

The two of them start walking away from the others down the hall. Leo's holding his hands primly at his sides, trying to act girly.

"Yep, but I think the makeup should go," he suggests.

"Okay, but only if you tell me your name."

"You'll find out soon enough."

"Somehow, Leo does look like you, Luna," Kevin points out to her.

She shakes her head. "I should have participated after all."

"So, you're a friend of Luna and Leo?" A tall blue spiky-haired man asks, holding out his hand. "I'm Tanner. This is Yanagi." He addresses the old man.

Kevin accepts his handshake. "I'm Kevin. Nice to meet you."

A kid in the glasses speaks up. "I'm Dexter, Luna's friend, and Leo's partner in crime."

Kevin smiles looking at who he just met.

"Are you a duelist, little bud?" Tanner asks him.

"Yeah…"

"Maybe later, we can have a fun duel, what you say?" He suggests.

"Ohhhh, you are going to have loads of fun, Kevin. Tanner here is an amazing duelist,"
Yanagi compliments.

Kevin smiles and glances at Luna who smiles back.

"We should go. The ceremony is about to start," Dexter interrupts.

"I swear if Leo makes fun of me, I will hit him," Luna threatens.

The crazy announcer in the pink begins, "Duelists, young and old, professional and amateur alike, put your hands together for our master of ceremonies, Director Rex Goodwin!"

A tall man takes a seat behind a podium embossed with the same design as on his shirt under his coat. Cheerleaders below exclaim, "R! E! X! Ahhh!"

Over in the stands, Kevin raises his eyebrows and starts to breathe quickly. "That man...:" His vision blurs and it changes to a scene. He sees duelists; four of them to be exact, all similar-looking to one another.

Rex Goodwin stands above a platform. "If you think you can escape, think again. I won't let you reveal all my hard work. You are going to have to deal with all of your selves if you want to leave."

"Kevin, what's wrong?" Luna's sweet voice snaps him out of it. He notices her holding his hand. "You gasped and spaced out."

He nods slowly. "Nothing… It's just, I think I know him."

"You mean Rex Goodwin?"

Kevin nods. "Yeah…"

"What did you remember?"

He closes his eyes trying to grasp at the memory.

"Hey, don't force yourself to remember. If you can't now, don't worry. You will remember as time passes."

Kevin smiles at her and squeezes her hand softly.

A sudden strong wind blows and grows to a small tornado in mid-air, then reveals a big red dragon. That's the dragon from the picture, Kevin thinks.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Red Dragon Archfiend has taken to the skies! You know what that means!" The Announcer exclaims. A duelist in a duel runner appears from an arena entrance and races into the track. "Let's hear it for the reigning champion, the King of cards, the man who rules the duels, the master of faster himself, Jack Atlas!"

"Woah, that's him," Kevin says surprised. "Whoever wins gets to face him."

Red Dragon Archfiend lands on the raised platform at the center of the arena, on one knee. Jack zooms up onto the bowled side of the track, off the top, rolls over in midair, and lands, skidding slightly in front of the dragon. He takes off his helmet and looks out at the roaring crowd with a genuine small smile. He raises a finger to point to the sky, standing proudly, and begins, "New Domino City! What say we kick this tournament- into overdrive! Let's get this started!"

The Announcer continues, "It's time we meet the lucky duelists who are selected to compete for the chance to go head-on with mister Atlas. The Fortune Eight!" Two panels open up on the arena floor and two elevators emerge, bringing four duelists up on each elevator to the stage level.

Among the eight duelists is Leo. He squirts in the bright sunlight and exclaims, "Here we go! This is it! Look at all the people!"

"Now, let's hear it for- the always mysterious Shira!" The Announcer introduces the man in a dark cloak with bright orange flames.

"The Great Greiger!" That's a tall black man in khakis and a leather top that bares his incredible muscles.

"Commander Koda!" The man in a grey suit, who has a wacky hairdo.

"The Professor!" A man in a robe with a Chinese-style collar.

"Miss Akiza Izinski!"

Kevin's vision blurs again and he clearly sees a red-hair young woman smile at him.

Luna notices him close his eyes again. She softly squeezes his hand.

"Sir Ransborg." That's a man in classical bronze armor.

"The lovely Miss Luna!" Leo raises his fist and smiles. Luna sighs and this time, Kevin squeezes her hand. He gives her a soft smile.

"And Yusei Fudo!" That's the mysterious young man who Leo and Luna found a while back. In the stands, there's some commotion about this.

"Hey dude, that guy has a mark!"

"Yeah, totally!"

"What's a satellite doing here?"

"Who is that lowlife!"

A person besides Tanner also comments, "I'll betcha anything he took someone's invitation." Tanner tries to ignore him, but Yanagi starts to get nervous as the whole crowd around them starts buzzing with unfriendly chatter.

"What's going on?" Kevin asks, confused.

"Here, in New Domino, people who are marked aren't taken so well," Dexter explains from 2 seats away. "If you are marked like Yusei, Tanner, and Yanagi, you're from the Satellite and you mostly were in the facility."

"Oh." Kevin looks down towards Yusei. He has his eyes closed and appears to be trying to ignore the unfriendly attention of the crowd.

Leo looks a bit deflated at the crowd's reaction. "Huh, so you are Yusei?"

"Yep, now don't wear it out," he answers with a small smile.

The crowd begins to raise a chant of "Who's the loser! Who's the loser!" Shira grits his teeth beneath his hood and Sir Ransborg glances nervously at Goodwin, who seems to be quietly tolerating the situation.

"Ah-Uh-Uh." The announcer is frantically at a loss.

"Gimme that," Greiger grabs the announcer's handheld mic out of his hand and addresses the crowd. "I know things are different in this city, but where I come from, you judge a guy on his spirit." He points at Yusei. "This kid right here may have been branded by your people as a no-good, but when I look at him, all I see is a duelist. And being a duelist myself, that means I have to respect him until he gives me a reason not to. Because a duelist doesn't judge another duelist based on where he comes from or who his family is or how much money he has! That isn't what really matters."

Kevin's taken by his speech. "Woah!"

Goodwin is the first to clap and shortly after, the audience follows his lead. Greiger makes a small bow to the MC's dais and stalks back to his place in line, slapping the mic into the grateful announcer's hand as he goes. "Here's your mic."

"Uh, thank you…"

Goodwin stands and speaks, "Thank you for those well-chosen and heartfelt words. In our world, social status and personal wealth draw a line between ourselves and our fellow men. But I had a vision of a duel tournament that would if only for a fleeting while, remove that line. A tournament separate from the competition of life! Where the haves and have-nots could meet each other on a level playing field, and prove themselves to each other and to the world! Fellow duelists, welcome to the Fortune Cup!"

The crowd burst into cheers. Screens around begin to show a bracket in which the picture of each branch is shuffling rapidly through images of the eight duelists. "And now, the bracket-shuffler is deciding the matches." The Announcer explains.

"Look, I'm dueling Greiger in the very first duel!" Leo exclaims excitedly and looks over to his opponent. He sees him scrutinizing him too and he looks away.

"I can't believe Leo's going to duel first," Kevin says to Luna.

"Yeah… I just hope he doesn't embarrass me."

"Oh, don't worry Luna," Dexter says. "The worse Leo can do is lose the duel."

Tanner looks over to them and notices Kevin and Luna holding hands. He smiles. "Leo's got this. As Yusei said to me, you got to analyze your opponents. I bet you that's what he is telling him right now."

"I'm going to the restroom before it starts," Kevin says letting go of Luna's hand. He stands. "Dexter, want to go with me?" He's surprised by the sudden invitation, but he nods, accepting, and they leave.

For a few minutes, Luna watches the cheerleaders dance. She then looks at her hand feeling it cold, but then she remembers Kevin's hand and the warmth he would give her when their fingers crossed together.

"So, Luna… You and Kevin?" Tanner suddenly calls her. "You two seem very close. What's the story there?"

She blushes. "I don't know… It just feels right and it's strange because I did it without another thought in mind. When his hand is in mine, there's a very comforting warmth that helps me calm down. I really feel like it's the right thing to do with him."

"Is he your boyfriend Luna?" Yanagi asks her.

She shakes her head. "I don't know. I mean, well would you guys believe me if I said that I just officially met him yesterday?"

"Really?" Tanner asks, surprised. "So how are you two so closed?"

"That's the thing. I just… I don't know. I feel safe when I'm close to him. It's like we have a mutual relationship." Luna looks at her hand and smiles. "He doesn't remember who he is exactly. He just landed on our pool one night, and just yesterday, I helped him remember his name. I met him when he was little. Two times actually. One was at a park when he lost his card and the other time, at an airport where I got lost. He found me, and he protected me until my dad found me."

"Interesting," Tanner says. "You said you just helped him remember his name?"

She nods. "Yesterday, we had a duel, which helped him remember those two times we met and his name."

"So, he has amnesia. Maybe if he keeps dueling, he'll start to remember who he is and where he is from. But, you said he landed in your pool; how?"

"He just appeared… Leo and I were in our living room when I felt this pain in my arm. I don't know how but I knew he was coming. So I ran outside and saw him appear," Luna explains.

"What do you think old man," Tanner asks Yanagi.

"I can't put my finger on it. It sounds familiar, but it can't be part of the Crimson Dragon Prophecy."

"The Crimson what?" Luna questions confused.

The stadium begins to darken.

"The match is about to begin. We'll talk later, alright Luna?"

She nods. "Alright."

"And now, coming to us from the tops…" The announcer begins. Leo enters the arena via an elevator platform, looking around excitedly. "A precious half-pint bundle of wonder, little miss Luna!"

"Oh, wow. This is incredible!"

Greiger also enters the arena. This time, his expression is much calmer.

"Hoping to take her down, the wall of wallop, the tower of power, Greiger!" Some lights around the stadium turn on. "Alright children, play nice. Let's shake those hands." They do.

"That was really cool the way you just grabbed that mic and defended my friend. I want you to know it's a big-time honor to be dueling you today, Mister Greiger," Leo tells him.

"If I say so, miss Luna, you have a quite strong grip for a young lady," he points out.

"Haha, that's funny cause everyone at school calls me a tomboy, Leo says panicking. "Did I mention I was a cheerleader?" He unconvincingly fakes a cheerleader pose.

"I do NOT act like that!" Luna fumes out. She then frowns looking around. Where are you?

Kevin's POV

"So, Kevin. Are you and Luna relatives or something?" Dexters asks on our way back to our seats.

I shake my head. "No, I don't think we are. We met when we were little like two times, but we didn't really know each other." I look at my hand and smile. She held my hand. She likes me and I like her too. Her warmth felt really nice.

"Oh…"

What really confused me were those visions? Memories? Of Rex Goodwin and Akiza Izinski… Just who are they and what do they mean to me? Suddenly, a strange pain surges in my right arm where my tattoo is. My vision blurs and I hear Dexter call out my name, but his voice fades away.

My scene turns all black, as my surroundings change. I'm swallowed in darkness and wake up somewhere totally different than the stadium.

"Where am I?" Around me is open space. I'm on a walkway that leads to what seems like a very huge castle. Behind me are trees and trees to what seems infinite. Out of sudden, dark clouds roll in from the forest behind me and engulf the lively blue sky. I hear an explosion at the castle and see a big purple fog explode from there. I begin to run towards the castle and in a few seconds, I reach a long narrow bridge, where a strange-looking guard stands. He's all silver with a silver sword in his right hand and a shield on his left.

When he notices me, he goes to the middle of the entrance to the narrow bridge and declares, "Welcome, human! You're about to trespass into restricted territory where you aren't allowed in."

"Why not," I ask confused.

"If you want to go past me, you are going to have to beat me in a duel," he states. His shield glows a bright white light and is replaced by a white duel disk. His sword also disappears.

"Wait, I don't have a duel disk…"

"You do," a voice echoes in my mind.

My arm feels heavy and I find a duel disk already strapped on.

"Who was that?" I ask out loud."

"I will lead you," the voice says. "That's all for now."

"Alright then, you got yourself a duel," I tell the guard.

"My name is Blade Knight and I won't be defeated that easily." The knight says drawing his five cards.

"We'll see," I say, also drawing.

"Let's duel!"
